Morgan Wallen: ‘Dangerous’ The Double Album – Review

Morgan Wallen’s highly-anticipated record Dangerous: The Double Album is officially available now, January 8th on all streaming platforms. We spoke with the superstar about the process of writing the project, releasing it in 2021, and giving fans exactly what they want; a ton of new music. Check out the full virtual interview in the video below, then read further on and check out our full album review as we dig a little deeper into the music.

Morgan Wallen is an artist that is on the brink of superstardom with international recognition during his few years in the limelight. His debut record If I Know Me continues to garner him more and more fans and accolades, but his brand new sophomore album Dangerous is sure to secure his staying power. The double album is one of a kind, gritty, elevated, and creative, all qualities that Wallen clearly possesses in his own right.

With thirty songs in total, plus two bonus songs exclusively for Target buyers, the singer-songwriter shatters any expectations that fans or industry executives might have had for his sophomore project. Each of the songs convey a different side of Wallen’s personality, but they all bare a part of his soul and heart. He sings and writes about universal truths in love and heartbreak, but also expresses his undeniable gratitude for his country roots and values.

Disc one opens up with “Sand In My Boots,” a track that combines all the elements. Wallen recounts falling in love with a girl, who he thought accepted his upbringing and hometown. It turns out that was not the case, but still, the singer finds a way to convey some hope in the expressive song. Lyrics like “I said girl you never seen stars like the ones back home / And she said maybe I should see them for myself” make you envision a love affair like this one.

Previously released songs and fan-favorites “More Than My Hometown” and “7 Summers” both have a similar feel to the opening track. All create imagery like no other, and it’s clear that Wallen knows a thing or two about heartbreak. On the contrary, brand new song, “Silverado For Sale” creates imagery in a different way. The artist tells the story of falling in love and needing to sell his truck to have the life he wants with his soulmate. Simple, yet beautiful, the more you listen to the love song, the more you will recognize how certain gestures can touch your heart.

Wallen also included his rendition of “Heartless” and of course, “This Bar” on the record. The latter is reflective and personal. The singer shares personal accounts of his 21st birthday, a break-up, and other experiences that have helped him grow into the person he is today. His willingness to share and be honest with his fans through his music is one of the many reasons we have fallen in love with his artistry.

“Making mistakes and making new friends / I was growing up and nothing made sense / Learning how to live with a broken heart / I found myself in this bar”

That reflective nature is also evident in songs like “Whiskey’d My Way” and “Livin’ The Dream,” which both happen to be two of our favorites off the record. On the former, Wallen considers all the options that he could have used to get over his ex, admitting that whiskey was what worked. Singing that he should be in the “moving on hall of fame” and later declaring “Tequila made me crazy / Cold Beer wouldn’t do / So I whiskey’d my way over you” just further shows Wallen’s ingenuity with lyrics.

“Livin’ The Dream” which was pre-released with songs “Somebody’s Problem” and “Still Goin’ Down” reflects on a little bit more than a break-up. One of Wallen’s most honest and raw songs to date, “Livin’ The Dream” co-written by Wallen and HARDY, as well as, Ben Burgess and Jacob Durrett, expresses the less glamourous side of success and fame. With this song, Wallen gives fans a vulnerable account of his thoughts and feelings in what seems like a journal entry, including both his struggles with alcohol and his priorities.

Continuing to lean into the vulnerability, Wallen included a song with “Little Rain” vibes on the record. “Me on Whiskey” is flirty and sensual in all the best ways. “Outlaw” a collaboration with Ben Burgess also conveys a similar, yet hopeful message on finding and holding on to love. Wallen also collaborates with superstar, Chris Stapleton. Their song “Only Thing That’s Got” is a brooding, break-up song with killer guitar riffs and even better vocals.

Of course, it would not be a Wallen record if the singer didn’t include songs that were primed for concert season and live performances, as well as, express his immense pride for East Tennessee Roots. “Somethin’ Country,” “Beer Don’t,” “Still Goin’ Down,” “Country A$$ Shit,” and “Whatcha Think Of Country Now” all remind the listeners that Wallen is a good ole boy and proud of it. Out of the group of songs all primed for the stage, “Whatcha Think Of Country Now” is a standout.

