Brothers Osborne: ‘Skeletons Deluxe’ – Album Review

Brothers Osborne’s new album Skeletons Deluxe is out now, January 21st on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new record below.

Originally released in October 2020, the Brothers Osborne third album, Skeletons, featured twelve tracks of the pure southern country-rock sound that fans have come to know of the duo. With TJ’s signature raspy growl paired with John’s incredible guitar skills, their unique sound shines on Skeletons.

Including the likes of “All Night” and “I’m Not for Everyone,” the Jay Joyce-produced Skeletons was a masterpiece in its original form. Today, however, the GRAMMY-nominated duo released a deluxe version of the album, featuring three new tracks, including the highly acclaimed “Younger Me.”

Nominated for the GRAMMY Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, “Younger Me” was inspired by TJ’s coming out in February 2021, making him the first major-label country artist to be openly gay. Written as a letter of reassurance to his younger self, the stirring ballad is one of country music’s most heartfelt tracks released in recent years.

“Younger me // Overthinking, losing sleep at night // Contemplating if it’s worth the fight,” TJ sings. “If he only knew he’d be alright // Yeah, younger me”

While “Younger Me” is arguably the most important track that the brilliant brothers have ever released, it should not completely overshadow the other two tracks released on this deluxe edition. There’s “Headstone,” a driving, guitar-driven uptempo track that reflects what the Brothers Osborne have become known for. Meanwhile, “Midnight Riders Prayer” received Willie Nelson’s personal blessing to include snippets from “On the Road Again.”

Featuring an incredible guitar solo at the halfway point, “Headstone” is sure to be a face-melter during live shows, as they extoll their own perfect imperfections, TJ proudly proclaiming “Write that on my headstone.” Meanwhile, “Midnight Riders Prayer” is an ode to the life of a touring musician. Sampling “On the Road Again” in a way that comes off completely organic, they meld Nelson’s classic rift into their own haunting chorus.

“When your night is ending // Ours is just beginning // On the road again,” They sing. “Like a band of gypsies, we roll down the highway… Brothers ‘til the end // Insisting that the world keep turning our way.”

While Skeletons was already an exemplary album, the three new tracks added to the deluxe album just make it all the more perfect.

Skeletons Deluxe Tracklist:

  1. Lighten Up (John Osborne, TJ Osborne, Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk)
  2. All Night (John Osborne, TJ Osborne and Andrew DeRoberts)
  3. AAll the Good Ones Are (TJ Osborne, Lee Miller and Craig Wiseman)

Walker Hayes: ‘Country Stuff The Album’ – Review

Walker Hayes’ brand new full-length project, Country Stuff The Album featuring “Fancy Like” and “AA” is out now, January 21st on all streaming platforms. Listen below.

When Walker Hayes released his Country Stuff EP in June, he wasn’t yet “the Fancy Like guy.” In fact, the buzz had just begun about the track that would become a viral sensation, inescapable everywhere from live television performances to Applebee’s commercials. Now, Hayes is taking a step forward as an artist, releasing his full-length Country Stuff The Album today, January 21.

“I’ve been waiting so long to put out a project like this,” says the Monument recording artist in a statement. “It has everything I love from the fun of ‘Fancy Like’ to the more personal lyrics in ‘AA.’ As an artist, it’s such a unique thing to be able to share all the different versions of you in a project, and that’s really what I tried to do here.”

The album opens with “Drinking Songs,” an interesting choice for a man who’s faced his own battles with alcohol addiction. Yet, Hayes jokes about it as only he can, quipping on social media, “Who better to write a drinking song than an alcoholic?” On the breakup track, Hayes is rock bottom after a breakup, getting through the tough times supported by a drink and an array of country greats.

Interestingly, Hayes follows up his “Drinking Songs,” with “AA,” revealing the honest truths about his life and his struggles. On the mid-tempo tune, he muses, “I’m just tryna keep my daughters off the pole // And my sons out of jail // Tryna get to church so I don’t go to hell // I’m just tryna keep my wife // From figuring out // That I married up // And she married way, way down… Hey, I’m just tryna stay out of AA.”

