Jon Langston Premieres Brand New Song “Try Missing You”

Jon Langston’s new song “Try Missing You” is available now, July 9th on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Just last week, entertainer Jon Langston teamed up with newcomer Noah Hicks and fellow singer-songwriter Travis Denning on “Drinkin’ in a College Town.” Now, Langston showcases another side of his talent. Fans have been waiting for his newest release for years. After teasing the track at live shows and on social media, the singer finally officially premiered his heartfelt song “Try Missing You” today.

Co-written by Langston with Jody Stevens, “Try Missing You” is a song that the artist leaked over two years ago. Back in March of 2019, Langston shared a one-minute sneak peek of the song, as an acoustic performance on his YouTube page. The song showcases the singer’s vocal abilities and equally spotlights his songwriter prowess.

“Well if it weren’t for you hunny, I wouldn’t have a song to sing // I don’t know where I’m going to be tomorrow // Truth is I’m a little lost right now // The smoke and whiskey, it don’t fix me like you always do // If you think you’re missing me // Try missing you”

A love song at its core, the track is a thank you to his significant other for being there for him, as he tries to pursue this dream. It is often difficult to be a touring musician and be in a relationship. This song expresses what it’s like to be on the road and missing your lover.

Despite the fact that we are not all artists, the song is as relatable as it gets. Anyone who has ever been in love knows how it feels to experience your heart aching for your lover when they are not with you. “Try Missing You” might be one of Langston’s most vulnerable and best songs to date!

Mitchell Tenpenny Releases Fan-favorite Song, “Truth About You”

Mitchell Tenpenny’s brand new song “Truth About You” is available now, July 9th on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Back in May, one of our day one favorites, Mitchell Tenpenny shared an unreleased song on his social media. As an unreleased and untitled song, we instantly loved it and jumped on the bandwagon for Tenpenny to release the track. Well, today is our lucky day! The singer officially dropped the brand new track, “Truth About Us” today.

The hooky song is about a messy break-up. Taking a unique approach, Tenpenny shares the perspective of the person, who is being gossiped about. “Truth About Us” is one of those tracks that you instantly relate to and learn all the words to just after a few listens. Tenpenny remains true to himself and his artistry in this song, keeping with the vibes of his previously released music.

“One of them went down and one is made up, but in the end, we both lose // Why can’t we meet in the middle, call it even, call it a truce // Yeah if you quit telling lies about me, I won’t tell the truth about you”

Honestly, we predict that this jam will be another instant fan-favorite for the singer. We’re excited to see what is next for the recording artist, as we await another full-length project and more new music.

Who Is Kristen Merlin? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Kristen Merlin? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Kristen Merlin

Kristen Merlin

The Beginning:

Today we are highlighting a seasoned musician in the country music industry. Kristen Merlin, a rising artist, is creating a movement with music. She chatted with us all about her backstory, her personal struggles, and of course, her music.

Growing up in a little town outside of Boston, Massachusetts, Merlin gravitated towards music. “Music has always been something that was super important to me, that made me feel like I belonged,” declared the songstress. The singer recalls singing in the choir at church and later at open-mic nights in college.

Merlin used music as a form of therapy and as an emotional release. Even in middle school, she found herself writing songs. However, it was high school where Merlin wrote her first song that truly meant something to her and others. “My grandfather was sick,” she tell us, “I had this idea inside me that I needed to get out […] What it was was a goodbye to my grandfather from my grandmother.” The singer recalls singing it at her grandfather’s funeral, and again, years later, when she lost a good friend.

“It was really when I started to make sense of the idea that music is super healing. It is therapeutic, it can evoke emotion in people that they need to feel.” The singer-songwriter continued to feel into this even more, as she cultivated her sound after high school, hitting the cover band scene as a full-time artist.

The Turning Point:

Although clearly already successful, Merlin’s career began to grow exponentially, when she became a contestant on “The Voice.” She finished in the top five of the mega-hit show. “I was doing music full-time previous to “The Voice,” but it allowed me to do it on a much bigger level and it also gave me the jumping-off point to move to Nashville,” adding later, “Nashville is where I fell in love with the original music side of everything.”

As a Nashville transplant, the singer has found her passion in country music, a genre that she was not always interested in as a kid. “I didn’t love country music growing up, until I got into the 90s music of Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Reba.” Nowadays, the singer loves so many artists in the genre, including Carrie Underwood, Brett Young, and Luke Combs.

“I always loved the storytelling aspects of country music,” shared Merlin. “As much as I love every other type of music out there, it was really special to me when I started writing my truth, my stories, and things like that, and it fits in the country realm. It all just kinda came together naturally.”

