Mitchell Tenpenny Drops Fan-Favorite Song “To Us It Did”

Mitchell Tenpenny just released a nostalgic new track, “To Us It Did”, available now, April 30th, everywhere you buy or stream music. Tenpenny first teased the track on social media, prompting fans to beg for an official release. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Mitchell Tenpenny has emerged as one of the most promising rising artists in country music right now. His powerful voice, relatable songs, and passion for music are just some of the reasons why we have supported him since the very beginning. Tenpenny has been periodically dropping songs over the past few months, but today he released one of our favorites, a song called “To Us It Did.”

We first heard this song back at the end of 2019, when the singer performed with Seaforth at a sold-out show at Webster Hall in New York City. Written with one of our other favorites, HARDY, “To Us It Did” was an instant crowd favorite. The nostalgic tune uncovers all the memories from our youth that we often think about and miss at times. He harps on the simple times, where having fun was your only objective.

“Our trucks didn’t really go 200 miles an hour // That small town we ran around ain’t suppose to feel that big // Shots of Jack and shoulder pads don’t give you superpowers // Rome don’t ride, dirt don’t shine, time don’t fly, but to us it did”

The intricate details that Tenpenny wove throughout each verse are enough to bring tears of nostalgia to anyone’s eyes. He manages to flood the listeners’ minds with images from simpler times, those years that shaped us into the people we are today.

“To Us It Did” is a must listen too! For more Tenpenny, check out our interview + acoustic session with the rising star from back in December 2019 in the video here.

Mitchell Tenpenny: Neon Christmas – EP Review

Mitchell Tenpenny’s brand new Christmas EP Neon Christmas is available now, October 23rd on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new songs off the special holiday project.

One of our absolute favorite singer-songwriters, Mitchell Tenpenny has one of the most distinct voices in country music. His signature sound has gained him boatloads of fans across the globe. After gifting us with an original Christmas song, “Naughty List” last year, the singer took it a step further showcasing his love for the holiday season a little bit more with a full Christmas EP. Today, Tenpenny released his EP entitled Neon Christmas, which features four incredible covers of some of our favorite holiday classics as well as three original new tunes.

Despite the fact that some of the songs are covers and some are originals, Tenpenny finds a way to make every song feel fresh and new. Renditions of Christmas classics like “O Holy Night” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” remind us how powerful and effortless the singer’s vocals truly are. Both songs showcase his talent in an undeniable way.

The other two covers of songs, “Let It Snow! Let It Snow Let It Snow!” And “Joy to the World” feature a more rock-country element to them. The former could literally be an original Mitchell Tenpenny song. Tenpenny finds a way to make the classic sound brand new, while on “Joy to the World,” the singer delivers a smooth, vibey anthem.

Of course, Tenpenny shines on his original songs. Although many artists try their hand at reimagining Christmas songs, the artist finds a way to deliver three brand new tracks that actually have appeal during the holiday season. Arguably our favorite, the previously released jam, “Naughty List,” is one of Tenpenny’s best. The song reminds us of how it feels to be in love during Christmastime.

“I’m gon’ end up on the naughty list / And Santa’s gonna take back all my gifts / With kisses sweeter than the cookies that we left up by the chimney / Tell me, baby, how could I resist”

The other two originals, “Snow Angels” and the title track, “Neon Christmas” are equally as enticing for different reasons. “Snow Angels” is a romantic and sensual song with an R&B flair. Tenpenny pushes the boundaries on this song in all the right ways. On the other hand, “Neon Christmas” is all about making the best out of a snow delay and having Christmas under the neon lights of a bar. We love the unique visuals that the song evokes.

“We have a neon Christmas, baby don’t you know / Yeah, as long as we’re together it don’t matter where we go / If a cold beer, corner booth, or a I’ve bar stool’s on your wish list / We can have a neon Christmas”

Overall, Neon Christmas might be one of our favorite new holiday records. Tenpenny finds a way to reinvigorate the classics while giving us new jams to play all season long! As the singer said on his social media, “Happy Merry Fuckin Christmas.”

Mitchell Tenpenny Launches Campaign to Raise 10K

Mitchell Tenpenny took to social media today to surprise fans with a new initiative. The singer-songwriter was set to headline his first-ever show at the historic Ryman Auditorium, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, the show will have to be postponed to 10/10/21. In an effort to still make the day special, Tenpenny is launching a special campaign to raise funds and awareness for The 10Penny Fund.

“We are trying to raise $10,000 from this day to 10/10 (October 10th)… $10,000 for The 10Penny Fund,” he reveals. “If we do this, Sarah Cannon (Cancer Institute of HCA Healthcare) is going to double this amount. It’s going to help so many lives and fight cancer and this is very important to me, so let’s go out there and do this right now.”

The 10Penny Fund was started by Tenpenny himself in 2018 inspired by “personal experience and a sincere desire to provide inspiration and support to cancer patients beyond traditional medical treatment.”

To raise the funds by 10/10, Tenpenny will be playing two shows at The Listening Room in Nashville as well as offering a livestream, so fans from all over can safely tune in. In addition, fans will have the option to add a merchandise package to their ticket which includes a specially designed t-shirt that can be personalized to include the name of a loved one who has been affected by cancer. “Mine personally is going to be my dad and I think it’s going to be very cool to see all of these names and heroes on the back of it,” Tenpenny says in the announcement.

Additionally, fans can also add on a virtual meet & greet to get some one-on-one time with the budding star.

