After recently dropping the 6-Pack EP in May, the 2020 ACM and CMA nominated Duo of the Year, Florida Georgia Line wasted no time releasing new material with a song titled “Long Live.” Both Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley co-wrote the toast-raising track alongside their good friends, Corey Crowder, David Garcia, and Josh Miller. The duo also co-produced the track along with Corey Crowder.
Backed by a string-heavy production, this new track has “Here’s to the Good Times” vibes as Hubbard and Kelley pay homage to the southern way of life. In the chorus, the two list all the aspects of small-town life they never want to change.
“Long live all the small-towners, sun-up and sun-downers, and old school Haggard and Hank / Love live long-neck bottles, and wide-open throttles, and old dirt roads with no names / Long live them country girls, long live them cut-up jeans / Long live this way of life, long live nights like these”
The duo’s latest single, “I Love My Country,” hit number one the week of August 31st, marking their 17th chart-topping song. Fans can catch them perform it live at the 55th ACM Awards on Wednesday (9/16) at 8/7c on CBS.

Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Thomas Rhett gave back to his beloved music community by creating a beautiful and inspiring song with some of his friends. With the help of creators like Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin, and Keith Urban, Rhett released “Be A Light” to raise money for MusiCares Covid-19 relief efforts. This week, the song hit the number one spot on the charts, solidifying how amazing the record truly is.
If this feat wasn’t spectacular enough, what makes this truly more exciting is the fact that all the proceeds for this song go directly to helping people. It is clear that fans and radio alike got behind Rhett’s efforts of acts of service. The song has quite literally been a positive light in what has been some very unsettling times for the world and the entertainment community.
“In a place that needs change, make a difference / In a time full of noise, just listen / ‘Cause life is a but a breeze, better live it / In a place that needs change, make a difference / In a world full of hate, Abe a light / When you do something wrong, make it right / Oh, don’t hide in the dark, you were born to shine / In a world full of hate, be a light”
This marks the singer’s 16th number one hit of his career. “Be A Light” joins songs like “Die a Happy Man,” “Beer Can’t Fix,” and “It Goes Like This” as some of Rhett’s biggest and best hits. Adding to all of the excitement, Rhett also recently made an additional contribution of $100,000 along with his label head, Scott Borchetta to MusiCares.

A brand new duo has hit country music airwaves with Nashville artists Matt Chase and Chris Rogers. The group called ‘Southerland’ has been years in the making, whether the pair of singer-songwriters had plans to officially join forces or not. Instead, they had been pushing for their own solo careers while booking gigs and playing covers together to, in the meantime, pay the bills.
“We were just playing cover songs, and making enough money to get by so you can pay gas to get to the next show,” explains Chase, a native from a small suburban neighborhood in Charleston. While Rogers, who comes from a musical-oriented family from Washington, Georgia, talks about how the concept of becoming a duo was so farfetched for them. “I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had the conversation with people after we’ve played when they’d talk to us after the shows. They’d be like ‘you guys are great, how do we find you’. And, we’d have to explain to them that we’re not a duo. We’re not playing together, we’re just doing our own solo thing.”
Despite years of positive feedback and tons shows, it wasn’t until winter of 2019 that Southerland was truly set in stone after signing a record deal with River House Artists. Though, even this deal took years to finalize when Chase and Rogers were a part of the 2017 Key West Songwriters Festival and a representative from the label approached them with an offer. “…and fast forward to winter of 2019, we finally took her up on that offer. And, here we are. So, we’d been writing a lot over the past 18 months and gearing up now for the release of our first single,” said Rogers.
“Thing Is” acts as Southerland’s debut single which was heavily influenced by the ‘90s country feel, something both artists described as being what drove them to Nashville in the first place. Written by the duo along with frequent collaborator Greg Bates, the song is the perfect introduction to a group that tries to make everything fun and enjoyable. “…if you’re not making music and trying to have fun with it…if you’re not enjoying it, then I think you’re probably doing it for the wrong reasons. So, that’s the common theme that we try to find through everything,” Rogers continued.
After becoming involved with many associations such as WME and Reservoir, Southerland has continued to write and line up plans for the future, though their sole focus has been on the release of “Thing Is”. And despite not having an exact time, they look forward to the moment when they’re able to get back out on the road and introduce themselves to an audience as the duo who decided to partner up during one of the craziest years yet. Though Chase emphasizes how the terrible year has been, it’s also quite a blessing in disguise since it put everything on pause. “We’ve produced some great songs that I’m super proud of. Even though it’s a terrible situation, there’s a silver lining, because maybe if we had been on the road this year, we wouldn’t have gotten the songs that we have.”

