Brett Young Lands #1 Song At Country Radio with “Lady”

Brett Young lands the number one song at country radio this week with “Lady,” inspired by his wife Taylor Mills and daughter, Presley. The news comes just days after the singer revealed that their family is expecting baby girl number two, due this summer.

It has been a huge week for country crooner, Brett Young. Not only did Young celebrate his 40th birthday, but he also revealed the gender of his second baby on The Kelly Clarkson Show. On the heels of the news that he and Mills are having their second daughter, the singer also scored his 7th number one single with his song “Lady.” Follow us on Instagram for clips from each of Young’s hits live from New York City back in February 2020.

Serendipitous as can be, it could not be any sweeter for the Young family. Just as his last number one hit, “Catch” was inspired by his life experiences, “Lady” was as well. The song was written for his wife and his daughter. Inspired by fatherhood and seeing his wife as a mother for the first time, “Lady” is one of Young’s most emotive and heartwarming songs to date. It’s obvious why the song connects with so many country music fans.

We first heard the beautiful song back in February 2020 during Young’s sold-out New York City show. Check out the video below of its first live performance before the track was officially released…

“I hope you look just like your momma // And love her like I do // You’ll see close to perfect patience / If you watch her every move // You can always run to daddy // You’ll always be my baby, // but, Look at her, baby girl // And you’ll learn // How to be a lady”

It is even more exciting that the singer will now be able to share this song with his new baby, due this summer. In the five years Young has been in the mainstream country music scene, he has scored hit songs with six out of his seven singles, as well as, garnered a dedicated fanbase across the world.

Congrats to Brett and his team!

Brett Young Reveals Baby #2’s Gender on The Kelly Clarkson Show

And then there were four! Brett Young visited The Kelly Clarkson Show to reveal the gender of his second child, due this summer.

Back in January Young revealed to fans on social media that he and wife, Taylor Mills Young are expecting baby number two! Due this summer, baby-to-be will join big sister, Presley, making the family a soon-to-be family of four!

Today the country crooner revealed the gender of the baby on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Brett and Taylor are officially having a baby GIRL!

The news comes on the heels of Young’s current radio single, “Lady,” sitting at number two and fighting its way to the number one spot on the country charts, and we predict it’s coming soon! Presley and Taylor are the inspirations for the song, and we are sure that this new baby will inspire Young just as much!

Congrats to Brett, Taylor, Presley, and their newest addition!

Brett Young Releases New Song, “You Got Away With It”

Brett Young’s new song “You Got Away With It” is available now, February 26th, everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

2020 proved to be a busy year for Brett Young, between caring for his newborn baby and touring (at least for a little while) on his Chapters Tour, which was named after his most personal song from his 2019 album, Ticket to LA. Luckily for us, Young was able to make it to NYC in February just before having to cancel the tour due to the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Young and his wife Taylor Mills also announced a few weeks ago that they are expecting their second child.

Now, the singer-songwriter is releasing a brand new song, “You Got Away With It”, which follows his 2020 hit single “Lady”, written for his daughter Presley, as well as his incredible collaboration on “I do” with Astrid S. “You Got Away With It” is an upbeat tune with the classic Brett Young wordplay that we’ve come to love from the singer-songwriter. It’s about a girl that stole everything from a guy and he let her get away with all of it. From the start of the night, she stole his attention and a kiss at the bar and she goes on to steal his time and then his heart. He was just single on a Saturday night and let her get away with whatever she wanted.

“You got away with it, so don’t you go breaking it / Girl you’ve been making it tough for me to not love every little thing that you do baby / You got away with it, and girl I ain’t hating it / It’s too late I don’t want it back, it’s yours and that’s that, and you stole my heart / You got away with it”

The Best Deep Cuts from Brett Young

It is hard to believe that it has only been three years since Brett Young released his debut self-titled record. In his blossoming career, the singer-songwriter has rocketed to stardom and created a loyal following of fans. We have believed in him from the start, even naming him one of our 2017 Artists to Watch. For fun, we decided to look back at his music and highlight some of our favorite deep cuts. Check out the full list below and give the playlist a listen.

“Chapters” – Ticket To L.A.

“Every page you turn is a lesson learned / Ain’t we all, ain’t we all just tryna get it right?”

If there is any song that shares Young’s story the best, it’s “Chapters.” The song is literally his life-story in 3 minutes. Fans have fallen in love with the track, which also features Young’s musical icon Gavin DeGraw, and it’s hard to believe that it has yet to become a single!

“Olivia Mae” – Brett Young

“Olivia Mae, I’ve fallen for you / The past year with you has been the best year of my life”

One of my personal favorites from his debut record, “Olivia Mae” is one of the most heartfelt songs out there. The album cut is a song-writing masterpiece and truly shows Young at his best.

