Thomas Rhett Teams Up with His Dad, Rhett Akins, on “Things Dads Do”
Thomas Rhett and his Dad, Rhett Akins teamed up on a brand new song just in time for Father’s Day. “Things Dads Do” is available now, June 16th, on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new song.
When Thomas Rhett played at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this week, he was able to not only share the stage with his Dad, Rhett Akins, but he was also able to make a special announcement, with his dad by his side. Rhett announced he’d be releasing a new song (available now) called “Things Dads Do”, a song the father and son co-wrote together. He then played an acoustic version of the song, which you can watch here.
“Things Dads Do” comes just in time for Father’s Day. As one of our favorite country music Dads, we love how real and personal Rhett has been with writing about his family over the last few years, and this is just another example, with a special ode to his own dad.
“Things Dads Do” looks back on all the things that your dad used to do when you were a kid and covers everything he’s done for you over the years as you grew up, right up to the moment when you become a parent yourself and finally understand why they did everything they did. Rhett is already a dad of three girls, with one more on the way. Reflecting on his own life and parenthood in the song, which includes looking back on his own childhood and what his parents did for him, comes naturally in his songwriting.
“The next thing you know one’s five and one’s three // and one’s almost one and she’s cutting her teeth // and you’re in his shoes // and you’re starting to // do more than a few things dads do”
