Today, March 12th, marks the official arrival of another powerful female voice in country music, Tiera. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter released her self-titled debut EP, and the radiant five-song collection shows why she’s been widely noted as one of country music’s next rising stars. Produced by Cameron Bedell, the EP is the perfect piece of upbeat contemporary country.

One of the EP’s stand-out tracks is “Not Your Girl,” written by Tiera with Cameron Bedell and Newsome. Although the song could easily apply to a relationship, Tiera reveals that for her, it was written about the music industry. In an interview with Apple Music, she revealed, “…we wrote this song from a relationship perspective, but really it’s about, when I first moved to Nashville, it was really important for me to figure out my sound and the brand and everything. Just figure it all out myself before I had anybody else telling me what to do, you know, because I feel like it’s so easy to be swayed in one direction in the music… When I first moved here, my sound was super country because I was like, “It has to be 100% country because I don’t want anybody to doubt whether or not I’m a country artist,” but I feel like that song was kind of just me telling the world, “I’m going to be who I am and not let anybody change that.”

Recently engaged and planning a wedding later this year, the EP definitely reflects Tiera’s happiness in love and life. The collection opens with the wistful “Found It In You,”  celebrating that moment of finding everything you’ve been looking for in another person.

“I found it in you // Every little thing that I was missing baby // You love me a whole different kind of crazy // You got to the heart of me // Boy the best part of me”

The theme of contentment and joy continues through all five tracks and provides the perfect soundtrack for spring and summer. There’s nothing depressing about this Tiera EP, and it’s a welcomed change of pace from the doom and gloom of the real world especially over the past year through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, “Laid Back” feels like a breezy summer jam, while “Shut It Down” is a poppy tune about staying out too late and breaking all the rules.

“Miles” is a unique collaboration with Breland, and it’s easily one of the highlights of the EP. The two bounce off each other perfectly, adding another layer to an already great song.

Signed to acclaimed songwriter Nicolle Galyon’s female-focused publishing company, Songs and Daughters, big things are ahead for Tiera, and this EP is a perfect introduction to the mainstream. Tiera’s EP is truly a fifteen-minute escape from real life, and it’s a mini-vacation that any music fan should take.

Sony Music Nashville artist, Joey Hendricks finally released his major-label debut EP today, March 12th and country music fans are going to want to pay attention to this country music crooner. Full of heart, pure talent, and soul, Between the Clouds is a unique record that encompasses stories we can all relate to. The new release is a mix between soul and country, reminiscent of artists like John Mayer and Teddy Robb. Hendricks teeters the line between genres, fitting right in with the new wave of sub-genres in country music.

With just five songs, Hendricks is able to convey to his growing fanbase exactly who he is as a musician. The record opens up with “Yours or Mine,” the lead single off the project. The lyrics unfold a story about the beginning of a blossoming, new relationship, where the singer-songwriter questions who is going to do what first in the beginning stages of getting to know someone.

“Whose phone gonna buzz tomorrow with a text, says “I had a great time” // I say it’s yours // But I’m hoping it’s mine // Whose friends ain’t gonna let it go? //  say “you didn’t come home last night” // If it ain’t yours // It’s gonna be mine”

“Hollywood” is another song off the record that Hendricks pre-released. The track is catchy, smooth, and a vibe that you cannot help but fall in love with. The singer’s vocals are put on display right away, as he sings the beginning lyrics with virtually no backing track, showcasing real, authentic talent.

The center song on the project, “Top Drawer” is a mix of everything we love about the first two opening tracks. “Top Drawer” is arguably the most mainstream country-rock song in the catalog. Feeling enticingly familiar, the track is the perfect mix of tempos. Lyrically, the song pulls you into the nostalgia that we all feel, when we visit places from our past, especially our childhood homes.

“Lighters up, sun setting over Red Rocks // With old friend I don’t see much // I’m kissing Janie in the middle of “Dream On” // Swore we were never breaking up // Damn, it takes me back // When I go back home // All the good and bad // In the top drawer”

“Going Home” is another radio-friendly tune off the record. Showing the softer side of Hendricks, with acoustic rifts and honest lyrics, “Going Home” feels like it could have easily been a Jordan Davis hit. However, the lyricist finds a way to make the song his own, as he pours his heart into the emotions about leaving your hometown.

Finally, the record ends with “Drifter.” Tapping into his outlaw side, Hendricks admits to not being able to settle in one place for too long. With vibes similar to Brothers Osborne, “Drifter” is the outlier on the record that still finds a way to fit in perfectly with the other track. It is this ending song that makes us the most excited about the next chapter of music for Hendricks.

