Chris Stapleton’s New Song, “Cold” Showcases His Vulnerable Side

Chris Stapleton’s new song, “Cold” is available now, September 25th, on all streaming platforms. Written by Stapleton, Dave Cobb, Derek Mixon, and J.T. Cure, take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Chris Stapleton has an iconic unique voice and sound, and his latest release, “Cold” surely doesn’t disappoint with his liquid lyrics that convey true storytelling. What starts to sound like a heartfelt piano ballad or a piano concerto at the beginning quickly transitions into a drum kick and a conjuring of strong emotion.  His voice wrings with hurt, asking “Why you got to be so cold? Why you got to go and cut me like a knife / And put our love on ice.” Stapleton is never one to back down from emotion, and this is right on par.

Chris Stapleton New Song Cold

Chris Stapleton’s New Song “Cold” is available now

His grit and rawness parallel the vulnerability of his words so truly encompass, and create relatable pictures of the struggles of life. The leisurely pace of the guitar and steady drum contrast vividly with the strings that liken it to the backdrop of a tense movie scene. Only then, does the electric guitar create yet another mood, jazzing up the track and almost dates it to a prior time when that guitar solo was ever so popular.

Chris Stapleton’s new song, “Cold” is a must-listen for that late-night beer, after just a little too much hurt from a relationship. It all comes from an authentic place and lets us know that we’re not alone.

Fans can join our Weekly Round-Up e-newsletter here, for the latest in country music and more news about future Chris Stapleton releases.

Lauren Akins’ Book ‘Live in Love’, A New York Times Best Seller – Full Review

Lauren Akins, the wife of ACM Entertainer of the Year Thomas Rhett, is a New York Time’s best-selling author with her book Live in Love: Growing Together Through Life’s Changes and there’s a reason why.

Live in Love Lauren Akins

Written with a bestselling collaborator, Mark Dagostino, Live in Love is for moms, wives, and young women needing an uplifting message. Whether you are trying to figure out your life’s purpose, going through marriage struggles, or a new mom, this memoir will be that reminder that you are not alone.

While we may have not known much about Akins until her husband’s award-winning song “Die a Happy Man”, once you start reading, you’ll feel like you grew up in the Gregory household. The Tennessee native gives us a glimpse of what it was like to live in the tight-knit neighborhood of Madison which included plenty of kickball games, bike riding, and faith.

As the memoir goes on, the mother of three doesn’t hold anything back including the story of her and Rhett’s relationship. She takes us through each step from meeting in first grade to their wedding night. From the ups and downs, how these two got together could have been a movie script.

While the two may have gotten together in a fairytale way, the most important message that Akins wants us to know is that she and Thomas are not the “#couplegoals” everyone sees them as. They have had their fair share of struggles.   Akins grappled with Rhett’s road to fame. She felt like he was always putting his career first and her dreams were on hold. And she wants you to know it’s ok to see marriage counseling to help and strengthen your relationship.

Hearing how Akins went on a mission trip to Haiti and found her passion for humanitarian work will give you the determination to follow your dreams. She also gets deep about meeting her beautiful daughter, Willa Gray in Uganda and how tough the adoption process was, but once again never gave up and fought for what she wanted.

Lauren Akins’ book, Live in Love is filled with laughter, heartbreak, and honesty. It’s a must-read and will give you the confidence you need to better yourself, your career, your marriage, or whatever you are searching for.

To keep up with Lauren Akins follow her on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

The Best Deep Cuts from Morgan Wallen

We have said it before, but we will say it again, Morgan Wallen is the next superstar in the making in country music. He has honed his talent over the last couple of years and grown an absolute diehard fanbase. As we anticipate his sophomore record, we thought it would be fun to reflect on some of our favorite deep cuts from the singer-songwriter. Check out the list below.

“Talkin’ Tennessee”

“You say those street lights only ever let you see the skyline / It’s been a long time / Since the Milky Way, Jupiter and Venus took your breath away / Yeah like you’re taking mine”

This song will make you swoon. The love song is magical and mesmerizing, and it feels exactly like a Morgan Wallen song should feel. It is one of our favorites off his debut record If I Know Me.

