Thomas Rhett Thanks God in New Song, “Ya Heard”

Thomas Rhett Ya Heard

One of the only things that are still keeping our spirits up at this time is artists continuing to release new music. Whether they play it sitting at home on their couch on a live stream or artists that are going ahead with their release dates on streaming platforms that were previously recorded, we can look to music right now as a comfort.

Thomas Rhett who has been quarantined with his wife Lauren, and three daughters, including a newborn has taken time to sing a new song, “Ya Heard” for his social media following. Rhett has a way of including personal details in his biggest hits but fans always resonate and make each line of the songs relate to their own lives. “Ya Heard” has a similar story to one of Garth Brooks’ biggest hits of all time, “Unanswered Prayers”.

“There’s been times where I thought that my prayers never made it past the ceiling, much less the sky and I’ve had doubts and questions about my faith but I don’t really even know why or how”

Rhett sings about three crucial facets of his life, marrying the love of his life Lauren, becoming a hit songwriter and artist and finally having the family he longed for. Each verse he looks at his life and is sure that God heard his prayers. The final verse, focusing on infertility and their story of adopting Willa Gray then finding out they were pregnant with Ada James is so personal but culminates in the most beautiful ending.

“People say you’ve got a way of being pretty funny while you make us wait, cause I look at these babies crawling up on me, the ones that I bothered you about since I was 23, ya I know that I wasn’t wasting breath or words cause I look at them and I look at her, more than I deserve yeah I’m pretty sure ya heard”

If artists continue to release new music, we will continue to love it and support it. Check out this new one by Luke Combs, “Six Feet Apart” and Rhett’s collaboration “Be A Light” where proceeds are donated to COVID-19 relief.

To keep up with Thomas Rhett, follow him on TwitterInstagram, and Facebook.

Harper Grae Releases “Best For You” Along with Adorable Proposal Video

Harper Grae Best For You

Harper Grae is in love.

Born Shanna Henderson in Montgomery, Alabama, Grae first danced into the spotlight after landing a spot on The Glee Project, a reality show combined talent competition produced by the creators of Glee, after auditioning for Ryan Murphy. She moved to Los Angeles and sang prominent pop songs before being eliminated nine weeks in. Shortly after, the female powerhouse moved to Nashville and released debut album Break Your Crowns, emotionally-stricken, autobiographical about the singer’s hardships during childhood Buck Moon Medleys, love designated “Wanna Wear A Dress” and latest love song released this April “Best For You.”

“Best For You” is everything you could ask for in a love song. Grae’s delicate vocal competence complements the elegance of the ebony and ivory. Its acoustic label stands embossed as she sings that she has saved her very best for you.

The debut of the single coincides with a homemade proposal video of the songstress proposing to her girlfriend and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, at home, after a change of plans due to the coronavirus. The proposal was planned to take place after Grae completed the St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Nashville Marathon scheduled for the end of April. She stated, “Once it was apparent COVID-19 was going to continue to shake things up for the world, I knew I wanted to get creative and plan something special for us at home.”

The country singer + songwriter shared the news of her engagement on her Instagram shortly after releasing her latest single saying, “A quarantine proposal – Best For You. I made this video to put a bright spot in y’alls day during this crazy time. Here’s a glimpse of our story to a song I wrote shortly after falling in love. PS I’M ENGAGED. Ring: @shanecompany // Co-writers @lenastonemusic & @cdwprod // Favorite Nashville spot @hocnashville // LOML: @dawn_gates #aislegowithgates // Artwork @natalieroseart // Homemade video: Me.”

Ryan Hurd Drops Nostalgia Filled Track, “Every Other Memory”

Ryan Hurd Every Other Memory

Although happily married, celebrating the recent birth of his son, Ryan Hurd is one of the best at emoting on a breakup track. Released today, “Every Other Memory” celebrates the vivid pictures one holds on to after a meaningful relationship has come to an end.

“‘Every Other Memory’ just feels like such a nostalgic track,” said Hurd in a recent press release. “It’s so cool because it feels like each line in the song is almost like an emoji. It’s a feeling and it’s a picture that you can just really grab onto. The way the words came out, it just felt like each picture was really amazing.”

Ryan Hurd Every Other Memory

The midtempo jam starts off with specific recollections of the first love feelings, where certain smells or songs bright you right back to that moment. Hurd co-wrote “Every Other Memory” with Nathan Spicer and Cole Taylor and throughout the song, there are incredible displays of clever wordplay and imagery such as “…and even though it’s over, you’re still playing hard to forget” and “Every other memory is you and me, wrapped up in the summer, there will never be another”.

