Luke Combs Releases Brand New Song, “1, 2 Many” Featuring Brooks & Dunn

As always, Luke Combs knows exactly what his fans want…more new music. His sophomore album is slated for release on November 8th but yesterday comes posted on Facebook: “New album isn’t out until Nov. 8, but if this post gets 50K likes, I’ll release the studio version of “1, 2 Many” everywhere THIS Thursday, Sep. 12 at 2 PM ET!”

The honky-tonk inspired drinking song is classic Combs, bringing traditional country music into the modern era. You can already see this one being performed for throngs of fans, all holding up their drinks and shotgunning beers at tailgates. The track was penned by Combs along with Dan Isbell, Drew Parker, and Tyler King and on the studio recorded version, features none other than Brooks & Dunn. Combs first worked with the duo when he was featured on their REBOOT album on “Brand New Man” and he even performed the song on CMT Crossroads live from Nashville during CMAFest.

Ronnie and Kix join the superstar in the last verse, their signature twang finishing out the tune with their old-school flair.

In addition to the new music, Combs surprised fans even further by revealing the title and cover art to his forthcoming sophomore album. Check out all of the details here.

Luke Combs Reveals Sophomore Album in Clues Before Announcement

Fans of Luke Combs will be delighted to hear the news that after a series of cryptic messages, Combs has officially announced that his highly anticipated sophomore album is set for release on November 8th.

Fans first began speculation just last week when Combs took to social media to post a countdown with two simple words “1 Week.”. Followers immediately took to Twitter to tweet their guesses, assuming that the messages could mean either new music or more tour dates. However, upon closer look at Combs’ social activity, even more clues could soon be found. As the days led up to the week-long countdown, Combs began to release mini-episodes on YouTube of outtakes from making the video of his latest single “Beer Never Broke My Heart”. In the very beginning of each episode, a countdown begins. In episode 2, the number 11 flashes at the end of the countdown and in episode 3, the number 11 then 8 flashes, a major clue to the November 8th release date!

Combs’ announcement comes on the heels of quite the upward spiral of success. Recently, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter became the Grand Ole Opry’s newest inductee, a monumental feat for any artist in the country music world. His fall tour is already sold out in major cities and his latest single officially became his sixth consecutive #1 song. The milestone makes Combs the first country music artist in history to have his first six singles reach the top spot.

Back in 2017, NYCountry Swag caught Combs just before his debut single “Hurricane” would top the charts, naming him one of our 2017 Artists to Watch. Months later, seeing him perform at his first New York City show ever sealed the deal and we knew we were in front of a superstar in the making. Take a look back at that show here.

Country Songs for a Rainy Day

You know the feeling: It’s the middle of summer and you’re ready for sunrise, sunset, sunburn, repeat. However, sometimes the weather has other ideas and the skies are gray. While you’d like to believe that “rain is a good thing,” it’s not always the easiest mindset when your pool parties and barbecues are getting rained out. Thankfully, country music has a song for everything, including those rainy days.

Here are some of our favorite songs about rain…

1. Gary Allan: “Songs About Rain”

On Gary Allan’s 2013 single, he drowns his sorrows over a lost love in a sad playlist featuring none other than songs about rain. “Today I heard you got a new last name,” He sings mournfully. “Sure didn’t know it was gonna hit me this way/ And the radio just keeps on playing all these songs about rain.” Allan is in a bad mood here and the radio is just matching his disposition as he reflects on losing the woman he loves. He names a few specific songs in the lyrics, including “Rainy Night in Georgia” and “Kentucky Rain” as he deals with his sadness. “I hope it’s sunny wherever you are/ But that sure ain’t the picture tonight in my car.” Ouch.