“If I Know Me”

“If I know me, I’ll have you hopping up in my passenger seat / Then I take you home you ain’t gonna wanna leave”

The title track is one of the best on the whole record, which happens to be full of incredible songs. “If I Know Me” is one of those songs that should have been a single.

“Cover Me Up” (cover)

“So cover me up and know you’re enough / To use me for good”

A few months ago, Wallen covered Jason Isbell’s song “Cover Me Up,” and fans went crazy. His cover is beautiful and authentic. Of course, the music video, which is actually a mini-movie in a way, is also incredible.

“Had Me by Halftime”

“Watchin’ you girl like it’s gonna be a good fall / You would’ve though that post-game kiss would’ve made me wanna make you mine / But you had me by halftime”

It is football season, and you should have this song on your playlist! The picturesque love song is the perfect anthemic song for a fall romance.

“Redneck Love Song”

“I’m a man of few words but baby here it goes / My neck is red, my collar’s blue / And I love you”

The title says it all. Although a love song, the lyrics are pure genius. “Redneck Love Song” can only be a country song, and we love that about this track.

“American Nights”

“American nights, wanted alive / Cuttin’ down Main street in the dark / Muscle shoals, muscle cars / Earnin’ our stripes underneath these stars”

This might be one of our most surprising picks. This song is off one of Wallen’s projects prior to his record deal. The song, although not as fine-tuned, is a perfect example of what the singer is great at. It’s also catchy as can be.

How does our list match up to yours? Let us know and be sure to follow our ‘Deep Cuts’ playlist on Spotify.

Fans can join our Weekly Round-Up e-newsletter here, for the latest in country music and more news about upcoming Morgan Wallen released in the coming weeks.

Who Is Cory Marks? – The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Cory Marks

Interestingly enough a lot of great country artists on the scene right now hail from Canada! Our Swag Spotlight artist this week, Cory Marks grew up in North Bay, Canada, outside Ontario. Although his musical influences and interests have evolved over the years, Marks has created an image and a fanbase that is unique to him and his genuine talent.

Marks grew up in a big hockey town and admits that hockey was one of his first loves; however, music was always a staple in his life. “Being from Canada obviously, I grew up on a great variety of music,” he shares with us, “My dad loved bands like Rush, Deep Purple, and Ozzy, and then he also had a deep passion for my hero, Merle Haggard.” The singer’s musical taste ran the gamut of genres from hard-rock to traditional country music. It makes sense why the singer gravitated to the drums at just ten years old, and later, dabbled with the guitar.

Throughout high-school, Marks sang back-up behind his drum kit in various bands with his friends, but it was not until his twenties that he actually considered being a frontman, after a push by his hockey teammates. “We would go out to his bar every Tuesday,” he began, “And really that’s how it all got started for me. I was starting to write more and do cover stuff on Youtube and Facebook [too].”

Honing his talent, playing at various bars in town, Marks realized that he had a passion for playing country-rock music and had a lot of support from his teammates, family, and friends. “I was playing every bar in town and even elsewhere, and that’s when I was picked up by my manager,” he recalls, “In 2017, I signed my [current] record deal as the flagship country artist. The first and only country artist on a hard-rock label.”

Flash forward to today, the singer-songwriter has released his debut record WHO I AM and even had his first hit song on rock radio with his break-out single “Outlaws and Outsiders,” which features legendary musicians, Travis Tritt, Ivan Moody, and Mick Mars. The debut project exemplifies exactly who Marks is. “The record is based on the story of my life from 2015 to the end of 2017 […] I like to say it’s the good, the bad, and the ugly,” adding, “A lot of the stories are about breakups or hardships or just having a hell of a good time. It’s as relatable and as honest as it gets.”

