“I got my toes in the water, toes in the sand / Not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand /
Life is good today. Life is good today”

“Barefoot Blue Jean Night” – Jake Owen

“It’s gonna be a long, hot summer, we should be together / With your feet up on the dashboard now / Singing along with the radio, it’s such a beautiful sound / But when you say my name in the middle of the day / I swear I see the stars come out / When you hold my hand in the back of my mind / Just waiting on the sun to go down, the sun to go down”

“Pontoon” – Little Big Town

On the pontoon / Makin’ waves and catchin’ rays up on the roof / Jumpin’ out the back, don’t act like you don’t want to / Party in slow motion / Out here in the open / Mm, motorboatin’”

“19 You + Me” – Dan + Shay

“Watchin’ that blonde hair swing / To every song I’d sing / You were California beautiful / I was playin’ everything but cool / I can still hear that sound / Of every wave crashin’ down / Like the tears we cried / That day we had to leave / It was everything we wanted it to be / The summer of
19 you and me”

Dustin Lynch Releases Stunning Visuals for “Ridin’ Roads”

Ridin Roads

Dustin Lynch’s new video for “Ridin’ Roads” is here, it premiered exclusively on CMT on Thursday. The song is his lead single off his new EP coined with the same name. With the stunning, visual effects director Mason Dixon came up with, this a video you’ll want to watch.

Shot in the beautiful Florida Everglades, the video tells the story of a couple driving through the country and going down the backroads that many people tend to forget about. Forgetting about the real world, they are just focused on one another and enjoying the time they have together. In a technology-driven world, this is a lesson we all need to learn from Lynch, put the phones down, go for a ride with your significant other, and get lost in love.

The way that each scene merges with the next is incredible and something we haven’t seen before. In a recent press release, the singer-songwriter said, “We decided to treat this video with textures and overlays-imposing images to add another dimension to the storyline while creating a new palette we’ll continue to paint from with new music coming soon.”

Following Lynch’s hit song “Good Girl,” “Ridin’ Roads” is co-written by Lynch, Ashley Gorley, and Zach Crowell and is already a hit. It debuted as the #1 selling country single in the US as well as the #1 most-added song at country radio the week of its release.

The singer-songwriter has a busy summer ahead of him as he is on the road with Rhett Atkins, Russell Dickerson, and Thomas Rhett on Rhett’s Very Hot Summer Tour. They will be making their stop at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ on August 3rd. This talented group will also be at Madison Square Garden in NYC on September 20th.

To keep up with Lynch follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

“Ridin’ Roads” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

NYCS Swag Spotlight Nate Botsford

Nate Botsford

Portland, Oregon singer-songwriter Nate Botsford is our Swag Spotlight this week celebrating the release of his brand new song “Tiny Little Voices”. Growing up he recalls that his grandparents were incredible musicians, played piano and sang. He started piano lessons when he was five years old and always had a sense of writing songs. He started picking on a guitar when he was thirteen, starting to write actual music and songs when he was in his senior year of high school.

He grew up in church, his parents raising him on gospel music but as he got older he was attracted to old school country like Johnny Cash, and George Strait. “I was always attracted to the songwriting, so I loved the artists that were becoming popular that were also songwriters like Thomas Rhett, Brett Young, Old Dominion,” Botsford explained. “I got into those artists that were doing what I am trying to do, writing their own stuff as opposed to just singing other people’s songs.”

He started performing outside of the church when he was a senior year in high school, playing parties. “I got such a high from performing and singing and it was hard to explain so I kind of knew that was what I wanted to do,” he tells us. His family didn’t exactly encourage him to pursue music full time so after high school, he became a swim instructor and a lifeguard but after seven years, he decided he wanted to be a musician, playing wherever he could.

He tells us that he is still developing his country sound, that for a while he was writing songs that fit more into the bluegrass or singer-songwriter lane. “I always wanted to write country but I hit a wall for a few years,” Botsford tells us. “I won a songwriting competition a few years ago, I was mentored and my mentor told me that I had to go country, so I went home from there and started writing as much as I could and tried to aim towards country.”

Although he travels to Nashville every few months to write and to network, Botsford is currently still based in Portland. He explains that he loves his hometown, he has an amazing group of guys as his band and he hopes to accomplish his career and create music without moving to Nashville.

