Ashley McBryde Drops New Single “One Night Standards”

Ashley McBryde One Night Standards

Ashley McBryde has returned with yet another heartfelt, delicate aria; the first taste of a new project after the release of her highly acclaimed debut, Girl Going Nowhere. The Arkansas-native publicized the news on the same day she was announced as a nominee for “New Artist of the Year” at this year’s CMA Awards. Fellow musician, “Best Shot” singer-songwriter Jimmie Allen announced her nomination while McBryde blissfully confessed the details of her newest single, “One Night Standards,” the first single of her forthcoming sophomore album pending a release date in 2020.

The “Girl Going Nowhere” singer-songwriter has never been shy when discussing authentic content in her music. “One Night Standards,” written by McBryde, Shane McAnally, and Nicolette Hayford, divulges in the ground rules set for a boisterous, guilt-free night spent in a nondescript hotel room. The less known about one another, the better. McBryde dabbled around with the idea with Hayford in a writer’s room in East Nashville, “It ain’t something, I wanna spend a lot of time in, I ain’t gonna stay for the weekend..” before reintroducing the idea to McAnally a mere two years later when the trio released they had something special. “We had to walk away from it to give it a second to breathe,” she now reflects in a press release. “When we got back in a room, this time Shane [McAnally] was with us and I joked, ‘You know, hotel rooms…they only have one night stand for a reason. They’re one night stand-ers.’ Shane and Nic’s eyes lit up, ‘Did you just say one night standards?’”

The “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega” artist communicates the priority of not wanting nor expecting more than a one night fling singing: “It’s just a room key, you ain’t gotta lie to me / Can’t you just use me, like I’m using you / How it goes is, the bar closes / There’s no king bed covered in roses / Just a room, without a view / I don’t want a number you ain’t gonna answer / Let’s just stick to the one night standards”

McBryde debuted “One Night Standards” at her CMA Fan Club Party and the relevance of this heavily influenced bluesy, country rock anthem is apposite to all. She will continue to premiere her new single on her upcoming tour dates, as well as her appearances in the UK.

To keep up with Ashley McBryde follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Jill And Kate Release A Fun New Single Titled “Just Kiss Me”

Just kiss Me Jill and Kate

Nashville-based duo Jill and Kate are through with messing around. On their new single, “Just Kiss Me,” the pair is tired of a wishy-washy dude and are ready to take things out of the friend zone with one simple action: a kiss.

We’ve all been there, which makes the fun up-tempo track all the better. Here, they sing about a guy that’s always the go-to call or last drink, “dancing around” the obvious relationship that “everybody else knows [it] should be happening.” For some reason, they’re a simple lip lock away from the inevitable and the song invites the nervous (or oblivious) man to make his move.

“But you never make a move/ What you think you’re gonna lose?/ There’s really not much that you have to do/ Just kiss me/ How many signs do you need to see, see, see?/ Just kiss me/ Not like the world’s gonna end/ If you just lean in/ Kiss me/ Just kiss me.”

It’s bound to happen, so the girls are willing to wait it out. “We can wait another night,” They sing here. “But you know it’s gonna happen eventually.”

“Just Kiss Me” is a fun ear-worm of a track that’s sure to have you singing along within the first minute. The track also allows Jill and Kate to continue to show their diversity from previous releases. While “Just Kiss Me” is a pure pop song, previous releases include the country-influenced “Better,” the intensely powerful and personal “Nashville,” a lullabies album and an acoustic cover album that includes new takes on songs from the likes of Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, and Kelly Clarkson. One thing shines through on all of them, however, and that’s their unrivaled harmonies.

“We are SO EXCITED because our new song, ‘Just Kiss Me,’ just released TODAY and we want you to hear it! We’ve never shared this song before with anyone — we wrote it with Ben Goldsmith in Nashville, TN and it was produced by Luke DeJaynes and Seth Earnest. We feel SO LUCKY to work with awesome people who are talented, humble, and an absolute blast,” Jill and Kate said in an email. “This song will make you dance, make you want to roll your windows down…and maybe do a little kissing :)”

The independent singer-songwriters have appeared on a Swag Session and even invited NYCS’s own Stephanie and Christina on their “Girls Just Pod To Have Fun” podcast.

