Despite there being plenty of ways to write an actor off of a TV show, death is by far the most common. And I’m convinced it’s the reason we all have trust issues. Why we choose to subject ourselves to this torture is a mystery, but no matter how many times we claim to be done falling in love with a character, we all know it will happen time and time again.
Here are just some examples of TV deaths that we will never quite get over.
*Warning: contains spoilers*
Keith Scott (One Tree Hill). I can tell you exactly where I was sitting when I watched Dan murder his brother in cold blood in the hallway of Tree Hill High. I low-key lost faith in humanity and cried actual tears.
Finn Hudson (Glee) The only thing more depressing than a high school choir losing a participant to death is the fact that the actor Corey Monteith actually died of a drug overdose. So many feels!!
Leslie Shay (Chicago Fire) We all knew that watching gorgeous men and women run into burning buildings every week was dangerous but really?! Gabby’s best friend?!
Melissa Cooper (The OC) Is there anything more gut-wrenching than seeing Ryan carry her out of the burning car? Ugh.
Rayna James (Nashville) The queen of country’s sudden death after surviving multiple life-threatening situations felt like someone stole our firstborn child. And the scene of her family crowded by her bedside singing in perfect harmony was just plain cruel.
Jon Snow (Game of Thrones) Watching fellow members of the Night’s Watch stab him after tricking him into coming outside was the ultimate betrayal. Can we trust no one in this life?
Zoe Barnes (House of Cards) As if death by train isn’t bad enough, she had to be pushed in front of it. We still can’t decide if it was a brilliant or awful way to start a new season.
William Hill (This Is Us) The moment we realized the father-son road trip was a final goodbye our hearts broke. Cancer blows, even on screen.
Fred Andrews (Riverdale) The only thing worse than a TV death is when it’s necessary because the actor dies and can’t finish filming. No more so did this hit home then when Luke Perry tragically passed away. When the other actors cried at Fred’s funeral, you knew the tears were real and not just for the fictional character.
EVERYONE (Grey’s Anatomy) It’s no secret that killing off fan favorites is Shonda Rhime’s number one hobby, but getting rid of half the cast (literally) is just plain wrong. And don’t even get us started on Derek…

If you didn’t love Brantley Gilbert before, you’ll fall head over heels for him now. Gilbert just announced his 2020 Fire’t Up Tour, and this is not your regular run of the mill tour. Not only does he have back-to-back Platinum albums and a fanbase across the nation, but he also has a heart for leading and service.
Partnering with local farmer heroes to celebrate and boost local communities of the tour, Gilbert has set a standard for the way the music industry manages itself. No more selfless indulging but instead taking care of the places the artists visit, creating connections and giving back to thousands of people across the nation. He has partnered with Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC), an organization helping veterans pursue careers in farming, to purchase products for catering all along the tour. These veterans and farmers are the backbone of the United States and supporting and thanking them is Gilbert’s goal for this endeavor.
“A first for a Country music tour, Gilbert’s tour catering partner, Taste Event, will work with local farmers in 25 cities-and-counting on his 2020 tour to create a farm-to-catering approach for the tour’s footprint. Farmers, and their families, furnishing the food are invited to share their stories, dine with the tour, meet Gilbert, and stay for the show.” – BMLG Records
If that doesn’t warm your heart, another partner for the tour, Musically Fed, will aim to distribute excess food each night to organizations providing meals to the homeless, hungry, and food insecure.
We live in an interconnected world, with millions of struggling people, but the heart and strength of the country music industry has shown that we are a people that help each other in times of need, and can overcome any obstacle while enjoying the music we love. Brantley Gilbert is making an impact with his choices for the tour, an action that does not go unnoticed. Catch him on any of the cities on tour and celebrate the heart and love of this country.

Chase Rice kicked off the new year with a big surprise for his fans by dropping his much-anticipated album titled, The Album Part I at last Friday. If you follow Rice on social media, he’s been teasing fans with new songs for months since topping the charts for back-to-back weeks with “Eyes on You” but never said exactly when the full package would come out. Even though this isn’t his first album, the singer-songwriter looks at this one as the beginning of his career.