His latest single “Tiny Little Voices” was a song he started four years ago and planned on it just being a song for him, he never expected anyone to hear it. “I hit this place where I realized, I allowed so many of the influences and the people in my life tell me that I shouldn’t do music, I couldn’t do music, I let that create this wall in front of me and kind of realized that the one thing keeping me from pursuing it was me and I needed to stop listening to those voices in my head so I sat down and was frustrated and wrote this song,” he explains. It’s an important message for hope during dark times. Botsford says now that the song is released, it’s like he is baring a bit of his soul and hoping that people like it.

He is looking ahead to the rest of this year, touring all over the place and opening for Chris Janson and LOCASH. He is also going to record a few more songs and hopefully release an album by the end of summer.

Maren Morris & RaeLynn Sell Out Two Venues in NYC Area

Maren Morris NYC

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

This past weekend, country songwriter turned superstar artist Maren Morris performed for thousands of fans in the New York City area when her GIRL: The World Tour made stops at Brooklyn Steel and Terminal 5. Morris brought her undeniable charm, wit and epic stage presence to deserving fans who have been following her career for years.

On this leg of the tour, and both evenings the opening slot was taken by RaeLynn.  The sassy singer-songwriter performed songs from her 2017 debut album WildHorse, such as “Love Triangle” as well as her brand new hits “Queens Don’t” and “Tailgate”. RaeLynn is the perfect opening act for Morris’ fan base, she is real, her songs are relatable and she brings a certain sass that country music fans love.

On Saturday night at Terminal 5, Morris welcomed RaeLynn back to the stage to perform “All My Favorite People” the duet on GIRL that usually features Brothers Osborne. RaeLynn was celebrating her birthday, so after they sang together, Morris led the entire crowd in one giant sing-a-long of “Happy Birthday”. The gesture brought RaeLynn to tears and it was definitely a sweet moment between both artists.

Both Friday and Saturday night, Morris put on a memorable show for fans who packed and sold out both venues. Opening with the title track to her latest album and anthemic smash “GIRL”, she weaved songs from her debut album HERO with her new hits and the audience could be heard singing back every word.

Before singing “I Could Use A Love Song”, Morris slowed things down a bit to chat with her sold-out audience. She explained the story of a radio programmer who told her not to pick that as her next single saying “Oh god no – people do not want to hear sad women on the radio,” and I was like ‘F*ck you, sure they do’,” she laughed.  “I was so in shock ’cause I have grown up listening to country music and a good bit of it is sad, and as someone that deals with your everyday anxiety and if I have a low day, if I’m sad I don’t turn the radio on and look for a sad song and think that it’s going to make me more depressed, I listen to a sad song on the radio because it makes me feel like someone else out there is going through the same thing,” the audience cheered. “Which is sort of the point of it all, isn’t it, so I did not heed his professional advice, it was a slow climb and it took 42 weeks up the chart to finally hit but it was such poetic justice because that guy got fired and this was my first number one song.”

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

Whether she was strutting around with confidence during “Make Out With Me” or “RSVP” or leading the entire crowd in swaying their hands back and forth during “Second Wind”, Morris captivated her audience from the moment she stepped on the stage. She couldn’t end the night without singing the song that truly changed everything for her. “I remember when I wrote this particular song one day, I felt this panic and I felt like, I don’t know if I can give this song away to another artist because it meant so much to me, we don’t get very many of those songs,” she said of “My Church”. I knew that I was on to something, I knew that in my heart, this song would change a lot of things for me and everything starts with one song, a little 3 minute and 30-second song can really turn everything in your life around.” During the entire song, you could barely hear Morris as the crowd sang along, becoming her own personal ‘gospel choir’. Check out the incredible sing-a-long moment below.

Just announced! Maren Morris will be playing the iconic Radio City Music Hall on September 6th, bringing along one of our 2019 Artists to Watch Kassi Ashton as well as Hailey Whitters. For more information and tickets head to https://www.marenmorris.com/

Jill And Kate Record Live Podcast Featuring NYCountry Swag & Perform

LISTEN HERE

Up and coming female country duo, Jill and Kate, comprised of Jill Pickering and Kate Rapier are a force to be reckoned with. The talented duo are powerhouse singers and songwriters, as well as, co-hosts and creators of a successful podcast called ‘Girls Just Pod to Have Fun.’ On Friday night, attendees at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City were lucky enough to watch a live podcast taping for their second season, as well as, listen to the ladies perform some of their music.

