George Birge: ‘Cowboy Songs’ – EP Review

George Birge releases his brand new EP, Cowboy Songs, out now, April 5th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new project here.

RECORDS Nashville recording artist, George Birge is one to look-out for in the country music landscape. He has found a way to bridge the gap between Texas-country music and more modern-country, while making sure to keep with his signature sound. Today, fans get a taste of his talent with his brand new EP, Cowboy Songs, out now.

The new record features seven songs, including, “It Ain’t Austin” and the title track, “Cowboy Songs.” On “It Ain’t Austin,” Birge reveals a deeper side, as the song expressing a longing for a relationship that has run its course. On the other hand, on the smokey-feeling, “Cowboy Songs,” the singer-songwriter showcases a more edgy version of his talent. The track is mesmerizing upon first listen, much like, track 6, “Hard on the Bottle.”

“‘Cause she only dances to cowboy songs // Loves to get lost in a moment // She comes alive when the neon’s on // Don’t wanna leave ’til it’s closing // So I’ve got a twenty on the jukebox to keep it playing // Anything that sounds like Waylon // And right here’s where I’ll be staying all night long // ‘Cause she only dances to cowboy songs // She only dances to cowboy songs”

Themes of love and loss continue to duel and blend in a perfect way throughout the record. On “Made You, Made Me,” Birge shares candidly about how different two people can be, putting the girl on a pedestal, and pondering how God could make both of them. The song feels different in a way that will have listeners wanting to listen to the song again and again. Similarly, on “Damn Right I Do,” Birge dives into the introspective nature again, yet this time, in a more relatable, nostalgic way. The singer-songwriter continues to delve into his feelings and nostalgia on “OK Breakin’ Up.” While the song depicts heartbreak, Birge appears to find solace, as the lyrics unfold in a beautiful story-telling way.

Finally, Birge ends the record with a mid-tempo song called, “Miss Missin’ You.” Throughout the song, the singer shares an all-to relatable experience of a relationship that is no longer. Despite missing things about the relationship, the idea of missing someone is no longer something he misses. The song is both a perfect addition to the record and a perfect way to end the EP.

Cowboy Songs truly has a song for every country music lover. All seven of the songs display different threads that make up George Birge’s unique knack of story-telling and sharing his art. The EP is a perfect addition to his growing catalog of music.

It’s about young love and that whole process of trying to make relationships work through the on again and off again cycles. My wife and I went through that journey during college and I know a lot of people out there have too.”

“We were small-town meant to be // My momma loved her, her daddy loved me // We’d burned up the room between her house and mine // We kiss in her driveway // By the time I hit the highway // She called to tell me goodnight one more time // And she’d say, “Love you, miss you, mean it // Boy, I’ll see you when I’m dreamin’ // I can’t wait to feel you hold me again // Till then I’ll be countin’ down the minutes // I’ll be climbin’ up these walls // Your kiss, I want it, need it // Love you, miss you, mean it, baby”

Chayce Beckham Earns First Number One Single with “23”

Chayce Beckham earns his first number one single at country radio with his song, “23.” Learn all the details here and listen to the song below!

American Idol favorite and one of country’s music rising stars, Chayce Beckham has had quite the career so far. From the moment he started releasing music, the singer-songwriter resonated with his fanbase. His debut single to country radio, “23” was a fan-favorite from the get-go, and now the single marks Beckham’s first number one of his career.

This moment is even more special for Beckham because “23” is an autobiographical song that he self-penned about his struggles and his life. Adding to the feat, “23” becomes the first number one song that was solely-written by the artist who also recorded it since Taylor Swift’s “Ours” in 2012. The hit song precedes the singer’s debut album, Bad For Me, which is slated for release this Friday, April 5th.

