Old Dominion’s new album, ‘Time, Tequila, and Therapy’ is out now, October 8th, on all streaming platforms. Featuring thirteen new tracks co-written and co-produced by the band, listen to the full project below and check out our review.
Since forming in 2007, Old Dominion has become one of country music’s biggest success stories. Today, the quintet released their fourth studio album, Time, Tequila, and Therapy, coming nearly two years since the release of their self-titled album, which featured hits such as “Make It Sweet” and “One Man Band.”
Produced by Shane McAnally and Old Dominion, Time, Tequila, and Therapy features thirteen new tracks, all co-written by the band with help from longtime collaborators, McAnally and Josh Osborne. The LP continues to show Old Dominion doing what they do best: writing and releasing catchy and harmonic country music.
Unlike many of their country contemporaries, Old Dominion has managed to find a sound that’s distinctively their own. From the opening notes to the toe-tapping choruses to the breezy instrumentation, there’s no doubting an Old Dominion song when you hear one, and this is apparent throughout this album. From “I Was On a Boat That Day” to “Blue Jeans” to “All I Know About Girls,” Time, Tequila, and Therapy is Old Dominion through and through.
Opening with “Why Are You Still Here?,” lead singer Matthew Ramsey finds himself pondering about a lost love on the breezy intro track. In the opener, the girl is gone but still haunting every aspect of someone’s life, as they muse, “If I lost you, then why are you still here?”
As songwriters before they were artists, all five members of Old Dominion contributed to each track on this album. This is apparent on the clever wordplay that weaves itself through every song on the LP. Two of the finest examples here are “All I Know About Girls,” “No Hard Feelings,” and “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with Love,” where interesting lyrical twists make them stand out. On “All I Know About Girls,” the band muses about how little they know about the opposite sex. “I’m a jack of all trades, and a master of none,” Rosen sings, before making his way to the lyrical plot twist. “All I know about girls is // I don’t know nothing at all.”
Meanwhile, “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with Love,” the album’s final track, finds the band musing about all of the reasons love hasn’t worked out for them. “Daddy had Mama // Johnny has June // Even that dish ran away with the spoon,” they sing. “So if there ain’t nothing wrong with love // Then it must be me.” Additionally, on “No Hard Feelings,” we discover the LP’s title, as the song opens with “I took a little time, tequila and therapy // And threw it in a blender with ice.”
Other highlights of the album are “Hawaii,” “Blue Jeans” and “Lonely Side of Town,” which couldn’t be more different from each other, yet all work oh-so-well. “Lonely Side of Town” shows the band trading vocals with the legendary Gladys Knight. On the soulful and bluesy ballad, Knight provides an absolutely unexpected, but delightful, treat, harmonizing perfectly with the band in a way that’s absolutely magical.
“Blue Jeans” is a catchy, snappy up-tempo that sounds musically similar to the George Michael classic “Faith,” and celebrates the moment you meet your perfect match. “I feel you like music // Pray for you like rain // Wait for you like Christmas // Count on you like change // I lost you like car keys // Then found you like faith,”They sing here. “You trip me like shoe strings // You fit me like blue jeans.” Meanwhile, “Hawaii” provides an aural vacation, which finds the band longing for the simpler days of a trip to the islands. “I wonder // why we // ever left Hawaii.”
The thing that makes Old Dominion great is that they are unapologetically themselves in all of their music. With a distinct sound that includes clever lyrics, snappy musicianship, and 5-part harmonies, everything Old Dominion does best is evident on Time, Tequila, and Therapy.

Back in May, Platinum-selling Canadian group, James Barker Band landed their deal with Sony Music Nashville/Villa 40. The foursome have become ones to look out for here in the American country music landscape. Clearly artists and fans alike have taken notice. Today, the group released a new song with Dierks Bentley called “New Old Trucks.”
The collaboration between the band and Bentley flows effortlessly. Their seamless transition from one voice to another is both enticing and alluring. “New Old Trucks” is a song that screams nostalgia. There is nothing like singing about a truck that has been with you through it all.
“Never gonna find a new one like this // ‘Cause’ they ain’t making new old trucks // Can’t fake the fade or the rocker panel rust // Dent from a fence post I didn’t see coming // Scratch on the hood from her Levi buttons // Daddy hadda pull the first 100K // I drove the rest, wouldn’t sell or trade // That amount of miles or memories for a 1000 bucks because they ain’t making new old trucks”
The jam is one of those songs we are all going to relate to because of our own experience with irreplaceable and sentimental items in our lives. The clever wordplay that JBB and Bentley weave throughout the song is another layer that makes it special. Congrats to them on a great collab!

