Tenille Townes & Friends Release Virtual Cover of “Lean on Me”

As we are all utilizing apps such as FaceTime, Skype, and Zoom to stay in touch with our friends during this time of social distancing, music artists are no different. Rising country-star, Tenille Townes gathered friends such as Abby Anderson, Kassi Ashton, Keelan Donovan, Alex Hall, Adam Hambrick and Caylee Hammack for a group video chat/collaboration for the classic feel-good, Bill Withers tune, “Lean on Me”. Watch the video below:

The video starts with Townes on her couch, alone with her guitar. When she finishes the first verse, the screen breaks into seven sections. Hammack then appears and begins singing the next verse. Shortly after, the other five artists join the call. Each artist individually sang their own verse, but when the chorus comes around, in perfect harmony, they create a stunning rendition of the popular 1972 song, symbolizing that even in times of isolation, we can all come together to make something beautiful.

“These crazy times right now make me so grateful for my friends, for music, and the way we are still all connected,” Townes admitted. “It brought me so much joy hearing everybody’s voices come together on this song, and it’s my hope that it brings people a little joy and comfort out there when they hear it. We really all do need somebody to lean on, especially right now.”

The video ends with the seven artists’ screens cutting to black. After everyone has signed off, a quote from fellow Canadian singer-songwriter and poet, Leonard Cohen is revealed. It reads: “There’s a crack in everything, that’s how light gets in.” This quote must really speak to Townes, as she has used it previously to caption one of her pictures on Twitter.

Earlier this year, Townes joined NYCountry Swag for a Swag Session in New York City, performing two songs and chatting with our Managing Editor, Christina Bosch. Check out the full performance and interview in the video below.

Keep up with Townes by following her on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook.

Abby Anderson Drops Romantic Single “I’ll Still Love You”

Abby Anderson I'll Still Love You

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and Abby Anderson’s new romantic single “I’ll Still Love You” is perfect to top off your playlists.

Written by Anderson, GRAMMY-award winner Josh Kerr, and hit songwriter Jordan Minton, “I’ll Still Love You” rivets on Anderson’s enthusiasm commencing from a second date. This sensual, feel-good love song for everybody paints what might be thrown at a relationship, all the highs and lows and everything in between. Anderson sings about turning old and gray and no matter what, they will always be there for each other.

“Oh, we’re gonna laugh // We’re gonna cry, we’re gonna fight // Oh, but we’re gonna live // Maybe have a few kids // Whatever happens // I’ll promise you this // When the colors fade // From these picture frames // When my hair turns gray // The seasons all change // And we’ve seen better days // Whatever this life puts us through // Baby, I’ll still love you”

The Black River Entertainment Recording Artist shared on Instagram, “I heard someone once say that if you wanna stay young, stay in love. So I just wanna stay in love for the rest of my life. In love with my friends, my family, myself, this life, my man (yes it’s about him wut u expect srsly if I had one wish it’d be that everyone in this world could know him) all of it. What a beautiful gift it is to love. “I’ll Still Love You” is OUT BBY!!!”

On February 6th, The Country Music Association announced an international showcase including Abby Anderson as well as Cassadee Pope, Niko Moon, and Mitchell Tenpenny that’ll be taking place in March. This tour will be visiting Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. For more on Abby Anderson tune into our Swag Session with her from last year.

“I’ll Still Love You” Lyrics

Oh, look at those smiles
Sun on the waves
I almost taste
The salt in the air
Oh, and doesn’t it feel
Like just yesterday
Was our second date
And I still get nervous
When you hold my hand
It still feels perfect
When you ask me to dance

When the colors fade
From these picture frames
When my hair turns gray
The seasons all change
And we’ve seen better day
Whatever this life puts us through
Baby, I’ll still love you

Oh, we’re gonna laugh
We’re gonna cry
We’re gonna fight
Oh, but we’re gonna live
Maybe have a few kids
Whatever happens
I’ll promise you this

When the colors fade
From these picture frames
When my hair turns gray
The seasons all change
And we’ve seen better days
Whatever this life puts us through
Baby, I’ll still love you