Although known as the country-rock guy, who revels in his outlaw exterior, Marks admits to loving Christmas and Christmas music. He let us in on a little secret that his next single to come out will be his rendition of a Christmas classic that was originally recorded by a 90s country band called The Tractors. The singer is keeping it a secret for now of which song he changed to fit his vibe, but we are sure that if his previous work is an inclination, that we are in for a real treat. Until then, fans can look forward to more music videos slated to come out soon and a lot of new music heading our way in 2021.

MacKenzie Porter Releases “Drinkin’ Songs”

MacKenzie Porter released a brand new song, “Drinkin’ Songs” available on all streaming platforms now.

Canadian songstress and Big Loud Records recording artist, MacKenzie Porter is a sassy and talented newcomer on the mainstream American music scene. Her break-out hits, “About You,” “These Days,” and “Seeing Other People,” all found their way to the top of the Canadian Country charts. Now her brand new track, “Drinkin’ Songs” is slated to make a splash on the charts and with American country fans as well!

The new song is another heartbreak anthem. Porter pours her heart into heart-achingly beautiful and relatable lyrics, while the instrumentals feel nostalgic and heartfelt. She transports us to another time in life with her story-telling ways. Written by Lucas Nord and Griffen Palmer, MacKenzie Porter makes this song her own and portrays the female perspective in a broken relationship. She reminds us of that song that we all have with our other half when we were together.

Mackenzie Porter Drinkin' Songs

You know when youre dating someone, and you have ‘your song,’  The one you pick together to be the theme song of your relationship…. the one where every lyric seems to be singing about your love… this is about THAT song…. after you break up,shares Porter in a recent press release. “Its the one that now magically seems to come on the radio every single time you get into the car just to remind you what was once yours. The song that used to make you feel so secure and whole but now its just another one of your drinkinsongs.”

We love Porter’s innovative take on a heartbreaking situation and anecdote. We are excited to continue to get to know what she’s all about here in the states, and we are sure fans are going to continue to fall in love with her honesty, charm, and talent.

Luke Combs Unveils “The Other Guy” In Acoustic Weekly Series

Luke Combs teased a new song titled “The Other Guy” from his upcoming What You See Ain’t Always What You Get Deluxe album. Every Monday, Combs will perform an acoustic snippet of a new track from the album in a new Weekly Series until its official release on October 23rd. Watch “The Other Guy” below:

“The Other Guy,” written by Combs, Jobe Fortner and Rob Williford, is about a guy who looks like he is doing well on the outside but is still grieving over his ex-girlfriend. In the song, the guy runs into his ex in town and she congratulates him on how well he’s been doing with the new job and all. He thanks her even though, deep down, he is still a mess from her leaving.

“You should see the other guy that’s missing you / and late at night he’s wishing you would come back home  / girl, he can’t move on  / and his heart still takes a beating just living with your leaving / and it might look like I’m doing alright / but you should see the other guy”

Lee Brice’s “One Of Them Girls” Earns Him Third Consecutive Number One

Lee Brice’s “One Of Them Girls” earns him his third consecutive number-one as the song hits the top spot on the country charts this week.

Brice has given us incredible music for over a decade. Even so, in our opinion, he is one of the more underrated singer-songwriters in the genre. Despite that notion, Brice has found more mainstream success in the last couple of years. Today, his song “One Of Them Girls” found its way to the top of the charts, marking his third consecutive number-one single after “Rumor,” and his duet with Carly Pearce, “I Hope You’re Happy Now.”

Brice released “One Of Them Girls” back in April, as the perfect prologue to “Rumor.” The now number one single is all about your thoughts before you meet your potential lover. True to Brice as a person, the song is honest, innovative, and imaginative. Written by the singer with incredible song-writers, Ashley Gorley, Dallas Davidson, and Ben Johnson, it was just a matter of time before this incredible tune got the accolades it deserves.