2. Luke Bryan: “Rain Is a Good Thing”

While for some of us, rain is a bad thing, Luke Bryan somehow manages to take positive position on condensation. On the 2009 track from Doin’ My Thing, Bryan is ready to look at rain from a scientific standpoint, singing about how rain is simply a necessary part of life. According to Bryan’s “country science,” without rain, we wouldn’t have corn or whiskey or women who feel just a bit frisky. In what has become one of Bryan’s most iconic lyrics, he sings. “Rain makes corn/ Corn makes whiskey / Whiskey makes my baby / Feel a little frisky.”

3. Jo Dee Messina: “Bring On the Rain”

With one of the most powerfully underrated voices and catalogs in all of country music, Jo Dee Messina really gets us in the feels with her 2000 single, “Bring On the Rain.” Featuring Tim McGraw on background vocals, the song is about looking forward to tomorrow. Today may have been terrible, but there’s always another day to turn things around. “Another day has almost come and gone/ Can’t imagine what else could go wrong/ Sometimes I’d like to hideaway/ Somewhere and lock the door/ A single battle lost but not the war/ ‘Cause tomorrow’s another day/ And I’m thirsty anyway/ So bring on the rain.” On the ballad, Messina is ready for what life throws at her, and the message is one we could all stand to hear from time. “I’m not gonna let it get me down/ I’m not gonna cry/ And I’m not gonna lose any sleep tonight/ ‘Cause tomorrow’s another day/ And I am not afraid/ So bring on the rain.”

4. David Nail: “Let It Rain”

Speaking of underrated artists, it would be impossible not to mention David Nail. With his powerful voice and clever turn of phrase, he brings the story of a regretful cheater to life on “Let It Rain.” Inspired by the Zach Braff movie, The Last Kiss, “Let It Rain,” tells the story of a man who cheats on his girlfriend, who then throws him out in a storm. The song boasts the powerful lyric that truly encapsulates the story of the song, “No seven years of good/ can’t hide the one night I forgot to wear that ring.”

As for the rain, it’s abundant here as Nail proclaims, “So let it rain, let it pour, if she don’t love me anymore/ Just let it come down on me, let it come down on me, Every word, let it hurt, even more than I deserve/ Let it come down on me, let it come down on me, let it rain”

5. Keith Urban: “Raining on Sunday”

For Keith Urban, a rainy Sunday is the perfect excuse to do nothing but stay in bed with someone special. In “Raining on Sunday,” Urban prays for a chance to take a day off from real lift to just hide out and enjoy a day indoors. “Love could use a day of rest/ Before we both start falling apart,” He sings here, and we’re picking up what he’s putting down. This relationship needs a timeout and rainy day is just the thing to allow it to happen. “Let the water wash our bodies clean/ And love wash our souls.”

6. Tim McGraw: “She’s My Kind of Rain”

On “She’s My Kind of Rain,” Tim McGraw celebrates all that can be beautiful about rain, comparing the woman he loves to it. It’s a simple yet beautiful message, and with McGraw comparing someone to rain, what’s there to hate? Frankly, he could be singing “She’s My Kind of Mold,” and it would be oddly endearing. Here, however, it’s a little more refreshing and a little more poetic, as he sings, “She’s my kind of rain/ Like love from a drunken sky / Confetti falling down all night / She’s my kind of rain.”

Bonus – Luke Combs: “When It Rains It Pours”

In most cases, the old adage of “when it rains it pours” applies to negative situations. However, Luke Combs puts a clever and humorous take on the saying here, revealing all of the good things that happened to him once he was dumped. While the song may not technically be about rain, we couldn’t leave it off, because it’s a great song with rain in the title.

“Then I won a hundred bucks on a scratch off ticket,” Combs reveals before announcing, “I was caller number five on a radio station, won a four-day, three-night, beach vacation/ Deep sea, senorita, fishing down in Panama/ And I ain’t gotta see my ex future mother-in-law anymore/ Oh lord, when it rains it pours.” Combs also goes on to win a round of golf and get a number from the Hooter’s waitress, all which he credits to his ex walking out. Now, this is the kind of “rain” we can get behind.

