Jon Pardi’s new project, Honkytonk Hollywood is out now, April 11th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.
Since bursting onto the country music scene over a decade ago with songs like “Missin’ You Crazy” and “What I Can’t Put Down,” Jon Pardi has always forged his own path in the genre. Now, with the release of his fifth full-length album, Honkytonk Hollywood, Pardi continues to do just that.
For the California native, the 17-track collection represents a slightly different side of the acclaimed singer-songwriter as he dabbles in new sounds and styles. Produced by the legendary Jay Joyce and recorded with his touring band, the Capitol Records Nashville offering features eight tracks co-written by Pardi along with the likes of Jackson Dean, Ryan Hurd, Hailey Whitters, Seth Ennis, Hillary Lindsey, Luke Laird, and more. The result is a unique mix of traditional country paired with hints of rock and roll, blues, and even a bit of pop soul.
“All my albums have been rock and roll with a country flare—this one keeps on rockin’,” Pardi explains. “It’s also the most grown-up record I’ve ever made, all my soul basically. Honkytonk Hollywood is for the Nashville that’s in my blood and it’s also a nod to my California roots. And right now, more than ever, I hope it’s a way to honor and lift up the people of my home state.”
While Pardi’s home state of California lends its influences to Honkytonk Hollywood, the album is definitely more Nashville than Los Angeles. This is evidenced immediately by the one-two punch of the album’s opening tracks: “Boots Off” and “Friday Night Heartbreaker.” “Boots” kicks things off with an explosive and ear-grabbing flirty stomp that uses playful instrumentation to compliment the sexy lyrics, followed immediately by “Friday Night Heartbreaker,” which pairs a soulful bass line and sultry melody.
“Ooh, she’ll get you hypnotized // Leave you victimized // She’s a Friday night heartbreaker // Ooh, she’ll get you with them eyes // Devil in disguise // She’s a Friday night heartbreaker // Hellraiser, game player // Better do yourself a favor”
Much like “Boots Off,” Pardi doubles down on the romance on songs like “Last Call Thing,” “Rush” and “Love the Lights Out.” The latter pairs sizzling slide guitars with seductive lyrics, while “Rush” is a 90’s-alt-leaning rock country song about the buzz of new love. It allows Pardi to dabble in a different style that works incredibly well with his unique vocal styling.
He dabbles in the sounds of Laurel Canyon on “Hey California,” which finds him downtrodden after losing his love to the Golden State. “Tell me why your sunshine went and stole mine away from me?” He asks longingly.
“She Drives Away” is the immediate standout on the album, a lush tearjerker of a song that pairs buoyant instrumentation with a heart melting lyrical tale of the full circle patterns of life. Here, Pardi transitions from being a kid taking a daddy’s girl on a date to being a father watching his own little girl leave on her first date.
“She drives away and he’s scared to death // You hold the wheel, he holds his breath // You ain’t thinking ’bout it, thinking how it feels like yesterday // He drove her home, now she drives away”
The “Dirt On My Boots” singer continues down a storyteller path on songs like “Hard Knocks,” ‘Gamblin’ Man” and “He Went to Work.” On “Gamblin’ Man,” he warns a woman not to gamble her heart away with someone who can’t quit his vices, while “He Went to Work” celebrates the fathers of the world and the sacrifice they made for their families. “Hard Knocks” is a blistering and catchy rocker, allowing Pardi to flex his unique growl on the triumphant tale.
“I come from the school of hard knocks // The one my dad and his dad and his daddy taught // I learned early that you better learn fast // How to get back up when life knocks you flat on your back // And you don’t back down // When the going gets tough // You ask for some more // When you had enough // When fear is a cold steel hammer that drops You answer the door anytime hard knocks”
The album’s glittering title track tells of a woman who’s equal parts city and country, “She’s a little sunset, she’s a little neon,” he muses about the girl who “fell in love with the singer in a band.”
“She’s my blue-eyed blue jean baby // Kinda California crazy // My dance floor diamond shining like the stars on Rodeo // Kinda country, kinda city // She’s West Coast down home pretty // Got no business looking that damn good // Honkytonk Hollywood”
While Pardi can throw down a two-stepper with the best of them, he shines on ballads like “Don’t You Wanna Know,” “Bar Room Blue,” “Nice Place to Visit” and “She Gets to Drinking.” “Nice Place” is an introspective and soulful piano ballad that finds him grappling with his demons as a ramblin’ man, musing, “I’m a nice place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to stay.” Meanwhile, “She Gets to Drinking” is a swinging ballad about a woman who lets her guard down after a heartbreak and a few drinks.