Hendricks’ debut project is one that we are super excited about. Each song tells a unique chapter, but as a whole, the record feels cohesive and like a complete story. Between the Clouds is representative of Hendricks’ artistry, versatility, and his incredible knack for storytelling. His light shines bright, and we anticipate a stellar debut album in the future.

Lady A Releases Female Empowerment Anthem “Like A Lady”

Lady A’s new song, “Like A Lady” is available now, March 12th on all streaming platforms. Written by the group’s Hillary Scott with Dave Barnes, Michelle Buzz, Martin Johnson, and Brandon Paddock, and produced by acclaimed producer Dan Huff, take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Country music’s newest female empowerment anthem is here. ‘Like a Lady’ is an upbeat, funky song that’s sure to be the soundtrack to your next road trip with your best girls. The retro feel and empowering lyrics follow the trio’s hit “Champagne Night”, which premiered last year on NBC’s Songland and recently hit number one back in January. 

“I feel my most confident when I’m not trying too hard,” leading lady Hillary Scott explains in a press release. “I love getting glammed up and all the fancy clothes, but when I feel the most ‘me,’ it’s a lot more laid back – and I think that’s a lot of us. You are your most authentic self in blue jeans with a tequila drink, ya know? As we were writing it, I was like ‘It’s always been my dream to do a song that combines the things I love about Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’ and Shania Twain’s ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’ – two of the most strong, powerful female songs ever,” Scott continued. “So it was like ‘How can we do our version of that?’”

‘Like a Lady’ may speak to the independence of being a woman, but the two male members of the band, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, were happy to jump in as allies. “We were some of the biggest champions for ‘Like A Lady’ and we’re honored to stand alongside Hillary,” says Haywood. “We’ve had a front-row seat to her strength over the years and we love linking arms with her on this song.” Scott adds, “It’s incredible that Charles and Dave, in all their masculinity, are willing to sing right alongside me on this song. I think that is another powerful statement. It’s super important for strong, great men to stand beside women and propel them forward.”

A new song isn’t the only thing Hillary Scott has to celebrate. This month, she is one of 31 female leaders from diverse industries featured in the Dress For Success backed “Your Hour, Her Power” campaign in honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. 

The track will likely be a fan favorite when the band can eventually get back on the road, but for now as the weather gets nicer this is the song to roll down the windows and jam out to.

His newest song, “Hello, You Up” deepens our respect for Stemaly’s unique style and talent.

“Hello, You Up” is a clever, quasi-break-up song that we can all relate to. The track paints the picture of an on-again/off-again couple that are missing each other. Utilizing the ever-popular phrase “Hello, You Up,” Stemaly creates a song that feels meaningful; despite, the usually insidious sentiment. The new music video amplifies the song, giving visuals to the couple and their will they/won’t they narrative.

Miranda Lambert: New Music, Nashville Bar and GRAMMYs

Miranda Lambert just dropped new music, announced a forthcoming collaborative album, revealed plans for a Nashville bar, and is set to perform at The GRAMMYs…

In a series of posts first shared with fans early last week, Miranda Lambert teased some upcoming news that she would be joining forces with fellow songwriters Jack Ingram and Jon Randall to release a collection of songs entitled The Marfa Tapes, due out May 7th. The record is a culmination of intimate and raw songs that the threesome wrote and recorded together in the tiny town of Marfa, Texas. To introduce the project, the group have released the first track off the record, a song called “In His Arms.”

Like the other tunes from the upcoming album, “In His Arms” was recorded and written when the trio visited the middle-of-nowhere town back In November. The songwriting haven has become a profound location for personal growth, love, trust, and friendship. “In His Arms” is pure poetry set to lovely instrumentals. The song is all about missing a man, who she only knew from a brief encounter. The sentiment is the perfect introduction to the rest of the record.

“There’s something singular that happens in that moment of collaboration and creation, something you can never really recreate in the studio,” said Ingram in a recent press release. “Our hope with this album was to share a little bit of that magic with people.”

In addition to the new music news, Lambert also revealed plans for her very own bar on Broadway in Nashville’s famed downtown area. Repping for the girls, the establishment named Casa Rosa, marks the first bar and restaurant on Broadway to be opened by a female country singer. Casa Rosa is set to open in summer 2021 and will feature four floors of live entertainment, including a rooftop bar.