“I chose to call this The Album because it’s the first thing I would encourage someone to listen to if they want to know who I am as an artist,” explains Rice in a press release. “My career has been such a rollercoaster journey, but it’s all led to this moment and these songs. So much of what I’ve learned, so much of what I’ve fought through – it’s all reflected in this music.”
When you listen to these seven songs, you truly see how much he has grown as a songwriter and an artist. Instead of singing about girls in pickup trucks, Rice’s sound has matured to something deeper and more meaningful. These seven songs are personal and paint a picture of the good times and the bad times. While his music has evolved, you still get the same gravelly-voiced vocals his fans fell in love with years ago.
The one song you’ve probably heard on your radio already is “Lonely If You Are,” the follow up to his No.1 song, “Eyes on You.” The sleek rhymes over heartland six strings and keys make this song not only catchy and relatable but extremely easy to put on repeat. Rice has been playing it in his live shows for months already and performed it last night on a very dramatic episode of The Bachelor.
“I wrote it with Lindsay Rimes and Hunter Phelps, and when you get to that bridge it’s insane live already – and I don’t think it’s even top 30 yet. When you get to that, ‘let me love the lonely right out of you,’ that’s when you know we’ve got something pretty special here,” Rice says.
“American Nights” is one of the outliers of the album, but not in a bad way. It’s one of the only songs that isn’t about a romantic love. Rice describes the song as being about diversity. “It’s about all these different people going through different things, but at the end of the day, that’s what makes us all Americans and that what makes us all so unique. So ‘American Nights,’ to me, is one of the most special songs on this whole album,” Rice explains.
Probably one of the most personal songs on this new album, “Everywhere,” Rice sings about seeing his ex-girlfriend in everything he does and everywhere he goes. He sings: “You’re in every side street, every sidewalk // Every corner booth, every corner bar // In the dark, darlin’, you’re everywhere // Woah, oh, oh, you’re everywhere”
One of the more relatable songs on the album, Rice wrote it after breaking up with a girlfriend. “It’s about a girl that I dated the last couple years. We had an amazing relationship, had a tough breakup and that’s the way it goes sometimes, but when that happens, usually you’re going to start seeing that person everywhere you go,” Rice says.
In “Best Night Ever” Rice sings about exactly what the title of the song is, the best night ever. You get a look into his word with the lyrics and how they paint a vivid image of a memorable night with his girlfriend. “I live on a farm in Tennessee and I’ve had some nights out on that farm. I’ve had some amazing nights – the sun’s going down – but every now and then, there’s a special night because there’s somebody there to make it special and that’s the case for this song, ‘Best Night Ever.’ I’ve got this old pole barn over there at the farm that, you know, the song kind of speaks for itself,” Rice says of the track.
The singer first teased this song back in November on his Instagram when he played an acoustic version of it. Watch below.
Rice describes “Messy” as one of the most emotional songs he’s put out since “Jack Daniels and Jesus.” He sings about loving every side of someone. In a relationship, even when you see each other’s messy sides, you still love each other through them. The lyrics are deep, honest and raw.
“We’ve all got messy and we’ve all got problems we deal with, but when you have someone to deal with it and help you deal with it through those problems, that’s beautiful,” Rice describes.
In one of the catchiest songs on the album, “In the Car,” Rice takes his fans back to his high school days of sneaking out with his girlfriend. It wasn’t just the thrill of not getting caught and being with your high school love though.
“In the car that night // Saturday in July // We had the radio down and you were teein’ ’em up // In the car that night // Two beautiful eyes // You weren’t even tryin’ // I was fallin’ in love // And the headlights // Met the sunrise // It was so right, oh // In the car that night // We were on fire // Couldn’t get higher // I was yours, you were mine // In the car that night”
Everyone has those songs that take them back to a high school memory and Rice does it with this song. The fun, upbeat sound with lyrics that take you back in time is the perfect mix to blast this song with your windows down.
In the final track, Rice hits it out of the park with “Forever To Go.” Expect to hear this one at weddings for years to come. The lyrics walk you through special memories of falling more and more in love yet knowing you still have a lifetime ahead of you.
