Following a University of Alabama Football Game on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020, several fan videos were released of Morgan Wallen seen partying, not wearing a mask, and surrounded by groups of people in several different locations throughout the night. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to sweep the nation, many fans and critics alike took to social media to express their concern for Wallen’s safety and the safety of others.

While few suspected he would be pulled from the prestigious show, Wallen took to Instagram Wednesday, October 7th to formally announce that he got a call that he will no longer be allowed to perform on the show this Saturday. In a lengthy video, the singer-songwriter shared the news along with a heartfelt apology.

Speaking directly to the camera from his New York City hotel room just 72-hours before what would have been his debut Saturday Night Live appearance, Wallen emotionally addressed the situation. “My actions this past weekend were pretty shortsighted and they have obviously affected my long term goals and my dreams. I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy. I take ownership for this. I’d like to apologize to SNL, to my fans, to my team, for bringing me these opportunities and I let them down.” He continues, “I wish I could have made country music, and my fans proud this Saturday.”

For the full apology, visit Wallen’s Instagram here or check out the video below.

In the past, SNL has hosted some of country music’s biggest legends as the musical guests including Thomas Rhett, Luke Combs, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton, and more.

Recently, Morgan Wallen has confirmed his sophomore double record is in the works. In the meantime, he’s teased fans with clips of unreleased songs. We look forward to what’s next for Wallen as he works through both his musical and personal journey and we anticipate the day that he’ll get his second chance to perform on the iconic show.
