Kassi Ashton Releases New Song “Black Motorcycle”

Kassi Ashton’s brand new song, “Black Motorcycle” is available now, October 7th on all streaming platforms. Accompanied by the announcement of Ashton’s partnership with Harley Davidson® as a brand ambassador, take a look below as we dive into the track.

Muted lyrics to start, with a grounded beat that follows, “Black Motorcycle” has a rock country soul with punk rock style. The electric guitar and tone of Ashton’s voice encompass a struggle for rebellion and a complete rumbling of the body mimicking that of the motorcycle.

In a recent press release, Ashton explains “I’ve always in my head kind of considered my music motorcycle country. I like music with weight at the bottom. That’s freeing and moving, but still sits down here,” motioning to the pit in her stomach.

The singer-songwriter hit the nail on the head, as this track most definitely does just that. It inspires escape with the wind blowing through your hair in the chorus, and a never-ending drive that starts deep in the gut.

Ashton shares a bond with her father over their love of motorcycles, further evolved with the announcement of her partnership with Harley Davidson® as one of its brand ambassadors. She has the gritty authenticity of one who doesn’t care what anyone thinks, but still has pop tendencies to remain connected to her audience.

Travis Denning Drops Fan-Favorite New Track “Goodyears”

Travis Denning’s brand new song, “Goodyears” is available now, October 9th on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Breakout country artist, Travis Denning, proves he is here to stay with feel-good new country jam, “Goodyears”. This song arrives following the success of several recent releases, including his first No. 1, “After a Few” and current country radio single “Where That Beer’s Been”. Denning consistently delivers genuine country songs that feature a laid-back cool twist, leading his music to stand out amongst others.

The new single, “Goodyears” is a lyrically dense tune filled with clever wordplays and small-town references. The Georgia natives sings of life’s ups and downs, emphasizing that it’s the simple joys that make it all worth living. In the song’s chorus, Denning shares this message with his fans, using the double meaning of “Goodyears” and the highway as a metaphor to life.

“Rollin’ on them Goodyears / Flyin’ on them high times /  Circle K cold beer / Growin’ up on a Friday night … Just keep on doin’ how we do it to get through it ‘round here / Rollin’ on them Goodyears”

The mellow guitar strings throughout the song make for a relaxing and authentically country listening experience. Denning paints a mental picture of life growing up in a small town with lyrical nods to “Friday nights”, “Jackpot scratch-offs”, and “Two-lane” roads, bringing forward memories and connecting with his fans through relatable experiences.

Travis Denning first played this song during live sets in early 2020, where fans felt an instant connection to the smooth and invigorating sound and feel-good message. After generating an initial buzz amongst the live-show listeners, the singer-songwriter officially released the track.

Listeners can all relate that life is full of struggles, hard work, and not-so-good times, but there are also many reasons to celebrate and enjoy the simple highs, which Denning details throughout the song.

Tenille Townes & Friends Release Virtual Cover of “Lean on Me”

As we are all utilizing apps such as FaceTime, Skype, and Zoom to stay in touch with our friends during this time of social distancing, music artists are no different. Rising country-star, Tenille Townes gathered friends such as Abby Anderson, Kassi Ashton, Keelan Donovan, Alex Hall, Adam Hambrick and Caylee Hammack for a group video chat/collaboration for the classic feel-good, Bill Withers tune, “Lean on Me”. Watch the video below:

The video starts with Townes on her couch, alone with her guitar. When she finishes the first verse, the screen breaks into seven sections. Hammack then appears and begins singing the next verse. Shortly after, the other five artists join the call. Each artist individually sang their own verse, but when the chorus comes around, in perfect harmony, they create a stunning rendition of the popular 1972 song, symbolizing that even in times of isolation, we can all come together to make something beautiful.

“These crazy times right now make me so grateful for my friends, for music, and the way we are still all connected,” Townes admitted. “It brought me so much joy hearing everybody’s voices come together on this song, and it’s my hope that it brings people a little joy and comfort out there when they hear it. We really all do need somebody to lean on, especially right now.”