“Another year down // And, baby, somehow // Our song never gets old // The honeymoon phase // And butterflies fade // But I’ll never let you go // We were just kids // Stealin’ a kiss // And it feels like forever ago // But I love you more than yesterday // We still got forever to go”
Rice predicts this song could be even bigger than “Eyes on You,” which was the No. 5 most-played country song of 2019. Expect to hear more new songs on The Album Part II later this year.

“I love what music can do for people because it was always there for me.”
Bree Taylor, our Swag Spotlight artist this week, is a rising singer-songwriter, who plays by her own rules. Throughout our conversation with Taylor, we learned how honest, authentic, and passionate she is about mental health awareness, her refreshing music, and of course her diehard fanbase.
Hailing from Toronto Canada, the songstress always felt a pull towards music. “I’ve been involved in music since I was a little girl,” she tells us, “I always just kind of had this passion for music.” Growing up writing, she had a natural talent for song-writing and story-telling. “I’ve always been involved in writing my own lyrics and poems, so as I got older it just turned into something that I really wanted as a career.” Unfortunately because of the bullying that she endured throughout her schooling, Taylor lacked the confidence to pursue her dream.
About six years ago, Taylor found her courage and decided to quiet the naysayers in favor of creating music that aimed to bring connection and vulnerability to music listeners. She went on to create her first pop album with a talented producer in L.A., but she quickly realized that country music was calling her.
“I always kinda felt a kinship to the country scene, since I was really young, because I always really felt comfortable in more of the story-telling, songwriting side of things,” she shares, “I just felt that country really translated well for me.” This revelation began Taylor’s transition to a more pop-country sound.
Since her transition to country music, Taylor has noticed the lack of representation of females in the genre and has worked relentlessly to create music that showcases the good, the bad, and the ugly of being a woman in today’s day and age. For the singer, being honest with her fans about her struggles with depression and anxiety and bringing awareness to mental health issues is vital to her artistry.
“When I was growing up, I definitely think [mental health] wasn’t talked about […] so I find I try to live by example through myself,” she shares, adding that it has been difficult to find artists that live their truth and express that in their music. Despite that sentiment, Taylor credits artists like Taylor Swift, Madison Marlow, (Maddie & Tae) and Selena Gomez, as well as, actress, Jennifer Lawerence, as people she relates to and looks up to because of the authenticity they bring to their art and the honesty they share with fans.
Taylor continues to create music that showcases different sides of her personality. Most recently, she released “Drive.” To counteract some of her more emotional and sad tracks, the singer wanted to give fans a taste of her fun and silly side. “I do have a more lighthearted side to me where I’m having fun with my girlfriends, and relaxing, and enjoying life, and being silly,” she tells us, “So I wanted to write a song that would show people that side of myself.” “Drive” is fun, sassy, and catchy, but still maintains that integrity that is so important to Taylor and her fanbase.
Of course, she has emotional and deeply personal songs slated to be released this year as well. In just a few days, on January 31st, her new single “Cry” will be available. Taylor gave us the inside scoop about the beautiful, upcoming track that was pitched to her by two talented songwriters. “When I heard it, it was pitched to me as a song that was written about a woman singing to a man,” she shares. “But the way I connected to it was exactly in the way that ‘it’s okay to not be okay,” adding, “I even really took it in a personal way that you could be singing it to yourself.”
The soon to be released song serves as a reminder to people who are struggling with their own demons that we do not always have to be strong. “I really want people to identify with it in their own way,” Taylor explains. “I just think it is such a powerful song lyrically with the message behind it, and I really wanted that to speak for itself.”
Fans can anticipate even more new music this year by the rising artist. She has an EP in the works slated for a spring release, as well as, plans for some live shows in 2020. As Taylor says, “It’s just a matter of making it all happen.”
“Drive” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

It’s tough to find a season of the “Bachelor” or “Bachelorette” that doesn’t involve a date featuring an intimate concert by an up and coming country artist. Past performers include Chris Lane, Brett Young, Tenille Arts, LANCO, Granger Smith and Matt Stell, and as of last night’s episode that aired on ABC, Chase Rice.
