Luke Combs’ ‘What You See Ain’t Always What You Get’
Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get will go down as one of the most successful country albums in the modern era. Released on November 8th, 2019 (deluxe version on October 23rd, 2020), the record set numerous streaming records, won the ACM and CMA awards for Album of the Year in 2020, and produced six hit singles including “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” “Even Though I’m Leaving,” “Does To Me,” “Lovin’ on You,” “Better Together,” and “Forever After All,” that all went number one. There are many lyrics from the 23-track project one could use for their Instagram captions, but here are our top ten.

Jimmie Allen danced his way through week two with a fan-favorite performance of his hit song “Make Me Want To” on Dancing With The Stars.
Country stars are no strangers to the Dancing With The Stars ballroom and Season 30 is no exception. Past competitors on the popular show include Lauren Alaina, Kellie Pickler, Wynonna Judd, Chuck Wicks, Jana Kramer, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sara Evans, and country radio personality Bobby Bones. Now, this season’s Jimmie Allen is taking his shot at winning the coveted mirror ball trophy. Representing for the country music scene, Kellie Pickler and Bobby Bones have each come away with the top prize for their respective seasons. Lauren Alaina and Jana Kramer each came close, both finishing in fourth place in the competition that pairs celebrities with ballroom dance professionals to dance for America’s votes.
Jimmie Allen and his partner, Emma Slater, kicked off this season last week with a Tango to “The Way I Are” by Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson. This past Monday, September 27th, the pair took the floor again with a Rumba, but this time featuring a very special backing track; Allen’s own “Make Me Want To”. The judges praised both the song and the dance, and the scores from the panels combined with Americas votes were enough to put the “Freedom was a Highway” singer through to the next round. Fans can vote for Allen and other celebrity favorites when Dancing With The Stars airs Mondays at 8PM ET on ABC.

We chatted with country singer-songwriter Lily Rose about her new EP, Stronger Than I Am, out this Friday, October 1st. Here are five things to expect from the project.
Lily Rose’s journey to release this new EP has been quite the whirlwind.
“To put in to perspective, 365 days ago I did not have TikTok,” shares the singer-songwriter, adding “It’s insane what’s happened in the last 9.5 months, let alone, the last 11 months.”
The seven songs were carefully chosen, so that Rose could fill a setlist to be able to perform for fans.
“It’s really special that all these songs I’ve been playing live and if you’ve been to a show, people have heard these already. So what I’m excited about is to see the growth of the songs and see people sing them back.”
Rose’s hit “Villain” started the trajectory of songs and themes of relatability in her story-telling EP.
“All of them have a really cool way of saying ‘I’m heartbroken’ or ‘I need to get over you’ or ‘I haven’t gotten over you,’ just so many ways in country music that this topic is done over and over again, and we found titles and hooks or we wrote titles and hooks in ways that have never been done before in country music.”
Although Rose loves every song on the project, the title track “Stronger Than I Am” is a standout to her.
“I feel like the “Villain” chapter of the last ten months is turning into the “Stronger Than I Am” chapter. There’s a reason that, that song is the title track. That song stands above the others. I think it’s really one of the best written country songs that I’ve heard in a long time.”
Finally, Rose shared with us how proud she is to finally release this type of music to the world, laced with all of her vast influences across genres.
“This is the music I’ve been trying to make over the last eight years.”

The singer’s debut self-titled record is officially twenty years old, but we still like to listen to it today. Although “Austin” is the clear fan-favorite, “That’s What I Call Home” is a deep cut worth mentioning. Right out of the gate, Shelton showed fans who he is and where he comes from with this song.
“Ready to Roll” – Red River Blue
“We got some laid back country tunes on the radio // We gonna burn all afternoon like it’s something to smoke // We gotta whole lot of nothing to do and nowhere to go // So baby I don’t know about you but I’m ready to roll”
This 2011 jam is a hidden gem! “Ready to Roll” is all about loving on your person and preferring to be with them, over anywhere else. It’s fun, sexy, and such a bop – all in one! Shelton nails it with this track.
“Just South of Heaven” – Bringing Back the Sunshine
“Yeah, she was taking me under // I might have lost my innocence // But she was saving my soul that summer // I don’t know much about eternity // Or where somebody like me’s gonna wind up going”