The video ends with the seven artists’ screens cutting to black. After everyone has signed off, a quote from fellow Canadian singer-songwriter and poet, Leonard Cohen is revealed. It reads: “There’s a crack in everything, that’s how light gets in.” This quote must really speak to Townes, as she has used it previously to caption one of her pictures on Twitter.

Earlier this year, Townes joined NYCountry Swag for a Swag Session in New York City, performing two songs and chatting with our Managing Editor, Christina Bosch. Check out the full performance and interview in the video below.

Keep up with Townes by following her on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook.

If You Like Maggie Rogers, Then You’ll Love…

NYU alumni and indie-folk star Maggie Rogers has taken the music industry by a storm, garnering fans across many different genres. A lot of the elements of what makes her such a special artist is what makes a lot of country artists special.

What fans love most about her music is the high energy, and how timeless her stories are. That’s country music. If you like Maggie Rogers but aren’t too familiar with the country genre, NYCS has some recommendations for you!

Kacey Musgraves

There’s a reason Kacey Musgraves asked Maggie Rogers to open for her in Nashville! Musgraves is a poignant songwriter, much like Rogers, and both have a way of engaging fans with their words, voices, and their way of speaking up for what matters to them. Both artists’ have dreamy qualities to their music that makes it infectious; her whole catalog is amazing, but new fans should check out “Miserable” off Pageant Material and “Slow Burn” off Golden Hour.

To keep up with Kacey Musgraves, follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Kassi Ashton

Kassi Ashton is one of Nashville’s brightest new stars, and for good reason. She is a sharp writer with an even more captivating voice, and she leans on the more pop/r&b side of country, making her a perfect gateway artist for fans of other genres. Not only is she an amazing musician, but she designs her own clothes and wears them whenever she is on stage. She is unique and bold, just like Rogers. New fans should listen to her emotional “Pretty Shiny Things” and her current single “Hopeless”.

To keep up with Kassi Ashton, follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Brett Eldredge

When Brett Eldredge first appeared on the music scene, he established himself as a powerhouse male vocalist and as someone who knew how to let loose. Three albums later, he’s proved that he is also able to release vulnerable music. All of his songs are cathartic and intense in the best way possible, which are two important qualities that much of Rogers’ catalog has. Listen to “No Stopping You” and “Cycles”, two songs that deliver in both vocal performance and storytelling.

To keep up with Brett Eldredge, follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

[Listen] Kassi Ashton Releases Fan-Favorite “Hopeless”

Kassi Ashton Hopeless

Female songstress and powerhouse, Kassi Ashton is taking country music by storm. She continues to deliver songs laced with authenticity, empowerment, and sass to her fan base and to country radio, and we cannot get enough of her unique talent. Today, Ashton released a fan-favorite, “Hopeless.”

Following the jam “Field Party,” “Hopeless” is a different approach on vulnerability. Although it can easily be labeled a ‘break-up song,” Ashton’s new track is much more than that. The song is emotional, painful, beautiful, and honest, all wrapped up in clever word-play and a smooth production. The singer’s polarizing vocals are reminiscent of the late Amy Winehouse, and despite, the melancholy nature of the song, Ashton delivers a strong and self-assured swagger.

“Hopeless” paints a picture of what people are often thinking after the end of a relationship. It would be easier to not have to feel our feelings or to just move on, but like anything else, getting over someone and healing is a process that takes time. The impactful track can easily relate to many moments in a person’s life, where it feels pointless or tough to hold on to hope. We commend Ashton for using her platform to speak her truth, while also validating the feelings of so many others.

“Maybe I should hope, less / Then maybe I can care, less / Maybe I could call you just an excuse for all the stupid shit I do / Maybe I should feel, less / Then I could drop a couple tears, less”

Our 2019 Artist to Watch shows no signs of slowing down! Since wrapping up her stint on Maren Morris’ all-female tour, Ashton has been busy with another country-wide tour. The singer-songwriter is one of the openers at select shows on Jordan Davis’ Trouble Town Tour. The tour hits New York City in March, but fellow songstress, Hailey Whitters will be in the opening spot.

