Chris Young Collaborates with Old Dominion on “Everybody Needs a Song”

Chris Young collaborates with Old Dominion on brand new song, “Everybody Needs a Song” available now, April 29th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

As we anticipate the June release of Chris Young’s Famous Friends (Deluxe Edition) album, fans are getting a taste of the project. The first of six new collaborations between Young and fellow country artists is here. The singer collaborates with Old Dominion on the brand new song “Everybody Needs a Song.”

Although an unexpected collaboration, it is truly a perfect pairing. “Everybody Needs a Song” has the potential to be the song of the summer, with its catchy and nostalgic lyrics. Both Young and Old Dominion bring their signature sounds to their respective verses, while the chorus makes you want to just sing along with them.

“And when we can’t find the words, the radio can // Yeah, we all need a thunder road to make the wheels run down the highway // Yeah we all need a sweet home Alabama when ya wanna play air guitar // a little lean on me when ya need a friend, won’t back down when ya need to be strong // at the end of the day, man, everybody needs a song”

“Everybody Needs a Song” is one of our favorite new country songs to date.

Chris Young: ‘Famous Friends’ – Album Review

Chris Young’s new album Famous Friends, released today, August 6th is his first record in nearly four years and features collaborations with his own famous friends, including Kane Brown, Lauren Alaina, and Mitchell Tenpenny. Read our full review below.

Since bursting onto the country music scene with his debut album nearly fifteen years ago, Chris Young has been one of country music’s mainstay voices. Today, August 6, the crooner released his follow up to 2017’s Losing Sleep, featuring fourteen new songs, all but one of which he co-wrote. Young also lent his hand to producing the album alongside frequent collaborators Corey Crowder, Mark Holman, and Chris DeStefano.

“I know I’ve said it before, but I honestly can’t say it enough – I am so excited to be releasing my new album,” shared Young in a statement. “There are so many incredibly talented artists, songwriters, and producers – all friends of mine – who helped make this album possible. Having friends share their talents as collaborators, songwriters, producers, and more, it’s only natural to call the album Famous Friends.

The album opens with the one-two punch of the previously-released “Raised on Country” and “Famous Friends,” setting the stage for the collection which weaves seamlessly through moving ballads and rowdy party tracks. If not for the huge success of “Famous Friends” ft. Kane Brown, the album would’ve been named Raised On Country, which would’ve been equally fitting.

Keeping in line with the record’s title, Young enlists some of his famous friends on other tracks, including “Town Ain’t Big Enough,” a stirring duet with Lauren Alaina that was co-written by Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney. Meanwhile, Mitchell Tenpenny appears on and co-wrote “At the End of the Bar,” with Young and Chris DeStefano. The song celebrates the “million things that you can find” at the end of the bar, including your true love or next broken heart.

Young shows his softer side on “Rescue Me,” “Break Like You Do,” and “Love Looks Good On You.” On “Love Looks Good On You,” which has almost a 60s, doo-wop feel, Young slips into his falsetto as he celebrates the love he’s found, crooning about how good a woman in love looks. Meanwhile on “Break Like You Do,” he’s struggling to recover from a breakup as he watches his former flame move on. “I see you’re doing well // Well, I’m not // Got someone new in your life // Well, I don’t,” He sings regretfully. “I been busy wantin’ you back // And you been busy movin’ on way too fast.”

It’s not all love and ballads on Famous Friends, with Young blowing the roof off on the anthemic and rowdy “One of Them Nights” that screams of future concert opener.  There’s also “Hold My Beer Watch This,” a tongue-in-cheek ode to those bad decisions made while drinking.

The album ends with “Tonight We’re Dancing,” which gives off “Getting You Home Vibes.” Young isn’t messing around here; he’s turning down the lights and making a magical night for one special lady. “So tonight we’re dancing // Barefoot in the kitchen // Spinning alone to a George Strait song // You Look So Good In Love,” he croons. “And when it’s just us // All I wanna do is stare into your eyes all night long // Heart to heart // Hand in hand.”

Of Famous Friends, Young says, “I want people to fall in love with it, blow their speakers listening to it, dance to it, party along with it, cry to it, just live it – and I can’t wait to start playing this new music on the road soon.”

It’s safe to say he’ll have no problem with those goals for Famous Friends, as there are definitely songs to dance to, cry to, fall in love to, and maybe most importantly, fall in love with.