Casa Rosa, which translates to “Pink House” will feature tufted pink boots, lots of rhinestones, memorabilia from Lambert’s career, including costumes from music videos, guitars, and more. On the menu will be Tex-Mex options like tacos and of course, tequila.

The award-winning singer shared the news with fans via Instagram, adding “I’m so excited I’ll have a honky tonk with my name on it!  Tacos, tequila and tufted pink booths…what else can a girl ask for?! This place is special to me and I’m happy to be representing the ladies here in Music City. See y’all down there @casarosanashville soon!”

That’s not all for exciting happenings in the singer’s professional life. It was also recently revealed that Lambert will be performing this Sunday, March 14th at The GRAMMYs where she is nominated for three awards including Best Country Solo Performance, Best Country Song for “Bluebird” and Best Country Album for Wildcard. Luke Bryan Drinks Away Lost Love in “Drink a Little Whiskey Down”

Luke Bryan’s new song, “Drink A Little Whiskey Down” is available now, March 5th, on all streaming platforms. Written by Bryan, Matt Dragstrem, and Josh Thompson, the song takes you on a journey of love lost and drowning those sorrows in the bottle.

When it comes to moving on from his lost love, Luke Bryan wants us to know he’s doing just fine. He’s moving on, and he’s getting over her, but every now and then, he falls back into old habits on his new song, “Drink A Little Whiskey Down.”

The melancholy moving-on-mixed-with-mourning track tells the tale of Bryan twisting off the cap every now and then, having “just enough to get you gone.” In general, he’s back to his old habits, like hanging with his friends and doing just fine. He’s “come a long way getting over us,” but sometimes he finds himself wondering if she misses him.

“It don’t happen like it used to happen/ When it does, I twist off the cap/ And drink a little whiskey down.”

Bryan wants her to know he’s doing just okay without her, but he’ll admit to himself and everyone listening that he may slip up every now and then.

“I don’t need your touch/ Need your smile/ Except for every once in a while.”

Co-written by Bryan with Matt Dragstem, and Josh Thompson, the track is one of six new songs on the deluxe re-release of Bryan’s 2020 album, Born Here, Live Here, Die Here. “We all know 2020 was hard on all levels for many,” Bryan revealed in a statement. “Things were put on hold in the entertainment business, but it did allow more time to make music and I’m excited to share these six new songs.”

Meanwhile, Bryan has been keeping busy, appearing on the new season of American Idol on ABC and celebrating his latest #1 this week with “Down To One,” his 26th career chart-topper. It remains to be seen if “Drink A Little Whiskey Down” will be his 27th, but on the strength of the song and Bryan’s star-power, it seems very likely.

Thomas Rhett Announces Double Album and Drops Two Songs

Thomas Rhett surprised fans with the official release of two new songs, “Growing Up” and “Want It Again” along with announcing his plans to release a DOUBLE album project titled Country Again Side A & Side B. Side A is set to be released on April 30, and Side B later this year. Fans can pre-order Side A now here. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music and the big announcement.

First up of the new releases is, “Want it Again”. The song tells the story of two people that fall in love at a young age but just like everyone always warned, it just didn’t last. This story goes through the different stages of connection between these two. First, they’re young and in love and when things don’t work out, they figure someday they might find their way back to each other. They move on with other people but somewhere in the back of their mind they’re still thinking of the other and thinking that maybe one day they’d be together again. When those other relationships don’t end up lasting either, they lean on each other’s shoulders to get through those breakups and eventually find their way back into each other’s arms, admitting that they always knew they would. 

“You moved on and so did I / But you danced around in the back of my mind / Yeah good for you, he seems like a good guy / Well you know me enough to know that’s a lie”

The track was written by Rhett along with frequent co-writers Josh Miller, Josh Thompson, and Matt Dragstream. The story of the subjects in the song can very much compare to the true story of Thomas Rhett and his now-wife Lauren Akins. As told in her book, ‘Live in Love’, The two dated in high school after being neighborhood and family friends for the majority of their lives. They decided they were better off friends and stopped seeing each other. Throughout the rest of high school and onto college, they remained friends, but each moved on and found themselves in serious relationships with other people. When those relationships ended, they leaned on each other to get through those breakups and ultimately found themselves back in the arms of their friend and once young loves.  

“Girl I knew someday you’d find, your way back into my arms / So girl I kept this heart of mine / Somewhere good and safe, I knew you’d want it again someday / I always hoped and prayed, that you’d want it again someday”

The next track released is “Growing Up”. As fans can imagine, the title gives the gist of the story behind the song away. “Growing Up” reminisces on the lessons you learn as you get older, and that continues to happen through different stages of your life. Rhett shares that this song describes his own life and what he has come to realize as he sees himself growing up. It’s not to say that growing up is a single era of one’s life, but more that it is a continuous learning experience.