The podcast is all about what happens when things don’t go according to plan and what keeps you going. It was inspired by Jill and Kate’s experiences, as they were beginning to feel stuck and defeated with their everyday lives in Nashville. They decided to sell all their belongings and go on an adventure of a lifetime, which they refer to as a “walkabout.”

At the beginning of the night, Kate explained to the audience more about their inspiration for starting a podcast, “There’s so many times in life where things don’t go the way you planned or you thought you’d be somewhere by now. Or for any myriad of reasons you end up and you’re feeling super depleted. And that’s what we were feeling […] For the last year and a half, we’ve been on this adventure/walkabout, where we started this podcast.”

Jill and Kate

After hitting it off great with Jill and Kate earlier that day, the women asked New York Country Swag’s own Stephanie Wagner and Christina Bosch to be guests on this episode of ‘Girls Just Pod to Have Fun.’ In the witty and insightful episode, Stephanie and Christina dish about how NY Country Swag started, what motivates them, their struggles, and why they love what they do, with, of course, some talk about the television shows ‘Friends’ and ‘Gilmore Girls’ thrown in there.

When Jill and Kate asked the NY Country Swag ladies about what’s been harder than they thought about starting a business, Stephanie shared some insight into her experience running a business, including peoples’ perception. “But it’s things that you don’t even realize are a struggle. […] We always say- we’ll like have a really cool, awesome opportunity, and people are like “you’re so lucky”. What is luck?! But you have no idea what went on to get that. It’s crazy, we were actually talking about it on the way here because we just set up one of our live sessions with an artist that we’re really really excited about that we can’t say yet […]. I was freaking out but then I was like this is what it all about, this is why I’m doing it. You really need to be passionate about what you do, otherwise, it’s never going to work. Listen to the full podcast here.

Jill and Kate

Jill and Kate are clearly passionate about connecting with people throughout all sorts of creative outlets, including their podcast and their music. After the podcast, the songstresses played several songs, mesmerizing fans with their beautiful harmonies, honest and raw lyrics, and down to earth personalities.

The duo began their set, singing their newly released single, “Better.” The jam is all about connections and the power of partnership and community. The talented artists also sang their songs “Skinny Jeans,” “Heart of Stone,” and What Do You Say?” among many others.

Engaging the audience all night long, the singers switched gears, deciding to sing Britney Spears’ song “Baby One More Time,” sharing “This is fun! This is pretty much my dream night- recording a podcast, playing a show. But we’re also going to play some songs that we didn’t write, and we’re going to need your help with this one!”

The ladies also sang their powerful song, “Same Side.” The track speaks to the message that “We need more love to beat the hate,” adding that we need to remember that we’re all on the same side and to work together to promote change and happiness for all. However, the highlight of their performance was when the duo sang their ballad “Nashville.” The track is a deeply personal song, penned by the ladies about needing a break from a place or a person, who is no longer serving you or your soul. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful and emotional, but one of the most well crafted and vocally delivered songs out there.

The night was truly a night to remember for the intimate crowd at Rockwood, as well as for us at New York Country Swag. Jill and Kate are truly unique talents and creatives both as a duo and as individuals. We look forward to continuing to champion their music careers.

Make sure to keep Jill and Kate on your radar! You can download their newly released single “Better,” available everywhere you buy or stream music and listen to their podcast “Girls Just Pod to Have Fun’ via the podcast application. Stay tuned for next week’s episode, featuring our Founder, Stephanie and Managing Editor, Christina!

Lauren Jenkins and The Wild Feathers Perform in NYC

Lauren Jenkins / The Wild Feathers

Texas-born, Carolina-raised singer-songwriter Lauren Jenkins transformed Gramercy Theatre into an intimate sharing experience with a lot of laughs for those in attendance. The Big Machine Records singer opened for The Wild Feathers and kept it real with the audience, removing all walls that could hide her vulnerability. Having been a touring artist since she was 15, she’s gone through so much, and that life experience is evident in her songs, without sparing any details.