Who is Brooke Moriber? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…
Brooke Moriber
The Beginning:
We love introducing our community to up and coming artists in the country music world. Today we get to introduce you to a New York native, Brooke Moriber. The songstress is both a stellar songwriter and a powerhouse vocalist. Her story is one of resilience, strength, and perseverance.
“I grew up in Greenwich Village, a super artsy neighborhood in Manhattan,” shared Moriber. Due to her Manhattan upbringing, the singer was able to fall in love with all sorts of musical genres. “I was exposed to every kind of music under the sun and I always wanted to be a performer, since before I could remember,” she tells us.
Growing up, both of her parents were formerly involved in the arts. Because of that, they were hesitant about Moriber getting involved in the industry. “I actually got my first professional gig at eight years old. I begged my parents to bring me to the audition,” she recalls. As a child, Moriber landed the coveted role of the child Cosette on the popular Broadway Show Les Miserables. “I feel very very blessed that, that was my first intro to performing at any capacity.”
This started the songstress on the trajectory to perform for a living; despite, always having a desire to share her own story. She found inspiration in artists like Linda Ronstadt and Billy Joel, but truly loved many genres. “It ranged from 90s hiphop, to grunge to people like Sheryl Crow, Sara McLachlan, and Shania Twain,” shared Moriber. “I guess that’s where some of the country comes out of me, but I was listening to everything,” she adds.
Unfortunately, when the singer was a teenager, she was diagnosed with a rare eye disease that left her blind for four years. After a painful and tough road, to the doctor’s surprise, her disease went into remission, allowing her to fulfill her dreams once again. “When I went into remission, I realized that I really felt the power of music had helped me heal through it and I got to the point where I didn’t want to tell other people’s stories anymore, I wanted to tell mine.”
The Turning Point:
Moriber continued to perform on Broadway and played gigs with her band as much as she could in New York City. However, it was after many people kept telling her to try out Nashville that she fell in love with another city. “Everyone kept telling me that the type of music you write and the subjects that you write, you should go to Nashville.”
Eventually, Moriber went out to Nashville to do some co-writes. Although hesitant at first, she ended up falling in love with the city. “I’m a very, very proud native New Yorker, and I never thought I’d fall in love with another place,” she begins, “But Nashville has become my second home,” she tells us.
Moriber later adedd, “After my first writing session, I just knew this was home. A lightbulb just went off, and I formed a family out there of friends and musicians, and I felt like they welcomed me with open arms.” It was then that she began to travel back and forth from New York to Nashville for work.
Later the true turning point came when the singer chatted with her agent. “I walked into my agent’s office at a certain point and I said don’t send me on auditions anymore, I’m going to Nashville. I need to pursue my recording career.” Moriber added, “I knew that if I didn’t take the opportunity now, I would never have the guts to do that again and this was always what I truly dreamed of in my heart of hearts.”
Today:
Flash forward to today, Moriber is a signed artist with Reviver Entertainment Group. Her debut song, “The Town Made Us” is due out October 8th. We got an early listen to the song and we can attest to how good it is.
According to the singer, “I wrote it for my two hometowns. The two places that shape me and got me to this moment. All the things I’ve ever written about; resilient, strength, and overcoming challenge, those were the qualities that those two towns were showing during a really difficult time.”
If you are dying to listen to Moriber’s music now and cannot wait, then we encourage you to check out “In It Together” and “Better Days,” two songs that came out of Zoom writes during the Pandemic. On the latter, Moriber shares, “We were writing about being hopeful for the future, saying there’s going to be better days, I can feel it in my bones.” It is truly the anthem we need.
Fans can look forward to the release of her upcoming single, as well as the lyric video for “The Town That Made Us.” Moriber also promises more new music coming a the top of 2022. Be on the look out!

