Chris Young Releases Emotional New Song Titled “Drowning”

Chris Young Drowning

There are few things more powerful in music than real human emotion. When I think about the songs that have moved me the most in my life, I think about those moments where I could feel the artist’s every word and every emotion. So is the case on Chris Young’s newest release, “Drowning.”

Young premiered the song at the Grand Ole Opry last week and played it a few times during CMA Fest, revealing that the song was inspired by the passing of his best friend. For Young, the Opry performance was an emotional one, and the usually jovial singer broke down during his performance. He took to social media to share his reasons for releasing the song, writing, “Last week, I debuted my new tune “Drowning” at the @opry and broke down in the middle of it… since then so many people have shared stories of loved ones lost and how they have connected to this song. I want you guys to have this one, and make it your own, so I’m going to release it this Friday.”

The song is utterly heartbreaking due to the fact that loss is an emotion everyone can relate to. Co-written by Young, Josh Hoge, and Corey Crowder, Young admits the song was Crowder’s idea and was built off of the line “Missing you comes in waves,” which led to the chorus.

“I can’t help at all but think about it / How you were taken way too soon / It ain’t the same here without you,” Young sings, his voice deep with emotion, “I’ve gotta say, missin’ you comes in waves / And tonight I’m drowning.”

At his CMA Fest fan party, Young admitted that the song’s universal appeal was one of the most interesting things about it. “We wrote it really open ended because everybody in the room was thinking about a different person.” He also revealed that for him, the song was the first about his friend. “When he passed away, I had never really written something about it until this song and I really wanted it to be something special.”

“I know you’re in a better place/ one day I’ll see you again,” Young sings achingly. “But it’s killing me we can’t be face to face/ I miss my best friend.”

Young also revealed on Twitter that “Drowning” is one of his favorite songs on his forthcoming album, due out later this year, and it’s absolutely clear why. With his powerful voice laced with emotion, Young is at his finest on “Drowning.” The song is truly country music at its finest, and we can’t wait to watch it hit #1.

Hannah Bethel Releases Ethereal and Honest “Rhinestone Rodeo”

Hannah Bethel

Rising country artist Hannah Bethel is mesmerizing fans with her angelic voice and creative songwriting ability. The independent artist received praise and accolades for her debut single, “Train” and was recently inducted as one of the newest members of the Song Suffragettes, a group of talented female singer-songwriters in Nashville. She is now hoping to find more success with her new song, “Rhinestone Rodeo” that was released today.

The song is innovative, carefree, and alluring, as Bethel blurs genre lines effortlessly on the track. Her voice is impactful, yet soft, reminiscent of country megastar Kacey Musgraves’ undeniable talent. Proving that she is a force to be reckoned with in the industry, the songstress pushed to write and record this song, as it embodied a message and a story that she wanted to share with the world.

“Everyone’s got stars in their eyes / It’s easy to get blinded by the light / You can’t always hear your heart over the rowdy crowd / But man it’s worth it – took you years to find that sound.”

Co-written by the singer with Farewell Angelina’s Nicole Witt and established singer-songwriter, Tiffany Goss, “Rhinestone Radio” is about Bethel’s journey navigating the highs and lows of the music industry.

She recalls in a recent press release, “I had the title for ‘Rhinestone Rodeo’ for a couple of years before it finally made its way into a song. I wanted it to be a song about my journey of navigating a life in the music business […]. Everyone chasing a dream has a ‘mountain’ to climb. For me, Nashville has been my ‘mountain.’ There have been many seasons during my ten years in Nashville, some beautiful highs and terrible lows, but I am grateful for every experience that has made me stronger, wiser, more certain of who I am as an artist and a human, and more determined than ever to move forward with great joy and optimism in my heart.”

We caught Bethel’s stellar show in NYC last weekend, check out the full recap here. To keep up with her, follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Lauren Davidson Releases “Live Laugh Love”

Lauren Davidson Live Laugh Love

We are all familiar with the quote “Live, Laugh, Love,” but rising country singer Lauren Davidson gives the saying a whole new meaning. Davidson’s first track of 2019 is one you’ll be listening to all summer long.

“Live Laugh Love” is written by Davidson, Jason Harmor and Cristian Castro. The song is not what we are used to hearing from the singer. Her EP “Ballads“ is filled with slower tracks that showcase Davidson’s range, while this track shows the artist’s edgier side as it’s a mix of rock and roll, pop, and country.

The song is completely relatable for anyone who has gone through or going through a breakup and is finally ready to step out and find someone new. Grabbing their girls and heading out for a fun night. We can totally see this one as a perfect pre-game song or blasting it on your way out.

