NYCS First Impression: Noah Schnacky Self-titled Debut EP

Big Machine Label Group’s Noah Schnacky is proving he has what it takes to make it as a country music artist. Today, the singer-songwriter finally released his debut self-titled EP featuring seven radio-ready tunes.

Although technically a newcomer, Schnacky has built a loyal following on social media, long before his record deal. Those fans are sure to support his latest project, and we are confident that his fanbase will continue to grow with the release of this well-rounded EP. The new project features previously released jams like “Feels Like Love” and his debut single, “I’ll Be The One,” as well as, brand new tunes.

“Feels Like Love” is a hopeless romantic’s dream song. The picturesque lyrics are the perfect way to explain how it feels to be falling for someone and all the romanticized details only make you like the song even more. “I’ll Be The One”, the song that truly put Schnacky on the map, is another effortlessly perfect love song. With just the right amount of swagger, the singer promises that he will be essentially the ‘dream guy’ if the girl will just give him a chance. We believe him.

You been waiting on gentleman / To be your steady rock and rock your world / To build your little white house on a little lane”

Remastered versions of “Hello Beautiful” and “Maybe We Will” may also feel familiar to long-time fans. The former is a stripped-down ballad that puts Schnacky’s vocals on a pedestal. He easily flows from lyric to lyric against a simple instrumentation, as he sings the ultimate compliment to a new perspective love interest. “Maybe We Will” feels like it could be a sequel, as the song is about a blossoming, ‘almost relationship’. If “Hello Beautiful” is the initial meeting then, “Maybe We Will” is the courtship. We love how hopeful and sure of himself the singer presents as on both these tracks.

Hello beautiful / I’ve never seen you before / Do you live ‘round here / What’s your name beautiful / The way you looked at me / Girl it took my breath away / And I had to introduce myself / IU just had to say / Hello Beautiful, beautiful”

In a similar vein, “Where’d You Go” is a pensive, yet fun track about wanting to find your soulmate. We all wonder when we will have that moment, where we meet our better half, but Schnacky finds a way to sing about the subject in a relatable, yet personal way.

On the contrary, “Comeback” deals with the demise of a relationship. Schnacky utilizes clever lyrics to explain the mixed emotions people often feel after a break-up. Friends may want you to bounce back, but ultimately, you just want the girl to “come back.” The double meaning of the hook is a smart and enticing way to create buzz around this song. According to Schnacky, “this song came straight from [his] heart during a hard time in [his] life.” We appreciate the rising artist’s honesty and authenticity.

With this first release, it is clear that Schnacky is a romantic at heart. The heartthrob sensation is one to watch, and we are confident that country fans will resonate with his latest project.

HARDY Initiates Celestial Conversation in “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL”

HARDY Heaven

If you have been following along with us here at NYCountry Swag then y’all know how much we love rising artist and songwriter, HARDY. We truly believe that he is on his way to superstardom and we cannot get enough of his incredible songwriting and unique take on music. To top it all off, HARDY saved 2020 by announcing the release of his next project, A ROCK, scheduled to drop on September 4th. Today we get a sneak peek of what we can expect from the album with his newest song “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL,” following previously released jams “BOOTS” and “One Beer.”

HARDY is a master wordsmith and “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL” exemplifies his talent effortlessly. The story of losing a loved one unfolds through each verse of the song. HARDY sings about saying farewell to a dear friend in such a way that feels celebratory, yet somber, a combination that only he could deliver. The singer-songwriter has a knack for weaving words together with heavy guitars and drums in ways that are truly unexpected, but spectacular.

Crank it loud / Hold it down til I get there / When I do I hope you have some new stories to tell/  Till then give heaven some hell”

Although the track wasn’t written with a specific person in mind, HARDY, along with songwriters Ashley Gorley, Ben Johnson, and Hunter Phelps create a conversation between those still left on earth and those who have passed on. True confidence in the whereabouts of the dearly departed are on full display in the pre-chorus “Yea, I believe em when they say you’re in a better place, you had a wild side but you had amazing grace, I know you’re way off up in them clouds, but if you could still hear me right now…”

The brand new music video paints the picture that runs through your mind when you listen to the track. HARDY manages to envision a funeral for a loved one without making it feel dark. He chooses to showcase both the emotional moments of losing someone, while also highlighting the joy that you feel because you have known someone so special. Clearly a wild boy at heart, HARDY leans into his persona on this tune, while delivering authenticity and vulnerability that is at the heart of the visuals.

Like HARDY’s other songs, “GIVE HEAVEN SOME HELL” is what he does best. It delivers on all the it-factors that we have come to expect from one of our favorite artists. If the rest of the record is anything like the previously released tunes, we are in for quite possibly the best record of the year.

To keep up with HARDY follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Country superstar, Kane Brown has previously teased a forthcoming collaboration with wife, Katelyn, but this morning (July 23) the singer-songwriter shared more to the news while calling into SiriusXM’s The Storme Warren Show on The Highway. Confirming the duet, Brown claimed, “She’s my secret weapon that I am waiting to unleash.” of his wife.