Luke Combs Accomplishes Another Monumental Feat

The Grand Ole Opry’s newest inductee, Luke Combs can truly do no wrong. His sophomore record is in the works and his fall tour is already sold out in major cities. To top it off this week his latest single, “Beer Never Broke My Heart” officially hit the number one spot on the charts.

Combs released the track along with five other songs on his EP entitled The Prequel back in June. This marks Combs’ sixth consecutive number one single on country radio. His last five singles, including “Hurricane,” “When It Rains It Pours,” “She’s Got the Best of Me,” “One Number Away,” and “Beautiful Crazy” all reached the number one position on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, and his debut album, This One’s for You went number one, just before being certified double platinum.

If that isn’t enough to be proud, Combs is the first country artist in history whose first six singles reached the top spot. Like the rest of his singles, “Beer Never Broke My Heart” will also most likely go certified platinum as well.

We knew Combs was special ever since 2017 when we named him one of our 2017 Artists to Watch, shortly after seeing him perform at his first New York City show ever. Take a look back at that show here.

There’s truly no stopping the hitmaker! Catch him on tour this fall with fellow singer-songwriter, Morgan Wallen on his ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ Tour. For tickets and more information head to lukecombs.com. Check out our post here to read about, when Combs brought his headlining tour to a sold-out crowd at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom back in March.

Luke Combs Lends His Voice to the Angry Birds Soundtrack with “Let’s Just Be Friends”

Luke Combs Angry Birds

Luke Combs has truly been spoiling his fans. In June, he released his stellar EP, The Prequel, and has since been releasing other unreleased songs via social media. Today (August 2), the rising superstar released “Let’s Just Be Friends,” a track from the forthcoming The Angry Birds Movie 2.

On the uptempo and inspiring track, Combs plays the role of a peacemaker, inviting those with different opinions to put aside their differences and “just be friends.” According to information for The Angry Birds Movie 2, the track seems to perfectly sum up the plot of the film. In it, some of the angry birds are “surprised when a green pig suggests that they put aside their differences and unite to fight a common threat.”

On the track, Combs suggests the same. “You got the rock and I got the roll/ You got the heart and I got the soul,” He sings, realizing that two personalities can actually work together in a complementary manner. “Yeah we’re pretty good alone/ But I bet that together/ We could make some noise/ This town would talk about forever.”

“You’re big city and I’m small town/ The best of both worlds/ Is what it sounds like / Let’s just be friends,” Combs sings on the uplifting track, and we can basically guarantee you’ll be singing along by the end. Combs isn’t the first country star to contribute to an animated film, as earlier this year Blake Shelton released “Wallflowers and Weeds” on the Ugly Dolls Soundtrack, while Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts have lent their music to the soundtracks for Disney’s Cars films.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 will hit theaters on August 14, featuring characters voiced by Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Sterling K. Brown, Pete Davidson, Bill Hader and many more of Hollywood’s biggest names.

NYCS Woman of the Month Jessica Valiyi, Digital Strategy for Sony Music Nashville

We’re bringing you stories from women who are chasing their dreams and building a life that they love with New York Country Swag’s, “Woman of the Month.”

Each month, we highlight a different female pursuing her passions. Introducing you to women who are taking risks, working relentlessly and turning their dreams into reality. These are empowering women who serve as role models and should be celebrated.