To keep up with Jill and Kate, follow them on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook.

“Just Kiss Me” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

NYCS First Impression Trisha Yearwood ‘Every Girl’

Trisha Yearwood

When it comes to the all-time great female vocalists in country music, it would be impossible to not mention Trisha Yearwood. Today (August 30), the songstress released her new album, Every Girl, her first original solo project since 2007’s Heaven, Heartache, and the Power of Love.

When speaking of the project, Yearwood reveals, “I like the songs that take me on a journey through a lot of different emotions. The theme of the album is it’s okay to be who you are no matter what. Sometimes, you’re playful. Sometimes, you’re frustrated. Sometimes, you’re sad. Sometimes, you’re happy. It’s okay. The album gave me permissions to be all of those things.”

Created with longtime collaborator and producer Garth Fundis, Every Girl is truly Yearwood at her finest, perfectly pairing her resplendent voice with powerful, yet relatable, lyrics and lush instrumentation. The album also features an array of Yearwood’s famous friends, including her husband Garth Brooks, Kelly Clarkson, and Don Henley, on background vocals, only further elevating the stellar collection of tracks.

The album opens with “Workin’ On Whiskey,” a slow-burn ballad that truly sets the mood for the album. Put simply, Yearwood’s delivery here is masterful. Her vocals are only further complemented here by background vocals from Clarkson, who adds a beautiful layer of high harmonies that send the song soaring even further into the stratosphere. Look for Clarkson to appear again on “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know,” a heartbreaking tale of ill-fated love. “Tell me something I don’t know/ This winds gonna have to blow/ I know you’re only trying to help,” Yearwood agonizes. “But I will find out for myself/ I know your heart’s in the right place/ But I can make my own mistakes/ It’s gonna hurts when he lets go/ Tell me something I don’t know.”

The album is far from a collection of sad songs, however, as evidenced immediately on the Motown-esque “Find A Way,” originally recorded by Lucie Silvas on her stellar 2015 release, Letters to Ghosts. Likewise, the collection’s first single, and title track, is an up-tempo country bop that every girl can relate to. “Every girl in this town’s had a Friday night / That ended in tears under the yellow porch light / Thinking it was love / But it was only seventeen,” Yearwood sings. “And we dance / And we laugh ’til we all fall down / We keep kissing boys trying to figure it out / Stretching for stars on our tiptoe hearts trying to get our big dreams off the ground / Like every girl in this town.”

“Drink Up” is Yearwood’s closest foray into the genre of party songs, inviting listeners to lift a cup and celebrate life. While she may be encouraging raising a cup and drinking up, the song is truly a metaphor for embracing where your life is now, and embracing that. “Sip it, Chug it, Shoot it, Raise it, High / Don’t waste it / Taste every drop of this life / Yeah, toast it / Chase it down ’til it’s dry / Drink up / Whatever you got in your cup/ drink up.”

There are other stand out tracks on the album, including “Matador,” which shows Yearwood as the consummate storyteller on this darker story song. There’s also “Bible and a .44,” originally recorded by Ashley McBryde, that Yearwood dedicates to the memory of her late father, as well as the moving “Home,” originally recorded by Bonnie Raitt in 1977.

Yearwood pairs with husband, Garth Brooks, on the sultry “What Gave Me Away,” which she tells People is about “an intimate moment between two people. I couldn’t imagine asking anyone else to sing on this song except Garth. He’s my person. He’s my crush.”

One of the album’s most poignant and powerful moments comes on the album’s final track, “Love You Anyway.” Here, Yearwood enlists “Walkaway Joe” collaborator Don Henley. While Brooks may be her soulmate, Henley just may be her vocal soulmate, their voices harmonizing in a way that is absolutely ethereal. No matter what happens in this relationship, the pair sing of undying love over a haunting piano melody, “So break my faith, forget my name, either way, it’s, all the same, / You’re my first word / You’re my last breath / My will to live / When nothing’s left / Tear this heart right out of me / Lock it up and lose the key / Curse my name when you kneel to pray / I’m gonna love you anyway.”