“Usually, I always just write my songs. This was actually a pitch that I heard that immediately caught my ears and caught my attention, and it’s not ‘Worldwide Beautiful,’ but it’s basically a song pulling out everything else that’s happened in 2020. It’s called ‘Mad at This World,’ but it’s basically saying, ‘How could I be mad at this world, when this world gave me you?'” Brown says of the project.

No official word on when the song will be recorded and released.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy Brown’s latest track, “Be Like That” with Khalid and Swae Lee. The highly anticipated song was released on July 10th, but fans have been eagerly waiting for it since videos of him performing the pop-friendly collaboration at his shows back in February surfaced the internet. When we saw it live at the Atlantic City stop on his Worldwide Beautiful Tour, he said it would be his next single to pop radio and teased possible guest features. Watch it below:

Cam Releases New Song “Classic” & Drops Album Details

Cam Classic

Southern California native Cam is best known for her dreamy, thought-provoking songs that infuse country, pop, folk, and rock all into one sound. Untamed, her debut record came out five years ago, and on Friday, July 17th, Cam finally announced her follow-up, The Otherside, due October 30th. Ahead of its release, four songs are now available to fans, including the new summer jam “Classic”.

“Classic” was written by Cam and GRAMMY-winning writer and producer Jack Antonoff. Some of Antonoff’s most recent projects include The Chicks’ Gaslighter and Taylor Swift’s Lover, and you can hear his influence throughout the song. The track opens with a fun, 12-string guitar strumming pattern set to a driving percussion that sounds ‘70s and retro, and yet at the same time, modern in the way Antonoff’s producing credits feel.

The song is essentially about a love that is timeless and outlasts current trends and superficiality. Cam describes the love as “a big yellow taxi/Like your best friend’s mixtape/A big limo and a prom date”; all things that don’t belong to one specific decade. They’re simply classic. It’s clever, fun, and poppy, and a reminder that the simple things in life are some of the shiniest and best.

“Jack and I caught something in the air that day and ran with it,” Cam explained in a press release. “The track is so much fun. Jangling guitars, claps, it feels like when a group of familiar people get back together over the holidays, clanking around after dinner with too much wine, and amidst the chatter and laughter and closeness they are really telling each other, deep down, just how much they love each other.”

What Cam always does best is combine her pop instincts, these melodies that stick around in your head forever, with heartfelt and interesting country storytelling to go along with it. She’s distinct in her vocal delivery, and especially on a song like “Classic”, she shows fans how her music isn’t perfectly fit for the country radio mold, but at the same time could still easily be played on the air and be cranked up. Just like the song says, she’s classic.

Keith Urban Reminisces in New Track “Superman”

Keith Urban Superman

Country superstar, Keith Urban released a new track titled “Superman,” last Friday (July 17th) and a music video to go along with it. The song will feature on the Urban’s upcoming project, The Speed of Now Part One, coming out September 18th, along with other previously released tracks, such as “Polaroid,” “God Whispered Your Name,” “We Were.’

Although the idea around the song is sad, the upbeat tempo and colorful video make “Superman” a feel-good, summer jam. Urban reminisces on his time spent with a particular girl and how when they were together, he felt like a superhero. In the video, Urban sings the first verse as a cartoon sketch, and when the chorus comes around, he is brought to life in front of imaginative scenery. Watch it below:

Urban, who is up for ACM Male Artist of the Year, is scheduled to host the award show on September 16th, two days before his album release. Check out the full list of nominees here.

A Thousand Horses Cheers to Heartbreak in “A Song to Remember”

A Thousand Horses A Song To Remember

The country music band A Thousand Horses are back, collaborating with producer Dave Cobb again on new music. The group released their brand new song entitled “A Song to Remember” today, marking their first single from their upcoming album, Let the Band Play On, and with their new label home.

Lead singer Michael Hobby co-wrote the track with Brett Warren, Brad Warren, and Christopher Stevens. “A Song to Remember” is a catchy, southern-rock jam written during the phase after a breakup. The men lament about the suffering one feels during heartbreak and the array of emotions that follow suit. Their gritty vocals and enticing lyrics make help fans to have empathy for the protagonist.

I need a song to remember / And a drink to forget / I’m on my way to gettin’ over you / But I ain’t there yet / When the melody hits me, a little Coke in my whiskey / I’m as close to good as I can get / I need a song to remember / And a drink to forget”

This quasi-positive mentality is refreshing in a break-up song. The track overall is a perfect song that compliments the skill-set and talent of the members of A Thousand Horses. “’A Song To Remember’ is about being stuck in the purgatory of heartbreak and dealing with the rollercoaster of emotions that comes along with it,” said guitarist Bill Satcher. “We always love working with our old pal Dave Cobb, and to have Warner Music Nashville in our corner alongside Low Country Sound/Elektra means the world to us.”