“Well, I went to California and I had me a band // And we played in all the bars in all the southern lands // We played all night, and we drank for free // All of my boys and me // Now I’m 23 and there ain’t nobody who can drink like me // Soon I’ll be 24 and the Lord knows that I can’t drink no more // I know I shoulda taken it slow // It’s not the way that my life goes // Now I know”

HIXTAPE VOL. 3: DIFFTAPE Featuring HARDY & Famous Friends

HARDY and friends honor Joe Diffie in the brand new collaborative album, HIXTAPE VOL. 3: DIFFTAPE, out now on, March 29th. Listen to the new songs here!

HARDY is the most in-demand songwriter in Nashville and is slowly becoming one of the most popular recording artists as well. However, his flourishing singing career has not stopped him from continuing the fan favorite HIXTAPE series. HIXTAPE started out as a 10-track project curated by HARDY in 2019 (before his debut album, A Rock) that featured 18 artists. Vol. 1 produced the chart topper, “One Beer” with Lauren Alaina and Devin Dawson. Vol. 2 took it up a notch, containing 14 tracks with 33 features. Vol. 3 took a different route, paying tribute to the late Joe Diffie on the fourth anniversary of his passing. The album contains 17 songs, all Diffie covers, including one unreleased track. The record was produced by Joey Moi.

The project came about at the CMA Awards when rap/pop star Post Malone joined HARDY and Morgan Wallen on stage to perform Diffie’s “John Deere Green” and “Pickup Man” as an homage to the GRAMMY and CMA Award-winning country star. Both songs charted in the top-5 with the latter spending five weeks at number one between 1994-1995.

Aside from those two songs, the project contains other number one hits such as “Home,” “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets),” “Third Rock from the Sun,” and “Bigger Than The Beatles.” First-time HIXTAPE features include legends such as Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, and the late Toby Keith. Rising country stars include Kameron Marlowe, Nate Smith, Lauren Watkins, and Larry Fleet. While HARDY played more of a supporting role on the record, only providing his vocals for three tracks, he got to sing the chorus on the unreleased song “Life Had Plans For Me,” alongside Diffie and his son, Parker. The tune tells the tale of someone whose plans of becoming a football star were halted when he received the news that he was going to be a dad. Listen to the reflective, heart-warming story below!

“When something more important comes along // And you’re forced to give up // What you’ve been workin’ toward // Waitin’ for, chasin’, slavin’, cravin’, and prayin’ for // The chance to live your dreams // He said I had plans for life // Oh but life had plans for me”

“As someone who had the profound privilege of performing alongside my father, it fills my heart with immense joy to witness his enduring legacy continued with the same passion and fervor that he embodied,” Parker Diffie shared in a recent press release. “The release of HIXTAPE: Vol. 3: DIFFTAPE is an opportunity to not only celebrate the past but also to embrace the future with reverence and enthusiasm.”

Finding artists for this record must have been an easy task for HARDY and Big Loud. Diffie will always be remembered as an icon who transcended the genre in the 90s. We could imagine, it would be an honor to cover one of Diffie’s hits and be a part of such a memorable project.

HIXTAPE VOL. 3: DIFFTAPE. Track List:

Josh Ross: ‘Complicated’ – EP Review

Josh Ross releases his new EP, Complicated EP, out now, March 29th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new project here.

For Canada native, Josh Ross, today marks the release of his U.S. debut EP, Complicated. Featuring eight new tracks, seven of which he co-wrote, the UMG Nashville/Universal Music Canada artists takes listeners on a journey through his head and his heart, both lyrically and musically.

“For me, things can kind of go all different directions,” Ross says. “Whether it’s healthy or not, I’m a complicated person, and the music is all different, too. It’s not straight traditional, or even rock or pop – it’s complicated, and I’m not afraid to let it stand out. … But that’s just me.”

Throughout the EP, Ross experiments with different sounds, occasionally veering into rock or pop but always staying country. The collection opens with the building, earwormy and effusive “Single Again,” which finds Ross dropping hints that he’s the one that a girl wants to settle down with once she dumps her current beau. It’s an immediate piece of ear candy that invites listeners to have another and keep listening.