Lee Brice One Of Them Girls

“And you’re one of them girls that / An’t tryna meet nobody / You’re just there for the party / If I’m wrong then stop me, yeah / You’re one of them girls that / Ain’t handin’ out your number / You like to make us want you, you like to to make us wonder”

This good news comes on the heels of Brice’s latest album announcement Hey World, which will drop on November 20th. We believe that there will be more hits on the horizon for the incredible musician. Brice is confident that this will be his most successful album. In a recent press release, he shares “I am overjoyed to say that I think I have made my best project to date. I stand by everything I have ever done, but pull from it as well to help me exceed my own expectations. Because of my team, my co-producers, my engineers, my label, I was able to make what I hope will be my most successful album to date.” Of course, his last two hits will be featured on the upcoming fifteen track project.

Danielle Bradbery Unveils New Song “Girls In My Hometown”

Danielle Bradbery released a brand new song, “Girls In My Hometown” available on all streaming platforms now.

One good thing that has come out of 2020 is Danielle Bradbery’s return to music. The Voice winner and country songstress broke her music silence with the captivating song “Never Have I Ever,” and now she is showcasing her talent yet again in “Girls In My Hometown.”

We first heard this ballad back at Country Radio Seminar, (CRS) during one of the many exclusive industry showcases. The live version blew us away and this newly recorded version certainly does it justice. “Girls In My Hometown” is a poignant tune about feeling jaded and nostalgic about life and wondering about the people from your past.

This song is honest and relatable and truly showcases how women feel all the time in life. Written by one of our favorite songwriters, Nicolle Galyon, along with Josh Osborne and Emily Weisband, the lyrics are just as profound, as the vocals, and the acoustic arrangement.

Danielle Bradbery New Song Girls In My Hometown

“Are they getting married / Are they getting jaded / When they think 17 do they think of me and wonder if I made it / Are they really happy / Are they making daddy proud / What makes them cry, what gets them high / I think about the girls in my hometown”

Bradbery outdoes herself with this song, as she really leans into her vulnerability. She poses questions that many of us have experienced ourselves, which truly shows the beautify of universality on this track. We give credit to the songstress for expanding her artistry!

Caitlyn Smith and Old Dominion Duet on “I Can’t” from Deluxe Album

Caitlyn Smith and Old Dominion teamed up for a duet on a reimagined version of “I Can’t” from Smith’s Supernova deluxe album.

Back in March, Caitlyn Smith released her sophomore album Supernova at the forefront of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Despite all obstacles of the unprecedented times and the lack of balance felt throughout the world, Smith’s album soared high and well. With praise from practically every media platform and the collection itself reaching #1 on the Apple Music Singer/Songwriter Album Chart, the songstress is back on the airwaves with a deluxe edition to Supernova.

The former solo vocal production of “I Can’t” is now joined and rediscovered through a partnership with Old Dominion, dubbing the duet the group’s first-ever collaboration track.

Smith’s rendition of “I Can’t” fulfills the powerhouse artistry and high-esteemed singer-songwriter category. The lyrics are emotional and unrevealing, while the balance of strength and helplessness keeps the listener engaged through the efforts of interpretation. Though the story behind the lyrics is unclear, the portrayed aftermath holds a significant delicacy that is just as metaphysical to describe. Simply put, “I Can’t” intoxicates the listener well enough to put on a loop.

Caitlyn Smith and Old Dominion I Can't

With Old Dominion reintroducing the track as a collaboration, the auditory motion picture that Smith initially executed is given a new layer of weight and substance. Matthew Ramsey, who acts as the male lead vocalist, offers an entirely additional perspective and personality by assuming the role of the previously considered intangible figure who is mentioned through lyric.

“All the time and the whiskey I’ve wasted / That I ain’t ever getting back / And I’ve tried to find the courage just to face it / But I can’t, I can’t / And I’m tired of you feeling like a stranger / Over and over again / Oh, when everything around me keeps changing / But I can’t, I can’t, I can’t”

This rendition of Smith’s “I Can’t” with Old Dominion is not merely a collaboration. It’s an incredibly skilled and transformative duet that successfully moves like a ballad or an intense yet vulnerable contemporary dance of words. A prominent hardcore and interactive duet that compliments the originally noteworthy, sentimental, and mentally exclusive solo vocal production.

Supernova, the deluxe album, also includes a cover of “Fix You” which Smith released exclusively as an Amazon Original back in May.