When the sun does its damage
The paint on this house turns to rust
When the future’s the past
And there’s no more breath in my lungs

When the colors fade
From these picture frames
When my hair turns gray
The seasons all change
And we’ve seen better days
Whatever this life puts us through
Whatever time tries to undo
Yeah baby, I promise you
I’ll still love you

Abby Anderson Drops Powerhouse Anthem: “Flowers”

Abby Anderson Flowers

Abby Anderson premiered bombshell “Flowers” on October 11th after the assembly of singles “Guy Like You,” “GOOD LORD,” and the conclusion of touring the country as the supporting guest on Rob Thomas’ Chipped Tooth Tour. The 22-year old Black River Entertainment recording artist is acquainted with laying her heart on her sleeve for all to see even if it entails a little cheek.

“Flowers” embodies Anderson’s sass and absconds one knowing the singer + songwriter’s psyche down to a T after just one listen. This buoyant, audacious powerhouse of an anthem has Anderson far from reeling over a breakup. Give her all of the bouquets in the world but she will never be yours again. She sings: “There ain’t enough flowers down in Tennessee / There ain’t enough sorries beggin’ on your knees / Tulips won’t stop my two lips from sayin’ goodbye / Yeah, you can buy me daisies but they just gonna die / Roses are red, violets are blue / Ain’t enough flowers in the world, baby / Roses are red, violets are blue / Ain’t enough flowers in the world to make me come back to you.”

On the release date, the “Make Him Wait” singer + songwriter publicized on her social media accounts, “Wrote this sucker with Josh Kerr and Jordan Minton on a bus at 2 am. I lost my voice screaming that chorus at the top of my lungs and I hope y’all do too.”

Abby Anderson Opens for Rob Thomas in New York City

Rob Thomas Abby Anderson

The incredibly talented singer-songwriter Abby Anderson took the stage last night in the Big Apple to open up for Rob Thomas at the Beacon Theatre for the second night in a row. The firey Texas native was recently named Music Row’s “Next Big Thing for 2019” and her infectious personality lit up the stage.

Wearing a pair of badass tied up black high heel boots and a colorful, stylish ensemble, she said, “Thank you so much for coming to the show on a Tuesday, and thank you to Mr. Rob Thomas for letting us open for him on this tour.” Anderson has a loyal following that sang and danced to all of her songs. She has an incredible way of connecting with the audience, and in between getting everyone energized for Thomas, she gave insight into how she became an artist.

Abby Anderson Rob Thomas

Anderson shared her musical influences saying, “I grew up listening to all kinds of music, whether it was R&B, rap, and lots of country, and jokingly said, “I don’t know if you could tell by my accent.” She explained it was her Dad’s love for country music and growing up hearing it played in his truck that really influenced her. For more on her backstory check out our Swag Spotlight from last year.

Anderson sang her catchy single “Good Lord” that she recently performed at our LIVE Swag Session as well as on The Today Show. And before singing one of her newest songs, she said, “This one goes out to anyone out there with a special someone, tell them how much you love them and she sang the fun love song “Guy Like You.” Watch the Swag Session below.

The rising artist told the crowd, “I’m just a young woman myself growing up right now- the more I learn, the more I know my worth.” She continued, “All my ladies tonight, I hope you know you’re a queen, and I hope you’re getting treated like one, this song is called ‘Make Him Wait.'” Anderson also impressed the audience with songs “Dance Away My Broken Heart,” “Naked Truth,” and “I’m Good.”

She said “New York City, I am the luckiest girl,” and Anderson is definitely that. The sassy, talented young woman is making a name for herself in country music and has a bright future ahead of her. She wowed the crowd with her gentle voice, fearless energy, and unique artistry and proved herself to be one heck of an entertainer last night at The Beacon Theatre.