“Back On The Wagon” – Brett Young

“All messed up, no matter what / You know I gotta have it / Even though it winds up tragic / Tonight, whatever happens, happens / And tomorrow, we’ll get back on the wagon”

This song is one of the most relatable in Young’s catalog. All about having a hard time shaking an ex, “Back On The Wagon” is a push-pull song that tells its own story but still manages to tell everyone else’s at the same time.

“The Ship and the Bottle” – Ticket To L.A.

“I was made for a dive bar / Usually good for the night / I can sure hold my whiskey / I can hold my wine”

Off of Young’s sophomore record, Ticket to L.A., “The Ship and the Bottle” is so piercing and clever. The heartbreaking track, written by Nicolle Gaylon, Chase McGill, and Jon Nite shares the message of not wanting to hold someone back in a relationship.

“Left Side Of Leavin’” – Brett Young

“The thing about a breakup / Sometimes you just gotta break down / Coming off a great love / There’s plenty of pain to pass around”

Another song that really checks all the boxes with story-telling and songwriting, this Young track is a special one. “Left Side of Leavin’” is catchy, innovative, and emotive – all adjectives that make up a great country song!

“Ticket to L.A.” – Ticket To L.A.

“Doesn’t even know that I missed my plane / Not a single thing I wouldn’t trade / For a ticket to L.A.”

Young’s sophomore record’s title track is one of our favorites! The flirty and romantic song is a much-needed bright spot in Young’s catalog of music. Also, it happens to one of the most fun songs to hear live!

Rising Artist, Matt Ferranti Releases Post Breakup Song, “Pick Up”

Fresh-new country artist and musician in Brett Young’s touring band, Matt Ferranti released a brand new single, “Pick Up” on Friday, August 14th. This is Ferranti’s first release since his six-song, self-titled EP that dropped in January.

This breakup jam mixes a heavy, pop production and pounding drums with slivers of banjo and steel guitar in the background, giving it a very interesting and unique sound. Although the general theme of the song is nothing new in country music—a male protagonist who can’t stand the fact of his ex-girlfriend going out with other guys—in Ferranti’s version, he’s blindly optimistic. He believes the door remains slightly open, and that if she sees his picture pop-up on her phone, she’ll go running back to him, when in reality that is not the case. This is a hypothetical that every hopeless romantic has drawn-up at some point in their lives.

“Thoughts running wild all across my mind / but it ain’t the same for you /
‘Cause you’re out with some guy / moving on with your life / I call, I call but you don’t pick up”

With the cancellations of Young’s Chapters Tour, in which Ferranti had his own 30-min opening set on, and Jason Aldean’s We Back Tour, in which Young was apart of, Ferranti has used this free-time writing new material. We anticipate that “Pick Up” is the first of many new songs to come from this rising, country talent. Fans will soon know that Ferranti’s skills go far beyond the keys and the guitar, but in singing, songwriting, and performing.

Brett Young Drops Studio Version of “Lady” Written for His Daughter

Brett Young Lady

During a sold-out show at the Hammerstein Ballroom, Brett Young performed this song in honor of his then 3-month old daughter, Presley. Now, months later, “Lady” is released as the newest single from Young, who reached #1 on the country charts and #3 on Billboard with his prior single “Catch”.

“I hope you look just like your momma / And love her like I do / You’ll see close to perfect patience / If you watch her every move / You can always run to daddy / You’ll always be my baby, but / Look at her, baby girl / And you’ll learn / How to be a lady”

The layer of emotion and unconditional love in this track is dense, you can nurture and feed on the authentic display of gratitude for both his wife and newborn. Lyrically, the 2017 “In Case You Didn’t Know” singer confides in his love, Taylor Mills Young, and welcomes the little one to take after her mother. Still, “Lady” does not fall short on the father-daughter dynamic. There are moments that exist solely to show how much Young cherishes his lady-in-the-making. The balance between the two makes it clear that the lessons will be derived from the woman in the relationship. Young pulls this idea from previous experience when his wife helped him get through hurdles and hard times.

“She’ll hear you / She’ll hold you / She’ll help you through / She’ll fix you / And she’ll fix me too”

The production parallels a traditional love song while also fulfilling the devotion to a child. Similarly, Kane Brown’s “For My Daughter” follows the same approach with “Good As You” completing the puzzle. “Lady” holds these two storylines, which are successfully told by the known vulnerability etched into the heartfelt ballads found in Brett Young’s discography.

“Lady” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more recently released music on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

Who Is Matt Ferranti? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Matt Ferranti? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Matt Ferranti

The Beginning:

This week’s Swag Spotlight might be a new solo-artist, but Matt Ferranti has been performing and grinding in the music industry for over a decade. The singer-songwriter has been a staple in superstar, Brett Young’s band, as his guitarist, for a few years now but he is finally embracing stepping out on his own. We spoke with Ferranti about everything from how he got his start in the music industry to where he hopes his solo-career will take him over the next year, and everything in between.