Her ‘tell it like it is’ personality had her instantly admired, and the crowd, somewhat unfamiliar with Jenkins, immediately related to her. She lived in New York for a time, and was extremely glad to be back, saying it felt like home. She opened with her cover of Ella Fitzgerald’s “Summertime”, followed by the popular “Give up the Ghost”. Her folk style with the acoustic guitar and memorable lyrics created instant new fans. She told the stories of bad habits which came to be “Maker’s Mark, Marlboros, and You”, and the story of looking at her bank account and sparking the idea for “Pay Day”. She got the crowd to sing the last verse, laughing, saying “I have not gotten paid from this song yet, but here’s to hoping.”

The next song she played, also the title of her debut record, “No Saint”, tells her personal story of not being able to forgive someone even though she knows she should.  She goes on to tell the story of a too-long relationship she had in Charleston with a guy who cheated on her and brought a girl to the bar she was bartending at. “My Bar” describes how she kicked him out of the bar, and then wrote a song about it. “Moral of the story is don’t be a jerk, especially to a bartender, or a songwriter, and tip your bartenders.” This story got some cheers from the crowd and everyone on her side.

She finished her set with the track with the same title as her short film, “Running Out of Road”. She said, “Sometimes the road is long and you have to go on the dirt and make your own path.” This speaks to her grit and commitment to her own path and following where the music leads her. Overall, Jenkins connected with the audience and had everyone singing along by the second chorus of every song, even if they didn’t originally know the lyrics. She has the openness as well as the vocals to make a huge contribution to the music scene, and we’re excited to see how she continues to leave her mark.

The Wild Feathers Lauren Jenkins

The Wild Feathers started their set off slowly with “Lonely is a Lifetime”. The harmonies of this song were so intriguing, creating a captivating experience. They followed with tons of energy during “American”. The fans were already ready, singing along and many isolated cheers of “You’re awesome!” accompanied by loud whistles. Their voices blended well together, with their eyes closing, lost in the feel of the music. The guitar solos brought a rock vibe to the group that everyone cheered for.

“Quittin’ Time” has a strong beat and a nice rock to it. These lyrics were easy to catch on for any new fans. “Wildfire” has more of a laid back vibe, talking about burning everywhere they pass like a wildfire. The band hadn’t performed their own show in a while and was excited to be back in New York. The crowd definitely consisted of some serious fans who knew every word, and the band definitely delivered.

Showcasing songs from their latest release, Greetings From the Neon Frontier, the band who has been together for almost a decade flawlessly performed their biggest hits for a room full of fans. Their ability and their catchy songs had the room captivated all night.

Old Dominion’s Emotional New Ballad “Some People Do”

Some People Do Old Dominion

Old Dominion are known for their hard-hitting tracks, such as “Hotel Key” and “Break Up With Him,” as well as their cleverly strung together slow jams, like “Written in the Sand;” however, the country group are pushing their talents and creativity to new heights this year. Old Dominion just released their third song off their highly anticipated third studio album. The new track, “Some People Do,” follows their number one single, “Make It Sweet” and “One Man Band.”

Tapping into a whole new level of artistry and vulnerability, lead singer Matthew Ramsey pours his heart out on the raw and honest track. The song focuses on humanity’s ability to change and learn from their mistakes and lends itself well to the feel of a breakup song. Co-written with country star Thomas Rhett, the lyrically-impactful song will leave you with chills.

“Some people quit drinking too much / And some people quit lying / Some people decide to grow up / But it’s never good timing / Most wouldn’t forget / What I put you through / But I’m here tonight / Hoping some people do.”

The reigning ACM Vocal Group of the Year winners shared on Twitter their feelings about the song being released to the public earlier today. “We pushed ourselves on this album. This song is a side of us we haven’t shown as blatantly, and it’s a little scary to put out into the world. But part of our job as songwriters it to tell the truth, even if it’s hard to go there.”

Old Dominion has truly outdone themselves with “Some People Do”, showcasing honesty and relatability. Additionally, Ramsey shows another side to his impressive vocals. We hope to see more lyrically driven and vocally challenging songs on the group’s forthcoming album.

Old Dominion’s ‘Make It Sweet Tour’ makes its way to the New York area in just a few weeks. Catch the group with tour mates Jordan Davis and Mitchell Tenpenny on Friday, May 17th at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden or Saturday, May 25th at the Brookhaven Amphitheater on Long Island. For additional information, visit weareolddominion.com.
