We love supporting our local New York artists like Willie Lock. The singer-songwriter is as talented as ever. He also has a new song out! Today, the singer shares his brand new song, “When We Were 17.”

Written from a nostalgic perspective, the new single is a country song for everyone. “When We Were 17” reminds us all of the sweeter times, when we were going to football games with friends, hanging out with our classmates, and making the most out of life. If this song does not leave you with a big smile on your face and an all-too-familiar ache in your chest for simpler times, you are lying!

“We walked off the field // and we shed a tear // When we were 17 //When we were seventeen // We were drinking beer in the parking lot, fleeing the scene before we got caught // Never realized what those nights meant to me // Never realized what those nights meant to me // When we were 17”

Lock knows a thing or two about evoking emotion in his listeners. “When We Were 17” fits the bill. This is a must-add to your music library.

Roman Alexander Drops New Song “Guys Like Me”

Roman Alexander’s new song, “Guys Like Me” is out now, October 14th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand-new track below.

Singer-songwriter, Roman Alexander is embarking on the next chapter of his music. Alexander has a knack for creating music that makes you feel something. Today he is sharing a perfect, opposites-attract love song called “Guys Like Me.”

The new song is a tale as old as time. ‘City’ boy meets a small-town girl, and they fall in love. However, Alexander manages to put a new spin on the classic story. Each verse portrays the sweet dichotomy between the lovers. For example, he’s heading out on the town, and she’s spending her weekends cuddled up with a good book.

“If oil and water mixed // It would be something like this // Guys like me and girls like you // You’re Chardonnay, I’m 90 proof // You’re a sweet home Alabama // I’m a skyline city view // They say opposites attract // Through history, it’s been a fact // Some things, but they do // Guys like me and girls like you”

Alexander is one to look out for. The singer-songwriter has quietly formed a devoted fanbase, one song at a time. He continues to prove his undeniable talent and charm with each song. “Guys Like Me” may be our favorite so far.

Kylie Morgan: ‘Songs To Say I Do’ – EP Review

Kylie Morgan’s EP, Songs To Say I Do, is out now, October 14th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand-new project below and check out our full review.

Inspired by her own October wedding, singer-songwriter Kylie Morgan released her EP, Songs To Say I Do, today. Featuring five new songs co-written by the EMI Records Nashville artist, the EP includes her viral hit “Bridesmaids,” which has absolutely exploded on TikTok.

Other tracks include “Always Been You,” “That’s My Man,” “Fireworks,” and “Good Hands,” each detailing various aspects of her wedding and courtship. In many ways, much of the EP is a love letter to her husband, her friends, and all of the complex feelings that go into planning and celebrating a wedding.

“Bridesmaids” is a clear and immediate standout, as there are not enough songs out there dedicated to female friendships. On the catchy ode to those who have stood by her through thick and thin, Morgan celebrates the “sisters she gets to choose,” including her high school friends, those who would post her bail, and those alongside her as she makes drunken decisions.

“My bridesmaids // My ride or dies // My champagne-tipsy kinda tribe // Wild ones, right by my side // Rocking black while I’m wearing white // Sisters I get to choose // Mighta found the one but I need you too // The song’s always about the groom // But I just can’t say I do // Without my bridesmaids”

Meanwhile, “Fireworks,” “That’s My Man,” and “Always Been You” are all tracks dedicated to the groom. On the mid-tempo “Fireworks,” she applauds taking chances, despite being burned in the past. “Why would I hold back my heart just ‘cause it’s been broken?” She asks. “I hope that I never learn // Even though I’ve been burned, I still love fireworks.”

With the twangy and fun “That’s My Man,” she toasts to all the things that make him unique, while “Always Been You” is about love at first sight. She admits here that she’s always known he was the one, as she sings, “ “I walked down the aisle when I first walked up to you….When you asked me out, that’s when I said ‘I do.’”

Lastly “Good Hands” finds her assuring her father that she’s in good hands when he gives her away to her groom. “I’m in good hands, when he’s holding onto mine, I know who I am, when I look in his eyes, “ She sings. “And he only sees the best in me, even when it’s hard to find, he’s a good man, I’m in good hands.”

On Songs To Say I Do, Kylie Morgan offers a special souvenir for her own wedding and for anyone about to tie the knot.

Chase Rice Teases New Musical Era With “Way Down Yonder”

Chase Rice’s new song, “Way Down Yonder” is out now, October 14th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand-new track below.