Hurd’s delivery only adds to the nostalgia, his voice infuses the struggle of getting over someone. “Every Other Memory” is the first taste of new music from the singer-songwriter since his Platonic EP which was released late last year.

NYCS Swag Spotlight: Ron Pope

Ron Pope

This week we shine our spotlight on a talented singer-songwriter who writes from his heart, Ron Pope. Although a talented singer and an incredible songwriter Pope is first and foremost a doting father and husband. His life experiences and journey has led him to be able to share his stories with a wider audience, but he still remains humble and true to his soul.

The country-rock, soul singer, was born in the Northeast in Newark, New Jersey, but moved to Georgia after his parents divorced. Despite an avid interest in music from a young age, Pope never focused on music as a career or even knew any ‘real’ musicians. “I was always making music,” he tells us, “but it was something I did for fun.” That hobby turned into a way to hang out with his friends, during his teenage years.

He ended up starting his very first band ‘Longfellow,’ while in high school. Together, they played at a dive bar where having fun was the first priority. “We were embarrassingly bad, but it was a laugh,” he shared, “We’d get rip-roaring drunk in the parking lot and then get up on stage and let it ride.” Despite the nature of performing, Pope and his friends were on to something in their younger days.

The singer ended up taking music more seriously, during his third year of college, when he joined a songwriting circle. Although he had been writing music for several years prior, with the encouragement from the older kids in the group, he began to take it more seriously. “That was when I started to consider the idea that I might be a songwriter. Being a songwriter felt different than just being someone who wrote songs.”

Flash forward to today, Pope creates music with a songwriter first mentality. Taking inspiration from various musical influences from the classic rock genre like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd, and R&B artists like Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, and Eric Clapton, the singer has truly created his own unique cocktail of music. He also draws inspiration from other greats like Elvis and Johnny Cash. Interestingly enough, Pope also credits famed rapper Tupac as an integral influence. “The way he used pieces of words to keep his phrasing incredibly rhythmic was pretty revelatory to me when I was starting out as a writer,” he shares.

Pope’s unique and eclectic influences have surely manifested in his own music. Most recently, he released a personal record entitled Bone Structure. Even after just one listen it is evident how honest, gritty, emotive, and talented he truly is as a singer and as a songwriter. After a traumatic event occurred in his life, where his driver was attacked by masked men just minutes after he walked inside his house to his baby girl and wife, the singer decided to scrap his original finished project.

The terrifying event shifted his focus and perspective in such a profound way. “I couldn’t shake the terror for a long time afterwards. There’s nothing like fearing for your child,” he vulnerably shares, “I couldn’t get away from the idea that if I were to die, I wouldn’t be there to talk to my daughter when she needed advice as she grew up.” From that point on, he focused on writing and recording a record for what he called, “an audience of one.” The entire Bone Structure project was directed towards his daughter, as he recounts past experiences and lessons learned in each of the fifteen songs, leaving no stone unturned and nothing off limits. Despite his checkered past and various challenges, Pope lays it all out in an honest and pure way for his daughter.

Even though Bone Structure is receiving accolades and media attention, Pope remains humble. Regardless of the praise or admiration his songs receive, he remains unequivocally true to himself and yearns to create music that embraces human connection. “Music has always helped me feel less alone in the world and more connected to those around me,” he says, “If my music can do that for other people, then maybe I’m helping in my tiny way and that feels like something worth doing.” We are sure his music is accomplishing that feat.

As we head into the second half of 2020, Pope, like most of us, does not have a plan. Though the future may be uncertain, the singer how vowed to appreciate the joy in every day and try to quiet the darker moments that can sometimes cloud our heads. When the time is right, Pope would love to be back on the road playing music with friends, but until then, he remains exactly where he should be, with his biggest inspirations, his wife and daughter.

To keep up with Ron Pope follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Kacey Musgraves & Keith Urban Perform on Global Citizen Live Stream

On Saturday night, April 19th, 2020, Global Citizen put together a star-studded live stream concert to benefit COVID-19 relief all around the world, One World Together At Home. Global Citizen, well known for its in-person, free admission festivals, made sure that the event was accessible to everyone, streaming it on twitter and multiple channels on cable TV. Pop superstar Lady Gaga curated the entire event, and Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel hosted. The night was filled with music, public service announcements, and most of all, hope.

Lady Gaga opened and closed the show, and there were multiple performances that were really powerful. Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the late Bill Withers, singing a mashup of “Lean On Me” and “Love Can Make It Right”. He accompanied himself on the piano, his signature instrument, and he sounded as good as ever. Sir Paul McCartney performed as well, telling everyone at home that we need to “strengthen healthcare systems all over the world so a crisis like this never happens again”, and he also gave a “sincere thank you to those risking their lives [to get] people through this crazy time.” The Rolling Stones performed “You Can’t Get What You Want” via zoom, and it was one of the highlights of the night. Between Mick Jagger’s electric vocal performance and Charlie Watts electronic air drum show, it was equal parts impressive and joyful.

