Tiffany Woys: ‘I’m Your Woman – EP Review

When we first introduced you to Tiffany Woys, she was a powerhouse singer who believed in championing the songwriter by only releasing outside cuts. While she is still a huge champion for songwriters, Woys is now embarking on her own songwriting journey in hopes that people may find songs that they relate to. Woys’ new project, I’m Your Woman may have been out of heartbreak, but each of the eight songs are truly her best work to date.

The project takes the listener through a journey of pain and healing. The first song, “The Only One I’ve Got” sets the tone for the record, reminding suitors to be gentle with her heart because she only has one. Woys’ voice continues to shine through on “Fool Me Once” and “You and Country Music.” On the former, the songstress showcases her vulnerability, while on “You and Country Music,” Woys brings the heat. The song displays the anger behind heartbreak in a way that feels strong and in your face in the best way.

Woys’ vulnerability shines through, yet again, on possibly the best song on the project called, “Took Back.” Written by the singer with Cameron Newby and Tammi Kidd Hutton, the songstress provides an anthem for women who were promised the world, but did not quite make it to the altar. While obviously heartbreaking, the song is both clever and honest – two qualities every great country song has. The songstress continues that same energy on “Chasing Storms,” drawing fans deeper into her heartbreak. On “Last Time I”ll Cry” and “Only Thing It Does,” fans start to feel the resilience part of Woys’ personal story.

If the previous seven songs depict the journey, “I’m Your Woman” is the battle cry that embodies resilience. On the title, and final, track, Woys lays it all out on the line, giving listeners an absolute anthem for hope. Overall, I’m Your Woman is a beautiful and cohesive project that truly takes the listener through a gut-wrenching story that ends in hope. Woys is at her best on this EP.

Who is Tiffany Woys? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

The Beginning:

Today’s spotlight artist shares a story of evolution that many people can relate to in one way or another. We first introduced you to singer, Tiffany Woys back in 2019, when she was a champion for bringing life to songs written by other people. Today, after some major life changes and a new-found love for songwriting, Woys updates us on her life and her new music.

“I was born and raised in Sacramento, California,” she begins. “In Northern California, there is a lot of country music, but there isn’t a lot of opportunity […] I always knew I wanted to do music.” Woys recalls falling in love with big voices at an early age, thanks to an early introduction to Celine Dion from her mom.

“My mom listened to Celine Dion a lot with me growing up, and I knew I wanted to sing. That was always a big deal to me, I wanted to sing. We didn’t have any songwriting communities in Sacramento, so that I didn’t do, I just wanted to hold a microphone and sing. Then when I heard LeAnn Rimes for the first time, that was really what sparked county music for me,” she shared.

Woys also credits powerhouse vocalists in the county genre like Jo Dee Messina, Faith Hill, and Martina McBride as some of her early influences. “I really fell in love with the vocalist. I love when you can hear someone and know instinctively who they are,” she shared, adding that presently, she also draws inspiration from artists like Lauren Alaina and Carrie Underwood.

Despite loving music, neither Woys nor her parents knew how to pursue a career in country music, so the singer followed her parents wishes and went off to college to pursue her degree. “Everyday I would commute home from my college, and I would visit a vocal coach, and I was like, “I’m not giving this up, there’s absolutely no way.”

The Turning Point:

Armed with a desire to pursue country music, upon graduating college, Woys did just that. “I ended up coming home from college after I graduated, putting together a band, and toured the entire west coast, basically performing three to four hours a night, two to three days a week for five years, just building a team and trying to figure out how to do this,” she shared.

Around the same time, the songstress started making trips to Nashville, Tennessee to build out a team. “I knew it was always going to be country, and I commuted back and forth to Nashville for five years, building a team, kind of slowly… getting a publicist, an entertainment attorney, and the last thing I got was a manager. My manager was the one that was like, ‘Listen, you have to be in Nashville.’ I was waiting for somebody to say that to me.”