Hannah Ellis released her new song, “Us”, which will be impacting country radio on October 25th. We chatted with the singer-songwriter herself about all things “Us”, Opry, wine, marriage, and more.
It’s been a whirlwind of a year for Hannah Ellis: she signed a record deal, got married to fellow singer-songwriter Nick Wayne, made her Opry debut, and released new music, among other things. Her music is autobiographical, and she acknowledges this in her new single “Us”. The uptempo, driving country jam is specific to her relationship with Wayne, but also completely relatable to the audience.
“You and me will always be us // Like comin’ home headlights always mean your truck // Like leanin’ in’s always gonna be // my red wine lips mixed with your whiskey kiss Friday nights // Like your right hand’s always gonna be in mine // Some things just fit perfectly // Like an old t-shirt and Levi jeans // You and me will always be us”
“We were talking about how long Nick and I had been together, and how it doesn’t matter if I’m making my Opry debut, or if we are just riding in his truck afterwards going to Taco Bell – we are always us,” Ellis explains. “We are always the same and I know that we are going to be that way forever. As we were writing the song, we realized, everyone has that person. It can be a lover, a friend, or family… that person that makes everything make sense.”
Ellis had the opportunity to debut the song during her own Grand Ole Opry debut, and her moment in the circle is one that she will remember forever. “I think I knew I would be very emotional when I stood in the circle for the first time. I was honestly overwhelmed with emotion and it was a magical experience. Getting to announce “Us” as my radio single at the Opry and sing that for the first time was amazing.”
The music video for “Us” premiered on October 2nd, and features young music video assistants turned couple at the beginning of their relationship and parallels Ellis and Wayne’s own courtship. It mirrors the song perfectly.
Ellis has been making incredible music in Nashville for many years, and it’s exciting that the rest of the world is about to catch up and realize what a special talent she truly is. For those who don’t know her yet, Ellis is bound to take over country music with her soulful voice and unique writing style.

Jimmie Allen danced his way through week three with a performance to “Outrageous” during Britney Spears Week on Dancing With The Stars.
It was Britney Night on this week’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, and it turns out country star Jimmie Allen is a Britney Spears superfan. After dancing a salsa with partner Emma Slater to “Outrageous”, Allen proudly announced that he has seen Britney live 8 times and considers himself a huge fan. Unfortunately, the judges didn’t love the dance as much as Allen loves Britney, but the scores (6s from Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba and a surprise 8 from Bruno Tonioli – Derek Hough did not attend out of an abundance of caution due to potential covid exposure) and fan votes during the live show were enough to send Jimmie through to the next round.
While Allen is enjoying his time on the show, it’s hard being away from his 15-month-old daughter Naomi and his wife Alexis, who is about to give birth to their second child. “The baby is due anytime!” Allen said, joking with host Tyra Banks that he told his wife if she sees a foot popping out on Mondays or Tuesdays (when the show tapes in Los Angeles) that she needs to hold that baby in.