Multi-platinum singer-songwriter, Chase Rice continues to reveal the sonic shift of his upcoming project with this rugged outlaw anthem. Co-written with Hunter Phelps, John Byron, Blake Pendergrass, and Corey Crowder during a writing retreat in Florida, Rice recalled thinking of the mountains of his home state of North Carolina while penning this tune.

“All of a sudden during the recording process, Rob McNelley started playing this crazy carnival sound on the acoustic… and it got Western quick. That turned it from a song I didn’t think was even going to make the cut for this next album into one of my favorite songs on the project.”

“Make your love where the bees make honey // When the cut’s where you’re born and raised // Man it’s in your blood we were born this way down yonder”

This song has everything going for it to make it a hit single on radio—the catchy lyrics; the southern-rock sound; and the wild-west imagery. The writers use a lot of same-line rhymes and alliteration to hook listeners into the story. Phrases like “Rippin’ hot rod runners,” “moonshine money,” and “Bootleg Bertie’s” flow so well with the music.

The most impressive feature of the whole song is that the video was shot in one take. The camera follows Rice around the saloon, panning to other characters hanging out in the bar as well. At one point in the video, fisticuffs break out over a poker game.

“Way Down Yonder” joins “If I Were Rock & Roll” and “Key West & Colorado” on, what Rice refers to as, his forthcoming “trackless” album. Rice honored his late father at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this week by debuting an unreleased song titled “For A Day,” which will also make the new record.

“It is the edge of the record. It’s real, it’s believable,” Rice shared in a recent press release. “There are no tracks on the record, which is different for country music these days — believe it or not — because everybody’s doing tracks. None of that. There’s not even a click on it. The whole thing was based on the feel of the drummers — us playing off each other.”

Fans can expect a more authentic and unfeigned project from Rice this time around. Rice will appear on SiriusXM The Highway’s “Music Row Happy Hour” tonight to celebrate the song’s release and share more insight into the record. See Rice perform these songs live on tour this fall. Who Is Avery Anna? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Avery Anna? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-avery-anna

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Avery Anna
Birthday – March 2
Hometown – Flagstaff, Arizona
Current City – Nashville, Tennessee
Music Influences – Taylor Swift, Kelsea Ballerini, Carrie Underwood
Label – Warner Music Nashville
Current project- Mood Swings EP (*as of date of article: 10/10/22)

The Beginning:

There is nothing better than championing young women in country music. Last week we shared country newcomer, Avery Anna’s brand new debut EP, Mood Swings, but today we are sharing her journey to where she is now. The young and talented singer-songwriter is an incredible storyteller with music that everyone needs to listen to.

Growing up in Flagstaff, Arizona, Anna always had a love for country music. She shares, “I started singing when I was really young with my grandpa. He would play guitar and I would sing. […] “We would sing traditional country music like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard.” She credits those early experiences with her grandfather as the jumping-off point for why she fell in love with country music.

Anna also started writing music at a young age, after falling in love with Taylor Swift and her unique artistry.

“That’s kind of where my love of country music started and I’ve been keeping a journal, I write my own songs I guess since I was super little,” she began, adding later, “I remember going to a Taylor Swift concert when I was younger and watching her play, and thinking ‘I want to do this so so bad,’ but I never let myself verbally say that’s what I wanted to do for life, because I didn’t want that dream to be taken away from me if that doesn’t happen.”

Despite knowing in her heart that country music was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, it was scary to admit that out loud. That all changed when social media gave her a platform for her music.

The Turning Point:

Like many of us, when the pandemic started, we went to social media to connect when we were born. For Anna, this started her on a trajectory to a record deal with Warner Music Nashville, but she didn’t know it yet. “When COVID hit during zoom school, I would get really, really bored, and I would go to my mom’s bathroom and I would sing in her big clawfoot bathtub because the acoustics were really good in there, and I posted on TikTok of me doing “Say Something” in there and it blew up.”

The viral video connected her with her managers, which eventually led to her record deal. “We started working together and I started posting my own music, and it’s just kind of taken off from there. It’s been a complete whirlwind,” shared the songstress. I graduated high school in May, so I’m 18, and I moved to Nashville in August and finished my senior year online.”

For Anna, the second she realized she could actually be a singer-songwriter and artist for a living, she was ready to go! “I never let myself have that dream until all the people around me believed in me, and then I was like pedal to the metal, let’s do this thing.”

Today:

Anna poured her love for artists like Taylor Swift, Patsy Cline, Zach Bryan, and Kelsea Ballerini into her debut EP, Mood Swings. According to the singer, “This EP touches on a lot of different parts of me as an artist that people haven’t seen yet in my music.”