“Guess you get a little older, get a little wiser, a little more turn that cheek / little less what I want and more what I need, these days I / Still get a little crazy, in a lot of ways I’m still the kid I was / Just a little less temper and a lot more love / I guess I’m growing up”

Every once in a while, a new singer-songwriter comes around, and you automatically think “ARTIST.” That is exactly how we feel about former Swag Spotlight artist, Raleigh Keegan. The rising talent creates music that is straight from his soul and is truly unlike any other artist on the scene right now. As he continues to work on a new album with producer Ryan Gore, Keegan released his newest song “Handyman” for fans to enjoy.

The brand new single is vocally-driven with lyrics that will make you think about life and love. The first verse sets the scene, as Keegan declares that he can be whatever his lover needs him to be. The chorus takes that notion a step further until the singer admits in the last line of the chorus that it’s not that easy for himself. The lyric reads “Wish it could be that easy for me to fix myself.”

Backed by incredible piano and guitar, the second verse is just as impactful as the first. The focal point; however, is on how difficult it is to help yourself sometimes; despite, wanting to. Quite possibly one of Keegan’s most vulnerable songs to date, “Handyman” is a solid song that is good in every area.

Although the song is great on its own, Keegan is also partnering with the Nashville chapter of Habitat for Humanity on March 14th to help with building a home for a single mom of three. According to his Instagram, five contest winners will get to help Keegan on the build and also win a socially-distanced lunch and mini-concert after. Fans can submit a TikTok video of themselves creatively using any of his songs in the background by tagging Keegan and by texting it to his phone number. Fans must be local to Nashville or be able to get to Nashville on March 14th.

Brett Kissel New Song “Make A Life, Not A Living”

Brett Kissel’s brand new song “Make A Life, Not A Living” is available now, March 5th, everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

A major success already in his home country of Canada, Brett Kissel looks to have the same impact on country music in the states. His charismatic personality, energetic stage presence, and talented music style has led him to the top of Canadian country music charts, with two Gold-certified albums, a Platinum single, eight Gold Singles, and 15 top-10 radio hits. 

Between 2019 and 2020, Kissel took home several awards including the JUNO Award (the equivalent to an American GRAMMY) for Country Album of the Year for We Were That Song, and won the Canadian Country Music Association’s (CCMA) Fan’s Choice Award, Male of the Year, and Album of the Year. This was Kissel’s second JUNO Award, his first being for Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2014, which made him the first country artist to take home the title in 17 years, the last being Shania Twain.

The song is about filling your life with experiences and moments with the people you love and not determining your life’s value by dollar amounts and materialistic items. It’s a reminder to be happy with all that you do have and to not worry about what you don’t. When it comes down to it, you can’t take anything with you when you go so you might as well spend your time focused on making a life, not a living.

Robert Counts Releases “What Do I Know” Featuring HARDY

Robert Counts re-released his debut radio single “What Do I Know” with HARDY, available now March 5th on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Back in December, we introduced you to one of Sony Music Nashville’s newest singer-songwriters, Robert Counts, in one of our Swag Spotlight features. The budding musician had just released his debut single, “What Do I Know” to country radio, a song he wrote with one of our favorites, HARDY, and the talented, Jake Mitchell. Today, Counts and his label are re-releasing the jam this time and shaking things up a bit by adding HARDY to the song.

“What Do I Know” is one of those songs that you just know is meant for radio. Counts came out swinging with this tune, introducing fans to his country roots and his knack for songwriting. Of course, it is obvious that HARDY had a hand in the songwriting. Similar to HARDY’s songs “UNAPOLOGETICALLY COUNTRY AS HELL” and “WHERE YA AT” off of his debut album A ROCK, “What Do I Know” is just an extension of his songwriting genius.

“Say what you think / Think ‘fore you speak / Don’t kill nothin’ that you ain’t gonna eat / You learn from the dirt what the street can’t teach / That backward philosophy / Hell, it still means a lot to me / But what do I know?”

The twosome take turns singing the verses before they jam out together on the last chorus. In a post on Instagram, Counts shares “This song is really about how some of the simplest pieces of advice you get growing up, especially as a kid in the south, tend to stand the test of time and be pretty solid words to live by even as an adult.”

We’d say that that is a pretty good summary of all that the song has to offer. Congrats to Counts and HARDY on the awesome tune!