One of the standout performances of the night was when Kacey Musgraves sang her reassuringly beautiful song “Rainbow” on the piano. It was the first time fans had gotten to see her play the piano; she usually plays guitar and banjo on stage. It was an extremely vulnerable moment, as the lyrics and the melody made everyone remember that “it’ll all be alright”. While she was singing, there were powerful pictures displayed of people drawing rainbows on their doors and putting post-it notes on their windows, all relaying the universal message that there is beauty out there in the world. “It’s gonna be alright,” Musgraves said, smiling into the camera. “Stay strong.”

There were cameos throughout the night from many famous faces, such as former First Lady Michelle Obama, Beyoncè, Mayor DeBlasio, Billy Ray Cyrus, Oprah, and even Sesame Street character Abby Cadabby. They honored the first responders, healthcare workers, and those working on the frontlines during this other-worldly time.

Keith Urban surprised fans with a cover of Steve Winwood’s hit “Higher Love”, complete with three Urban “clones”, where he harmonized with himself on guitar and vocals. At the end of his upbeat performance, Nicole Kidman stepped into the camera to say her thank-yous to the first responders.

Taylor Swift was one of the last performances of the night, and she sang her deeply personal album cut “Soon You’ll Get Better” on the piano. It was one of the best and most raw performances of the night, and it took a lot of bravery from Swift to sing it. It was clear that she was holding back tears as she sang, “soon you’ll get better… ‘cuz you have to.”

It’s a strange time to be living in the world. It’s not like anything most of us have ever experienced, and luckily, there is music and art that can provide solace and shelter when we need it most. Some artists may choose to push back projects or releases, others are creating more than ever and sharing their art with the world. Music can heal, and it’s proof that nobody’s alone in this right now.

The entire event can be seen below.

Musicares and ACM Lifting Lives are two organizations among many doing amazing work to provide COVID relief. Stay safe, and remember, Kindness Isn’t Canceled.

Kenny Chesney Is Honoring “Guys Named Captain” in New Track

Guys Named Captain Kenny Chesney

The summer-lovin’ captain of The No Shoes Nation just released a single to acknowledge the abundance of commanders of the sea that are “tucked into a table in a corner, or sitting near the far end of the bar.” Kenny Chesney recognizes the experiences and stories that these sailors have to tell with “Guys Named Captain”.

“The adventures they’ve had, places they’ve gone, the way they live their life for the sea… Free spirit might be too restricting a label for them.” Chesney reveals in a press statement.  “There’s nobody more loyal or more committed to their friends. Hell-raisers, heartbreakers, poets, pirates, they dream on the water and carry themselves with a whole other kind of strength. And it’s all in the song…”

There’s not an artist more equipped than Chesney to present this song. It wouldn’t be too far off to guess that this muscle-tank-beach-concert enthusiast spends just as much time on the water than on land. He just oozes liquid paradise with an umbrella on top.

This is not the first time Chesney appreciates the big blue in lyric. For instance, in Cosmic Hallelujah, his seventeenth studio album, “Trip Around the Sun” opens up with “’Cause there ain’t no other place than on the sea I’d rather be”. “Pirate Song” from the 2018 Song for the Saints album acts as a first-person fantasy that dreams of becoming one where the ocean is home. Though, “Guys Named Captain” exists entirely to recognize those special people.

“Every one of the guys in this song, every one of the people I’ve met in the islands, Key West, Mexico and even on the road, they’re all very different – except how much they love the water or the road,” Chesney says. “This song feels like it distills their soul into just a few lines…”

In preparation for the Here and Now album set to release May 1, the third single “Guys Named Captain” is here to send you offshore and anchor your ears to the bottom of the ocean. Lyrically, though, it will have you searching for those sun-kissed, rugged characters hanging around the coast with a sparkle in their eye.

Brett Eldredge Surprises Fans With Three Brand New Songs

Brett Eldredge

It’s been almost three years since Brett Eldredge released his self-titled LP. On his 2017 project, he sang about his relationship with his brother, love gone wrong, and anxiety getting the best of him. It was his most vulnerable collection of work yet. That is, until now. After his album cycle was over, he took some time to find himself. After a lot of soul searching and traveling around the world, Eldredge ended up back home in Chicago, IL, where his fifth LP Sunday Drive (out July 10th) was born. Today, April 17th, three tracks off the album became available for fans everywhere.