When speaking on the new album, Yearwood says, “I’m so grateful the songs were there. I found 14 tunes I couldn’t live without. You want people to recognize you as an artist, but you also want to take them somewhere they haven’t necessarily been with you before….I’d love for people to be as moved by the songs as I was when I recorded them,” Yearwood says. “I’ve never experienced more joy in the studio.”

And that joy shines through on every track on the album. Yearwood may have found 14 tunes she couldn’t live without, but she also gave listeners 14 songs that WE couldn’t live without.

In support of Every Girl, Yearwood performed on The Today Show yesterday and will headline her own solo tour for the first time in five years, kicking off October 3rd. She’ll hit New York’s Town Hall Theater on Thursday, November 21.

Craig Morgan Drops Powerful Song “The Father, My Son and The Holy Ghost”

Craig Morgan

It’s been just a little over three years since Craig Morgan and his family had to deal with the terrible reality of his son, Jerry, dying in a tubing accident on a lake close to their house. The nineteen-year-old was one of four children and in the wake of their loss, Morgan and his family have grieved, keeping their faith as a cornerstone in their lives.

Today (Aug 30th) he releases his first new music in three years, a song written solely by Morgan, that honors not only his son but the faith he has used to get him through this horrific time and the belief that he will see Jerry again one day. “The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost” while a slow ballad, is inspirational, telling the story of what Morgan deals with and has overcome in the aftermath of losing Jerry. “But the pain of this was more than I’d ever felt before, yeah I was broke” he croons in the second verse, only to continue the process of crying and turning that emotion around to praying to God and finally little by little receiving hope.

“In the mornings I wake up give her a kiss, head to the kitchen / Pour a cup of wake me up and try to rouse up some ambition / Go outside sit by myself but I ain’t alone / I got The Father and my son and the Holy Ghost”

The listener is brought along on this ride with Morgan filled with anguish and sadness as he closes out the track with the lyrics, “One day I’ll wake up and I’ll be home, with The Father, my son, and The Holy Ghost.” In his delivery, you feel the agony as well as the confidence and conviction that he knows his son is no longer with him on Earth but that he is not gone.

Back in 2017 Morgan debuted The Gallery at Morgan Farms, a family-owned and operated a farm-to-home business in his hometown of Dickson, TN. The store features a variety of artisan items handmade by him and his family.

The Best Country Mother/Son Dance Songs For Weddings

Whether you’re at the beginning or final stages of wedding planning you’ve probably thought about your first dance with your significant other and what song will be playing. But what about the parent dances? We’ve put together a list of the best mother and son dance songs.

1) “My Wish” – Rascal Flatts

Written by Jeffery Steele and Steve Robson, “My Wish” has been a popular mother and son dance song since it came out in 2006. A song about wishing someone a great future filled with love, it’s what every mom would want for their son as they start a new chapter of their life.

“My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to\ Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small\ You never need to carry more than you can hold”

2) “ I Hope You Dance” – Lee Ann Womack

Every mom wants their son to fulfill their dreams whatever they may be and not to give up when times get tough. This Grammy-winning song, written by Mark D. Sanders and Tia Sillers shares that message perfectly.

“Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens\ Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance/ And when you get the chance to sit it out or dance/ I hope you dance, I hope you dance”

3) “Like Jesus Does” – Eric Church

Moms are known for never giving up on their children, no matter what and that’s the message that “Like Jesus Does” shares. Written by Casey Beathard and Monty Criswell, the song is a perfect way to honor your mom for always being there even through the hard times.

“Yes, she knows the man I ain’t/ She forgives me when I can’t\ That devil, man, he don’t stand a chance/ She loves me like Jesus does”

4) “Boy” – Lee Bryce

Written by our Woman of the Month, Nicolle Galyon and Jon Nite “Boy” is the perfect song about raising a son and watching him go through life’s journeys ending with him falling in love.