Clockwise: Big Machine Label Group President/CEO Scott Borchetta, MusiCares Executive Director Laura Segura, Thomas Rhett, and Recording Academy Chair and Interim President/CEO Harvey Mason Jr.
Although in some ways, life is getting back to “normal,” the music and entertainment industry still needs all the help it can get. With that being said, we are so proud of how the music community has come together to help keep everyone afloat. Just the other day, it was announced that multi-platinum singer-songwriter Thomas Rhett and Big Machine Label Group CEO Scott Borchetta made a handsome donation of $100,000 to a special relief fund.
Earlier in the year, Thomas Rhett released his inspiring song “Be A Light” featuring friends, Reba McEntire, Hillary Scott, Chris Tomlin, and Keith Urban. Rhett and his collaborators agreed to donate all the proceeds from that song to the ongoing MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Efforts. Just this week Rhett and Borchetta surprised MusiCares with an additional $100,000 for the relief fund through the video below.
“Thank y’all for so much for everything y’all are doing,” Rhett shares, “The fact that y’all are helping people pay mortgages and hospital bills, I commend y’all so highly for that. Hopefully, we can get a lot more on board this train to continue to give and continue to help out our people.”
So far, MusiCares and their COVID-19 Relief Fund has helped thousands of people affected by the coronavirus to make ends meet, directly supporting those in the music community as the need remains dire.
This inspiring news comes on the heels of the single “Be the Light” breaking the top spot on the charts. We know there is more in store for Rhett, but we can only hope that more artists jump on board and help out their fellow community.

Carly Pearce has showcased multiple facets of her personality on both her critically acclaimed debut album, Every Little Thing, and her self-titled sophomore album, Carly Pearce. She has documented love, heartbreak and, every little thing in between.
Written alongside hit songwriters Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, “Next Girl” is an instrumentally cheery song while projecting Pearce’s tongue-in-cheek lyrical portrayal. The song serves as a warning from girl to girl that the guy that the new girl is seeing, may not be all she thinks she is.
“I bet you probably met him at a bar // Let him walk you to your car // I bet he said he never falls this hard // Yeah, I remember that part // He knows how to say all the right // Things, knows how to get you outta that dress // Knows how to make you think you’re the best thing // But I know what happens next, girl.”
The diction of the word “girl” at the end of each chorus is quick on the trigger; it’s clever. It’s full of vigilant guidance and alert for the next girl that may step into her ex’s path. There’s no confirmed answer, but it’s safe to say that it could be a dig at fellow country music artist, Michael Ray, whom she filed for divorce to this summer just months after their wedding.
Noted on the songstresses’ Instagram, “I’ve spent much of quarantine thinking about where I wanted my music to go. This was not easy for me, especially without having @busbee by my side this time around. The only thing I knew to do was to get lost in all of my old records. I needed to re-discover the music that captured my heart as a teenager: Dolly. Loretta. Patty. Faith. Trisha. The Chicks. Through all the listening, I was reminded how Country music always had these straight-talking women who were so strong and sassy. They were flirty, funny and feisty. And they weren’t afraid of banjos, fiddles, mandolins and dobro. I used that inspiration, both lyrically and musically, to create “Next Girl.” This is the music that flows through my blood, that comes out of my pores. It’s everything I love– and loved — all in one song, and when it’s rushing by, it just feels good… #nextgirl”

Sony/River House Nashville’s introduced their newest signee today, a duo by the name of Southerland The new powerhouse duo is comprised of Nashville-based artists Matt Chase and Chris Rogers. Today they released their debut single “Thing Is,” and fans are definitely going to gravitate towards it.
“We’ve never been more excited about releasing music that feels this authentic to who we are. From the very beginning, we’ve just tried to have fun doing what we love and we think that’s a quality that really shines through with “‘Thing Is,” they shared in a recent press release.
On their brand new release, Southerland perfectly blends traditional country elements with modern-day vibes. Co-written by Chase, Rogers and singer-songwriter, Greg Bates, “Thing Is” a cheeky, yet sweet love song. Featuring high-energy and feel-good lyrics, the new song is romantic and relatable, making it the perfect debut.
“The thing is / She is / Theres a certain little something about her sweet little kiss / And that smile / Those eyes / Yeah, she’s slowing me down, but still driving me wild / Can’t put my finger on whatever made me fall in love like this / The thing is / She’s got / Whatever that/ Thing is”