The Beginning:
This week’s Swag Spotlight artist is someone you may already know and if you don’t, you will. Lily Rose is an absolute force in the country music industry right now. She first burst on to the scene just a year ago, and has already won the hearts of millions of country fans everywhere. Learn more about her artistry, her new EP Stronger Than I Am, and her journey below.
A Georgia-native, Rose grew up with a supportive and music loving family. “I grew up in a household where music was always playing,” she shared. “My parents did not play instruments, but there was always music playing.” Although she did not grow up around musicians, her parents noticed a knack for music and rhythm in Rose at just nine years old. Her parents bought her a drum set and subsequently a guitar, which she taught herself.
She credits her parents for her early musical influences, as well as their unconditional support in her and her interests. “My parents would take me to concerts when I was just eleven years old. And they let me stay and watch the guys in Mexican restaurants sing ‘one more song’,” she laughs. “They always fed into whatever my passions were and I think it’s really important for parents to do that outside of sports and academics.”
More specifically, Rose’s father introduced her to the likes of artists like Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys. According to the singer, “My biggest songwriting and country influence is really Bruce Springsteen. […] I think he’s the best songwriter of all time.” The songstress also found inspiration in Taylor Swift, when she was a freshman in high school, due to her relatable storytelling.
“She really was the encouragement and the push over the edge to start writing songs. How do I write something that my friends feel relatable with,” shared Rose of Swift. “ I kind of just explored that without any seriousness all through high school.”
At fifteen years old, Rose started songwriting and cultivating her own musical interests. “I’m really thankful that I didn’t try to hone in to one genre. I’m super influenced by different artists like NEEDTOBREATHE, Ben Rector, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift, while also loving country music. I just continue to make music even through my move to Nashville that just felt like me,” exclaimed the singer-songwriter.
The Turning Point:
Although some would say that moving to Nashville and joining TikTok was the biggest turning point in her career, Rose reflects on a specific turning point much earlier on. The songstress discovered country music for herself when she turned sixteen and had her own radio. “It was “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” and “Dirt Road Anthem”. I never turned back. Country is what I was listening to the most,” shared the singer of truly falling for the genre. With that being said, Rose’s music is still heavily influenced by the likes of John Mayer, Maroon Five, the pop-rock scene, and of course, rappers like Kendrick Lamar and J Cole.
After beginning to play open mic nights in college, Rose realized that music was exactly what she wanted to do for a living. She found herself moving to Nashville soon after. When she arrived and started to co-write with other artists on the scene, Rose recalls thinking, “This is the music I’ve been trying to make over the last eight years.”
Soon after in October 2020, Rose downloaded TikTok, and the era of “Villain,”, her viral hit was born. “To put it into perspective, 365 days ago I did not have TikTok,” she declares. “It’s insane what’s happened in the last 9.5 months, let alone, the last year.”
Today:
Today, the singer gets to officially celebrate all the success culminating with the release of her new EP Stronger Than Me. The seven-song project was crafted thoughtfully over the last several months by Rose and her team. “The project as a whole has one theme that I look at on all seven of these songs, it’s what made “Villain,” which is relatability.” Adding later, “All of them have a really cool way of saying ‘I’m heartbroken’ or ‘I need to get over you’ or ‘I haven’t gotten over you,’ just so many ways in country music that this is topic is done over and over again. We found titles and hooks or we wrote titles and hooks in ways that have never been done before in country music.”
The EP is a unique collection of songs that Rose has penned, as well as songs that she selected in order to fill out her setlist. Interestingly, the singer has gotten to sing all these songs at her live shows over the past few months. “It’s really special that all of these songs I’ve been playing live and if you’ve been to a show, people have heard these already. So what I’m excited about is to see the growth of the song and see people sing them back.”
Every song is special in its own right, but the title track is the song that speaks to Rose the most. “I feel like the “Villain” chapter of the last ten months is turning into the “Stronger Than I Am” chapter,” she begins, “There’s a reason that, that song is the title track, that song stands above the others. I think it’s really one of the best written country songs that I’ve heard in a long time.”

Fresh off releasing his long-awaited debut album, Bet You’re From A Small Town, Jameson Rodgers officially has another number one song under his belt as an artist.
Back in October 2020, Rodgers earned his first number one single with “Some Girls.” Today, the singer-songwriter can celebrate his second hit with “Cold Beer Calling My Name” featuring longtime friend and fellow hitmaker, Luke Combs.
As soon as “Cold Beer Calling My Name” was released, critics and fans alike knew that the song was going to be a success. Rodgers has truly found his sound as an artist. The stellar songwriter knows what it takes to make a hit song. This is evident, as he is two for two with his radio singles so far. Combs has yet to miss with any singles, so having him on the song was just an added bonus!

Walker Hayes just released a new version of his hit song “Fancy Like” – a Spanish Remix with Latin Singer Carin León.
The remix is just as fun and catchy as the original, but with some Spanish flair! León brings his incredible vocals and puts his own twist on the tune. Hayes and León’s remix will kick off Amazon Music’s new “Whiskey & Tequila” playlist, which combines regional Mexican and country music, two of Amazon Music’s most popular genres. The song was released today as an Amazon Original, along with a behind-the-scenes video that shows Hayes welcoming León to Nashville and introducing to the lifestyle.
Hayes went viral on TikTok over the summer after he and his daughter released a dance video for “Fancy Like”. Within 24 hours, they knew the song had taken off. To date, it has been viewed more than 30 million times and has inspired more than a half-million original versions of the dance. In this time, Hayes’ TikTok followers have grown from 85,000 to 1.9 million.
“Fancy Like”, known to many as ‘The Applebees Song’, even led to a partnership between Hayes and the legendary chain restaurant. Hayes and his family have made cameos in their commercials, photos of them are on the menu, and the song allowed for the infamous Oreo Cookie milkshake to return to the menu by popular demand.
The traction of the song has now led to remixes with other prominent artists, only furthering the reach of the song. In addition to this remix with León, Hayes also released a remix with Kesha last month.