Country music is ever-growing and it’s sound is ever-changing. These five female artists are among the many fresh faces that are helping grow country music with their own unique flavor. We’re excited about what these ladies have done so far and what they will go on to do and we think you should be paying attention to them as they continue to pave their paths.
Ashley Cooke
Listen: “Jealous of the Sky”
Ashley Cooke is currently enjoying an incredible breakout year as an independent artist. We were first introduced to the budding star with the release of her debut single “Jealous of the Sky” in October of 2020, followed by “Sunday Morning Kinda Saturday Night”. The ladder debuted #1 on the iTunes Country Chart and #15 all-genre. Cooke added to the new music with her debut EP, ‘Already Drank That Beer – Side A’, recently released on August 27th. Cooke is a Tiktok success story. In fact, back in April she celebrated one year of her very first video that went on to receive over two million views and sent her into the public eye with a massive following. Cooke moved to Nashville when she was 18 to attend Belmont University and has since co-created The 615 House, a collab house in Nashville created as a result of the pandemic for country singers and songwriters to create content, build fan-bases, and collaborate with other like-minded young new talent.
Tenille Arts, alongside the remainder of the women on this list, were each named one of ten female artists in CMT’s Next Women of Country Class of 2021. Arts, born and raised in Canada, first caught attention when she appeared on The Bachelor in 2018, which resulted in a record deal with the indie label, Reviver Records. Her second appearance on the show came a year later when she performed her song “I Hate This”, which hit #1 on the US and Canadian iTunes Country Charts and #9 on US iTunes all-genre. Her third appearance on The Bachelor came just before she released her latest album Love, Heartbreak, and Everything In Between. Arts landed her very first number one song earlier this year with “Somebody Like That” and fans can look forward to brand new music from the singer-songwriter from her upcoming album, Girl to Girl, due out October 22nd.
Signed with Big Loud Records, MacKenzie Porter is experiencing rising success after two years of releasing music including her EP: Drinkin’ Songs: The Collection, which includes popular singles like “The One”, “Drinkin’ Songs”, and “These Days”. Porter also collaborated with Dustin Lynch earlier this year on their current fast-rising single “Thinking ‘Bout You”. The Canadian-native moved to Nashville in 2014. Since then she has collaborated with many well-known songwriters. She has shared the stage with some of the biggest in the business including Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton, Chris Lane, and Dallas Smith. We featured Porter in a spotlight interview late last year and you can check it out to learn more about her journey to country music here.
Harper Grae, an Alabama-native, made waves with a song she released earlier this year called, “Still Your Mother.” It is a beautiful song that pulls on the heart strings about mothers who have either suffered a miscarriage or are the mothers of what Grae likes to call ‘rainbow babies’. Personal to her own story, Grae received a much-deserved overwhelming response for mothers that have used this song as their own therapy, much like Grae did for herself. Grae released her debut album, Break Your Crowns, in 2017, and since then has released singles like “Monster” (2018), “Bloodline” (2018), “Muddy Water” (2020), “Best For You” (2020), and “Caviar and Bars” (2021). She has been named one of CMT’s “Five LGBTQ and Americana Artists You Need to Know” and received a 2020 GLAAD award for Rising Country Star.
A Baltimore native, Brittney Spencer made her way to Nashville in 2013 to follow her dreams of becoming a singer-songwriter. She has toured and performed as a background singer for Carrie Underwood and just recently kick-started her own musical career late last year when she released her 4-song debut EP Compassion in December of 2020. Kicking off the new year, Spencer sang on Common Hymnal’s Christian Album Praise and Protest singing “Thoughts and Prayers” with Brock Human. Most recently, she released her latest single, “Skinny & Sober”. Spencer received a shoutout from Maren Morris at the 2020 ACM Awards when she accepted her award for Female Vocalist of the Year and from Mickey Guyton back in April during ACM promotions and a segment “Country Music Looks Like”.

