NYCS x Manhattan By Sail Featuring Jessica Rose & Baker Grissom

Last Friday evening (September 27th), we set sail on our 3rd Manhattan By Sail Country Edition with followers and country music fans alike. What’s better than the ocean breeze, stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and country music? Nothing. We teamed up with Manhattan By Sail for another Country Edition sail last Saturday, September 27th and once again country music fans boarded the Clipper City to make memories they will never forget. Check out the full recap video of the special night below.

After boarding, patrons grabbed a cold drink on a beautiful clear evening and found their spots as the boat sailed into the harbor. After our founder Stephanie Wagner and our Managing Editor, Christina Bosch thanked everyone for attending our first musical guest grabbed the mic to entertain the ship.

Staten Island local, Jessica Rose kicked things off with a high-energy set including some of her own songs and some of our favorite cover songs. She had the boat singing along on “Sweet Home Alabama” as well as “Redneck Woman” and her original, totally appropriate for the setting, “Floatin'”. While guests took pictures in front of the Statue of Liberty, Rose showcased her spunky talent and incredible vocal abilities.

Up next was Arkansas native, singer-songwriter Baker Grissom. Grissom had flown into New York City for the very first time earlier in the day, experiencing the Big Apple in all its glory from the sailboat. He kicked off his set with Eric Church’s “Drink In My Hand” and continued to entertain the fans with great covers like Garth Brooks’ “Rodeo” and hosted a giant sailboat sing-a-long during Luke Combs’ “Beer Never Broke My Heart”. He also sang originals like “Right Bar Wrong Stool” as well as a great drinking song, “Jack Made Jack”, proving to these new followers that his name should be one they remember.

Cold drinks in hand, guests had the chance to take pictures in front of Lady Liberty and the entire New York City skyline. Check out more pictures from the night here.

Be sure to grab your tickets to our final sail of the summer season on October 11th featuring Lauren Davidson and Kalie Shorr. See you there!

Luke Combs What you SEe is what you get

The much anticipated sophomore album release from country superstar, Luke Combs, is right around the corner— exactly a month from today. This morning he released the title track off the album “What You See Is What You Get.”  The track is unapologetically Combs, talking about how he is exactly who he is and you better believe he won’t apologize for it. It’s something we’ve come to love about the singer-songwriter. He brings a feel good upbeat tune with lyrics that are simple yet catchy.

“I’m a straight shooting / Beer drinking, rule breaking / Don’t think I won’t take a good thing too far / I’m a midnighting, backsliding / Getaway car driving / Running away with your heart / I guess, be careful what you wish for, is all I meant when I said // What you see is what you get”

You can catch Combs on the road on his Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour featuring Jameson Rodgers, Ray Fulcher, Morgan Wallen and the Cadillac Three on various dates this fall.

The full track listing for his album, releasing November 8th, includes songs with both Eric Church and Brooks & Dunn.

NYCS Swag Spotlight Tori Martin

Tori Martin

Nashville’s latest newcomer, singer-songwriter Tori Martin is this week’s Swag Spotlight artist. Before making a name for herself in Nashville, Martin grew up in a military family and has lived all over the country. Nevertheless, she considers Texas home and spent the majority of her life growing up in a small town, filled with lots of southern hospitality.

As a young girl, she knew what she wanted to be doing. She admits, “I didn’t grow up in a musical family, I was kind of an oddball who liked to sing, and wanted to play guitar and play piano and just loved everything to do with music.” One of the first things she did at a young age was an audition for the Texas Girls Choir, a traveling state choir that would sing all over the world. It was Martin making the group that opened up her family’s eyes to her skill as they recognized, “Oh, she kind of has a talent. It’s more than just a little girl being like, ‘I like to sing.'”

Her family was her support system, and Martin said, “Somebody who really encouraged me to pursue music was my grandfather, I called him Pawpaw, he has passed now, but he loved country music and he loved that I loved to sing. He would always get me to sing Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash – just the good classic’s.” Ironically, it was not until much later in life she found out that he was the one that actually paid for her to be in the Texas Girls Choir. Looking back, the songstress reflected, “He was my number one supporter, and even bought me my first guitar.”

She fell in love with Nashville when she visited the city at age 16. It was there where she started to pursue her career in music and recorded her first EP at Clive Studios. She had a goal in mind, and her eyes set on getting back there. Martin returned to Texas to promote her EP, play local shows, make a name for herself in Texas Country Radio and ultimately grow her fan base before making the official move to “Music City” in 2017.

With a voice that is beautiful yet powerful, her music is heavily influenced by big voices and soul singers. She said, “One of my favorite singers and idols is Stevie Nicks, and seeing her in concert was mindblowing, and I was in awe.” In addition to Nicks, Martin is a huge Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin fan. She tells us, “I am kind of like a blend – I love country music, I love rock, I love soul, I love pop, and I have influences in different genres.”

Her current single “Living the Dream” is an inspirational song about not giving up on what you have your heart and mind set on. Martin wrote “Living the Dream” with Lyndsay Highlander when she first moved to Nashville and it has become her anthem to remember why she is doing it – not because of fame or fortune, but because she loves what she does. She then goes on to reveal the meaning behind the song, “I’ve been in the music industry since 16, and of course, you’re on a musical journey and there’s a lot of opportunities and there’s a lot of no’s and a lot of yes’s. Sometimes it’s hard not to get jaded and to stay encouraged and to keep going.”