Growing up in Bay City, Michigan, music was a huge part of his upbringing. Ferranti’s father worked as a minister and his mother was a worship leader, so contemporary Christian music was his first introduction to music. As his taste developed, the singer became interested in all different types of artistry from John Mayer to Steven Curtis Chapman to Warped Tour bands, and even boy bands. “I am a hell of boy band fan,” laughed Ferranti, “Justin Timberlake is my jam. I grew up singing that all the time too.” Early fans of Ferranti might know that he often throws an *NSYNC cover into his longer sets.

After playing in many bands all through school, Ferranti found himself in a band that leaned more towards the contemporary country sound. The Detroit-based band found success, opening up for groups like Thompson Square and Gloriana. On a whim and a suggestion from Gloriana, Ferranti and his band finally picked up and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, with hopes of furthering their careers.

The Turning Point:

Knowing virtually no one in Music City, the rising artist found himself humbly working as a bar-back in downtown Nashville and working on improving his songwriting skills. He soaked up as much of the Nashville scene as he could, all while trying to hone his craft.

“I just kinda loved being in Music City. I just like being around it. It’s always kinda popping around. It’s crazy I use to want to be a writer at first,” he explained, “ Nashville humbles you real quick […] I had to bust my tail to really improve so that, basically it’s what they say when preparation meets opportunity […] realizing how damn prepared I have to be.”

For the next five years, Ferranti worked playing every gig and writer’s round that he could, even adding that he would write over 125 songs a year at times. Recognizing his talent and passion for music, his friend and bandmate, Brett Young told him that he was going to help him introduce fans to his own music.

Today:

This catapulted Ferranti into writing five songs he called “the best songs I’ve written in my life,” all in one weekend, and getting to work with Jimmie Robbins to help produce his debut self-titled EP. Out of the six songs on the project, “Make It to the Bedroom,” featuring Hannah Ellis is the only song he didn’t write. According to the singer, it was written by Ellis, with Nick Wayne and Josh Kerr. Ferranti loved the song so much that he knew he had to put it on his EP almost instantly; despite, almost losing it to another artist.

When it comes to the other five songs, he shared, “…I just wrote love songs about my wife. We’ve been together nine years and basically, it’s like, when I wrote these songs, I finally had a vibe.” Ferranti went on to conclude, “I feel like the whole record has a vibe and once we kinda curated that vibe, the lyrics just start coming. We had a story to tell, we had something to say.”

Currently, Ferranti is not only playing in Young’s band still, but he is also the opening act for him on ‘The Chapters Tour.’ We caught the singer last month in New York City, and it’s safe to say that fans resonated with him and his sound. As he continues to garner more and more fans, the artist hopes to work his way towards earning a record deal and hopefully playing shows with other artists or his own shows, in between shows with Young. He even mentioned that he would love to play with his good buddy and fellow singer-songwriter, Filmore.

Additionally, Ferranti hopes to deliver a full-length project sometime in 2020. “I felt like that was the perfect little click before the record comes out of who I am and what I have to say,” he says about the EP, “ And I can’t wait to finish the record. I think the whole story is going to be dope,” he added mentioning that he has seven more songs to record.

It’s clear from his debut record that Ferranti is the real deal. With just six songs, he has cultivated a clear voice and message for fans to get on board with. The passion that he has for music simply rivals that of any established artists in the industry, and we’re excited to see where that passion and talent takes him.

Brett Young Collaborates with Norway Native, Astrid S. on “I Do”

Brett Young Astrid S.

The opening melody to this track offers all the Selena Gomez “Back to You” vibes with a more upbeat and carefree feel to it. To go along with this, the single art is perfectly paired to these flower child feels from Astrid S. and Brett Young. You can only imagine dancing and swaying to these lyrics in a field identical to the one that captures the voice of this singer-songwriter from Norway.

“I Do” categorizes the difficulty in moving on from a past relationship, specifically when alcohol is involved. The entire track conveys the thought process of a recent victim of heartbreak in which a guessing game comes into play. It’s a coin toss as to whether this longing is solely the effects of alcohol and loneliness rather than a genuine devotion to this person; one where the goodbye is still fresh in your mind.

“Am I lonely? / Is it really you I’m missing? / or just somebody? / I think I’ve got mixed feelings / with Bacardi / somehow I just can’t explain / ‘cause I don’t want me to want you”

This track stands out from many other collaborations because it doesn’t necessarily need a second voice to add character or depth. Astrid S. is a whole identity and it’s even more evident after listening to this release. However, Brett Young lending his vocals to this piece separates the 23-year-old upcoming female artist from his rendition of the song. It seems to be two songs in one since both acts show their creative abilities despite their different styles, which makes this production so strong.

“And I try not to wonder where you’ve been / And I try to have a drink, toss it back, I don’t wanna think / I really try not to miss you, but in the end / I do, I do”

“I was so honored to be asked to collaborate on this track with Astrid. When I first heard ‘I Do,’ I instantly connected to the lyrics and storytelling, so jumping onboard and digging into something a little bit different was a no-brainer for me. I can’t wait for the fans to hear this one,” Young says in a recent press release.