5 Things to Know About Chris Young’s New Album ‘Famous Friends’

As we anticipate the release of Chris Young’s new album Famous Friends, due out Friday, August 6th, we’re sharing five things to know about the record that we learned from a recent interview with the singer.

  1. The title track to the new record “Famous Friends” was intended to be a multi-faceted story that is relatable to fans.

“There is an angle to this that is supposed to be what’s going to click with everybody that hears it. It’s not what you think when you first see the title. […] We’re really taking the hat off to all the people that might not be famous to everybody else but they’re famous to you, to your hometown, to your friends.”

  1. The new record is full of collaborations and duets, which inspired Young to name the record ‘Famous Friends.’

“There are more guest appearances on this project than I ever had before. […] From producers to writers to players, there are so many people that got involved in this, whether they are well-known to the outside world or whether they’re well-known to the circle of Nashville songwriters or Nashville music.”

  1. The new record marks the first time Young ever produced songs with collaborator and songwriter Chris DeStefano (“Aw Naw” “Losing Sleep”).

“We really spent a lot of time in the fifteen months trying out different production stuff and making sure all of the songs on the record have their own space.”

  1. Famous Friends was reinvented during quarantine and turned into an entirley new project far past the last four years when the project first started.

“A lot of the stuff… take “At The End of a Bar” specifically, that got written when it froze over in Nashville this year,” adding later, “There are so many songs that got written and cut during this period of time. Now fans get even more music with fourteen songs.”

  1. Young did not listen to the full album in order until he had a physical copy of it when it was ready to come out.

“I’ve done all of the tiny tweaks before sending it to masters […] When we get that first physical one in, I’ll grab a CD, get in my car and listen to it top-down once, and I’m like ‘alright, it’s complete.’”

Chris Young Releases New Single “Break Like You Do”

Chris Young’s new song “Break Like You Do” off his forthcoming record ‘Famous Friends’ is available everywhere now, July 23rd. This follows Young’s most recent single “One of them Nights” released earlier this month, as well as his song with Kane Brown, “Famous Friends” which went No. 1 just a few weeks ago.

“Break Like You Do” adds to Young’s growing list of recent releases ahead of his forthcoming album, Famous Friends, due out August 6th. The new song joins previously released tracks “Raised on Country”, “Famous Friends”, “Town Ain’t Big Enough”, “Drowning”, and “One of Them Nights”, all set to be a part of the full-length project.

“Break Like You Do” is a breakup song about one person who is taking the breakup a lot harder than the other. And what is making getting over that person even harder, is that they’re not hurting at all. They’ve moved on and are doing fine, but the other person is completely broken. As if missing them and still being in love wasn’t enough.

I don’t drink like you do, I can’t just have one // ‘Cause I’m still drinkin’ bout us, so I’ll probably get drunk // Wish I could laugh and dance on a Saturday night // Like you do, like goodbye ain’t even crossin’ your mind // Maybe you’re just good at gettin’ gone // Or I’m just really bad at movin’ on? // I’m still in love, girl, it’s true // What can I say? // I hate that I don’t break like you do”

On the heels of Chris Young’s radio single “Famous Friends” featuring Kane Brown going number one on country radio, the singer is sharing even more music. Today, Young drops another jam entitled “One of Them Nights.”

This song has “tour” written all over it! “One of Them Nights” is a rowdy, feel-good song that will get everyone’s hearts pumping, during a live show. Young taps into his party-side on the brand new track. The new song is just another taste of what fans can expect from the entertainer’s upcoming album Famous Friends, due out on August 6th.

“Feels like one of them nights // Barbed wire, mud-tired, throw a pallet on the fire // We’ve been waiting all week // Shoes on the floorboards, creakin’ dance floor // sounds like a party to me // feels like one of them nights”

Young has a knack for weaving hard-hitting songs throughout his projects. “One of Them Nights” definitely fits the bill. Make sure to check back next month for our full review of the upcoming record!

Chris Young and Kane Brown Earn #1 Song with “Famous Friends”

Chris Young and Kane Brown earn #1 song with their collaboration “Famous Friends.” The song is officially the top song at country radio.

Back in November, Chris Young dropped a brand new song in collaboration with his buddy, fellow superstar Kane Brown. That song is of course, hit single, “Famous Friends.” Today, the track is the number one song at country radio.