Rob Thomas Beacon

Next up was none other than the headliner, Matchbox 20’s frontman Rob Thomas. Although still a part of the most popular pop-rock band in all the history of music, Thomas has blurred genres over the years as a solo singer-songwriter. Even with a rocker’s edge, some of Thomas’ songs have a little bit of country flare. Thomas told the crowd, “You guys are here for us as much as we are here for you. This is not about us coming up here and playing music and you guys listening, this about a shared experience, this is about what music is about. It’s about celebrating life, it’s about celebrating being human with other humans, it’s about having a very good time and doing it together. And if you do it right, we all walk out of here into the streets of New York City and we feel like we shared a moment tonight together.” And what a moment everyone had. Thomas kept the crowd on their feet the entire show singing fan favorites such as, “3 A.M., the infamous Santana duet, “Smooth”,  “Lonely No More,” “Unwell”, “Ever The Same,” and his newest single “Can’t Help Me Now.”

You can catch Anderson opening up for Thomas’ Chip Tooth Tour throughout August. For dates and more information go to www.abbyandersonmusic.com.

6 Rising Female Artists Who Will Make Radio Pay Attention

One of the things we’re most excited about is the influx of ridiculously talented female singer-songwriters that are unapologetically bringing unique artistry to the country music world. In an era that’s dominated by male recording artists, these six female rising artists are breaking the mold and making a name for themselves in music.

1. Kassi Ashton
Kassi Ashton is one of NYCountry Swag 2019 Artists to Watch and is one of UMG Nashville’s most promising new artists. Armed with a soulful voice, unique vocals, and a fearless personality, Ashton is everything country music didn’t know they needed. She stays true to herself and doesn’t sugarcoat anything, which is why we love her! Listen to her songs “Field Party” and “Violins” to truly understand her talent. P.S most of the outfits you see her wearing, she designed and created her self, just another tidbit that makes her the coolest. Keep up with Ashton via her Instagram and Twitter.

2. Tenille Townes
Another artist we just can’t get enough of is Tenille Townes. Between her raw vocals and impressive songwriting, Townes is the full package. She shines on emotional songs like “Somebody’s Daughter” and “I Kept the Roses.” Check her out on tour this summer with Dierks Bentley! We are proud that she is not only one of our 2019 Artists to Watch, but also a Swag Spotlight alum. Read our Swag Spotlight with Townes and follow her on Instagram and Twitter to learn more.

3. Ingrid Andress
We can’t say enough good things about the next artist on our list, Ingrid Andress. After being introduced to her music at an exclusive Warner Music Nashville showcase, back in February, we haven’t stopped singing her praises. Andress is the definition of innovative, and truly embodies the new wave of female country artists that are emerging. Her vocal range and clever wordplay are evident in her songs “Lady Like,” “More Hearts Than Mine,” and “Both”. Be sure to follow her on Instagram and Twitter.

4. Abby Anderson
Singer-songwriter, Abby Anderson is one to look out for. She already played her first headlining show in New York City last year and is gearing up to take the stage again, opening up for Rob Thomas at the Beacon Theatre in NYC on July 29th & 30th. We love her sassy new song “GOOD LORD” and can’t wait for more new music. Not to mention, her debut EP I’m Good was a great introduction to her unique artistry. Read our Swag Spotlight with her here, and keep up with her via Instagram and Twitter.

5. Lauren Jenkins
Lauren Jenkins is equally as stunning, as she is talented, and we knew she had to make our list. Jenkins is an artist we are so excited about. She is full of authenticity, raw talent and emotion, and she can literally sing anything. After witnessing her skills live during our Swag Session, and again in her opening spot on tour with The Wild Feathers, we can confidently say she’s a must listen to! Check out her songs “Running Out of Road” and “No Saint” off her debut studio album No Saint. Make sure to follow her on Instagram and Twitter too!

6. Caylee Hammack
Finally, Caylee Hammack rounds out our list of impressive female rising country artists. She’s another artist who embodies uniqueness. She doesn’t abide by the “rules” and gifts us all with music that is authentic to who she is as a person. We are loving her style, personality, and of course her vocals! The fiery redhead is killing it, and we can’t wait to see what’s to come for her in the future. Make sure to give her debut single, “Family Tree” a listen to. Keep up with Hammack on Instagram and Twitter.