The lead single is the nostalgic, wistful, poppy piano-driven “Gabrielle”. It’s the track most similar to his previous work. Written by Eldredge, Ian Fitchuk and Daniel Tashian, it talks about a lost love that you still can’t shake from your memory. “[The relationship] could’ve ended up being something amazing and you wonder what they’re doing in life right now,” Eldredge said in a press release. On a song like “Crowd My Mind”, co-written with Ross Copperman, you hear a new-found detail and personality in the lyrics. “So broke, you could see through me/Wouldn’t know me if you knew me/Been eight months since November/But you’re all I can remember,” he sings heartily on the second verse. There’s a clear influence of Frank Sinatra on both songs, and there’s something about the new music that sounds somewhat reminiscent of Glen Campbell and Kenny Rogers, with the big choruses and storytelling verses.

“I think you have to give yourself permission to do anything in life, to be brave a little bit,” Eldredge says. “I got to a certain point where I was doing something in repetition and it was all really good… but I felt like I wasn’t giving enough of myself. It took a lot of self-awareness to finally realize that if I do really have a lot more in me, then I’ve got to step up and I’ve got to take that step off the edge. And I think enough time of doing it the same way made me realize it’s time to do it big.”

The self-reflection that Eldredge is describing pours throughout each song, most notably on Track 1 of Sunday Drive. “Where the Heart Is”, written by Eldredge, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Tyler Johnson is a mid-tempo singer/songwriter cut about finding the heart of life and the heart inside all of us. “Where’d you lose your sense of wonder? / The firework goin’ off in your head / ’Cause there was a time we weren’t thinkin’, we were flyin’ / We were alive / I wanna feel alive.” It’s the type of song one sinks into, it’s so honest. There is something cathartic about the more-true-than-ever words, Eldredge’s soaring voice and Tashian and Fitchuk’s driving production.

Eldredge’s new sound is a lot more singer-songwriter and rootsy, in partial to his soul-searching and his pairing with Tashian and Fitchuk, who are responsible for Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour and Little Big Town’s Nightfall. Together, the three created a sound that is the perfect mix of mainstream country and triple-a singer/songwriter. Lyrically and sonically, this is Eldredge at his best.

If this is the record that Brett Eldredge hopes to find himself on, then so far he is succeeding. If these three songs seem to be an indication of what the remaining project is like, fans are in for an authentic ride through his life. Eldredge wants to feel alive: and this era has him more alive and more himself than ever.

To keep up with Brett Eldredge, follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Sunday Drive, due July 10th, is available for pre-order here.

Who Is Teddy Robb? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Teddy Robb? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Teddy Robb EP

The Beginning:

Since we named Teddy Robb one of our 2019 Artists To Watch and featured him as a Swag Spotlight back in 2018, it seems he has blossomed into a rising star just before our eyes. Over the last couple of years, Robb has garnered a fanbase of loyal fans and continues to gain more and more momentum. Today, he released his highly anticipated self-titled debut EP.

Although the record features four previously released songs and only one new track, the EP is the perfect mix of songs to personify Robb’s talent, charisma, and personality. Beginning with the newest released single, “Me On You,” the country crooner sings about the power of love and its similarity to an addiction. The ambiguity within the lyrics is both enticing and captivating, everything a good song should be. The consistent drums only add to the stylized track.

The Turning Point:

Robb continues to showcase his brand of country music with a new track entitled “Good Love and Good Whiskey.” The flirtatious song is the perfect addition to the singer’s catalog. Robb compares good love to good alcohol in the new song. The feel-good track is begging for a catchy and clever music video to accompany it.

What kinda fool leaves his top-shelf sitting on ice / Watch 90 proof lose its smooth / Baby that just ain’t right / Same kinda guy who brings his girl to the bar with guys like me around / Who knows good love and good whiskey ain’t good watered down”

Today:

Of course, the self-titled project also features the songs that put Robb on the map, including “Lead Me On,” “Tell Me How,” and “Really Shouldn’t Drink Around You.” The first is arguably one of the best on the project. “Lead Me On,” his debut single, is a song about a clever narrative in that push-pull type of relationship. Despite the repercussions, the gravitational pull is too strong to deny. In the same vein, “Really Shouldn’t Drink Around You” admits that drinking around an ex is not the best idea, but remains weak to that notion. Written by top wordsmiths, Shane McAnally, Trevor Rosen, and Joshua Osborne, the song is definitely a standout track.