Jess Valiyi

For this month we celebrate Jessica Valiyi, Associate Director, Digital Strategy for Sony Music Nashville. Growing up in Carmel, Indiana, she recalls all of her extracurricular activities outside of school revolved around music. She learned to play the drums when she was 10 years old and said she was a music fanatic in high school, although, she wasn’t a huge fan of country music until college. “I’m the oldest child, I didn’t have a big sibling or anyone to talk to but I felt like music was always there for me,” she says. While attending college at Indiana University in Bloomington, Valiyi’s friends she met on her dorm room floor freshman year introduced her to modern country and she instantly fell in love with the lyrics and storytelling. Some of her first favorite artists were Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, and the Dixie Chicks.  “I remember listening to the lyrics, and that is what drew me in, they have substance and meaning compared to anyone else I was listening to at the time,” she recalls. After college, she took a job in biotech and medical device company and worked part-time at the local country radio station doing promotions and marketing and helped with their social media. “I feel like there are two types of people in this world, you are either motivated by money or you are motivated by passion and I am the passionate one,” she states. Finding herself looking forward more and more to her side gig at the radio station, she happened to meet Alex Valentine who at the time worked the Northeast promotions for Big Machine Label Group. After talking to him about how she could ‘do what he does’ in the industry, she took that information and chance meeting to heart and a year later made the move to Nashville. Valentine gave her words of advice that she carries with her today, “You have to be present to win”.

Jessica Valiyi Woman of the Month

Mitchell Tenpenny at Wal Mart on the night of his debut album release

Just two months after moving, she took her dream job, a part-time gig with Big Machine Label Group, home to Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts, the two artists that helped to cultivate her love for the genre. One of her mains jobs was to help the digital team and assist in keeping Swift’s music off the internet and mainly off of YouTube. She laughs talking about all of the tweets she saved from fans who would try to find her music and couldn’t without buying the actual album, something that proved she was successful in that task.

In December of 2017, she made the move over to Sony Music Nashville and during our conversation, recalls a moment that really has come full circle since moving over to her new position. “The first week I lived in Nashville I went Belcourt Taps. It was Heather Morgan, Jimmy Robbins, Laura Veltz, and Maren Morris and it was my first writers round and I remember thinking ‘Why isn’t this girl an artist?’ I went up to her after and told her how incredible her voice and songs were. Most off her EP and one other song called ‘Loose Change’” Valiyi recalls “I was following Maren’s career when I was at Big Machine and I remember being so bummed that she went to Sony but now it’s just full circle.” The moment becomes even more poignant this week that the Sony Music Nashville team gets to celebrate Morris’ second number one song, “GIRL”.

Jessica Valiyi

Maren Morris and Sony Music Nashville Team

Her day to day jobs as the Associate Director of Digital Strategy for Sony Music Nashville include helping her artists on fan engagement, email marketing, websites, digital advertising, coming up with creative content, collaborating with digital partners and essentially anything directly related to helping grow the fan base. Her clients at Sony include Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert, Luke Combs, Old Dominion, Mitchell Tenpenny, Pistol Annies, Tenille Townes, Jameson Rodgers, The Sisterhood Band, and Ryan Hurd. “One thing that drew me to digital is the space is constantly changing. You really have to be one step ahead of everyone, finding out what the newest, coolest, greatest thing is,” Valiyi says. “You don’t just use specific things because everyone uses it, it has to make sense for your individual clients. It’s trying to keep up with the trends and how to incorporate them with our artists.”

Jessica Valiyi

Team Sony Music Nashville at Luke Combs’ Grand Ole Opry Induction

She passionately talks about the fans and how there would be no country music industry without them and how she loves that the digital space is the department that is closest to the fan. One artist she highlights in our interview is Luke Combs. “Luke Combs is so dialed in, everything he does is for the fans, he says ‘They are the ones who are providing me this life and this career’, that’s why I love working for him. Yes, my job is social media, yes my job is in the digital space and content but it’s also listening to fans.” An example of how Combs continues to give the fans exactly what they want by uploading unedited videos of unreleased songs.

When we talk about what advice she would give to young people in the industry she says, “Our industry is so small, networking is huge. The more you are around and people can see you and see what you do, I feel like that goes a long way, every opportunity I’ve gotten in Nashville has come from someone I’ve networked with.” She also highlights the importance of accepting that you won’t know everything and not being afraid to ask questions or to learn from others around you. She quotes Steve Jobs saying “I don’t care about being right. I care about success and doing the right thing.” as something she refers to often. She hopes to empower the people who work with her but when she is in a leadership role, she is the first one to also listen and learn from them as well.