NYCS First Impression: The Chicks ‘Gaslighter’

Gaslighter The Chicks

Country music fans have been waiting fourteen years for The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, to rise from the ashes, and boy are they about to set fire to everything we ever knew about them in the best possible way. The powerful trio of songstresses is ready to share their truth with the world and lean into their brazen, rebellious side. Gaslighter is a masterpiece that was released at the absolute perfect time.

The Chicks’ evolution has been a long time in the making, and the new record is both sure to burn some bridges and build some new ones. The record is full of humor, pain, and honesty beginning with the album’s title track, “Gaslighter.” It is the perfect introduction to everything that makes this record what it is. The song is a reminder to all the naysayers that they are strong and independent women. The word itself is a not so subtle message about what the ladies have endured as products of their environment back in the heyday; however, the song is something special.

“March March,” is an in-your-face political tune about the power and importance of protest. It is sure to spark some controversy, but clearly The Chicks aren’t holding anything back, which is an evident theme throughout the entire record. In the same vein, “For Her” is another outcry for women. The beautiful harmonies shine as the songstresses pose the ideals of standing up for one another, standing up for your younger self, and showing up for yourself and other women simultaneously.

Heartbreak, bad experiences, and marital discord with men is another theme that is weaved throughout many songs on the record. In the heartbreaking ballad, “Everybody Loves You,” The Chicks break-down the hardships of ending a relationship, where your ex is loved by everybody. The singers examine that relational dynamic and divorce again in the story-telling song “My Best Friend’s Weddings;” however in this song, the ladies learned that they actually prefer their own company. “I’ve never seen her look more happy / Guess from ashes we can really grow”.

The Chicks continue to channel their angst and new-found confidence in “Tights On My Boat,” where they call out a cheating ex in a comedic, yet dark lyrical prose. Despite the subject matter, the song has an anthemic feel about it. Of course, Sleep at Night” is another, not so subtle, message that reveals cheating rumors to be true. Ironically, the ladies cleverly place “Texas Man,” an outlier on the record, after the latter, which showcases some hope and romanticism for a post-split life.

In back to back songs, the ladies share their experiences of how divorce can impact kids. In “Julianna Calm Down,” the ladies give advice to women, who are in the throws of disintegrated relationships, naming all their children and nieces on the track. The ladies turn heartbreak into women empowerment in this necessary track, which was written by Julia Michaels, Jack Antonoff, and Natalie Maines. “You’re gonna make it through / So just put on, put on, put on your best shoes / And strut the fuck around like you’ve got nothing to lose”

“Young Man” addresses the sons that have been impacted. Specifically written for Maines’ son, the songstress encourage him and other boys to not take on the pain of the adults. The bluegrass tune is both inspiring and sad all at the same time.

Finally, the last two songs on the record have the ladies facing their pain and trials head-on. “Hope It’s Something Good” examines the heartbreaking reality that a twenty-plus year relationship is over. The vulnerability of the song is sure to resonate with fans across music genres. With that being said, the ladies end the record on a different note with “Set Me Free.” Although equally as emotive, the ballad feels like a release of pain and hurt, expressing a readiness to move on and find happiness again. It expresses closure both literally and figuratively.

The Chicks have found a way to take us through their journey for the last twenty years through their music. Gaslighter, though maybe not what fans expected or hoped for, is a fully cohesive album that is exactly what we needed. The Chicks have created a completely new space for themselves in the music scene and have really upped the ante for other artists to speak their truth in their music.

NYCS Picks:

  1. “Julianna Calm Down”
  2. “Texas Man”
  3. “Tights On My Boat”
  4. “For Her”

Gaslighter Tracklist:

  1. Gaslighter

  9. Julianna Calm Down
  10. Young Man
  11. Hope It’s Something Good

[Listen] LANCO Drops Brand New Track Titled “Save Me”

Lanco Save Me

LANCO continues to showcase their folk-country sound and honest lyrics with their new track titled, “Save Me.” This is the double-platinum, country group’s first release since October when they dropped “What I See” and “Old Camaro.”

“Save Me” is a song about a lost, troubled man who meets a girl that helps him not only find love but find himself. Backed by a string-heavy production, the feelings become physical as lead singer, Brandon Lancaster describes his attraction for this woman in the second verse with the suggestive lyrics, “My addiction to this friction is like the skin against your jeans.” The slow tempo of the song amplifies when the chorus comes around.

“I’ve been lost and I found you / You can be the someone to / hold me close and make me believe / You could save me”

Although they have not been releasing new music like other artists, LANCO has stayed busy during the pandemic performing virtually on multiple live streams and for personal parties, appearing on an episode of P.K. Subban’s NHL Trivia show, and partnering with the non-profit organization, Purposity to raise money for families in need and much more.

LANCO was supposed to open for Miranda Lambert on her Wildcard Tour, which has been pushed back to start in October, but given the current state of the country, those shows are likely to be postponed again or canceled completely.

“Save Me” may be the first of many new songs coming from LANCO. The band already has “What I See,” “Old Camaro” and “Rival” to feature as the first few songs on their upcoming sophomore album.

Don’t miss an announcement by following them on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook.