“Half way down your first country mile / You called your mama said it’s gunna be a while / didn’t think way out was your style / but now you know what it’s about / whatcha think of country now”

Wallen also explored sonically with the title-track “Dangerous,” 865,” and “Warning.” All super catchy, both “Dangerous” and “Warning” explore a more hip-hop edge, while “865,” arguably a top pick off the record focuses on unique and exciting phrasing. Vocally, “865” challenges Wallen in the best way, but sonically, the song soars with a killer instrumental and phrasing that we just cannot get enough of.

The hitmaker said it best in a recent press release, sharing, “I know 32 songs sounds like a lot to digest, but I truly did my best to make sure there’s not a song that I would press ‘next’ on. I also wanted the songs to speak to multiple phases of life and have multiple different sounds based on my influences and based on what I enjoy.” Both sonically and lyrically, Wallen nailed it with this incredible project that is sure going to take him to next level!

Country Songs That Embody 2020

The top country songs that embody 2020…

At last, 2020 is coming to an end. Despite how crazy this year has been, country music still prevailed, bringing us new songs, records, and even livestreams to enjoy. We thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of the songs that we think personified this year.
“F2020” – Avenue Beat
“Lowkey fuck 2020 / I don’t know about everybody else / But I think that I am kinda done / Can we just get to 2021”
Obviously, we have to start our list off with this certified jam! The ladies killed it with this viral song, personifying exactly how we all felt midway through quarantine. Of course, regardless, it’s such a bop.
“7 Summers”- Morgan Wallen
“Back then you used to love the river / And sippin’ on a mixer with me / Does it ever make you sad to know / That was seven summers ago”
This nostalgic Morgan Wallen tune is quite possibly one of his best to date. Despite the fact that it’s about a past relationship, the song brings back memories of better days and even more innocent times. It is also super catchy and Wallen’s vocals shine on the track.
“Black Like Me”- Mickey Guyton
“It’s a hard life on easy street / Just white painted picket fences far as you can see / If you think we live in the land of the free / You should try to be black like me”
One of the most poignant country songs arguable ever, Mickey Guyton spoke her truth with this powerful song. Making the country music industry and the world pay attention to the societal issues in regards to racism and disenfranchisement, we are so happy that this song was brought to life by the incredible artist.
“I Should Probably Go to Bed” – Dan + Shay
“In a crowd of strangers and lovers / Someone told me that you were coming so / I should probably go to bed”
The irony of this song just cannot be beat. Although it was not about the pandemic, we cannot help but think that we “should probably go to bed,” when we are fatigued from the whole year. Also, the song is just plain great, so it had to make our list.
“We Were Rich”- Runaway June
“I never thought that grass was greener / On the other side of our old chain link fence / Yeah, we were rich”
Runaway June’s latest single, “We Were Rich” was one of our favorites off their last project. The song reminds us to be thankful for what we have, even when times are tough. It is the perfect reminder for us during these last few months and into 2021.
“Six Feet Apart”- Luke Combs
“But there’ll be crowds and there’ll be shows / And light after dark / Someday when we aren’t six feet apart”
Luke Combs was honestly the king of quarantine, giving fans so much new music. This particular song is lyrically-genius. He reminds us all that the world will not be like this forever, a reminder that we definitely all need.
“Be A Light”- Thomas Rhett + Friends
“In a world full of hate, be a light / When you do somebody wrong, make it right”
Finally, we leave you with this impactful song by Thomas Rhett featuring Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin, and Keith Urban. This song is the encouragement we need in our world right now. Even in the darkest of times, there is always good in the world. If you cannot find any, be the light.

As we look forward to a better 2021, we want to thank each and every one of you who show us so much love throughout the year. We are looking forward to the new year and better days together!

Morgan Wallen’s “More Than My Hometown” Earns Him His 4th Number 1

Morgan Wallen’s “More Than My Hometown” off his upcoming double record, Dangerous, hits the top spot on the charts this week, earning him his fourth consecutive career number one hit, following songs like “Up Down,” “Whiskey Glasses,” and “Chasin’ You.”

If there is anything Morgan Wallen has proven over his young career, it is that anything he releases is going to be a bonafide hit! The newly crowned CMA New Artist of The Year just released three brand new songs ahead of his double album, Dangerous, including “Somebody’s Problem,” “Livin’ The Dream,” and “Still Goin Down.” On top of that, his current single from the project, “More Than My Hometown” just secured the top spot on the country charts.