The music video to “Living the Dream” is a perfect depiction of that meaning. It features famous NASCAR driver Jennifer Jo Cobb and blends together her career and Martin’s aspiring singing career. Martin said, “We don’t have the same job, but we’re both in male-dominated scenes, and we’ve both been chasing our dreams since we were very young, so we wanted to merge both of the stories together and inspire all girls, all women, no matter what area of life they might be pursuing their dreams just to go for it.”

Martin has a lot in store for the remainder of the year and into 2020. She is currently in the studio working on an album that will be released soon. In addition, she is playing shows in and around Nashville and is the cohost to a singer-songwriter series called “Music Biz Besties” that showcases up and coming artists at different venus once a month in Nashville.

To keep up with Tori Martin, follow her on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Carly Pearce and Michael Ray’s Intimate ‘Whimsical’ Wedding

Congratulations are in order! The newest country music couple have officially tied the knot and People.com is sharing the first photo of the beautiful couple.  The rising country stars said their vows at a Nashville-area farm in front of their closest friends and family on Sunday (October 6th). Keeping the celebration in the country music family, their wedding was officiated by none other than Bill Cody, radio DJ and the announcer for the Grand Ole Opry and Jake Owen sang their first dance, “Made For You”.

NYCountry Swag caught up with the “Her World Or Mine” singer earlier this summer at Taste of Country Music Festival where he dished about the upcoming wedding and told us about the moment he heard “Made For You” and decided that Jake Owen just had to sing at their wedding. Check out the full interview below.

As Pearce gears up to release her sophomore record, she teased the new music with a duet featuring Lee Brice, “I Hope Your Happy Now” which she says is all about the relationship that broke her heart, before meeting her now husband, Michael. We look forward to hearing new music from Pearce and hearing even more details about their incredible day.

Congratulations to Michael & Carly!

NYCS First Impression: Steve Moakler ‘Pocket 1’ EP

Steve Moakler Pocket 1 Blue Jeans

Steve Moakler is back with new music, releasing his new EP Pocket 1, today. The three-song collection comes in advance of his forthcoming album, Blue Jeans, due out in 2020. The songs show Moakler as more mature and yet more vulnerable, reflecting on fatherhood, marriage, and all of the changes that come with growing up.

The collection features his new single, “Push,” as well as “One on the Way, in honor of the birth of his son this year, and the album’s title track, “Blue Jeans.”

On “Push,” co-written by Moakler, Blane Mitchell, Grant Vogel, he sings of the trials of his marriage, and how he and his wife, Gracie, are able to rise above the hard times to come out stronger. “No matter how tough it looks/ I want you to know I ain’t afraid to/ Push on through, toward you,” Moakler sings here. “I ain’t afraid to/ Push around what’s pushing you round/ Push back what’s pushing you down/ ‘Till it’s buried in the ground /I ain’t afraid to push.”

Moakler spoke exclusively to People about his new single, revealing, “Sometimes the mere title of a song leads you to the song’s heart, and that’s what happened with this song. I played off the word ‘Push’ with two friends of mine, and it quickly became a song that tells a piece of the narrative of my marriage.” He continues, “When times are tough, we have to remind each other that we have chosen each other. There are days when we don’t feel as close, but those are the days we really need to dig in and have the hard conversations and make sure we both know that neither of us are going anywhere. When you push through, you can find magic.”

“Blue Jeans” was co-written by Moakler and Keith Varon, and celebrates how life if like a pair of tried and true blue jeans. “There ain’t nothing in the world like a pair of blue jeans,” He muses. “Getting better with time/ It’s a beautiful thing/ Breaking in this life like a pair of blue jeans.”

Finally, Moakler wrote “One on the Way” with Josh Kerr and Gordie Sampson, celebrating life’s changes and fatherhood. It’s a beautiful tribute to both his wife and their son. “One on the way means a whole different thing these days,” He sings, comparing his life now to his youth.

Dan + Shay Release “10,000 Hours” with Pop Sensation Justin Bieber

Dan + Shay joined their friend Justin Bieber for another catchy and romantic song, “10,000 Hours.” The duo made up of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are known for their heartfelt power ballads so it’s no surprise this track tugs at the heartstrings similar to “From the Ground Up” and “Speechless.” The lyrics are about wanting to know everything possible about your significant other, even if it takes “10,000 hours or the rest of my life.”

The duo and superstar teased the track earlier in the week with an Instagram post on the duo’s Instagram and their personal pages. Their symbol in teal and pink and a caption that read 10.4.19. Things got even more interesting when they posted a video Wednesday that included Justin Bieber’s name.

“I’d spend 10,000 hours and 10,000 more / Oh, if that’s what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours / And I might never get there, but I’m gonna try / If it’s 10,000 hours or the rest of my life / I’m gonna love you”

Smyers and Mooney co-wrote the song with Bieber alongside Jessie Jo Dillon, Jordan Reynolds and Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd. The track was also produced by Smyers and promises a lifetime of learning and loving as his and Mooney’s flawless harmonies trade verses with Bieber’s smooth vocals.

It’s probably safe to assume the inspiration for the song is from their own relationships. Bieber married Hailey Baldwin last week in South Carolina and both Mooney and Smyers were there with their wives, who have been the focus of many of their other songs.

To keep up with Dan + Shay, follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

“10,000 Hours” and other music from Dan + Shay is available where you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our “New Country Music” playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.