“But boy, you’re gonna come back home\ You’re gonna settle down\ But you won’t feel the way I’m feelin’ now/ Til you have a boy”

5) “Don’t Blink”- Kenny Chesney

Written by Casey Beathard and Chris Wallin, the song tells the story of how quickly life goes by and to enjoy each moment with the ones you love because before you know it, you’ll be dancing at your wedding getting ready to start your own family.

“Don’t Blink / Just like that you’re six years old and you take a nap / And you wake up and you’re twenty-five / And your high school sweetheart becomes your wife”

6) “Simple Man” – Lynyrd Skynard

What son doesn’t go to his mom for advice? Written by Gary Rossington and Ronnie Van Zant, this is a great way to thank mom for being your go-to person for help for in any situation, big or small.

“Oh, take your time, don’t live too fast / Troubles will come and they will pass / You’ll find a woman and you’ll find love / And don’t forget son, there is someone up above”

7) “The Best Day” – Taylor Swift

Written by Taylor Swift, “The Best Day” is an excellent tribute to your mom that recognizes all of the great memories you shared and how much you cherish spending time with her.

“And I didn’t know if you knew / So I’m taking this chance to say / That I had the best day with you today”

8) “Humble and Kind” – Tim McGraw

Written by Lori McKenna for her five children, “Humble and Kind” is the perfect song to honor the woman who has had a large part in making you into the man you are today.

“Hold the door, say “please”, say “thank you” / Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie / I know you got mountains to climb / But always stay humble and kind”

9) “Like My Mother Does” – Lauren Alaina

Written by Liz Rose, Nathan Chapman, and Nicole Williams, this is a great song to recognize all of the great traits that your mom passed on to you.

“I’ve got her spirit / She’s always got my back / When I look at her / I think I want to be just like that.”

10) “He Gets That From Me” – Reba

Written by Phillip White and Steven Dale Jones, “He Gets That From Me” has a significant double meaning. It’s not only another great choice to thank your mom for giving you traits of hers, but it’s also a great way for the two of you to honor your late father.

“Tells me he loves me every day / And cracks jokes at the perfect time / Makes me laugh when I want to cry /  That boy is everything to me / He gets that from you”

No matter what song you pick for your mother-son dance, it’s sure to make a memory you will never forget.

New York’s Country 94.7’s Up Close & Country With Kane Brown

Yesterday, Kane Brown participated in Up Close & Country with New York’s Country 94.7 at their new studios and sang all four of his number one hits. He also talked with DJ and on-air personality Katie Neal about his wife Katelyn and their unborn baby girl. After Neal congratulated the singer-songwriter on his big news, she asked who picked the name Kingsley and Brown explained that if it was a boy, they had decided on Kingston, so they wanted to keep a similar theme and landed on Kinglsey.

They also discussed his latest collaboration with EDM DJ Marshemello, “One Right Thing” which Brown had written but didn’t make his latest album, Experiment. After reading through the lyrics, Marshmello came up with the instrumentals and after taking out the banjos out, it was perfect. Neal then suggested his next collaboration should be with pop/R&B artist Lizzo.

“I think the first time you’ve played Up Close & Country for us was a little over two years ago and I was thinking about it, at the end of the interview I asked ‘What’s your goal for 2017 and what are you excited about?’ and before I could even finish you were like ‘I just want a number one at country radio, and now you have four,” Neal stated. “Which has been so cool to just watch you rise up and succeed so, thank you for coming back and doing this again, we are so happy to have you.”

Kane Brown NYCountry 947

After the short interview, Brown performed his biggest hits starting off with “What Ifs” and going right into his current single at country radio, “Homesick”. Before singing “Homesick” he explained the song was inspired by him being away from home and missing his wife, his dogs, and his family and friends. “After I wrote it I was trying to think of other people who could relate to the song, the first people that popped in my head was the military if y’all know anybody that are serving for us, if y’all are serving for us, I love you all, and thank you all for everything that you do.” The singer-songwriter engaged with the studio audience of winners asking them how they were feeling and talked about his beer of choice, Bud Light, which he was drinking during his performance.