Mitchell Tenpenny Flawlessly Covers Luke Combs’ “When It Rains It Pours”

Mitchell Tenpenny Luke Combs

Photo By: Mike Spotz (@illkoncept) for NYCountry Swag

In this weird world without live music, we have been living for the demos and the covers that country music artists have been posting on their social media platforms. Just today, one of our favorites, Mitchell Tenpenny surprised fans with an Instagram clip of him jamming to Luke Combs’ smash hit “When It Rains It Pours”.

Armed with the spot-on caption “There’s a reason they still play this song on the radio @lukecombs because it’s *Fire emoji*,” M10 gives his perfect rendition of the killer tune. True to his distinct vocals, the singer-songwriter manages to turn the track into one that fits his wheelhouse and would fit with all his other jams. We especially love that the singer enjoys singing country music in his car because who doesn’t?!

While Luke Combs continues to break his own records in true superstar fashion, Tenpenny is taking the country world by storm in his own right. The singer already has one number one under his belt with his debut single “Drunk Me” and his new jam, “Broken Up” is headed to country radio next. The sky’s the limit for both these stellar country artists.

As for Combs, don’t miss the upcoming release of his deluxe album, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, out October 23rd. Until we can see Combs or Tenpenny in person, we hope they will continue to post covers and new demos on social media for our amusement.

Mitchell Tenpenny Gets Honest On New Track “Broken Up”

Mitchell Tenpenny Broken Up

We have been championing Mitchell Tenpenny, since before his record deal, before his number one hit, and before his headlining tour, and we are so proud to continue to do so. Tenpenny has made quite the career for himself, while still maintaining his integrity and his own sound. Today, the singer-songwriter released his newest track entitled “Broken Up.”

One of the most intriguing things about Tenpenny is the distinct tone of his voice, which resonates throughout all his music. “Broken Up” has that special quality, where you know, instantly, that it is Tenpenny singing. Lyrically, the song is about a guy who feels that he has made the wrong decision by breaking up with his girlfriend. In a unique twist on a traditional break-up song, Tenpenny finds a way to evoke honesty, pain, and reality by telling the story of the person, who does the breaking up rather than the other way around.

But baby I’m still broken up about it / Yeah, I’ve had it up to here, had enough about it / Maybe I will up about it / Yeah, but only if I drink until I’m drunk about it / I wish that I could say that I’ll be fine / But baby I’m still broken up about it”

The new song follows suit with the likes of tracks from his debut record Telling All My Secrets, but this one elevates Tenpenny’s unique talent and vocals. We suspect that this new single is going to be another big hit with the fans!

Mitchell Tenpenny Covers Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved”

Someone You Loved Mitchell

Mitchell Tenpenny is utilizing his time methodically using isolation to knead his musical adaptations like a handful of other musicians during this time.

The country singer + songwriter has been using his days of peace to live stream on his social media platforms to sing originals, spin cover songs, and answer illuminated questions sent in from fans. Additionally, he recorded a cover of pop sensation Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” as apart of his #TenpennyTuesdays series.

Tenpenny’s rendition compliments the original immensely. It maintains the authentic piano instrumentation commemorating Tenpenny’s mighty vocal competence. The emotional complexity is significant as if the singer + songwriter penned the song himself.

A few weeks ago, Tenpenny provided some comedic relief on his Instagram account sharing the story, “I’ve always been afraid of the unexpected even when I expect it.” The singer then apprehensively makes way to a trash can in his backyard stating, “So, I got this squirrel in my trash can, and I need to put stuff in my trash can, so I just figured I’d film this. I’m probably going to scream.” The video ends precipitously, Tenpenny screams and the squirrel lives happily ever after.

Professionally during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Drunk Me” singer released a feel-good, “driving around with the windows down” single “Here” which followed up the singer’s “Can’t Go To Church.” He was also one of the many artists who was supposed to perform at the Country to Country Festival in the UK but got cut because of the pandemic. He shared on Instagram, “We flew all the way to beautiful London and had to immediately get on another plane and head back to the United States,” he wrote in a post on March 12. “We are flying back now. I can’t express to y’all how excited we were to finally have the opportunity to play your amazing city and to see the amazing country music fans the world has to offer. I promise we will get back as soon as we can! But for now be smart be safe and f— this stupid Corona Virus! Love y’all.”

Mitchell Tenpenny Appreciates Every Moment in “Here”

Here Mitchell Tenpenny

One of our favorite new artists, Mitchell Tenpenny has made his mark on country music over the past several years, releasing tracks full of relatable lyrics and highlighting his signature growly voice. During the uncertain times the world is facing, Tenpenny is back this time with a song that isn’t about love or losing it, rather about making the most of the time we have left, “Here”.

A sweet change of pace for the singer-songwriter, “Here”, an uptempo bop examines the passage of time and how to take each moment and never take a single heartbeat for granted.

“I wanna go too far, I wanna play too hard / I wanna live it up cause I know I only got so many years / I wanna lose myself, in someone else / I wanna feel it all, do everything I wanna, while I’m here”

We can already picture blasting this one while we finally drive around with the windows open, or holding a beer up to cheers our friends during live concert season this summer. If this pandemic can teach us anything it is to truly live each moment fully, appreciate the little moments, and “get that peace of mind thing figured out”.

Tenpenny is joining Jason Aldean on his summer leg of the We Back Tour. For tickets and tour dates click here.