Like “AA,” “What You Don’t Wish For” deals with the struggles Hayes has faced on his road to success. “People think I’m crazy // And sometimes I believe them,” He begins. “I ain’t the best singer in the world // But I can’t stop singing.” He dedicates the song to all “the kids with guitars looking up at the stars” with dreams of making music a career. “They say careful what you wish // But I say more // Be careful what you don’t wish for.”

Hayes shows his romantic side on songs like “Life With You” and “Make You Cry.” If you follow him on social media, it’s abundantly clear how much he loves his wife, Lainey. This is even more evident on the album’s more heartfelt tracks. “Life With You” is about how much life changes once you find your person. “I never knew that I was lonely ‘til your love // Didn’t believe in all that one and only stuff //  Only thing that my heart could commit to // Was my commitment issues // Til you came into the picture like whoa // I said ‘y’all i’m finished flying solo’…” Hayes sings.“Baby all I wanna do is life with you.” Meanwhile, on “Make You Cry,” he celebrates the happy tears of life, which were probably caused by these songs. “I know I hit the right emotion,” He sings. “When your eyes fill up with ocean.”

The album also features a handful of collaborations, including “Country Stuff” with Jake Owen, “Briefcase” with Lori McKenna, and “What If We Did?” with Carly Pearce, each of which appeared on his previously-released EP. The new addition here is the re-release of “Craig,” featuring Christian group MercyMe. The song tells the story of a man whom Hayes met at church that changed his life by paying things forward and giving him a van. The inclusion of MercyMe on the choruses here adds a new layer to the song, making it even more powerful.

“Yeah I know, he sounds cool right? // Not your typical kid from Sunday school, right? // Nah he can’t walk on water // Or turn the Napa Valley red // But he just might be tight with a man that did // Now he’s not the light of the world // But I wish that mine was bright as his // Yeah he just might be tight with a man that is”

“Fancy Like” is still one of the album’s standouts, with its inescapable earworminess that we’re somehow not sick of yet. Meanwhile, Hayes continues to drop funky beats like “Fancy Like” on the likes of “U Gurl,” another rhythmic singalong track that’s sure to make the TikTokers happy.

The album ends on a high note with the stirring Carly Pearce duet “What If We Did.” The track finds the pair after a one-night-stand, musing that they may not make it long term, but what if they did? “That only happens never,” Hayes sings as they consider a possible future together, Pearce’s angelic voice adding a beautiful richness of layers to the already dreamy track.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last six months, you’ve heard and sang along to “Fancy Like.” Yet, there’s so much more to Walker Hayes, as evidenced by Country Stuff The Album. While he can produce a viral hit with a silly dance, Hayes is much deeper than just that, and while it would be easy to simply write him off as “that Fancy Like guy,” we recommend you give him the chance he deserves.

Country Stuff The Album Tracklist:

  1. “Drinking Songs”
  2. “AA”
  3. “Life With You”
  4.  “U Gurl”
  5. “DeLorean”
  6. “Fancy Like”
  7. “Craig” (Feat MercyMe)
  8. “What You Don’t Wish For”
  9. “Country Stuff” (Feat. Jake Owen)
  10. “I Hope You Miss Me”
  11. “Briefcase” (Feat. Lori McKenna)
  12. “Cry”
  13. “What If We Did” (Feat. Carly Pearce)

Restless Road Drops New Song “Growing Old With You”

Restless Road’s new song “Growing Old With You” is out now, January 21st on all streaming platforms. Learn more about the new track below.

Country newcomers, Restless Road released a brand new track today (January 21) titled “Growing Old With You.” The trio has been teasing the song on social media for over a month, and now it is finally available on all streaming platforms.

Restless Road broke onto the scene last March after fellow country artist and good friend, Kane Brown signed them to his record label and collaborated on the track “Take Me Home.” The rendition of the classic John Denver song was the lead single off their debut EP. Since then, they have released four additional songs, including the fun, drinking anthem, “Bar Friends.” They can now put “Growing Old With You” towards a future full-length project.

As far as love songs go, this one bumps it up a notch. It has all the elements of a wedding first dance. Penned by Jordan Minton, Jordan Reynolds, and Lady A’s Charles Kelley, the boys pour their hearts out in harmony and lay out all their plans with their women.