To keep up with Kassi Ashton follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

“Hopeless” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

Jordan Davis Releases “Trouble Town” and Announces Headlining Tour

Jordan Davis Trouble Town Tour

Mike Spotz (@illkoncept) for NYCountry Swag

With both a number one and number two single under his belt “Singles You Up” and “Take It From Me” from his critically-acclaimed debut record Home State, Jordan Davis decided to up the ante, finally releasing new music. “Trouble Town” premiered last Friday (10/25) and it has the signature Davis vibe that fans are sure to love. Fan club ‘The Parish’ members got to hear the song first, as Davis made it available early for diehard fans.

The new mid-tempo song is laid-back, cool, and enticing, fitting into his catalog of songs effortlessly. Its sensual message is clearly meant for lovers, as Davis laments about knowing that he’s headed for ‘no good,’ but that he cannot help himself. Written by the singer with songwriters, Josh Jenkins and Matthew Jenkins, the song is as relatable as it gets. We all can relate to knowing that something or someone is bad for us, but yet, it is still desirable. As always, Davis conveys honest and vulnerable lyrics that make his music so refreshing.

“Gimme those ‘Leave here’ eyes / I’ll follow you out that door / Ain’t even left the parking lot / Already know that I’m heading for / Trouble town”

Davis just ended a successful opening gig on tour with Old Dominion. We caught his performance when the tour stopped in New York City back in May. Going forward, the recording artist will be a staple at country music festivals this season, including Tortuga as well as his headlining tour, announced early this morning. The “Trouble Town” Tour will feature two rising female artists that we love, Hailey Whitters and Kassi Ashton. Both ladies just joined Maren Morris on her GIRL The World Tour and we caught the show at Radio City Music Hall.

“I’m really excited to get back on the road and in front of my amazing fans,” Davis says in a recent press release. “Kassi is just a true artist in every sense of the word and Hailey is an extremely talented songwriter, I’m glad the rest of the world is getting to know both of them. Not only are they incredible songwriters, singers, and artists but they are even better people and I’m honored to have them out with me.”

Maren Morris’ GIRL The World Tour Sells Out The Iconic Radio City Music Hall

What do the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and Radio City Music Hall all have in common? They are iconic New York City landmarks and on Friday night, three women who all hail from different cities in the country stood on the stage at the latter, sang their hearts out and inspired a sold-out crowd. Maren Morris’ GIRL: The World Tour made its way back to the tristate area this past weekend, a few months after playing smaller venues around the city including Brooklyn Bowl and Terminal 5.

The sheer fact that her fans are so dedicated that they sold out another venue, this time a room filled with six thousand seats, is remarkable, but, what is even more outstanding is these country music fans all came to see three women. In a time where Morris and Kelsea Ballerini are the only two females who have made it to the top of the charts in the past year and a half, the amount of love and support for these three female artists displayed throughout the night was palpable.

The night of girl power kicked off with Hailey Whitters, a smalltown Iowa native who has been grinding away in Nashville, writing music and performing around town for 12 years, all while waiting tables to pay the bills. Feeling like a human disco ball, she laughed, Whitters took the stage covered in sparkles from her romper to her shoes and even specks of sparkles in her tights. She delicately delivered songs that are soon to be released this Friday, on her EP The Days including “All The Cool Girls”,  “Dream Girl”, “Heartland” and the title track.

Her cool, folky rhythm and honest songwriting captivated the fans who arrived early.  “To anyone out there tonight hanging on to the tail end of a dream, and wondering if you should just give it up…don’t,” Whitters humbly emotes to the crowd before playing the song that truly ‘turned it all around’ “10 Year Town”. She thanked Morris who she said, “changed the whole damn game” for her by inviting her out on this tour, allowing her to showcase her talent to a sea of new fans each and every night.