We are so grateful for all of the women who not only take time out of their busy schedules to chat with us but also teach us their stories and share advice with us. We want to thank Jess Valiyi for her guidance and friendship to NYCountry Swag over the past few years and we look forward to continue to champion her and her incredible artists.

NYCS First Impression Luke Combs ‘The Prequel – EP’

Luke Combs The Prequel

With his unassuming presence and every-man attitude, Luke Combs has captured the hearts of country music fans in a way that’s rarely seen nowadays. Rather than relying on glitz and glam, Combs has earned his legion of tried and true followers by staying true to his country roots and releasing great music. As the follow up to 2017’s This One’s For You, Combs’ released The Prequel – EP today (June 7), featuring 5 new songs, including the project’s first single, the anthemic “Beer Never Broke My Heart.”

Aside from “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” The Prequel’s two other standout tracks are “Refrigerator Door” and “Even Though I’m Leaving.” The former is a celebration of nostalgia and life’s best days while “Even Though I’m Leaving” is a heartstrings-tugging ode to the relationship between a father and a son. On “Refrigerator Door,” Combs executes such a simple concept expertly, celebrating life through the contents of a refrigerator door. “With all those pictures hanging side by side / Forgotten memories from another time/ And all the places that I’ve been before/ A couple magnets, recipes, and Polaroids / Yeah, but that’s my life on the ‘frigerator door.”

“Even Though I’m Leaving” is the chill-inducing moment of the EP, taking listeners on a journey through a father and son’s special relationship. It starts with monsters under the bed then moves to the son leaving for the military, ultimately ending with the father’s passing. The message here is clear on the simple yet intense chorus, as Combs sings, “Even though I’m leaving, I ain’t going nowhere.”

What Combs does best is on full display on this EP, weaving powerful lyrics over anthemic country music. He takes us through a wide range of emotions including nostalgia, love, and loss. Not to be missed are “Moon Over Mexico,” a slow jam that celebrates a magical moment in Mexico, and “Lovin’ On You,” where Combs brings the party to the exciting buzz that comes from new love.

When it comes to modern country, many new acts are more style than substance, but Luke Combs is truly an exception. He shines by simply releasing solid songs with an unmatched voice. The Prequel is a perfect example of that and is truly just another step towards his superstardom.

Combs will hit Long Island’s Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall next week for an acoustic show with Hunter Hayes, Gone West, and Aaron Goodvin.

To keep up with Luke Combs, follow him on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook.

Luke Combs Performs “Beer Never Broke My Heart” On Jimmy Fallon

To celebrate the latest release of his new song, Luke Combs took on New York City to promote his long-anticipated new single. Combs performed his new single “Beer Never Broke my Heart” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night making the song’s television debut.

Just before Combs took the stage, Fallon introduced Combs with “Oh you’re going to love this song! Here with the TV debut of his new single “Beer Never Broke My Heart” give it up for Luke Combs.”

The backdrop perfectly displayed Combs’ new music video for this single. The red-steamy background was in full effect. Starting off the song with his raspy, old-school country powerful voice, Combs gave the fans even more reason to keep listening as if we didn’t have it on repeat already. For his fashion sense, Combs sticks to his roots with wearing what he knows, representing Appalachian State. His stage presence and feel of the song makes you believe every word and this track is nothing but a future hit for the rising superstar.

After the performance was over, Fallon came out on stage overjoyed. As the audience applauded and cheered, Fallon said, “That’s what I’m talking about! Thank you, buddy. Fantastic! Loved It. Luke Combs! “Beer Never Broke My Heart” is out now.” Combs just playing this track back last January, to it going viral on Facebook, to now performing it on live television, the wait is finally over where we can enjoy the song live and studio version.

To keep up with Luke Combs follow them on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

“Thinking About You” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our New Country music playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

You can catch Luke Combs on his  ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ headlining tour through December, and just announced Morgan Wallen will open for him. For tickets and more information check out lukecombs.com.