You say that we can be friends / But, hey, let’s be honest / There ain’t really no such thing / As gin and platonic”

On the other hand, “Tell Me How” is the lone, somber ballad off the project. A necessary departure from the other tunes, Robb lays his heart out on the line for fans, with his vocals, and with his songwriting. The break-up track explains how difficult coping with heartache can be, as Robb begs an ex to show him how to get over her. This song proves that the singer shines just as bright on emotive and intricate songs, and we hope for more songs like this one on a future full-length project.

To keep up with Teddy Robb follow him on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

NYCS First Impression: Adam Doleac ‘Famous’ EP

Adam Doleac Famous EP

In October of 2017, our very first LIVE Swag Session featured none other than Adam Doleac, and in 2018, we named him as one of our Artists to Watch. Today, nearly three years since that first Swag Session, Doleac has released his Famous – EP with Sony Music Nashville.

The six-song collection features a handful of previously released tracks, including “Famous,” “Whiskey’s Fine,” and a new version of “Mom and Daddy’s Money.” Doleac also included the sultry “Neon Fools” and the mid-tempo ode to not going home alone, “Solo.”

The EP also features the driving new track, “I Choose Lonely,” one of the collection’s highlights. “If it ain’t you/ If it can’t be you/ Then maybe I choose lonely,” He sings. “I’ve never been so sure of being so damn sure of something/ And if what you got ain’t what I get then I don’t want nothing/ If it ain’t you/ Then baby maybe I choose lonely.”

While some of the EP’s other tracks may have been previously released, they include Doleac’s brilliant breakthrough hit “Whiskey’s Fine,” which features the brilliant play on words, inviting someone to “Come on in, the whiskey is fine.”

There’s also the newly recorded version of his independent release. “Mom and Daddy’s Money,” which is a piano-driven ballad telling the coming of age tale of him realizing everything his parents sacrificed and gave him. “The older I got/ The more I saw,” He admits here, “This whole time it was time they bought/ They looked out for me/ Til I didn’t need/ Mom and Daddy’s Mommy.” Doleac is at his best here, honest and heartfelt, flipping the last verse to give back to the parents that gave him so much. “Now I know where it came from/ And I know what it meant/ I know it’s hard to come by and easy to spend/ When time’s get tough/ Man I’ll never tell/ I’ll go through hell so they can live/ In the land of milk and honey/ Mom and Daddy’s money.”

Charlie Puth Joins Gabby Barrett for New Version of “I Hope”

I Hope Charlie Puth

The unstoppable Gabby Barrett is about to make history. She is on the brink of scoring her first #1 on country radio: her debut single, “I Hope” has been climbing the chart for the past year and her hard work is paying off. To celebrate the success of “I Hope”, Barrett surprised fans by releasing a remix of the jam featuring pop singer-songwriter Charlie Puth. Together, the two fuse Barrett’s medium of country and r&b with Puth’s signature pop and hip-hop sound to create a new take on the ground-breaking song.

Barrett takes the first verse and chorus, her voice sailing on the electric guitar hook. Puth takes the second verse and chorus, and he is able to make it feel completely different. His voice is crisp, and he changes the lyrics and narrative to fit a guy’s perspective. “Yeah, babe, I hope he shows up in a 2 am pic with your friends / Hanging onto a girl to just rub it in / I hope you stay up all night all alone waiting by the phone / And then he calls,” he sings moodily. When he sings on the chorus, he is able to show off his incredible range, belting and pouring every emotion into the performance.

“I Hope” is all dressed up this time around, with a dance track and snap beat guiding the song along. Barrett has the pipes of a pop star, so the collaboration feels perfectly natural and is perfect for pop radio. Puth is known for his songs on heartbreak and what it feels like to be done wrong, and the two not only blend well together sonically but are able to portray that feeling of bitterness, true sadness, and animosity. This remix without a doubt will be a crossover smash.

Barrett will be the first female artist since Carly Pearce (2017) to have her debut single go #1; she is topping the Billboard Country Streaming Songs chart, making her the first female country artist to do so since Miranda Lambert (2015); and her single has surpassed over 60 million streams on Spotify. For any artist’s first single, these accomplishments are other-worldly. But it’s even more meaningful that it’s happening to a deserving woman like Barrett.

Right now the world is at a standstill, but at the same time, much-needed change is happening. Ingrid Andress, another new female artist, is about to have a #1 song with her poignant “More Hearts Than Mine”. Andress and Barrett are about to change the game for so many other talented and driven artists — in fact, they already have. They’re bringing something else to the table right now as well, and that’s hope. A year ago, having two debut singles by women reach the top 5 was unheard of. Barrett is proof that things do change; will change, and it’s nice to have some good news these days.

To keep up with Gabby Barrett, you can follow her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

“I Hope” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.