But Bachelor Peter Weber’s journey to find love took a turn when he and one-on-one date recipient Victoria Fuller arrived on the scene for a serenade of Rice’s “Eyes On You”…it turns out Victoria and the country star knew each other. In fact, they dated. For a terribly awkward few minutes, we watched Pilot Pete dance with his date to Rice’s hit song, totally oblivious to what the singer, Victoria, and by that point, all the viewers knew about their past relationship.
Rice is no stranger to reality TV (he previously appeared on “Survivor: Nicaragua” in 2010) but from the look on his face when Peter and Victoria walked into view it seemed like he had absolutely no idea he would be performing for his ex and her new boyfriend. But you know what they say, God works hard but the Bachelor producers work harder.
Despite the drama (Victoria eventually told the truth in the evening portion of the date, and Peter took it like a champ), Rice’s performance was a true highlight of an emotionally charged episode. The small crowd that joined Peter and Victoria at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Cleveland for the private concert was enthusiastic and singing along as he performed, which isn’t always the case when artists appear on the show.
Rice just dropped The Album Part 1, as a surprise to his fans. You can take a listen below.

This past Friday night, New York’s Country 94.7 celebrated their first Up Close & Country of the decade with a special Radio.com event at Chelsea Music Hall. Winning your way in was the only way to catch this special performance from superstars Carly Pearce, Michael Ray, and Jake Owen.
Pearce is gearing up to release her sophomore, self-titled album next month but took the time to perform some fan favorites from her debut album, including “Doin It Right”, and “Every Little Thing”. She also performed two previously released songs including “Heart’s Going Out Of Its Mind” and her current single, a duet with Lee Brice, “Hope Your Happy Now”. The former, Pearce explained that she wrote just a few days after her first date with Michael Ray and she told her cowriters that she was “totally going to marry him”. The latter is currently climbing up the country radio charts and fans were singing along with the songstress.
It was such a treat for fans to get to see the newlyweds on the same bill. Michael Ray took the stage next, so grateful for the chance to perform during this special night thanks to the radio station and thanked each member of their team. Ray who has a ton of hits in his career so far sang “Kiss You In The Morning”, and his number one song, “One That Got Away”. He also welcomed his beautiful wife back to the stage for a stirring duet of Alison Krauss’ “When You Say Nothing At All”. Watching their chemistry on stage was spectacular. His current single, “Her World Or Mine” had the audience singing along as he emoted true heartbreak.
Finally, Jake Owen took the stage to perform some of his biggest songs, including the past decade’s most-played country song “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”. Owen took time out during his set to talk to the small group of fans, ask them what they wanted to hear and even sang “Happy Birthday” to one lucky audience member. He threw it back to one of his earlier albums with “Alone With You”, and “The One That Got Away”. He also performed a few songs from his most recent album, “Down To The Honky Tonk”, “Drink All Day”, and his current single “Home Made” which he explained was written about his grandparents who are 97 and 95 years old and have been married for 72 years.
Owen even performed the impromptu song he wrote after watching The Bachelor “Alabama Hannah” which went viral on social media after he posted it. His energy, honesty when explaining each song and his banter with the audience made for a great night and the perfect way to kick off the radio station’s events for 2020.

It’s been almost a decade since Lauren Alaina auditioned and made it to the finale of the tenth season of American Idol. Her bubbly personality, powerhouse voice, and true southern charm won over the nation and since then she has released two albums, written countless songs and connected with her growing fan base in an authentic way.
For the first time, Alaina has set out on a headlining tour and has sold out the first seven shows, including a show last night at Bowery Ballroom in New York City with direct support, Filmore.
Filmore, who hails from Missouri, brought his unique brand of country music to an already packed room playing some of the most recent songs he has released including “London”, “State I’m In”, and “Heart’s Having A Hard Time”. He exuded energy, and an undeniable swagger as he danced around the stage. Several times throughout the night, the singer-songwriter paused to explain how grateful he was to be back in New York, having opened for Dan + Shay and Carrie Underwood back in 2018.
One of the most energetic parts of the night was when he covered The Killers’ smash, “Mr. Brightside” asking the entire audience to jump along with him. We always see an incredible response when artists come up to the Big Apple and choose a cover song outside of the country genre and tonight was no different. He thoughtfully explained the songwriting and stories behind each song throughout his set, definitely garnering a ton of new fans that may not have seen his live show before. He closed the set with “Slower”, his breakout hit from 2018.