In 2017, Woys packed up her apartment and booked a one-way ticket to Nashville. Upon getting to Music City, the singer became a true advocate for the songwriting aspects and cutting music that she related to that was written by other artists. “I was really unapologetic about how I wanted to be a vehicle for songwriters. […] I’m a huge support of the songwriter. I don’t consider myself a songwriter yet, I consider myself a co-writer,” she shared, while discussing her journey.

Eventually, Woys realized the healing-power of songwriting, which led to her next endeavor.

Today:

Flash forward to today, Woys is about to release her newest project, I’m Your Woman (out 5/31/24). The record is the first project that the singer co-wrote on, and her most personal project to date. “I think I needed more life experience. […] I don’t think I had something so ground-shaking that had happened in my life to push me into the direction of where I felt like I had to say something, I felt really good about relating to other people’s words and putting them out there.”

I’m Your Woman features eight songs, with six of them co-written by the singer, including a deeply personal song called, “Took Back.” “Took Back” is my favorite. It’s really the one that catapulted this whole project. It’s also probably the most vulnerable I’ve ever been in music. […] This song was kind of about the idea of the ring being taken back, and it was kind of like the last gut punch you can get at the end of that story. […] It symbolized a future and a promise that ultimately will never happen. I also wrote this song from the perspective of me having a conversation with him, a conversation I never got to have.”

The record as a whole was born out of Woys trying to make sense of her broken engagement.“I had to experience things. I moved across the United States alone, getting engaged, having it fall apart, losing friends, losing loved ones, I think all of that had to happen for me to have something more meaningful to say,” she shard. Adding, “Love will never go out of style, so that’s what I prefer to sing about, so this record absolutely shares the story of me falling in love here in Nashville, spending five years getting to know somebody, getting engaged, and then it falling apart, and then it starting over again. That’s the journey that this record takes you on.”

Tiffany Woys: ‘All About Love’ – EP Review

Tiffany Woys is a powerhouse singer in country music. She has the unique ability to make every song she sings feel like it came directly from her soul. On her newest EP, All About Love, Woys enlists the songwriting prowess of some of Nashville’s top songwriters to create an incredible new project.

In a recent press release, Woys shares “Love is a universal language. It’s a feeling that everyone experiences along with heartbreak. It’s all I’ve really wanted to convey with listeners. I want people to know we are all more related than you think.’ Later she adds, “That’s through love. So now I am releasing six songs that I hope relate to you too. That through love and music you feel a little less alone. This EP is All About Love and I think we can all agree we need more of it!”

The EP kicks off with the Woys’ current single, “About Love.” The track is the perfect introduction to the project. The pop-country tune feels wistful and hopeful, two things we need more of in our everyday lives. Similarly, on “Own This Town,” Woys sings about love and nostalgia. The song manages to deliver that hope and confidence yet again.

Next up is “Wear It Out,” written by Tammi Kidd Hutton, Nathan Spicer, and Sarah Allison Turner. On this song, Woys’ pours her heart out about a song that reminds you of your love. With lyrics like, “So I wear it out til it don’t // Spin around anymore // I turn it up loud enough that I’m yours // right back in your arms baby,” the song inspires so much emotion.

On “I Don’t Want You Back,” Woys taps into the difficult time of love. Each lyric of the song is vulnerable and relatable. The song expresses how it feels to watch someone you once loved move on and have to act like you are okay with it. One of our favorite songs on the record, Woys’ proves she is a powerhouse vocalist for any of the naysayers.

Similarly, on “I’ll Meet You There,” the songstress allows fans into the vulnerability of how love can sometimes be scary. Despite the melancholy nature of the song, there is still hope weaved into each and every lyric.

“Sometimes loves gonna take // More than it’s gonna give you back // You either bend or you break // It’s always been simple as that // Yeah it’s messy and it’s real // Love ain’t built on how we feel // No the road to forever ain’t always fair // but I’ll meet you there”

The record ends with an impressive cover of LeAnn Rimes’ song “Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way.” The ballad is the perfect way to end an EP that is centered around all things “love.” All About Love is one of our favorite releases by Woys so far.