He continued with his other number one hits including “Good As You”, “Lose It” and closed with a perfect rendition of “Heaven” where Brown encouraged the studio audience to sing along during the chorus. For fans who missed out, you can head Northwell Health at Jones Beach next Friday night (September 6th) to catch Kane Brown in his role as direct support for Jason Aldean on the Ride All Night Tour. For tickets and more info click here.

Olivia Lane Performs “Perfect Skin” on NBC’s Songland

Olivia Lane Songland

Singer-songwriter and Houston native, Olivia Lane pitched her song “Perfect Skin” to featured artist, Leona Lewis last night on NBC’s Songland. Her song, however, was not chosen to record. Lewis instead selected “Solo Quiero (Somebody To Love)”, written by Rozee.

“Perfect Skin” made significant changes from when she first presented it to Leona and the producers. It started as a slow, piano ballad but after working in the studio with Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer, Ester Dean, the song transformed into an up-tempo, EDM song. You can watch her Songland performance here!

“When your scars are who you are / and your flaws are where you’ve been / You’re beautiful / You don’t have to have perfect skin”

“I got to Nashville in 2013 and played every possible gig that I could,” Lane recalled. “I wasn’t taking care of myself, I wasn’t feeling beautiful, I wasn’t feeling strong and was just kind of defeated, so I wrote this song,” Lane explained.  “A lot of people struggle with self-image, so to have great, positive message to little girls, big girls; this song is perfect for Leona and just perfect for the world right now,” Dean praised.

We got to know Lane better when she was featured in one of our Swag Sessions in October of last year. You can tell by the way she presented herself on Songland that she is very passionate about music and songwriting. When Lewis chose her song to move onto the next portion of the show, Lane displayed the most ecstatic look on her face, skipped/danced off stage and screamed in excitement when the door closed behind her.

Songland gives four songwriters the opportunity to enjoy the spotlight for a change, allowing them to pitch their song to already established artists, like Leona Lewis. It demonstrates the long, complicated process that is involved with songwriting.

Although you will not hear Lewis’ rendition of “Perfect Skin”, you can listen to Lane’s original version anywhere you buy or stream music as well as other tracks by Lane, including her most recent EP, The One.

To keep up with Olivia Lane follow her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Midland Celebrate CMA Nominations and Perform on TODAY

In the middle of Rockefeller Center on an early Wednesday morning, Carson Daly and the Today Show hosted one of the most prominent upcoming artists in the industry. Midland joined Daly on stage before they performed where he shared some exciting news. “They just released their new album Let It Roll on the 23rd…and man guys things have just been happening for you. Congratulations on all the success. And another little breaking news story this morning, the CMA nominations just came out this morning and you have been nominated for CMA New Artist of the Year” Daly said as the Texas-natives stood there in awe. Along with being in the New Artist category, they are also nominated for Vocal Group of the Year. Check out all of the other nominees here.

Channeling their excitement right into their performance, live on the CITI Stage, they performed “Mr. Lonely,” the first single off their new album. Accompanied by a drummer and back-up guitar, the boys played their hearts out of this song that left fans, and hosts, dancing along on all sides of the stage. Between wearing their featured cowboy hats, real cowboy boots, and signature mustaches, and a classic country tune, the trio added a little country flair to New York this morning. Just like past songs, “Mr. Lonely” channels the roots of country music they grew up with. Paying homage to their honky-tonk heroes, Midland delivers an upbeat, toe-tapping, good timing song that will be played in honky-tonks all over the country for years to come.

All of the morning show hosts joined the boys on stage after the set to congratulate the band on all their recent success and nominations. You can catch the honkey-tonk heroes themselves and all the action when Midland comes back to New York on September 17th at Terminal 5.
You can follow along with Midland on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