Written by Young with Cary Barlowe and Corey Crowder, the song is an ode to amazing people in Rutherford, Hamilton, and Davidson Country, Tennessee, all places that are special to the singer. The twosome sing about local heroes like preachers, sheriffs, and teachers. The collaboration marks the second time Young and Brown have shared the mic on a song. Back in 2016, the singers released “Setting the Night on Fire” together.

“I’ve got some famous friends you’ve probably never heard of // But back in Rutherford County our crowd is second to none // You might not know ‘em here in this big city we’re in // But when I go back home I’ve got some famous friends // Yeah I do”

“Famous Friends” is the 12th official number one single for Young. For Brown, the song brings his total hits to seven. Quite a feat for talented artists!

Chris Young Drops New Song “Rescue Me” Ahead of Forthcoming Album

Chris Young’s new song, “Rescue Me” is available now, June 11th, on all streaming platforms. The song marks the first peek at his forthcoming 8th studio album due out this August. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Written by Chris Young with Christian Stalnecker, Josh Hoge, Mark Holman, and Matt McGinn, “Rescue Me” is a mid-tempo ballad about finding that special person who becomes the one you put before yourself, the person you’d do anything for, and the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. However, before making that commitment you want to make sure that person is ready to reciprocate those feelings and is ready to rescue you. It’s a beautiful track that teaches an important lesson that relationships should be an equal partnership and that everyone deserves to find their hero.

“But tell me, who is gonna rescue me? // ‘Cause it sure feels like I’m kryptonite // How you got me on one knee, with my hand out beggin’ for mercy. // Yeah, what’s a happy ending if I can’t get the girl? // What’s it matter if I save the world if you don’t promise me before you take this ring // And rescue me …”

Young first teased the song back in February, asking fans for feedback and if it should be included on his next album. This isn’t the first time the singer-songwriter has teased new music on social media. He previously shared “If That Ain’t God” and “In It”.

Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to hear the rest of the album. Young announced that his eighth studio album, Famous Friends, will be released on August 6thth. It’s been four years since the Tennessee Native released a full album and we can’t wait to listen!

Chris Young and Kane Brown Collaborate on “Famous Friends”

Chris Young released a new song today, November 20th, with fellow country star, Kane Brown titled “Famous Friends,” available to buy, stream or download now.

Country star Chris Young pays homage to the people of Rutherford, Hamilton, and Davidson County, Tennessee in his new song “Famous Friends” featuring his good friend, Kane Brown. Written by Young, Cary Barlowe, and Corey Crowder, this fun track shouts out specific individuals that may not be known to the general public, but are big names back in their hometowns. Young and Brown have collaborated in the past with the song “Setting the Night on Fire,” on the deluxe version of Kane Brown’s debut album. This is Young’s first new release since “If That Ain’t God” back in July.

I’ve got some famous friends you’ve probably never heard of / But back in Rutherford County our crowd is second to none  / You might not know ‘em here in this big city we’re in  / But when I go back home I’ve got some famous friends

“This song is a piece of me, and it means a lot because it’s honest and it’s real-life,” Young shared in a recent press release. “Plus, Kane and I are good friends, and being able to have that history together, it adds a whole other level to the track. ‘Famous Friends’ is one of my favorite songs – it’s personal and it’s a lot of fun, so I’m glad it’s getting out there for people to hear it.”

Aside from this being their second song together, Young and Brown have an extensive history. Growing up, Brown was a huge fan of Young’s, winning his eleventh-grade talent show singing a rendition of Young’s hit song “Getting’ You Home.” His first live concert was seeing Young in support of Brad Paisley on his 2013 Beat This Summer Tour. The two later toured together on Young’s 2018 Losing Sleep Tour. Young performed “Drowning” at the 2019 CMT Artists of the Year special in honor of Brown’s drummer Kenny Dixon, who passed away in a car accident earlier that week. He recently won Performance of the Year at the 2020 CMT Awards for that performance.

Young has been slow to drop new music, with his last studio album being released back in October of 2017. However, we believe he is close to a new album, with “Famous Friends” being the fifth single he has put out since Losing Sleep. Others include “Drowning,” “If That Ain’t God,” “This Town Ain’t Big Enough” with Lauren Alaina, and his top-5 radio hit, “Raised on County.”