Next up, was one of our 2019 Artists to Watch, Kassi Ashton, who absolutely brought the heat and the energy to the famed stage. Ashton who is as unique as they come, kicked her set off with “Taxidermy”, a tongue in cheek revenge track that was released last year. This powerhouse danced in front of white flames, singing not only her previously released tracks, “Violins”, “California, Missouri” and “Pretty Shiny Things” but she performed an epic cover of Eric Church’s “Chattanooga Lucy” as well as Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts”, which was met with screams from the sold-out audience.

Ashton has the ability to make you fall in love with her charismatic personality while watching her perform, enticing you to get up and dance but also carefully listen to her well-crafted lyrics. After seeing her set, we are certainly proud to have named her one of our Artists to Watch this year and we just know she will be garnering throngs of new fans on this tour run.

The most nominated artist in the upcoming CMA Awards was up next, headliner, Maren Morris. She opened her set with her latest number one single “GIRL”, and Morris, who may be small in stature, commanded the attention of the sold-out venue standing behind a mic stand, holding an acoustic guitar and strumming those familiar first chords. Throughout the night, Morris performed songs from both of her albums, HERO and GIRL.  “Thank you so much, this is honestly such a friggin bucket list dream of mine to play this venue and the fact that you sold it out, it’s Friday night, it just means the world to me,” she gratefully expressed.

The true songwriter was also on display throughout her set as she took time to chat with the audience about moments in her life that have ultimately led her to stand under that legendary velvet curtain. It was apparent to all in the room how important music is to the songstress, especially before she performed “A Song For Everything”. “In this weird ass world that can sometimes feel really fucked up and dark, music is kind of the most magical form of time travel, and for me, it’s the strongest sense tied to memories,” she stated “You feel that song, when you hear a lyric or hear a chord and it just immediately transports you back to the first time you were on the way to kindergarten in your mom’s car, and there was a song on in the background, also your first kiss and the first time someone just completely destroyed your heart, there are those songs that became the soundtrack of those periods in your life.”

Of course, she performed her biggest hits including her collaboration with Zedd and Gray, “The Middle”, her first number one hit “I Could Use A Love Song” and “80’s Mercedes”. She even took a few moments out of her show to pay homage to her brand new band, The Highwomen which were celebrating their album release day. Morris along with Amanda Shires, Natalie Hemby, and Brandi Carlile make up the supergroup and she stood alone on the stage to perform “Crowded Table” from their debut, self-titled album. “This song was really born out of wanting to say, you know through all of the polarizing shit, please, come and sit with us at our table and let’s have a conversation….” she continued. “There is a lot of love in this world and I feel so much of it when we sing this song, this is our song “Crowded Table”.

She then welcomed back to the stage her direct support, Kassi Ashton and Hailey Whitters to perform together one for “the 90’s babies” a cover of The Cardigans “Love Fool”. The ladies even channeled their best inner Rockettes and closed out the song by linking arms for a sweet little kick line dance. The energy and the fun could be felt throughout Radio City to the very top of the venue.

No backup singers were needed at Radio City Music Hall on Friday night, the audience sang along like a well-versed choir to even the deep cuts including “Second Wind”, “Gold Love” and “Once”. Closing out the evening with the song that got it all started for her, “My Church”, it was the perfect ending to the most flawless night. As the confetti rained down, whether you have been a fan since before her superstardom, or you were seeing Morris perform for the very first time, there was no doubt that she deserved every single moment of applause and appreciation that New York City willingly gave.

6 Rising Female Artists Who Will Make Radio Pay Attention

One of the things we’re most excited about is the influx of ridiculously talented female singer-songwriters that are unapologetically bringing unique artistry to the country music world. In an era that’s dominated by male recording artists, these six female rising artists are breaking the mold and making a name for themselves in music.

1. Kassi Ashton
Kassi Ashton is one of NYCountry Swag 2019 Artists to Watch and is one of UMG Nashville’s most promising new artists. Armed with a soulful voice, unique vocals, and a fearless personality, Ashton is everything country music didn’t know they needed. She stays true to herself and doesn’t sugarcoat anything, which is why we love her! Listen to her songs “Field Party” and “Violins” to truly understand her talent. P.S most of the outfits you see her wearing, she designed and created her self, just another tidbit that makes her the coolest. Keep up with Ashton via her Instagram and Twitter.