“When she gets to drinking // Her hair starts falling // When she gets to dancing // Last call ain’t ever calling // She gets every head spinning from the buzz she’s getting // She puts the stars under the neon moon // When she gets to drinking, she gets me drinking too”
The album’s penultimate track, “Who I Don’t Want to Be” is a building and almost anthemic confessional that finds him admitting his sins, acknowledging his mistakes, and looking at being a better man. It’s followed immediately by the album’s closing track, the funky “Kinda Wanna Keep It That Way,” an embrace of authenticity and not changing for anyone.
On Honkytonk Hollywood, Jon Pardi does just that. “We did what we wanted, and it stands out because of it,” he reveals in a statement. “Taking the chance paid off, and I kind of want to keep it that way.”

We chatted with country singer, Jon Pardi about his new album, Honkytonk Hollywood, out Friday, April 11th. Here are five things to expect from the upcoming project.
Honkytonk Hollywood is Jon Pardi’s most “grown-up” album to date, but it’s still a fun ‘Pardi’ vibe fans want.
“There’s less drinking and partying, but there’s still drinking and partying. I guess I have kids and starting a family, and just finding songs that I can relate to a little bit more and feel a little bit more is what this album is. It’s just a different chapter of my life.”
One more of the more emotion songs on the project, “She Drives Away” speaks to Pardi’s role a girl dad.
“I feel like that moment at CRS at The Ryman, was the first time we really played it. […] I think the emotional part of that was that we had this really great song that talks about being a dad, from asking your wife’s dad to marry her to having your own daughter, it’s a full circle song. […] That’s a song that I wish I wrote. Every song that I record is a song that I wish I wrote.”
The record as a whole is a little bit more rock than past Jon Pardi albums.
“I always try to have the best song on my record. I think sonically, it’s going to have a little more grit. It has a different mix and it’s a little more in your face. The vocals are just there. […] I think that’s what you’re going to hear on this record. The other records were more polished in comparison to this record. That’s where the rock n roll comes in.”
The last song on the project, “Kinda Wanna Keep It That Way” is a true testament to Pardi’s talent and what to expect from future music.
“I just think it’s staying true to yourself and being who you are. It talks about making mistakes. It’s just a fun song. It’s just a cool way to end an album. […] It just delivered that stamp of keep doing you and don’t be afraid to do something different on this album. It also sets the tone for the next record and what’s to come.”
Fans can catch some of the new songs on Pardi’s new tour coming to a city near you!
“I’m looking forward to playing new songs on tour. […] We have like five new songs that we’re starting off with playing on the new tour.”

Jon Pardi hits the number one spot on the country radio chart this week with his current single, “Your Heart Or Mine.” Learn more here…
Jon Pardi is synonymous with good old traditional, country fun. He always puts on an entertaining live show, and he looks genuinely happy to be a country music entertainer. In his blossoming career, Pardi has already landed five number one singles, including one as a featured artist. Today, the singer adds another number one at country radio to his belt with his single, “Your Heart Or Mine.”
The hard-hitting single is one of the best in Pardi’s catalog of hits. “Your Heart Or Mine,” off of his latest album Mr. Saturday Night, was an instant fan-favorite. Written by Justin Ebach, John Pierce and Bart Butler, “Your Heart Or Mine” is all about the push and pull in a relationship. It feels like a throwback to old school country and soul songs, which is a sweet spot for Pardi.
“Every one is the first last time // Walk away then we hit rewind // A little touch, a little buzz // Don’t know what keeps keepin’ it up // Is it your heart or mine? // Is it whiskey or wine? // Is it somethin’ in the night // Makin’ us wanna cross that line? // Girl, we’re playin’ with fire // Love ain’t too far behind // It’s just a matter of time ’til it finds // Your heart or mine”
A huge congratulations goes out to Jon Pardi and his team on landing their sixth number one single!

Jon Pardi’s brand new album, Mr. Saturday Nightis out now, September 2nd on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.
The best thing about Jon Pardi is that he’s unapologetically himself. The Capitol Records Nashville singer has never been one to chase trends or release music that isn’t true to his authentic country sound, which continues on his new album, Mr. Saturday Night, out now.
For the California native, his fourth full-length album represents the type of albums he grew up on, influenced by trailblazers like George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Keith Whitley, and Buck Owens. This isn’t an album meant to be a flash in the pan, but instead, something to be listened to over and over, discovering new nuances and intricacies with each listen.
On Mr. Saturday Night, Pardi is much more than just a cowboy hat singing party anthems. Instead, he delves much deeper, both lyrically and musically, mixing the best of stirring ballads with dance floor ditties.