The brand new project is an honest and incredible introduction to her incredible talent. “The reason that I called it ‘Mood Swings’ is because it has all the extreme emotions that I felt over the past couple of years. […] It kind of takes you on this emotional roller coaster if you listen to it top to bottom or even randomly, but I’m super, super proud of the writer’s on it.”

Songs like “Narcissist,” have already touched so many people across the music landscape “‘Narcissist’ for example has created this huge community on the internet of people who have walked through the same thing as me. And knowing that I wrote a song, created this space on the internet for people to talk about their stories is the most uplifting and comforting feeling in the whole world,” shared the singer.

Anna will continue to draw inspiration from her own life and infuse it into her music. Fans can catch her on tour with Spencer Crandall, and can anticipate more new music coming sooner rather than later! Keep Anna on your radar for sure.

Morgan Wallen’s “You Proof” is Officially Number One at Country Radio

Morgan Wallen continues his streak of number ones with his seventh song to top the country charts, “You Proof.”

Morgan Wallen is officially back on the top of the country charts once again! The singer-songwriter continues to break records with his sophomore record Dangerous: The Double Album; however, the superstar is already thinking about what is to come. Today his standalone single “You Proof” is number one at country radio.

From the moment it was teased on social media, Wallen had won over fans with “You Proof.” He laments about how hard it is to get over someone, mentioning that he needs an alcohol strong enough to numb the pain. An all too relatable concept, the singer-songwriter proves his musical ability yet again on this track.

“I need something “You proof” // Something stronger than I’m used to // Yeah, I’ve been pullin’ 90 to 100 // Feel like nothing’s gonna cut it, that’s the hard truth // Yeah, I need something // “You proof” // Aw, I need something “You proof”‘

There is truly no stopping Wallen! His career continues to catapult him to superstardom. It is just a matter of time before he wins entertainer of the year at one of the coveted country music award shows. Congrats to Wallen and his team on their seventh number-one single with “You Proof.”

Everette: ‘Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B’ – Review

Everette’s new project, Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B is out now, October 7th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

With a traditional yet modern sound and a sense of humor rarely seen in the genre, Everette – made up of Brent Rupard and Anthony Olympia  – is one of country music’s most interesting new acts. Today, the duo released the follow-up to their 2020 album with Broken Bow Records, Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B.

From the project’s name alone, it’s immediately clear that Everette is a band that doesn’t take itself too seriously. “From beginning to end of Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B, we explore every shade of us stylistically and lyrically,” says the duo in a statement. “These songs relive the stories from our 16 years of friendship and musical partnership that made Everette. We feel like the world can use a little off-the-wall crazy to escape every now and then, and we’d love to take you there and back again.”

From the opening strains of “Run,” Everette sets the tone for an album that both veers traditional, yet toes the line to modern and beyond. On the mid-tempo, almost-Eagles-inspired ballad, the pair are setting someone free, with the hopes that she comes back. “Run wild free and when you run out of road,” They plead. “Baby run, run, run// run right back to me.”

Meanwhile, the dynamic duo introduce a hand-clapping twang on the sunny, banjo-laden “Woo Hoo Hoo,” which has them looking at the bright side of life. “Life’s too short to see your glass half empty,” They muse. “Gotta understand when half is plenty.”

In that same vein is the endlessly catchy “Shunk as Drit,” which is a tongue-in-cheek twangy celebration of one’s last day on Earth. On “She Got That From Me,” they offer a clever lyrical spin on the idea of being the heartbreaker as opposed to the heartbroken, while “Wild Woman” is a driving guitar-heavy track about a woman who simply drives them wild.

There’s also the uber-catchy standout tracks, “Gonna Be a Problem” and “Make Me Want One.” The former could easily be an Eric Church single, in the best way possible, while the latter is another immediate earworm, finding the boys wanting things they’ve never wanted before, in a clever way that is purely Everette.

“You’re gonna be a smile stuck in my head // Makin’ me roll around in my bed // Drivin’ all night with bloodshot eyes // Tryna get to you by the mornin’ ligh t// You’re gonna be the reason // I’m havin’ trouble breathin’ // I can already see it now // You’re gonna be // You’re gonna be a problem”

Side B ends with “Get By,” a catchy singalong track, made for a live show, the pair admitting that we’re all alike, as “we’re all trying to get by.”

With a mix of clever lyrics and classic country instrumentation, Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B is truly one of the most interesting projects in recent memory. Despite not taking themselves too seriously, Everette still manages to put out pure country bangers that are sure to take them from the Dairy Queen parking lot to the main stage in no time.