The ‘That Girl Was Me Tour’ truly took the fans on a journey of Lauren Alaina’s entire career and with the help of a giant screen that played behind her, the packed house at Bowery Ballroom were treated to home movies, music videos and beautiful visuals to accompany her throughout the night. Alaina took it back to her debut album, and her time on American Idol to start off the set with “Barefoot and Buckwild”, “Georgia Peaches”, and “Like My Mother Does”. Video clips with voiceovers helped flow each segment of the night, Alaina being encouraging about hard times and helping to show her growth as a human and a performer in Nashville.
She performed her current single, “Getting Good” which is another honest song about trying to slow time down and stay in the present without looking ahead to the next achievement as well as a brand new song that will be released on her next EP on March 6th, “Somebody Else’s Problem”. The most touching, and inspiring moment of the night came when Alaina paused her show to pay tribute to her late stepdad, Sam, telling the story of how he saw heaven moments before he passed away. Struggling to get through the song “The Other Side” without the emotion completely taking over, the songwriter performed with an indisputable grace.
She welcomed Filmore back to the stage to help her perform Hardy’s current single, one of NYCountry Swag’s favorite songs, “One Beer” which she is featured on along with Devin Dawson. Before performing “My Kinda People”, she took time to explain that although her dreams from when she was a young girl revolved around singing and traveling the world, that as she has garnered success over the past decade, she wanted to make sure to find a way to give back, and so she has started the ‘My Kinda People charity’. To find out more, head to laurenalainaofficial.com.
After a brief pause, she returned to the stage to sing an encore of “Three” and her very first number one single “Road Less Traveled”. The entire sold-out crowd lifted their flashlights in the air as they waved their hands and sang along, it became utterly apparent that every misstep, every tragedy, and every high point in her life has brought her to the beauty of hearing your powerful words sung back to you.
If the ‘That Girl Was Me Tour’ is coming to a city near you, run, don’t walk. You will feel every emotion, you will feel community alongside strangers and the power of music will surround you throughout the night.

Every album Kelsea Ballerini has released so far has had a solo-write. The First Time had “First Time”, Unapologetically had “High School”, and kelsea, Ballerini’s third album due March 20th now has “la”. The latter was released today as an instant-grat track to celebrate the news of her upcoming record.
“I’ve got a love and hate relationship with LA”, she sings on the first line that doubles as the hook. It instantly grabs your attention, because it’s clear that she’s about to tell a story.
And she does. It’s the story of a girl who loves the city lights but misses home/Nashville. In California, she plays dress-up, debates calling famous friends, and questions if she’ll be invited to the party. It’s this tug of war feeling like she’s not cool enough to be in her own shoes and feeling like LA is her place. Each time she dips her toe into the ocean or takes a step onto a red carpet, however, she finds herself looking at real estate and falling in love with the red sunsets.
The storyline is so compelling because of its overall relatability. It’s about anxiety and navigation, and how to find your place in a world that feels so foreign. The bridge of the song is where it all comes together brilliantly. “Sometimes it feels like it’s all real but nothing here is as it seems,” she sings softly. “I ask myself, does it feed my soul or my anxiety / Carpet’s red, ego’s fed, but it’s myself that I have to face / I’ve got a love and hate relationship with LA”.
Vocally, Ballerini’s performance is beautiful. She sings delicately and honestly as if reading an entry from her diary. Technically she is. “It’s the most vulnerable thing I’ve publically shared,” she said on Instagram. “It came out as a stream of consciousness that fell into the form of a poem.”
Ballerini produced the song with Jimmy Robbins, who co-wrote and co-produced her last two singles. Together, they have created a sound that is guitar-heavy and stacks of vocals and harmonies. It’s memorable and distinctive, and perfectly reflects the vibe of the song.
“la” is the 13th and final track off kelsea, and it makes sense that it is. It tells Ballerini’s whole story, which is that she’s as lost as she is found. Each song that’s been released from this project so far has said the same thing: that she’s human. It’s a new year, a new decade, and a new Kelsea.
Her new album kelsea is out March 20th, and you can pre-order it here.
“la” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.