“When you’re single again // and you’re Thinking of me // Ya know I got that same ole Tennessee // 615 that you used to hit up // Half past where you at pick me up // When you’re all over him // I hope you’re all over me // I got a king size bed // Just missing a Queen // Make me your first call // after your last call with him // And you won’t ever be single again”

The EP’s title track finds Ross thinking outside the box melodically with a sound he describes as “The Weeknd meets country pop.” On the synth-laced, 80’s inspired track that finds Ross experimenting with something outside of his typical twang, he cleverly juxtaposes darker lyrics over upbeat music, creating the ultimate contradiction as he wonders how a relationship went awry. “Why’d we have to go and complicate it?” He asks. “Weren’t we supposed to be the ones who made it?”

Heartbreak is definitely at the forefront of Complicated, weaving its way through songs like “Tell Me A Lie,” “Burn Back,” and “Truck Girl.” Each allows the singer to sample different sounds and themes, with “Lie” setting a moody and dark tone as he pleads with someone to lie to him about the fate of an ill-fated relationship. LIkewise, “Truck Girl” finds him dealing with an ex who’s moving on, while the R&B-tinted “Burn Back” finds him wondering how to get the heat back in a relationship that’s lost its spark.

“She Don’t Smoke” deals with a toxic woman who’s full of lies that he can’t quite quit, while “Trouble,” already a hit in Canada, finds him in a dark place, missing someone. “Trouble” truly allows him to flex his vocals, growly rasp on full display as he throws back a few drinks. Here, his voice sounds almost whiskey-drenched as he proclaims “Baby I’m in trouble” over darker instrumentation.

“For me, I would not have picked any other song to be the first identifying song for me,” Ross says of “Trouble.” “It’s the most honest song I had released up until now, and watching what it does for other people? Some of the stories I hear are heartbreaking, but it’s really nice to feel like your music helps heal.”

The EP ends with “Matching Tattoos,” a nostalgic piano ballad that looks wistfully at what’s left of young love. “I wonder where you are now // Sometimes I still think of how // We said something ‘bout forever,” He croons. “But what’s that mean at 22? // ‘Cause all that lasted are some matching tattoos”

“I always like to say the songs are where I’m at in my life, and I think this project is like that,” Ross says. “I want to keep people on their toes.” On Complicated, he does just that.

Complicated EP Tracklist:

  1. Single Again (Josh Ross, Joe Fox, Brad Rempel)

Dylan Scott: ‘Livin’ My Best Life (Still)’ – Deluxe Album Review

Dylan Scott’s brand new deluxe album, Livin’ My Best Life (Still)is out now, March 29th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new songs here.

Back in 2022, Dylan Scott released his first project in three years, an album called Livin’ My Best Life. The record featured sixteen incredible songs including fan-favorites, “New Truck” and “Good Times Go By Too Fast.” Today, Scott is celebrating the album’s incredible life with the deluxe version called Livin’ My Best Life (Still), featuring 26 songs in total.

The record as a whole in an incredible compilation of party songs, true-blue country songs, honest tracks, and overall songs that depict where Scott is in his life and in his career. Fan favorite new songs like, “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us,” “I’ll Be A Bartender,” and “Boys Back Home” all depict different sides of the Louisiana-born star. Similar to “Boys Back Home,” featuring Dylan Marlowe, “Me and My Kind” has Scott firmly planted in his country-roots. While naysayers may be sick of this narrative, the singer does it in a way that is both refreshing and authentic to who he is as an artist, something we appreciate.

On songs like “What He’ll Never Have,” “What I’d Want Mine To Say,” and “Getting Out Alive,” Scott leans into his more vulnerable song. “What He’ll Never Have’ depicts a love story that might not work out, while the other two tracks showcase a more introspective side to the singer. Two of our favorites off the project, both “What I’d Want Mine To Say” and “Getting Out Alive” remind us how short life truly is and to live life to the fullest. Another standout track, “Heartbeat of America” depicts all of the cliches in a country love song in a way that works. Scott reminds listeners, yet again, that the simple things are often the most important.