“I’m gonna live, laugh, love, / Get all dolled up / Gonna paint this town red with my lipstick tonight / Ain’t gonna shoot them down / Gonna make my rounds / Tossin’ some back with every guy in sight / I’m gonna live, laugh, love, / And leave ya.”

The singer-songwriter is a Swag Spotlight alum, read her story here and check out our Swag Session with Davidson from last summer below.

To keep up with Davidson follower her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

“Live Laugh Love” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

Ingrid Andress Continues To Impress With Latest Track “Both”

Ingrid Andress Both

Atlantic Records/Warner Music Nashville recording artist, Ingrid Andress has one of the most interesting and refreshing voices in the music industry right now. The singer-songwriter recently released two songs, including “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Lady Like.” The latter, which she sang on her late night TV debut last month. Now, Andress is back with another enticing song simply entitled “Both.”

Written by the songstress with talented songwriters, Derrick Southerland and Jordan Schmidt, “Both” is both a love song and a break-up song. The track depicts the story of not knowing where you stand in a relationship and dealing with those mixed signals. Her artistry shines through as her vocals present as cool and calm while delivering a serious message and ultimatum. The innovative juxtaposition is refreshing and showcases her artistry perfectly. Andress’ unique ability to deliver an airy song that still packs a punch is what makes you want to root for her success.

“You’re blurring the lines / You’re playing two sides / Just make up your mind / You can tell me to stay / You can push me away / Have space or get close / But you can’t do both / You can kiss me goodnight / Or kiss me goodbye / Baby love me or don’t / But you can’t do / You can’t do both.”

As she continues to make a name for herself in an industry that’s male-dominated, we look forward to seeing what she does next. In June, Andress will be performing at the coveted CMA Fest In Nashville. In addition, the songstress will be singing at the Ascend Amphitheater, kicking off Saturday night, June 8th, at the Warner Music Nashville showcase with fellow label-mates, Hunter Hayes, Cody Johnson, Tucker Beathard, and Ashley McBryde. The concert benefits music education initiatives across the United States through the CMA Foundation. For tickets and more information, head to ingridandress.com.

Logan Mize Releases “Thinking About You”

Logan Mize

The independent singer-songwriter Logan Mize is giving us an even more sneak peek of his upcoming EP. His forthcoming new, five-song From The Vault EP was created for his dedicated fans and is due May 17. The tracks are from sessions recorded between 2013-2014 that he thought deserved a chance. He recently just dropped his nostalgic track “Only In This Town” and now we’re seeing a different side of his EP today (5/10) with “Thinking About You.”

“Thinking About You” is written by GRAMMY Album Of The Year Award-winner Daniel Tashian, who co-produced Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour and songwriter Troy Verges who has well-known tracks for Tim McGraw and Little Big Town. Mize credits Daniel Tashian’s demo of the song, adding in a recent press release that, “When I heard Daniel Tashian’s demo of this song, it sounded like it should be a big pop classic from a 1980’s John Hughes film. I took it in the studio with a hodgepodge of session players and road guys, and we just had a blast cutting it.” The track starts off with a guitar throwback feel that makes you wanna turn up the radio and bop your head. The song’s about loving everything about someone and not being able to get them off your mind.

“I’ve been thinking about you / How you walk how you talk / Such a pretty mess I see you dancing in your boots and your black dress / Stone cold you’re so fine / I gotta let you know if you were mine I’d never ever let you go / When you move / When you shake it and you down/ Make my heart beat so loud / You’re too good to be true / Yeah, I’ve been thinking about you”

Mize’s unique and authentic sound with a hint southern-rock and country is what sets him apart from every other artist. He’s setting the bar high for independent artists with his upcoming EP From The Vault. Check out our live session with Logan back in 2018 in the video below. Mize will continue playing his headlining tour, “Better Off Gone Tour” through the beginning of June. For tickets and more tour information, check out his website loganmize.com

Logan Mize Releases Nostalgic “Only In This Town”

Logan Mize

Kansas country artist Logan Mize is a singer-songwriter, who truly cares about his fans. With a fan-driven EP in the works, coming later this year, and his single “Better Off Gone” climbing the charts, the independent artist is keeping fans excited for more music. Mize delivers on another song, releasing “Only In This Town” today (5/3).

The song features Mize’s unique southern-rock vibe and intriguing vocals. Written by the singer with songwriter Casey Beathard, the lyrics are an ode to Mize’s hometown, but can easily make the listener nostalgic for their own hometown. “Only In This Town” is slated to be one of the five tracks off Mize’s upcoming EP, entitled From The Vault. Each song, including this cut, are tracks that the singer-songwriter has played at shows with his road band. The tracks were recorded later.