2. Tenille Townes
Another artist we just can’t get enough of is Tenille Townes. Between her raw vocals and impressive songwriting, Townes is the full package. She shines on emotional songs like “Somebody’s Daughter” and “I Kept the Roses.” Check her out on tour this summer with Dierks Bentley! We are proud that she is not only one of our 2019 Artists to Watch, but also a Swag Spotlight alum. Read our Swag Spotlight with Townes and follow her on Instagram and Twitter to learn more.

3. Ingrid Andress
We can’t say enough good things about the next artist on our list, Ingrid Andress. After being introduced to her music at an exclusive Warner Music Nashville showcase, back in February, we haven’t stopped singing her praises. Andress is the definition of innovative, and truly embodies the new wave of female country artists that are emerging. Her vocal range and clever wordplay are evident in her songs “Lady Like,” “More Hearts Than Mine,” and “Both”. Be sure to follow her on Instagram and Twitter.

4. Abby Anderson
Singer-songwriter, Abby Anderson is one to look out for. She already played her first headlining show in New York City last year and is gearing up to take the stage again, opening up for Rob Thomas at the Beacon Theatre in NYC on July 29th & 30th. We love her sassy new song “GOOD LORD” and can’t wait for more new music. Not to mention, her debut EP I’m Good was a great introduction to her unique artistry. Read our Swag Spotlight with her here, and keep up with her via Instagram and Twitter.

5. Lauren Jenkins
Lauren Jenkins is equally as stunning, as she is talented, and we knew she had to make our list. Jenkins is an artist we are so excited about. She is full of authenticity, raw talent and emotion, and she can literally sing anything. After witnessing her skills live during our Swag Session, and again in her opening spot on tour with The Wild Feathers, we can confidently say she’s a must listen to! Check out her songs “Running Out of Road” and “No Saint” off her debut studio album No Saint. Make sure to follow her on Instagram and Twitter too!

6. Caylee Hammack
Finally, Caylee Hammack rounds out our list of impressive female rising country artists. She’s another artist who embodies uniqueness. She doesn’t abide by the “rules” and gifts us all with music that is authentic to who she is as a person. We are loving her style, personality, and of course her vocals! The fiery redhead is killing it, and we can’t wait to see what’s to come for her in the future. Make sure to give her debut single, “Family Tree” a listen to. Keep up with Hammack on Instagram and Twitter.

That wraps up our list of six of the most fearless and talented female artists in the country music industry right now!

The reigning 2018 CMA Entertainer of the Year and 2019 ACM Entertainer of the Year, superstar Keith Urban released the music video for his latest single “Drop Top” featuring rising artist and one of our 2019 Artist to Watch, Kassi Ashton. Viewers get a first-hand look into the energy Urban brings to the stage as the video showcases his performance at one of his shows of the Grafitti U Tour.

Written by Urban, Josh Osborne, Jimmy Robbins, and Maureen McDonald, “Drop Top” is the ultimate road-trip song about a girl with new found freedom on her way to Coachella with feathers in her hair and girlfriends by her side. The video begins with a roaring crowd and Urban making his way from his tour bus to the stage. Urban effortlessly plays guitar and sings to thousands of screaming fans.

Ashton appears on the large screens behind Urban as her powerful voice sings over a thumping bass and heavy guitar. Flashing white lights create a club-like atmosphere as she sings the pulsing chorus, “Saturday night, feeling alright / Show him what he lost in my jeans skin tight / Stars coming out, the music up loud / Saturday night, feeling alright.” Clips from when Ashton joined Urban live at his show in Nashville are intertwined in the dynamic music video that magnifies the undeniably exciting and unique collaboration.

This is the third song that Urban has released so far in 2019. “Drop Top” is a follow up to the cover of Foy Vance’s “Burden” and his most recent sentimental hit song “We Were” co-written by Eric Church. Urban will continue his #1 Graffiti U Tour throughout the rest of the summer at various festivals along with a stop in Atlantic City, NJ at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, August 17th.