Produced by Pardi, Bart Butler, and Ryan Gore, there’s no autotune or drum tracks on Mr. Saturday Night. Opening with the title track, the tone is immediately set with a lyrically sad song hidden within what may initially seem like a simple fun tune. “I feel like everybody wants to be Mr. Saturday Night at one point on the weekend and have a good time,” shares Pardi in a statement. “But then you hear the song and – the way it’s so well written – it’s a sad song, but you don’t go there right away, because it’s also a fun song. That’s the thing about ‘Mr. Saturday Night,’ it’s more than meets the eye. It’s all fun until you get to the chorus.”
Like the clever lyrical contradiction of the album opener, other titles that may catch listeners off guard are the final two tracks, “Smokin’ a Doobie” and “Reverse Cowgirl.” Of the former, Pardi reveals, “We had rented a house and watched this crew member kinda slipping down to the banks of the river, just grabbing a moment and firing up. Rhett (Akins) out of nowhere started singing ‘Smokin’ a doobie on the Guadalupe…’ The song fell out! I don’t think it was 40 minutes before we were done.”
Meanwhile, Pardi admits that when he was initially sent the track “Reverse Cowgirl” he refused to listen to it because of its questionable name. However, after one listen, he was hooked. “I played it as a joke. One listen in, we couldn’t stop listening! The girls loved it…,” He says of the song that enlists the effervescent Sarah Buxton on background vocals and Jenee Fleenor on fiddle. “It’s romantic, but it puts a smile on your face; makes you happy, sad, laugh, all at once. Plus, when you hear that fiddle, you’re right back to Strait in the ‘90s.”
Songs like “Longneck Way to Go,” “Fill ‘Er Up,” “New Place to Drink,” and “Workin’ On a New One” are amongst the twangy, two-steppable drinking songs on the album. Yet, none sound like anything that’s on radio, each pairing Pardi’s recognizable drawl with classic country instrumentation of drawling banjos and slide guitars.
“Fill ‘Er Up” features slide guitars and chaotic country keys as Pardi is “chasing that good time with all my rowdy friends” before ending the song with a very Elvis-like “thank you.” Meanwhile, “Workin’ On a New One” has him well on his way to yet another hangover. “I swore my last hangover was my last hangover,” He drawls. “But I’m workin’ on a new one tonight.”
Meanwhile, “Santa Cruz” and “Neon Light Speed” are more breezy love songs. The latter finds him falling in love on the dance floor, while “New Place to Drink” finds him in search of a new bar to get away from a woman who broke his heart.
The current chart climber, “Last Night Lonely” is a clear standout, as is the gritty “Your Heart or Mine.” Here, he finds himself in a gasoline and matches type of relationship that both swear “ain’t love.”
“Is it your heart or mine? // Is it whiskey or wine? // Is it something in the night making us // Want to cross that line? // Girl we’re playing with fire // Love ain’t too far behind // It’s just a matter of time // ‘Til it finds // Your heart or mine”
Pardi shows his softer side on “Raincheck,” “Hung the Moon,” and “The Day I Stop Dancing,” each offering a different perspective on love. On “Raincheck,” he’s trying to move on with someone new, but isn’t quite ready, crooning, “Tonight I just want a whiskey // And sit here alone // Flip through the pictures of the memories on my phone // And jukebox some Whitley // ‘Til the lights come on // You look so right // But girl it feels so wrong // I thought I could show up // Get drunk // Get this heartbreak gone // But tonight I need a raincheck on movin’ on”
On the flip side, both “The Day I Stop Dancing” and “Hung the Moon” are more straightforward love songs. On the former, he promises never to stop dancing with someone he loves, while the latter finds Pardi grappling with his outlaw side in the eyes of a woman who loves him anyway. “I never thought I’d meet an angel // That could slow down this heart of a rolling stone // Yeah I’ve made mistakes // Done everything under the sun a man can do // Yeah but she still thinks I hung the moon.”
For Jon Pardi, Mr. Saturday Night is the perfect continuation of an already stellar body of work. Both lyrically and instrumentally, the collection elevates Pardi as an artist and is his most cohesive and timeless offering yet.

Today, the singer adds another number one at country radio to his belt with his single, “Last Night Lonely.”
The swoon-worthy song is all about intentionally trying to meet the love of your life. It is one of those songs that puts hope in your heart and an excitement in your stomach. Pardi is the perfect person to sing a song like this, as he knows a thing or two about finding the love of your life. “Last Night Lonely” is a great representation of the type of music the singer makes and will continue to make.