NYCS Swag Spotlight: Tiffany Woys

“I want to be a vehicle right now at this point in my career for the songwriters that are writing great songs, and really showcase what this community and what Nashville was built on, and that’s songwriting. It all starts with a song.”

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, Tiffany Woys is our next Swag Spotlight. Woys is proud of being another artist hailing from the west coast, understanding that not growing up in the typical southern household would give her a different vantage point when pursuing a career in country music. She recalls in a recent interview the very first time she remembers being enchanted by music when she was 5 years old was seeing Leann Rimes perform the National Anthem. From there she learned to love power vocalists such as Celine Dion, and she quickly decided she wanted to be a singer and perform on stage. As she got older, she started to fall in love with vocalists like Martina McBride, Faith Hill, and Carrie Underwood. “Country music is based on a story and so vulnerable, honest and truth-telling, that’s what brought me from pop music to country music, those are the songs that I related to more than ever,” Woys explains. “I am such a firm believer that a location or genre doesn’t determine anything, country music just felt like home.”

After making the decision to pursue music instead of becoming a criminal law attorney, she got a band together and started touring up and down the west coast. She mentions how her parents have always been such strong supporters of her dream and during college, she would drive home each weekend to work with a vocal coach and really hone her craft. With idols like Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand and of course, Celine Dion, Woys knew she needed to work hard to become the vocalist she knew she could be.

After five years on the coast, learning the ins and outs of the music business and what she wanted to say, she built up her confidence as an artist, packed her bags and made the move to Music City. She put out her very first collection of songs last Friday, a self-titled EP featuring four tracks. Although she did not write any of the songs, she is proud to champion songwriters and songs that otherwise wouldn’t have been recorded. “I just never wanted to put out my own music that I’ve written if it was just going to be okay, to me the best song wins,” Woys says. “There are so many amazing writers that aren’t getting their songs heard because they aren’t songwriter/artists. I want to showcase the songwriters, I don’t want to pretend or shy away from the fact that I haven’t written the songs.”

She tells us that she has listened to hundreds of songs since moving to Nashville, trying to come up with four that will cohesively introduce her and her story. “I am such an advocate of finding your love story, finding your love, my message with the EP is my story with starting,” she explains. “I’m not finished yet but I wanted to share my journey so far, of love and its ups and downs, the songs go in order of things that have happened to me.” Some of the songwriters who have had huge success in Nashville have written this collection of songs including, Shane McAnally, Nicolle Gaylon, Trevor Rosen, Jason Saenz, and more. “Other than singing a big dream of mine is finding the perfect someone for me, I do believe in the fairytale, happy ending. This EP is sharing pieces of me and a big part of who I am.”

NYCS First Impression: Tiffany Woys Debut Self-Titled EP

Tiffany Woys’ anticipated self-titled EP just dropped today. Her first single that was released last year “Priceless,” is penned by Emily Shackleton, Kelly Archer, and Mickey Guyton. It’s a sassy, fiery track about heartbreak and self-worth in a relationship. Woys’ EP consists of a four-song tracklist, which is over five years in the making. The EP features “Last Call Weakness,” “Spark,” “Love Has No Heart” and of course “Priceless.”

Woys’ EP includes tracks written by Nashville’s top songwriters including Todd Clark, Shane McAnally, Trevor Rosen, Sara Haze, Matt Bronlewee, Jason Saenz, Justin Halpin, Bobby Campbell, and Matthew Joseph Rogers. “Last Call Weakness” is a catchy way to start things off for her EP, lyrically talking about how the ups and downs of a relationship. “Last Call Weakness” is her song “Spark”, a midtempo look back on a romantic relationship and the realization that it is slowly burning out. She describes it as “the beginning of the story.” It’s all about when you know a relationship is going to go bad, but you do it anyway. “Love Has No Heart” was originally on hold for Brett Young, but this tender heartbreak ballad that fits her voice flawlessly. It fit Woys’ story perfectly at the time of moving to Nashville with one door closing and another one opening. The EP offers a cohesive look at the vocalist and puts incredible songs on full display.