Jason Aldean surprised fans earlier today, September 27th, by announcing his plans to release a DOUBLE album project titled Macon, Georgia. The first 15 tracks are set to be released on November 12th, while the next 15 will continue to rollout until all 30 are available on April 22, 2022.
Jason Aldean announces double album, ‘Macon, Georgia’
Marking his 10th studio album, ‘Macon, Georgia‘, is named after Aldean’s hometown and celebrates where he is from and how far he has taken his sound. In addition to his current Top 5 single with Carrie Underwood “If I Didn’t Love You”, fans will have access to nine more tracks and five live tracks on November 12th with the albums first release, ‘Macon’.
Following the November 12th release, Aldean will continue to put out brand new songs leading up to the full release of all 30 tracks – totaling 20 new songs and at least one live hit off each of his previous albums, on April 22, 2022. The full release will also be marked by a commemorative three-disc vinyl set. Beginning today, fans can pre-order the first 15 songs here.

Scotty McCreery scored his fourth consecutive number one single with his song “You Time” off his newest record, Same Truck.
Scotty McCreery has lived a whole other life since he won over our hearts on the TV screen back in 2011’s American Idol. In the last few years, he has really found his footing as a country artist, singing songs about his faith, his now-wife, and country living. McCreery’s latest single “You Time” officially hit the number one spot on the charts. It follows “Five More Minutes,” “This Is It,” and “In Between.”
The song is all about craving that one on one time with your partner. Due to McCreery’s busy schedule, time with his family most likely feels even more special and necessary. The song was even written on the road, when the singer was at his busiest. Written by McCreery, Frank Rogers, and Aaron Eshuis, the fun, upbeat track shows that hitting pause in our busy lives to recharge with our significant others is important.

Written by Lambert with Nicolle Galyon and Natalie Hemby, the track reached the top of the Billboard Canada Country chart in 2014 and earned Lambert nominations for two GRAMMYs for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song.

Teaming up eleven years after their first duet back in 2007 with “Grown Woman”, Miranda Lambert and Jason Aldean joined forces for the 2018 hit song “Drowns The Whiskey” off of Aldean’s Rearview Town album. The song perfectly captures the pairs vocals and we’re sure it will be fan-favorite collaboration for years to come.

Although it’s only September, country music’s queen, Carrie Underwood put us in the holiday spirit today (September 24) with the release of the deluxe version of her Christmas album, My Gift. Check out our full review and listen to the brand new music below.
Underwood has proved she is a superstar in any genre, recording number-one songs and albums in country, pop, Christian, and holiday. My Gift debuted #1 across multiple global charts and remained at #1 on the Christian album chart 11 weeks after it was released. It consistently remained in the Top 5 throughout the 2020 holiday season, and even hit #5 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200. She plans on continuing this success with the release of this special edition project.
The new version adds “Favorite Time of Year”, which was actually released last year, but only available to Amazon Music subscribers. Underwood performed it during her HBO Max holiday special last holiday season. It’s a fun, up-tempo jingle in which she expresses why Christmas is her favorite time of the year. She loves the decorations, the snow, holidays movies, cinnamon and sugar cookies, and of course, the wishes that turned into presents under the tree.
“Love pouring out like the snow from the sky // Snuggled up together sitting by the fire // Oh, it’s magical, it’s my favorite time // Pretty little wishes tied up in a bow // And every little kiss is like we’re underneath the mistletoe // It’s music to my ears // Christmas is my favorite time of year”
Another new track, “All Is Well” is a brand-new gospel song written by Michael W. Smith and Wayne Kirkpatrick. Although there is only three verses total, the song is almost 4 minutes long, as Underwood lets her voice shine, extending notes beautifully.
The album concludes with the live recordings of “Let There Be Peace” and “Something In The Water.”
Between Christmas albums, Underwood released her debut gospel album, My Savior in March, which went to number one on the Christian Albums chart. It’s now been over three years since she released her last country album, Cry Pretty, which came out on September 14, 2018. She has released singles with Jason Aldean and Dan + Shay, however—“If I Didn’t Love You” and “Only Us” for the new movie, Dear Evan Hansen, respectively.