“What ya say we put us down some roots // Find a house up on a hill // Travel ’round the world // Put some pictures on the shelf // Hold you close and keep the faith // Raise some kids with our last name // Well, come on, baby, what you say we do // I feel like growing old with you”

The guys all shared what this song meant to them and their relationships individually on social media. Even though they are all at different points of their romantic lives—Zach is single, Garrett has a girlfriend of three years, and Colton is married—they all feel the weight of this song and express how it symbolizes what true love feels like.

Restless Road is currently on the road with Kane Brown on his Blessed and Free Tour. The group will headline their own tour beginning in April. For tickets, head to their website.

Chris Lane Has Big, Big Plans For 2022 [Exclusive Interview]

In our exclusive interview, we chatted with Chris Lane all about his upcoming “Fill Them Boots” tour. Read more below!

Chris Lane has had quite the year already, and it’s just getting started. We had the opportunity to chat with him leading up to his “Fill Them Boots” tour.

A lot has changed in Chris Lane’s life since he released his sophomore album in 2018: he got married to his wife Lauren Bushnell, had two life-changing hit songs on country radio, his son Dutton was born, and now, he is embarking on his headlining “Fill Them Boots” tour.

“It’s been so good to be at home, especially these first [seven months] that Dutton’s been born…  I’ve really enjoyed it… I’m very very excited to get back on the road. There’s gonna be quite a few weekends that we bring Lauren and Dutton out, and we’ll still get to be together a lot, so I am very excited.”

Lane has released a plethora of new material in the past year: songs like the current single “Fill Them Boots” to the HIXTAPE collab “Small Town On It” to the latest release “Stop Coming Over”. If fans are excited to finally hear these new songs live, Lane is just as over the moon. “I think as an artist there is nothing like being in front of people. The energy is much different, and hearing them scream the words back to you is honestly the best part about creating music and being an artist. A lot of these songs, I haven’t even been able to play live yet, which is not normal. Usually, you record a song and you’re out on tour and you get to start playing it immediately.”

As his personal life has changed, his songwriting and even touring lifestyle have changed a bit since his last “Big, Big Plans” headlining tour. “When Lauren and I first started dating, it gave me a whole new inspiration to write about and a whole new set of feelings. And when we got married, the same kind of thing. It transitions your mindset a little bit,” he explained to us. “Even more so when you have a child – it all definitely plays into the kind of songs I write. It’s softened my heart a little bit more.”

When it comes to putting together a setlist for this tour, because of streaming analytics, he is able to know where in the world certain fans like certain songs. Using this data, he will be able to customize the setlists on the tour. Additionally, he’s most excited about connecting with the audience again. “I’m a big moments guy – I love having a lot of moments in my set. Whether that’s bringing somebody up on stage, usually a little girl, to sing ‘For Her’… I’ll probably keep that moment in my set.” If you haven’t gotten tickets for Chris Lane’s “Fill Them Boots” tour, it’s a show you’re not going to want to miss.

Fans can join our Weekly Round-Up e-newsletter here, for the latest in country music and more news and announcements about future Chris Lane releases.

Who Is Rachel Bradshaw? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Rachel Bradshaw? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

The Beginning:

Today our spotlight shines on an artist you may know, Rachel Bradshaw. Bradshaw is an award-winning singer-songwriter, entertainment personality, daughter of NFL Legend Terry Bradshaw, and star of E! Network’s The Bradshaw Bunch. With a long history in the country music world, Bradshaw has recently reinvented herself and taken her power back through her music. We enjoyed our conversation with her, and we think you will too.

The songstress grew up just outside of Dallas, Texas, where she was captivated by music at a young age. “I was introduced to music early on. My dad would play guitar and he would always sing Patsy Cline’s “Crazy,” and that was the song we would sing together,” she recalls.

Although she played sports too, eventually Bradshaw’s parents asked her and her siblings to pick one thing to focus on. She picked music. “I wanted to be the biggest superstar and I had these big dreams, but I didn’t really know how to go about it,” she shared, adding later, “I grew up singing at all the Texas Opry’s.”