That wraps up our list of six of the most fearless and talented female artists in the country music industry right now!

Abby Anderson Thanks the “GOOD LORD” in Latest Single

Abby Anderson Good Lord

One of our 2019 Swag Spotlight artists, Abby Anderson is giving something for fans to be excited about. After debuting her EP, I’m Good back in September, and recently released a cover of the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper song “Shallow” from A Star is Born, with fellow country singer-songwriter, Jimmie Allen, Anderson is back with another new jam entitled “GOOD LORD.”

Infused with both country and R&B elements, the track compliments her debut EP beautifully. The lyrics are a sassy ode of gratitude to the “good Lord” for creating a man she deems as perfect. The song portrays a more vulnerable side lyrically for Anderson, while still maintaining an upbeat and unique sound with heavy guitars and enticing instrumentals towards the end of the track.

“Give him all the credit / Thank Him every day / Yes I do believe in heaven, every time you say my name / I bet the good Lord / took his sweet time on your dark hair and your brown eyes”

Catch the songstress on the ‘Chip Tooth Smile Tour’ with Rob Thomas, kicking off in May. New Yorkers can catch the show in New York City on both July 29th and July 30th at the Beacon Theatre. Head to abbyandersonmusic.com for tickets and more information.

To keep up with Anderson, follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

“GOOD LORD” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

Dylan Scott, Jimmie Allen and More Perform for Guys With Guitars

Guys With Guitars: My Country 96.1’s 8th Birthday Bash at Stereo Garden in Patchogue ended up with many unexpected surprises including a special female performing alongside the guys. The lineup this year featured Dylan Scott, Jimmie Allen, Tyler Rich, Riley Green, and Filmore who all took turns performing their biggest hits to date and telling stories behind each of the songs.

Guys with Guitars

Filmore kicked it off with his tracks ‘Country Song,” “Love That About You,” “Slower” and a hidden gem “Leave Our Mark” requested by the audience. Riley Green played the two songs he recently released, “Bettin’ Man” and his upcoming single “In Love By Now.” He also sang his unreleased track “Get That Man A Beer” and his radio smash hit “There Was This Girl,” which is currently #3 on both Billboard and Mediabase charts.

Next, Rich introduced his potential upcoming single “Leave Her Wild” by saying “Has anyone had a controlling ex?” The lyrics are “If you’re going to make her do something, make her smile; If you’re going let her dance, let her sing, let her be whoever she wants to be; leave her wild.” He explained the song is about “happy wife, happy life” and loving a girl for just the way she is.

Guys With Guitars

In the next round, Dylan Scott and Jimmie Allen played their biggest songs and even brought out a special guest. Allen started out the night by playing the first song on his album Mercury Lane “American Heartbreaker” to get the crowd started. Scott opened up with his catchy, smash hit “Hooked” and the crowd was screaming the lyrics. He was very interactive with the crowd, even roses were being thrown up on stage to his band.

Guys with Guitars

The singer-songwriter told stories behind his songs especially about his high school sweetheart turned wife and how they’re expecting their second child. Allen brought out his surprise guest, Abby Anderson to sing their collab on the resonating “Shallow” duet by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Anderson also sang her sassy, southern new single coming out tomorrow called “Good Lord.”  From the crowd’s participation and enthusiasm, it’s safe to say country music is a fan favorite on Long Island.

[Listen] Jimmie Allen & Abby Anderson Duet on Cover of “Shallow”

Shallow Abby Anderson Jimmie Allen

Arguably one of the biggest songs released recently, “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, has already garnered almost 400 million streams on Spotify and 300 million views on YouTube. The song, written by Andrew Wyatt, Anthony Rossomando, Mark Ronson and Lady Gaga who also sings the track with Bradley Cooper has won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and is nominated once again on Sunday night for an Oscar for Best Original Song.

As the highly anticipated performance on the Oscars looms, two of our favorite rising country artists decided to record and cover the smash hit, putting a spin on it that is truly all their own. Available everywhere today, Jimmie Allen and Abby Anderson take on Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s roles respectively.  Allen starts the song, and from the very first notes his sultry voice pulls you in and his unique runs will have the listener ready to hit replay again and again.