Other notable new additions come at the end of the project. Scott collaborated with fast rising, EDM-country artists VAVO on a new version of both “Good Times Goo By Too Fast” and “This Town’s Been Too Good to Us.” Both renditions bring a fun and dance-ready vibe to the already incredible tracks.

Overall, Livin’ My Best Life (Still) is an elevated version of exactly what we have come to expect (and want) from Dylan Scott. The singer continues to be unapologetically himself and makes music that his fanbase can relate to, find themselves in, and enjoy all at the safe time.

Livin’ My Best Life (Still) Track List:

  1. This Town’s Been Too Good to Us
  2. What He’ll Never Have

Graham Barham + Lauren Watkins Join Forces on Brand New Song

Graham Barham and Lauren Watkins collaborate on their brand new song, “Straight To My Heart,” out now, March 29th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new track below.

We have said it time and time again, there is nothing like a solid collaboration in country music. Today, singer-songwriters, Graham Barham and Lauren Watkins deliver a gift to our ears with their new collaboration song. “Straight To My Heart” is officially out today.

“Looks bad, I Know // I’m drunk //S o won’t you just go easy on me // You yelled, I used // The end of us // Hit me like a truck at full speed // What else was I gonna do // If I gotta get over you // ten months went straight out the door // A good thing went straight to hell // Pedal went straight to the floor // No coming back I can tell // I shoulda went straight to bed // But I went straight to the bar // Whiskey went straight to my head // Goodbye went straight to my heart”

Written by the artists with Will Bundy and Lydia Vaughan, “Straight To My Heart” will literally pierce your heart after just one listen. The song is a beautiful back and forth between Barham and Watkins. It depicts heartbreak in its truest form and chronicles the stages of grief at the end of a relationship. Both Barham and Watkins give a lot of credit to their fellow songwriters on creating the song.

“The title was Lydia Vaughan’s idea, and I’ve been wanting to write a song with Lauren for a long time. It worked out well that Will Bundy, my best friend and producer, is her fiancé and they were counseling me through a relationship at the time. Lauren was such an important part of writing this song, and of course she and Will knew what was happening in my life. She took the reins, and we wrote the song and cut it all within 36 hours,” shared Barham.

Both Barham and Watkins are exciting rising artists in country music right now. “Straight To My Heart” is an incredible song to add to each of their prospective, growing music catalogs.

Tucker Wetmore shares brand new song, “Wind Up Missin’ You,” out now, March 29th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new song below.

Last month we introduced you to singer-songwriter Tucker Wetmore, an artist that we are really excited about. Wetmore’s debut single, “Wine Into Whiskey” surpassed expectations and amassed over 28 million global streams. Today, the singer is sharing another new song with fans who are begging for more music from the newcomer. “Wind Up Missin’ You” is officially out now.

According to the songstress, she never intended to make a country album.“This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.” she shared via her social media, also adding, “This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.”

Who is Brooke Eden? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Brooke Eden? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-brooke-eden

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Brooke Eden Hoover
Birthdate – 13/20/1988
Hometown – West Palm Beach, Florida
Current City – Nashville, Tennessee
Musical Influences – Patsy Cline, The Chicks, LeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood, Shania Twain
Current Single – “Outlaw Love (Dave Audé Remix)”  // as of date of article: XX

The Beginning:

Today’s spotlight shines on an artist that is a true inspiration to many people. After years in the industry, Brooke Eden has finally emerged as the truest version of herself, and that is evident in her music. We chatted with the songstress all about her journey, music, and everything in between.

“I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida,” began the singer-songwriter. “My dad was a drummer in a country band, still is, and so he played every weekend. When I was five years old, I started singing. I started hearing Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill on the radio and I started singing all of the songs, and my dad was like “oh wow, she can stay on key” […] About a year into singing, my dad was like “do you want to go play with my band not he weekend,” and I said yeah, and I thought it would be so much fun.”