“It’s gonna be the last night comin’ in here, drinkin’ all by yourself // The last time givin’ your heart away to someone else // Yeah, we could be some history in the makin’, girl // Tonight, might be your last night lonely // It could be your last night lonely”

Jon Pardi’s new single, “Last Night Lonely” is out now, February 17th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.
In terms of new music releases, country traditionalist, Jon Pardi has been very quiet throughout the pandemic. After the release of his third album, Heartache Medication in the fall of 2019, he took an extended break from recording new songs. Pardi has worked on a few side projects during that time, including a cover album of classic country hits titled Rancho Fiesta Sessions, a feature on Lauren Alaina’s “Getting Over Him” and HARDY’s Hixtape Vol. 2 on “In Love With My Problems,” and a co-write on a Dillon Carmichael song, “Man Made a Bar.” Now, “Last Night Lonely” will begin the fourth chapter of Pardi’s already successful career.
Sonically, like most Jon Pardi songs, it has plenty of traditional country elements. Lyrically, it shares a similar theme to Cole Swindell’s “Single Saturday Night,” with the main difference being the intention of the man. In Swindell’s story, the man did not plan to meet his forever match that night, it just kind of happened. In Pardi’s story, the man goes up to the woman hoping it leads to a future wedding.
“It could be your last night coming in here, drinking all by yourself // The last time giving your heart away to someone else // Yeah, we could be some history in the making girl, tonight // Might be your last night lonely”
Pardi’s Heartache Medication was nominated for an ACM and CMA in 2020. His third and most recent single off that album, “Tequila Little Time,” peaked at number 5 on the country airplay charts. He has a few tour dates scheduled this spring/summer. For tickets, head to jonpardi.com.

Jon Pardi’s Heartache Medication (Deluxe Version) is available now, October 2nd, and includes two brand new songs. Check out our review below as we dig a little deeper.
Jon Pardi Heartache Medication (Deluxe Version)
Singer-songwriter and country traditionalist, Jon Pardi released the deluxe edition of his third studio album, Heartache Medication today (October 2nd). It contains the fourteen songs on the original, the reimagined “Ain’t Always the Cowboy,” and two brand new tracks, “Bar Downtown” and “Beer Light.”
Pardi released “Ain’t Always the Cowboy (Western Version)” on August 28th. The new adaptation of this ballad is noticeably slowed down in the beginning to better capture the heartbreak of this now lone cowboy. Now the track is a little more produced, but still includes fiddle, steel guitar and other elements of neotraditional country that Pardi brings to mainstream radio.
“Bar Downtown” is a catchy tune about a guy at bar dwelling on his past relationship. He is hopeful that his ex is doing the same thing he is doing now–waiting for the other to walk through the door–just at a different bar. The songwriting on this track is excellent, using a lot of repetition and different rhyme schemes any English teacher would appreciate.
In the second verse, Pardi sings “Are you acting like I’m acting just acting like it’s all alright? Are you going to different places just trying to find my face and wearing every crown? Or have you come to the conclusion that this ‘over-us’ solution just ain’t working out?”
This creativity is shown in the chorus as well: “Are you somewhere in a bar downtown, thinking about me, baby? Drinking about me, baby? / Am I heavy on your heart right now? Like you were all mine wishing we could rewind just a little?”
“Beer Light” is also about using a bar to get over a woman, but in a much gloomier tone. Whiskey is not the right alcohol for this kind of breakup because “her leaving burned enough.” However, the worst of it is behind him so the singer leans on light beer to fill-in the cracks of his broken heart.
“When I start thinking about the past nothing gets me past it like sitting right here sipping / Light beer needs an old beer light”
Heartache Medication did well on the charts upon its release last year on September 27th 2019, debuting at number two and number eleven on the Top Country Albums and Billboard 200 charts, respectively. It is up for Album of the Year at the 2020 CMA Awards and also received an ACM nomination, but lost to Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get. Its lead single and the title track, “Heartache Medication,” reached number one, making it Pardi’s third chart-topping hit.

Country fans first heard the duet of Lauren Alaina and Jon Pardi when she joined him for “Don’t Blame it on Whiskey,” the ballad on Pardi’s third studio album, Heartache Medication. Pardi has returned the favor and features on Alaina’s newest song “Getting Over Him,” which will also serve as the name of her upcoming Extended Play, out September 4th.
Written by Alaina, Paul DiGiovanni, and Emily Weisbland (writers on Sam Hunt’s “Sinning With You”), “Getting Over Him” is a fun track about a girl who has just gone through a breakup and is now looking for a way to get over it. The male in the song has a reputation of being a one-night, no-strings-attached guy, which is exactly what she is looking for. He gladly accepts her drunken invitation for a fun night out on the town.