The performer credits his tour band for helping him record and finish the track, adding in a recent press release that, “It was mostly my touring band, including the late Derek Wyatt, who passed last year. Derek was the #1 reason I felt comfortable in the studio. He was so uplifting and complimentary to all of our playing but you can hear on the track who was bringing the most energy.”

The track fits in perfectly with what is popular in country music right now, while still having a unique flair to it. The song and Mize’s artistry are unapologetically raw, authentic, and special, making it easy to see why he is successfully breaking down barriers as an independent artist.

“They don’t give a damn / Who I think I am / No they hold my feet to my family name / I’m just one of them and that won’t ever change / Only in this town / Does it feel like home.”

The NYCountry Swag Session alum continues playing his headlining tour, ‘Better Off Gone Tour’ through the beginning of June, hitting the midwest area later this week For tickets and more tour information, head to loganmize.com.

Tyler Rich Premieres New Song and Video for “Leave Her Wild”

Tyler Rich "Leave Her Wild" Music Video

Tyler Rich “Leave Her Wild” Music Video

As the clock struck midnight, Valory Music Co. recording artist, Tyler Rich released his first song of the new year, entitled “Leave Her Wild.” With a loyal fanbase behind him, a successful self-titled debut album, which was released in 2018, and a sold-out touring gig with Brett Young on his resume, the singer is primed for an even bigger year in 2019.

Fans may be familiar with Rich’s newly released song, as he’s been performing “Leave Her Wild” live at shows over the past couple of months. The recording artist shared his excitement about the new track, as well as his appreciation for the fans’ support, sharing on his Twitter, “I’m SO beyond excited to finally release this song! The endless messages I’ve gotten from all of you since we started playing this live has meant so much to me. So, Thank you! If this song moves you, then please share it! #LeaveHerWild.”

The lyrically-focused track reminds people to never try to change the person they fell in love with. Rich beautifully articulates the importance of always remembering the little things you loved about your person, and to always allow he or she to stay true to themselves. The song is certainly one for Rich to celebrate.

“If you find a girl / Hands up / Hanging half way out on the highway / You find a girl / Like whiskey / Mixed in a handle of coffee / Find a girl who scares you half to death / You’d kill to be the train she wrecks / Don’t tell her, I never met someone like you / Then try to turn her into every girl you’ve ever knew / If you’re gonna love her / If you’re gonna love her / If you’re gonna love her / Leave her wild”

To elevate the song even more, Rich surprisingly dropped ‘A First Look’ music video to accompany the track. The visuals will put a smile on your face, as the camera flashes to clips of different people, children, and couples living freely, doing whatever they desire. The video ends with the image of Rich smiling ear to ear in the recording booth.

Catch the singer at Taste of Country Music Festival at New York’s Hunter Mountain in June, where NYCountry Swag will also set-up shop for the third year, so make sure to stop by! Additionally, Rich will make a stop at Nashville’s CMA Fest just days later. For tickets and more tour information, head to tylerrich.com

Teddy Robb Releases Somber New Track “Tell Me How”

Teddy Robb, Photo by: Matthew Berinato

Here at NYCountry Swag, we’ve been waiting patiently for Teddy Robb to release his new song “Tell Me How” to the public.  We had the opportunity to hear the 2019 Artist to Watch sing the track back in November when he hosted an intimate evening in Nashville at the Douglas Café with songwriters Ryan Beaver and Heather Morgan.

Unlike his first two singles, “Really Shouldn’t Drink Around You” and “Lead Me On,” “Tell Me How” has a more somber vibe. The singer shares a personal side of himself as the song is about a breakup and how the singer is having a difficult time moving on. Like anyone dealing with heartbreak, he is wondering where his ex is now and playing back what happened for the relationship to end.

“Tell me you’re okay / Tell me you made it through / Tell me you’re over me /  You don’t think about me and you / Tell me you can sleep at night / Tell me your happy now / Tell me you’ve moved on / Then tell me how”

Robb then goes into how he has tried to get over the breakup which included going to church, drinking, going on a date, and going to Mexico. These coping mechanisms are all very relatable, who hasn’t wanted to get away from the real world or try and quickly move on after the end of a relationship?

Overall, the singer-songwriter hopes that his ex is doing better off than he is and if they can share their tips, as he hasn’t figured out just quite how to let go. Whether or not the track is about Robb or a friend, the honest lyrics tug at the heartstrings and teaches us that not everyone gets over a breakup right away and that’s just fine.

To keep up with Teddy Robb, follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