While her friends were all at sleepovers, Eden was performing at honky-tonks with her dad and his band. “I feel like my hometown kinda took me under its wing. You don’t think of West Palm Beach, Florida as being a big country music town, but oh my god, it is. […] It took me under its wing as the town’s country music artist at twelve years old. […] At twelve, they asked me to open for Alan Jackson when he was coming through to play at the theatre, and then it was Brooks & Dunn, and it just kind of went from there.”

Throughout her upbringing, Eden always felt called to country music. “As a kid, I didn’t even realize there was another genre of music,” she shared. “I always wanted to move to Nashville, but as a family, we did not have the means to do that.”

The Turning Point:

Despite knowing that she belonged in Nashville, Eden’s dad asked her head to college first. The singer obliged “So I went to the University of Florida, graduated with a business degree, and actually came back to my hometown, and  started playing four or five nights a week to save up money to move to Nashville.”

About ten months after graduating college, Eden was ready to make the move to Music City. “I just jumped in. I got to Nashville, and the very first night we were there, we had driven 12 hours from West Palm Beach to Nashville, we had a blow-up mattress on the floor, and my dad was like “let’s go down to honky-tonks.” Ended up getting on stage at Tootsie’s and they were like, “do you want a job here?”

She went to auditions that Saturday and the band leader had some wise words for her. He said, “honey this is honky-tonk school, and I have a feeling, you’ve already been through honky-tonk school, what else do you want to do in Nashville,” and I was like “I really want to learn how to write a song, like a real country song.” And he was like “What are you doing on Tuesday?.” Eden went on to write her first song with him, he helped connect her to others in the industry, and eventually she landed her first record deal and publishing deal a year and a half after moving.

As soon as she was signed, Eden started to feel the pressure of not being allowed to be her full self. “Actually my very first week of radio tour is when I meant my now wife, but at the time, I was told we had to keep our relationship a secret,” she shared, adding, “I had my record deal, and I was touring as kind of a shell of myself. I knew what I was suppose to say, I knew what I was supposed to look like, sound like, and I knew what they wanted me to turn in song-wise. […] It was a very controlling situation as far as a record label went, and then, once the label found out that I was in a relationship with a woman, they pretty much stopped putting music out on me.”

Eventually in 2020, Eden had an epiphany that she was done hiding who she was from the world. As fate would have it, her record label was bought at my Big Machine Label Group, and she finally had a supportive team around her. “In 2021, I came out with my full story, and came out with three songs, and two of them was about my love story, and we had music video that my wife was in with me, and it finally felt like I was able to be the artist that I was always  supposed to be,” she shared, adding, “I wanted to release my new music as me, knowing that I’m being fully me. They completed supported me.”

Today:

Flash forward to today, Eden is at her absolute best professionally. Back in June of 2023, she released an EP titled, Outlaw Love which featured some of her most honest and vulnerable songs to date. The EP chronicled her love-story, and showcased that it was more than okay to be your true self in country music.

“Outlaw Love, the EP was definitely the most personal thing I’ve ever put out. It was definitely an unfolding of chapters It started off with “Whispering,” where we were kind of the topic of conversation at a lot of parties. […] That song was kind of about taking your power back. […] Then it goes into “Chills,” which is this really romantic part of our relationship, where we are just allowed to be in our own space and really fall in love with each other, and then it goes to “Outlaw Love” which is a very empowering, kind of self-realization and self-acceptance of this is who we are, this is who I am, and I’m not afraid to say it or talk about it, and then it ends with “All My LIfe,” which was our first dance song at our wedding,” shared the songstress.

Eden also shared “There’s so much you can say in music that you couldn’t speak. […] Sometimes it has to come in music for people to accept it in a way. It’s been really cool to see how music has changed people’s hearts.” Most recently, the singer had empowered people even more with the remix of song, “Outlaw Love.”

“It is kind of a serious subject, but it’s also this rebel yell. […] I”m going to be in my full authenticity, and to me that is a celebration, and it should be celebrated, and I think the remix brings that […] It’s a celebratory song about being yourself and being about to dance to that, so I was so excited about the remix.”
