If you were up early Friday morning (Aug. 10) odds are you got a chance to see Cody Johnson’s National television debut. Johnson the self-proclaimed ‘god fearing, hard working, beer drinking, fighting, loving cowboy’ was true to his roots dress in a plaid button-down, straw cowboy hat, and cowboy boots.

After ten years of hard work in the rodeo, honky tonks and even a brief stint as a prison guard, Johnson knows making music and performing is what he was put on the Earth to do. And he sure is good at it! He spoke to the newscasters about growing up surrounded by music and how it was just something they did.  He explained it wasn’t a dream he thought he would chase until he saw Garth Brooks perform right there in the same city he was in, New York City, during his epic Central Park performance. “I don’t know if I thought I could do that, but I thought ‘Man I sure want to’,” he told them. Watch a clip from the interview on here on Fox.

Johnson performed his new single “On My Way to You” in front on hundreds of ‘CoJo Nation’ fans. He lovingly sang the words he wrote for his wife into the microphone, most of the times with his eyes closed –  giving off a strong sense of emotion to each word. Johnson was accompanied by his band (2 guitarists, a drummer, and a violinist) which he loving calls ‘the future farmers of America’.

In true cowboy fashion, Johnson ended the performance with a tip of the hat and the words ‘God Bless Y’all’.  Within hours of this performance, Johnson’s new single hit #1 on iTunes.  Take a listen to his new song below.

Devin Dawson

[Watch] Devin Dawson Multiply Himself in “Asking For a Friend” Video

California native Devin Dawson released the video for his second single “Asking for a Friend” earlier this week.  The song is the follow up to “All On Me” which was gold-certified and the debut from his critically acclaimed album Dark Horse.

The concept of the single has had an ambiguous meaning since it’s debut. The lyrics tell a story of a man, who is asking for forgiveness, but it is unclear whether it is for himself or actually for a friend.  Set in Dawson’s signature black and white, the narrative visually showcases the angst the main character (played by Dawson) feels, as he longs for his broken relationship, but lacks the courage to apologize. In fact, Dawson multiples himself, playing each representation of a friend in the video. The stylistic and almost futuristic vibes of the video entices the viewer to continue to watch the story unfold.

When asked about his music video for “Asking for a Friend,” and his knack for storytelling, the singer-songwriter passionately shared in a recent press release, “I will always be a lyric guy at heart and nothing makes me happier than watching those words come to life.”

Dawson proved that he is a “lyric guy at heart,” as he has utilized his platform to create a YouTube series called “Asking for a Friend – Answered”, where he gives advice to fans on any issues and conflicts he or she or a “friend” might have. Find his newest installment below.

The singer does not currently have any future shows planned for New Yorkers just yet, gets back on the road with label mate, Brett Eldredge on the Long Way Tour; however, take a look back at our review of Dawson’s opening set from the first leg of the tour back in May.

Brett Eldredge Takes Over Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Brett Eldredge

Last night you had not one, but two chances to catch Brett Eldredge on your television screen. Earlier in the evening, Eldredge was seen performing on the ‘Music Event of the Summer’ CMA Fest, where he performed “The Long Way”. Soon after he took over late night T.V. on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing as part of the concert series presented by Mercedes Benz. Eldredge is not new to Kimmel, he first made his debut on the show in 2015 performing “Lose My Mind” and “Drunk on Your Love” while also appearing in the Mean Tweets Country Music Editions.

Last night he closed out Kimmel performing his new hit single “Love Someone” from his self-titled album. As the music started to play, Eldredge, who was full of energy began his set asking the crowd “Y’all ready to get down tonight? I’m ready for you, here we go!” During the performance, the country star was seen dancing in sync with his lyrics and interacting with the crowd telling them it “Feels good to love you!”

“Love Someone” ended on a high note but that wasn’t the end of the night for the crowd watching Eldredge perform live. Off camera, Eldredge continued his set with other hit singles for the audience like “Drunk On Your Love “and “Wanna Be That Song”. He also performed “The Long Way” which can be seen on Jimmy Kimmel’s YouTube channel.

If you didn’t have the chance to catch The Long Way Tour yet this year, the second leg of the tour starts up in September with Devin Dawson and Abby Anderson. As well as playing other shows throughout the summer. For New Yorkers, Eldredge is performing on August 23rd at BMHMC Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Long Island with Morgan Evans and Stephanie Quayle.

Chris Young Entertains Nash FM 94.7 Winners at Stage 17

Chris Young Stage 17

To cap off a whirlwind Tuesday in New York City that started with a 3 am wake-up call for Good Morning America, Chris Young played an intimate show at Nash FM 94.7 Hackensack Meridian Health Stage 17, just after an interview with NYCountry Swag. Backed by two guitarists and strumming his own acoustic, Young charmed fans during his six-song set that included some of his classic and future hits. He also took time to chat with Nash DJs Katie Neal and Jesse Addy, telling stories about summers as a teenager, recording with Cassadee Pope and Vince Gill, and his arena tour, which hits Long Island in December.

Playing the “Up Close and Country” stage atop New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Young recounted his last visit to the famous arena, taking his mom to see Billy Joel. He also took a page from Joel’s book for the acoustic show, recalling how the Piano Man announced, “I’m not gonna play anything new, I’m just going to play stuff you guys know.” Young promised the same, “So that’s what we’re going to do today, play stuff that you guys put on the radio.” He then played some of his earliest hits, including “Getting You Home” and “The Man I Want to Be.”