Today:

Today, the singer-songwriter recently released her beautiful new song “Shame.” “The inspiration for the song was being so vulnerable and raw in the moment,” shares Merlin as she recalls sitting down for the write with fellow songwriters. “Shame just came falling out of us in that writing session and everything just felt right.”

“Shame on the way you’re acting // Shame that you can’t get past it // Shame that you just can’t see // I’m more than who I hold hands with”

The song shares the struggles that the LGBTQ community goes through, but really, it is an anthem for anyone who has ever felt misunderstood or like they don’t belong. Merlin was inspired by both, adding “being a person myself coming through tough times and feeling like an outsider [resonates with me].” The singer even partnered with the Human Rights Campaign in honor of Pride Month and the overall message of the well-respected organization.

Merlin promises to continue to release more music this year. She’s not sure yet what song will come next, but she wants fans to be involved in the process. Clearly an artist for the people, Merlin deserves a place in your music catalog and in country music.

Chris Young and Kane Brown Earn #1 Song with “Famous Friends”

Chris Young and Kane Brown earn #1 song with their collaboration “Famous Friends.” The song is officially the top song at country radio.

Back in November, Chris Young dropped a brand new song in collaboration with his buddy, fellow superstar Kane Brown. That song is of course, hit single, “Famous Friends.” Today, the track is the number one song at country radio.

Written by Young with Cary Barlowe and Corey Crowder, the song is an ode to amazing people in Rutherford, Hamilton, and Davidson Country, Tennessee, all places that are special to the singer. The twosome sing about local heroes like preachers, sheriffs, and teachers. The collaboration marks the second time Young and Brown have shared the mic on a song. Back in 2016, the singers released “Setting the Night on Fire” together.

“I’ve got some famous friends you’ve probably never heard of // But back in Rutherford County our crowd is second to none // You might not know ‘em here in this big city we’re in // But when I go back home I’ve got some famous friends // Yeah I do”

“Famous Friends” is the 12th official number one single for Young. For Brown, the song brings his total hits to seven. Quite a feat for talented artists!

Riley Green: ‘BEHIND THE BAR’ – EP Review

Riley Green’s new EP, BEHIND THE BAR, is out today, July 2nd on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Riley Green has been busy during quarantine and since the release of IF IT WASN’T FOR TRUCKS. Over the last year, the singer-songwriter spent time reconnecting with his Alabama roots. The newfound connection is expressively clear on his new project. Green’s brand new EP BEHIND THE BAR is officially out for fans to enjoy.

The record kicks off with the title track. An upbeat and fun song, “Behind The Bar” is an ode to the good life. Green sings about country living, where everyone is drinking and having fun “under the neon stars.” The rowdy song will be the perfect addition to the singer’s setlist.

As the EP transitions, Green begins to pull back the layers, unveiling the life lessons he has learned to the listeners. “That’s What I’ve Been Told” is a simple, poetic country song. The singer shares all the lessons and experiences he has learned throughout his life from influential people through different stages.

“If you’re just saying prayers, then you ain’t praying // If both men ain’t shook hands, then it ain’t sold // When daddy don’t say nothing, you better listen // ‘Cause he won’t be here for long // and that girl ain’t coming back if you let her go // At least that’s what I’ve been told”

Next up is Green’s previously released single “If It Wasn’t For Trucks.” The nostalgic song is an appreciation for everything a truck symbolizes for a good-ole country boy. Without being generic, the singer finds a way to embody love, loss, grief, and risk, while using the common thread of having his truck through all of those emotions.

Continuing to showcase his undeniable talent, “Put ‘Em On Mine” showcases the more flirty and romantic side of the singer. Green flirts opportunity and a potential love interest on the sultry song. Similarly, sentimental and pure, “That Was Us” showcases the love of a place and a person. Green enlists the help of songstress Jessi Alexander, up-leveling the clever song to a duet.

“Like a Tennessee river // A little reckless and a little hell bound // We were tailgate talking about forever // Like our boots would never hit the ground // At the end of that trail of tears and a cloud of dust // Baby, that was us”

The story-telling continues to be the center of the EP with the last two songs off the project. A fan-favorite, “I Let A Damn Good Woman Leave,” showcases Green lamenting about past mistakes in love and in life. Finally, the closing track “That’s My Dixie,” tackles the notion that although country music and country living is laced with prejudice and a checkered past. Green declares that that’s not the country-living he knows.

“It’s who I am // Mr. give a damn // For the ones that came before me // That broken part of a southern heart is more than just Old glory // It’s a star of mind that’s deep and wide and strong as the Mississippi // We sing Amazing Grace and curse the heat // Yeah, that’s my Dixie”

Overall the seven-song project cements Green’s staying power in country music. First and foremost, the artist is a storyteller and songwriter, the true essence of country music. Congrats to Green on a solid record!