Anderson’s rasp is sweet and powerful, as she hits the chorus she proves her vocal chops. They softly sing together, accompanied by a piano and a solo acoustic guitar. “Shallow” has been performed by Lady Gaga alone as well as a duet with Bradley Cooper in Las Vegas but her most recent performance on the Grammy Awards was raw and ruthless, Allen and Anderson’s version is more subtle, allowing each and every note to be heard and appreciated.

Take a listen to the track below and join us in rooting for “Shallow” to win Best Original Song this weekend at The Oscars which airs live from L.A on Sunday, Feb 24 at 8:00 PM EST.

Abby Anderson Plays Her First Headlining Show in NYC

Last night (Oct 22.), Black River Records rising country artist Abby Anderson, had quite the memorable night playing to a sold-out crowd for her first ever headlining show, right here in New York City at the Mercury Lounge.  NYCountry Swag followers had the opportunity to win their way in to the special show all weekend long through our exclusive giveaway contest.

Nash FM 94.7 DJs Katie Neal and Jesse Addy took the stage to introduce the rising superstar. Entering the spotlight dressed in one of her signature stylish ensembles, Anderson wore a matching two-piece maroon long sleeve and pant set. Immediately starting off the night with the title track from her debut EP I’m Good, Anderson had the crowd singing along to every lyric. “Wassup everybody? Y’all ready to dance with me tonight?” Anderson said to the crowd before heading into the next song “Dance Away My Broken Heart.” Not a single person stood still for the next three minutes. Her infectious dance moves had everybody swaying to the beat.

Introducing an unreleased song titled “Closet,” Anderson shared, “I’ve been in Nashville now for a couple of years, writing songs to hopefully one day hear them on the radio and I just learned really quickly that there’s a whole bunch of beauty in sharing your story with others. So that being said, this is a little bit of mine.”  Next up was her very first single to country radio, “I just think I gotta be the luckiest girl in the world right now. To my country radio family, thank you so much for taking a chance on the new clique kid in the block. This song is called “Make Him Wait.”

Anderson continued to perform the very first song she ever released titled “This Feeling.” Teasing the crowd, “We’re gonna throw it back for a second, if you know this song, you a ‘day one homie’ okay,” said Anderson. The crowd responded with giggles and shouts before singing along.  Anderson repeatedly thanked her fans after performing each and every song.

Carrying on the night, Anderson had not one, but four surprises in store for her fans; all brand new, unheard, unreleased songs.  First up was “Greener,” an upbeat breakup story with a take on the phrase “the grass is greener on the other side.” Secondly, “A Guy Like You.”  Anderson shared the sweet story of her mother putting her into piano lessons when she was just five years old and how she made her practice every day, even when she did not want to; “But I’m glad she did because it brought me to all of you beautiful people.”

Continuously thanking the crowd, the singer-songwriter touched on a powerful message before performing “With The Radio On”, “No matter what, if you’re white, black, purple, green, whatever you are, whatever you choose to be, if there’s one thing we all have in common, it’s that music gets us through about anything. So if you’re like me, I hope this song means something to you, this is a little bit of my story.” Anderson belted out the moving lyrics while playing the piano.

“If there’s one thing I’ve noticed in all these shows I’ve played and all the new faces I have the privilege to meet every night, is that everybody seems to have a story and everybody seems to have history with someone, whether they like it or not. Whether it’s a fourth marriage or a first love, this song goes to you guys,” shared Anderson before playing “History.”
Closing out the show with the very last song on I’m Good, fans could not contain their excitement to sing along to the sassy anthem “Naked Truth.”

Anderson ended the night thanking her audience one final time, before letting everyone know she would be meeting every last person in the room at her merch table, where fans also had the opportunity to purchase NYCountry Swag gear for sale!  It was an unforgettable night not only for the rising artist but all of her New York City fans. Be sure to follow Anderson on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for upcoming shows and future announcements.  I’m Good is now available everywhere you stream or buy music.