There’s something special about Lily Rose. Her voice shines with hints of 90’s country, while her music is a perfect combination of that, mixed with hints of pop, soul and R&B.
With an eclectic pop-country sound, Rose embraces being one of country music’s few openly gay artists, singing about the woman who broke her heart and the one she hopes to find love with. There’s no hiding herself here, and that makes the project all the more personal. Throughout the seven songs, Rose deals with a breakup, explores the possibility of new love, and celebrates the virtues of her hometown.
Following the viral success of her song “Villain” on TikTok, Rose signed a joint deal with Big Loud Records, Back Blocks Music, and Republic Records to release her debut project, Stronger Than I Am, out today, October 1. The singer-songwriter co-wrote four of the seven tracks, which also include songs written by fellow genre-bending artists like Sam Hunt, Ernest, and Breland.
The viral hit, “Villain,” opens the album, having Rose sound like a country-leaning Adele on the breakup song. Over the groovy mid-tempo track, Rose sings of the two sides of a story that tend to accompany the end of every relationship. She’s okay with negative light for the sake of her ex, singing “You can be the hero // I can take the fall / If that’s how your story goes // Say it’s all my fault // Whatever helps you sleep at night // Yeah you can make me the bad guy // Make ‘em all believe it // If that’s how you’re feelin’ // I can be the villain.” Meanwhile, things take a turn near the end of the song, Rose admitting,“What they don’t know is I tried to make us work it out // but I couldn’t save us // I couldn’t save us.”
The album’s first few tracks all center around the theme of the various stages of grief that go with heartbreak. The clever title track is a highlight from the project and finds Rose dealing with her broken heart by occasionally finding strength and solace in a bottle of “something that’s stronger than I am.” While she admits that “sometimes I can handle my own,” it’s not all roses for Rose. “Tonight, I don’t feel like I can // That’s why I’m sitting here on something // That’s stronger than I am.”
Meanwhile, the previously-released “I Don’t Smoke,” has a vulnerable Rose admitting that it’s impossible for her to ignore her ex. “That’s like saying I don’t smoke when I drink,” she admits on the stunning track, a clear standout on the album.
On “Remind Me Of You”, Rose is trying to move on and it’s proving difficult. “Girl, you were all that I wanted // And that’s why falling in love with her // Is so hard to do,” she admits. “She don’t remind me of you // She’s checking every box on the list // But there’s one that she missed // I think I know what it is // She don’t remind me of you.”
Meanwhile, “Know My Way Around” shows a more hopeful singer, revealing the things she knows all too well and the one she wants to know more of. “Cause ever since you walked in // Only thing that I’ve been thinking ‘bout is my next move,”she sings to the girl who caught her eye. “I just wanna know my way around you.”
The seven track project ends with “Whole Lotta Hometowns,” arguably the most country song here as she celebrates the town she grew up in. “There’s a whole lotta hometowns,” she proclaims on the anthemic tune. “But only one of them’s mine.” With driving guitars that surround Rose’s lush vocals, “Whole Lotta Hometowns” is the perfect closer to the album, showing a different side to the profoundly talented singer-songwriter.
On Stronger Than I Am, Lily Rose has released an honest body of work that explores the various facets of a breakup in a way that’s remarkably real, raw, and relatable.

“There’s still a little bit of America left in America”, Logan Mize sings on the opening line of the first track, “George Strait Songs” off his brand new album, Welcome To Prairieville. No verse explains the project more: for the past decade, Mize has been chronicling the simple, middle-town America life through his songwriting, and it has all come to fruition on the 11-song project. The sonics are classic, almost 90s sounding, while still remaining modern enough. It would sound perfect on radio airwaves, as it was made to be listened to driving down backroads.
“There’s still these hardworking, great, open-minded people that want to be independent; these little towns that don’t need a Walmart, and that’s what ‘George Strait Songs’ is about”, Mize shared with us in a recent interview.
Next up, the title track “Welcome to Prairieville” was written in 2011, over ten years ago, and it ties the entire project together. “That sign ain’t right on the edge of town // And the population keeps on going down”, he sings on the first verse. “It’s a pretty drive if you’ve got the time to kill // Welcome to Prairieville”.
“I Need Mike” is the only song that Mize did not write on the project. It’s a really evocative story-song, and although it’s specific, everyone has a “Mike” they can relate this song to. Blake Chaffin penned the track and serves as Mize’s main co-writer on the album. Each of the two songwriters chose a solo-write to include on the project and “I Need Mike” was Chaffin’s. “When I put it up against the rest of the songs, I really felt like ‘I Need Mike’ was [one of] the best songs on the project”, Mize tells us. “It makes you feel something. I don’t think I could have left it off. It felt like me… it’s just as much my record as it is his.”
The album ends with closing track It’s About Time”. A tune that is probably the most stunning song sonically, and it’s a hopeful way to drive out of Prairieville. It’s visual and dreamy, and it leaves you feeling like things are going to work out both in Prairieville and outside of the town.
“But I made it home // Found a reason // And the words to rhyme // Oh, I finally feel just like myself // And it’s about time”
If you don’t know Mize’s music yet, even though he’s put out a number of albums before, in some ways this acts as a re-introduction to who he is and his songwriting style. It is full of passion and small-town soundbites that will leave anyone reminiscing for their hometown. There’s nothing that sounds like this record right now, but at the same time, it is simple and timeless. It has all the influences of Mize’s life in central Kansas, and the refined polish of the Nashville sound. Overall, it is purely a wonderful, cohesive 11-track collection.