Hot like a match, it burned out fast / Forever wasn’t in our eyes / You knew it and I knew it / And it was a damn good time / My last call, first call, no falling / Just my getting over you guy
This will be Alaina’s second EP of 2020; Getting Good was just released in March. Getting Over Him will contain six tracks, including the ambitious “Run” and a duet with the “7 Years” singer, Lukas Graham. As for Pardi, he just released The Rancho Fiesta Sessions, in which he covers eight classic songs from all genres including “The Bottle Let Me Down” by Merle Haggard, “The Waiting” by Tom Petty, “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Prince and more!

Singer-songwriter, Jon Pardi celebrated the release of his third studio album, Heartache Medication with a show at the historic Hammerstein Ballroom in the heart of New York City on Friday night. The 2017 CMA New Artist of the Year brought along fellow California-native and good friend, Tyler Rich.
As the floor was filling in for Jon Pardi, Tyler Rich entertained the crowd with a mix of tracks from his 2015 EP Valerie, his 2019 self-titled EP, unreleased songs and a variety of covers. Rich expressed that he has been to this venue before to see some of his favorite artists but there was no cooler feeling than performing on stage. He sandwiched a cover of Halsey’s “Without Me” in between his songs “11:11” and “Adrenaline” to start the show before playing a snippet of a slow, new song he did not reveal the name of. He followed that with an upbeat track in “Turn It Up.”
Rich, from Yuba City, California grew up just 55 miles from Pardi’s hometown of Dixon. Ironically, Rich’s uncle coached Pardi’s high school football team. Rich told him that the first time they met at a bar in Nashville. “And since that moment, Jon took me in as one of his best friends in Nashville and just showed me the entire town. And you guys bought tickets to support his new album that just came out but you did not just buy tickets to see one of your favorite country singers, you bought tickets (to see) a good-ass person; he’s one of the nicest guys I ever met.”
Rich then performed an unreleased song he has played at his shows before called “God Made You For a Small Town” which transitioned into a cover of The Beatles’ “Hey Jude”. “Feels Like Home” came next, another unreleased track. He closed his set with his current single “Leave Her Wild” and his hit “The Difference”.
NYCountry Swag caught up with Tyler Rich just before he hit the stage at Hammerstein for a live swag session with the rising artist. Tune in below to catch his acoustic performance of “Leave Her Wild” and interview.
Jon Pardi came out on stage to a new song called “Oughta Know That”, the first of ten songs he performed Friday night off Heartache Medication. He ditched the guitar to sing “Night Shift” off his sophomore album California Sunrise. Pardi told us that he idolized traditional country artists growing up such as George Strait, Dwight Yoakam and Mark Chesnutt, who are never seen without their guitars. Just like his heroes, that was the last song of the night he performed without a guitar in his hands. “Up All Night” from his debut album, Write You a Song was next.
He then played two new songs in “Old Hat” and “Ain’t Always the Cowboy” then went back to older stuff in “Can’t Put Down” and “She Ain’t In It”. Pardi surprised the fans for his next song, “Tequila Little Time” when he brought out an entire mariachi band on stage to perform with him. The audience loved the twist.
Many people believe that country music and The Big Apple do not go together but ask any country artist and they’ll tell you New York has some of the best country fans out there. “They asked me, ‘why would I go to New York City for an album debut?’ Because New York City is awesome; they love country music!” He praised the crowd for the energy they were bringing so far.
After “What I’ve Been Drinking”, he played two more new songs in “Love Her Like She’s Leaving” and album’s lead single “Heartache Medication”. This made the fans rowdier than before. A couple of songs later, Pardi thanked them and country radio for making this next song, “Head Over Boots” number one and really giving him a voice in the industry.
“Me and Jack” is the story of his love/hate relationship with the whiskey. He displayed that story in cartoon form on the screen behind him as he performed the new tune. Another new one, “Tied One Up” was followed by his big hit “Heartache on the Dancefloor”. Pardi talked about how his grandparents were the ones who got him into country music. He dedicated his next song and the final track on the album, “Starlight”, to them. He ended his set with his boot-stomping number one single, “Dirt on My Boots”. Pardi introduced his band, took a bow then walked off stage, concluding the fun-filled, high-energy night, leaving the crowd of country music traditionalists very satisfied.
We’ve seen Pardi as a supporting act on tours with Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley in the past and if you thought he put on a good show then, you have to see him as a headliner. This Jon Pardi was even more animated on stage and even displayed a few dance moves that he’s kept hidden for us.
Pardi will continue the Heartache Medication Tour with special guest Riley Green starting with two sold-out shows at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Find out if he is coming to a city near you by heading to his website.