While introducing the latter, Young admitted that the song had slipped from his set-list, but returned at the request of an unusual person, The Rock. “So I didn’t play this song for a long time, and there’s all different kinds of reasons that you end up putting something back in your set. This was a multi-week #1, and we had it out of the show, I really don’t know why, but when the Rock tweets at you, you kinda gotta put the song back in the set, and he did so…”

One of the highlights of the show was its impromptu vibe, as Young turned to his guitarists, asking what song they should play next, and Ryan Haas chose “You,” while Kevin Collier and the Rock had similar tastes, choosing “The Man I Want to Be.” Young also played “You” and “Aw Naw,” much to the excitement of the lucky fans in the audience.

While tuning his guitar to introduce his penultimate song, Young recalled a hilarious story of playing at a funeral convention as an up and coming artist. He admitted that he opened for an Elvis impersonator and played in front of a casket that cost $100,000.  He then began to play one song, while his guitarist played another, adding to the spontaneous hilarity of the night. They were quickly back in tune with each other, playing Young’s current single, “Hangin’ On,” which is the follow up to his 10th #1, “Losing Sleep.”

Young ended the evening with a song that “changed his life,” “I’m Coming Over.” Before launching into it, he thanked and praised Nash FM 94.7, and the great city in which it resides. “This is one of my favorite cities on the face of the planet,” Young said of New York City. “I love getting the chance to come up here, especially when we get the chance to do so many cool things in the span of like two days.”

Judging from the reaction from the fans in the audience and on Facebook Live, New York City loves having Chris Young here as much as he enjoys being here.  If you didn’t have a chance to attend last night’s intimate show, you’re in luck because you can watch a replay of it below.

The exciting news comes out that her tour is kicking off in May 2019, since she has another baby on the way! “Mike and Isaiah and I are absolutely over the moon and excited to be adding another little fish to our pond!” she shared this morning via social media. “This has just been a dream come true, with the album and with baby news and all that stuff. [Listen] Chris Young Chats About Google’s “American Rapper” Mistake

Chris Young Nash FM

Managing Editor, Christina Bosch interviewing Chris Young

As country fans, we all know that Chris Young is a multi-platinum selling artist, responsible for hits like “I’m Comin’ Over”, “Think of You” and most recently his 10th no. 1 song “Losing Sleep”.  The internet, however, had something entirely different in mind.  For a brief moment when you Google ‘Chris Young’ pictures of the country star appeared on the page, but something very strange was written underneath his name…”American Rapper”.  Young documented the moment in a recent Instagram post commenting “Um…@google I’ve been described in a lot of ways…this is the first time “American Rapper” has been used tho.  #hanginon #googleisdrunk”

Chris Young

When we spoke with him last night before his Stage 17 performance at Nash FM 94.7 studios, Young laughed when we brought up the mishap.  “I just started laughing, it’s one of those things that, with all of the stuff that lives on the internet, there are so many things that can get edited.” he joked.  “I’m not surprised that something like that happened but it’s still really funny because it’s next to all of these photos of me, right underneath where it said it.”  He laughed as he told us that although he probably could rap if he was put to the test, he doesn’t think anybody would buy the record.

Coming off of an early morning, playing for Good Morning America, Young told us that it was great to be back on that stage explaining he would get up at 3 AM anytime to play for those viewers.  He performed his latest single “Hangin’ On” which is about to be Top 20 on the charts as well as his most recent number 1 single “Losing Sleep”.  Young told us that he just found out that “Losing Sleep” also has hit platinum status.  “It’s always a two-prong thing, you want a number 1, but you also want people to buy the song, so having both of those marks for a song is just really, really cool and especially since it was the first single off the new record,” Young says.

His Losing Sleep World Tour resumes in September and hits the New York area on December 7th at Nassau Veterans Coliseum.   When discussing how he keeps it fresh for his loyal fans, Young explained “For me the biggest thing is putting on the best show possible, there are a lot of things when you get to the size and scope of an arena tour where it’s locked in, these songs are happening in this order and there is video content to go along with them and then there are parts of my show that I like to keep very much organic where I can do whatever the hell I want to be honest.”  He told us that fans can look forward to acoustic parts of the night where the set list will change from city to city.

Journey with LANCO in New Video for “Born to Love You”

Country music platinum breakout group LANCO won the hearts of music lovers everywhere with their smash hit “Greatest Love Story,” and are doing it again with their top 25 (and rising) single “Born to Love You,” off their debut album, Hallelujah Nights.

The music video for “Born to Love You” dropped last Friday, August 3rd streaming across all platforms with already over 50,000 views on YouTube alone. The video chronicles the picturesque, story-telling lyrics in a whirlwind journey, as the band is showcased in meaningful places across the United States that are meant to depict the towns the group members are from.

Frontman of LANCO and co-writer of “Born to Love You,” Brandon Lancaster shared in a recent press release: “As we continue to travel the world as a band we’ve been given a glimpse into how many people, places, and cultures there are. With that in mind we wanted a music video that emphasized the idea in this song of just how amazing it is that out of all those places and people, two people can come together and find love.”

In other words, LANCO wants their fans to know that regardless of where you are from or what stage you are at in life, two people that are meant to be together, will do everything to be together. Leave it to LANCO to utilize their music videos to elevate their already touching lyrics.

New Yorkers get your tickets to see the Mountain High Tour and catch LANCO open for Dierks Bentley with Brothers Osborne at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday, September 8th.  Tickets and more information available here.