Wallen now has four hit songs under his belt as a recording artist, as well as, multiple accolades from the music industry and from fans. “More Than My Hometown” is just another pure example of how talented the singer-songwriter truly is. Written by Wallen with HARDY, Ernest, Keith Smith, and Ryan Vojtesak, the song is romantic, inviting, and bittersweet. He combines elements of both nostalgia and heartbreak while maintaining an undeniable charm and sense of self.

I love you more than a California sunset / More than a beer when you aint 21 yet / More than a Sunday morning Lord / Turnin’ some poor lost souls ’round, Hallelujah bound / I love you more than the feeling when the bass hits the hook / When a guy gets the girl at the end of the book / But, baby, this might be the last time I get to lay you down / Cause I cant love you more than my hometown”

Wallen remains one of the most exciting artists in the country genre. We predict another number one album in his future, as well as, bigger and bigger headlining shows. Congrats to Wallen and his team for another number one hit with “More Than My Hometown!”

Morgan Wallen Releases Three Brand New Songs Ahead of Double Album

Morgan Wallen surprised fans by announcing his 30-track forthcoming sophomore release, “Dangerous, the double album” moments after winning the 2020 CMA New Artist of the Year award. Today, as pre-sales kick-off, Wallen has released three brand new tracks “Somebody’s Problem”, “Livin’ The Dream”, and “Still Goin Down”. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Morgan Wallen Releases Three Brand New Songs Ahead of 'Dangerous, the double album'

Morgan Wallen Releases Three Brand New Songs Ahead of ‘Dangerous, the double album’

Morgan Wallen has been hinting at new music for what seems like the whole year, but recently we learned that the entertainer’s sophomore project is set to be released on January 8th, 2021. Not only will we get a new record in the new year, but it is a double feature, full of 30 brand new songs for fans to listen to. Today, three songs were released as instant gratification tracks off Dangerous, including Wallen’s demo, “Somebody’s Problem,” Still Goin’ Down,” and “Livin’ The Dream.”

Each of the three songs are full of that country-boy charm that we have grown to love from the singer. The first, “Somebody’s Problem” was teased via Instagram, as a demo, back in September. The song is a narrative that is all about a budding new relationship. In true Wallen fashion, the singer will be sure to make fans swoon with his relatable, catchy, and romantic lyrics.

“I think I’m liking where it’s going / I’d like to try me some of somebody’s problem / Somebody’s goodbye / Somebody’s last call number that they can’t find / Somebody’s best day, somebody’s worst night / Somebody’s reason for leaving on the porch light”

We get another taste of the upcoming project with “Still Goin’ Down.” Co-written by Wallen with HARDY and songwriter, Ryan Vojtesak, the track kicks off disc 2 of the double project. Another slower tempo jam, the singer taps into his “Chasin’ You” vibes with this one. Although the song is all about growing up in the country, it truly is a love song to the town that raised him. Like on Wallen’s unapologetic debut single, “The Way I Talk,” he showcases his roots, no matter what anyone thinks.

“I’d be damned if I sound like something I ain’t / Cause for some folks, the backroad gets old, but for me, it just can’t / Cause I’m from a small town, southern drawl crowd”

The third new song, “Livin’ The Dream” is also co-written by Wallen and HARDY, as well as, Ben Burgess and Jacob Durrett. Recently, the entertainer shared a clip of this song on TikTok, telling fans how personal the song is to him. “Never thought I’d release it, but here we are,” he added admitting to personal struggles that he’s been through, due to the fame. Vulnerably sharing struggles with alcohol and his priorities, “Livin’ The Dream” expresses the less glamorous side of success and fame. With this song, Wallen gives fans an honest account of his thoughts and feelings in what seems like a journal entry.

“I don’t ever get nowhere / Signed my life away to be the life of the party / Yeah to everybody else / I look like a rockstar / In and out of cop cars / Living out of a suitcase”

All three of the released songs are exactly what we have come to expect from Wallen. We appreciate his knack for songwriting and vulnerability. Regardless of what he is singing, the entertainer finds a way to connect with fans and makes you want to listen over and over again.

The Hero Collection by NYCountry Swag is inspired by the men and women of the Fire, Police and Military Departments across the country. A portion of sales from each purchase is donated to different foundations that support our heroes. We are dedicated to honoring their service and remembering their sacrifice.