Drawing inspiration from incredible talents like LeAnn Rimes, George Strait, and The Chicks, Bradshaw chased her dreams to Nashville. “Nashville was the place to go. You have to be in Nashville,” she declared.

The Turning Point:

At eighteen years old, Bradshaw made the move to Music City to attend Belmont University. It was upon moving, where the singer discovered a different side to music and the music industry. “When I got to Nashville, I was like I have to learn to write songs,” she begins. “I started to become friends with people like Dallas Davidson and Jamey Johnson, and all these huge songwriters, and they were great friends because they taught me how to write. That’s kind of where I started.”

With a newfound passion for the artist side of country music, Bradshaw was hellbent on making it her career. She drew inspiration from artists like Johnny Cash and Patty Griffin, as she crafted her own talent as both a singer and a songwriter. “I started to be a fan more of the art part, more than being a big star on stage.”

Throughout her journey, Bradshaw experienced both publishing deals and a record deal, as well as, songwriting success on the country charts, but when her label went under, her desire and path in country music shifted.

“After the label went under, I had been in Nashville for like fifteen years and I was pretty exhausted, and I was just kind of like tired of the industry, so I moved back home, and our family got our TV show and I was working with my family filming.” It was during this time that music also came back into her life.

Today:

When the pandemic first began, Bradshaw found herself turning back towards music. “The coronavirus hit and I was by myself, at home, and single. […] I literally just got on the piano one day, and I just started writing.”

What started as an emotional escape for Bradshaw became her debut self-titled EP release. “When I wrote this EP, it was fun, and this was the only album I ever released, and I’ve made a few records. I’m kind of proud of that,” shared the songstress. “I think it was good that I was in a little room in Texas by myself […] I think that really helped to just be creative.”

The record features six songs, with five of them penned by the singer. All inspired by romantic relationships, Bradshaw’s vocals and songwriting are equally as impressive. One of our favorite songs off the EP, “Wild Horse” was inspired by the hope for love in the future. “And then you have “Wild Horse,” where I was like can I write a song about the ultimate love that I want to feel- that’s going to be “Wild Horse,” explained the singer.

The EP also features an incredible collaboration with Jamey Johnson, “If I Needed You,” the only cover on the project. “I wanted it to be pretty acapella […] And I just wanted it to sound haunted, like so beautiful, where it’s like super dark.” Bradshaw also shared that a music video for the song is slated to be released soon.

Fans can look forward to more new, and authentic music created by Bradshaw this year. Soon she will be releasing her long-awaited fan-favorite song “Everything A Daddy Won’t Say.” It is safe to say that this is a time in Bradshaw’s career, where she has truly found her sound.

“It’s so much fun to have complete control of my artistry”

Brett Sheroky Releases Brand New Song “Everybody Wants”

Brett Sheroky’s new song “Everybody Wants” is out now, January 14th on all streaming platforms. Learn more about the new track below.

There are singer’s and then there are artists, and Brett Sheroky is the latter. The songwriter turned artist continues to release music that both speaks to his experiences and his fanbase. His songs “Better On Paper” and “Ain’t My Place” are emotive, while “4 Goodyears” is storytelling at a top-tier level. Today, the singer-songwriter releases a brand new song, “Everybody Wants,” to add to his impressive collection of music.

The new song is upbeat and fun. Still, the song teaches us all a lesson in just a three-minute track. “Everybody Wants” depicts human nature and our desire to want something, but not be willing to fight for it. It is the wake-up call we all need when we are feeling sorry for ourselves.

“Everybody wants to be the king of the hill but nobody wants to have to climb it // Everybody wants 15 minutes of fame but nobody wants to put the time in // Working for tomorrow’s a hard pill to swallow and nobody wants to take it // Everybody wants to have it made but nobody wants to have to make it”

Clearly a man with a lot of fight, Sheroky shares his strength and integrity with us through his music. It is especially evident in this new song. We continue to love every song that the singer gives to his fans, and this song is no different!

To read more about Brett Sheroky, his triumphant battle with cancer, and his incredible songwriting skills, check out our spotlight interview.
