Thomas Rhett Goes Number One with “Slow Down Summer”

Thomas Rhett’s single “Slow Down Summer” officially marks his nineteenth number one single at Country Radio. Learn more here!

Thomas Rhett deserves each and every accomplishment he earns. In his incredible career, Rhett has scored nineteen number one singles. After earning a top spot on the charts with “Country Again,” the singer gets to celebrate yet again.”Slow Down Summer” is the top song at country radio.

The nostalgic song debuted back in November. According to Rhett, the song depicts a teenage romance that is about to be disrupted by college plans. “‘Slow Down Summer’ really is about two kids in love. Rhett continues to give us song after song to play in the soundtrack of our lives. We love that he continues to go back to his country roots, and this song is the perfect direction for the singer-songwriter.

“Yeah, what can I say? // We had our hopes up and the windows down // Fallin’ fast in a one-lane town // Tangled up with your lips on mine // Never seen a brighter green in those eyes and // I put my jacket on your shoulder // Wishin’ the weather wasn’t gettin’ colder // Lettin’ you go, holdin’ onto each other // Closin’ our eyes, sayin’, “Slow down, summer” (slow down, summer)”

Congrats to Rhett and his team on another incredible number one feat! “Slow Down Summer” is definitely a song worth celebrating.

As part of the TODAY Show Citi Concert Series, superstar Thomas Rhett took to the stage in New York City on Tuesday, April 5th. The country music icon sang some of his hits, including “What’s Your Country Song” and “Look What God Gave Her” to a crowd of fans that lined up in the early morning hours to see him perform.

Rhett also spent some time chatting with the TODAY hosts about his success so far, his family, and much more. The singer-songwriter even opened up with Hoda Kotb about his growing family and adoption. He admitted that he is not ready yet to share with his oldest child, Willa Gray that she is adopted just yet.

“You go, ‘Well, what age is the right age?’ The world is moving so fast that it’s like, to have a conversation with a 6-year-old like that,” shared Rhett, during the interview. “Maybe I’m old-school that way but I’m like, ‘Maybe we need to wait ’til she’s 10.” Rhett also shared about what his daughters think of his music – showcasing how much of a family man he truly is.

Overall, Rhett proved to be a real class act on the show, and his performances were nothing short of spectacular!

Thomas Rhett: ‘Where We Started’ – Album Review

Thomas Rhett gives fans even more new music with his brand new album, Where We Started, out now, April 1st, on all streaming platforms. Check out our full review and listen to the new album below.

For Thomas Rhett, Where We Started, out today, April 1, is the follow up to 2021’s Country Again: Side A. Yet, despite what one would think, Rhett promises that this new collection isn’t Side B. Ahead of the release, we chatted with Rhett to learn about what to expect from the project. Check out 5 things he shared here

After writing somewhere between 150 to 200 songs in the last few years, the singer admits that things didn’t go quite as he had originally intended when it came to his new release. Rhett recalls that after going into the studio with Jon Bellion, Jesse Frasure, and Ashley Gorley, things changed as they wrote the title track. “It kinda started becoming a different project,” he admitted in a recent interview. “It started becoming not what I thought Country Again: Side B…not what I wanted it to be.”

Instead, he says, the album became a versatile collection with something for every listener, every mood, and every feeling. There are funky up-tempos, dreamy love songs, and unexpected collaborations. One of those collaborations is with Katy Perry on the LP’s title track, which serves as the album’s closing moment. The beat-laden song is perfect for a pop crossover, as the starry-eyed lovers trade verses about the early days of a relationship at its crossroads.

“Those days when you’re brokenhearted // And you get knocked down and you say you don’t know // How far we’re going to go // Just look at that road // And think about where we started // Keep your eyes on me // ‘Cause talk is cheap // We’re all we need // Darling I know // How far we’re gonna go // Just look about that road // And think about where we started.”

Other collaborations include “Half of Me” with Riley Green, and the previously-released “Death Row,” featuring Tyler Hubbard and Russell Dickerson. The latter was inspired by the trio’s visit to a men’s prison, where they played songs for prisoners on death row. Written by Rhett, Zach Crowell, and Ashley Gorley, the song deals with the trio reflecting on their perspective-altering visit, remarking “I learned a lot about living // From those men out on death row.”

Meanwhile, “Half of Me” is easily one of the collection’s purest country tracks, a simple ode to wanting a cold beer that has hints of early Joe Nichols or Blake Shelton. Of his decision to enlist Green, Rhett admits that the pair have become great friends, and that “he was the perfect dude for the song.” Rhett first began teasing the song out on tour last summer, watch a video below of an early performance of the song.

The album’s opener is the introspective “The Hill,” interestingly the only song on Where We Started that wasn’t co-penned by Rhett. Written by Lori McKenna, Jordan Reynolds, and Emily Weisband, it deals with the proverbial hill that we sometimes choose to die on. Rhett has conviction here, and although he can be stubborn sometimes, he realizes what’s important and that’s the love of his wife. “Not every battle’s worth it // I’ll admit where I’ve gone wrong,” He sings. “But fighting for your love // That’s the hill I want to die on.”

Rhett celebrates the simpler things in life on songs like “Bass Pro Hat,” “Anything Cold,” “Paradise,” and “Slow Down Summer.” “Anything Cold” is the perfect track for hitting the beach this summer, as Rhett doesn’t care what he’s drinking as long as it’s cold with alcohol. Meanwhile, “Slow Down Summer” is an appreciation for summer love and the desire to hold on to it for as long as possible.

“Church Boots” has hints of “Fancy Like” that make it ripe for a TikTok dance, and a perfect earworm for radio. The click-clack of a track celebrates a pair of boots that are perfect for any occasion. More than just simple footwear, these boots are truly a part of his story. “They’re all scuffed up just like me // Tell a little story ‘bout my history,” he sings. “Go straight from the farm to the bar to the back row pew // Yeah my work boots // Are my church boots.”

On songs like “Angels,” “Paradise,” “Simple as a Song,” and “Mama’s Front Door,” Rhett celebrates the special love he shares with his wife, Lauren. On “Paradise,” he recalls that being with her is equivalent to paradise, while “Mama’s Front Door” talks about all of the pivotal moments in a relationship that have happened on her mama’s porch.

Meanwhile, when it comes to ballads, “Angels” is a clear highlight of the album, building through the powerful chorus as Rhett recalls all the mistakes he’s made, wondering how an angel of a woman stayed by his side. “You shoulda slammed the door // Changed the lock //And said, adios to my selfish heart // Tore it apart and left me alone // Don’t know why you were patient // And wasted good savin’ on me // Maybe angels don’t always have wings.” Check out the video below of Rhett performing the swoon-worthy track.

For Thomas Rhett, Where We Started may not have been the album he originally intended to make, but perhaps, turned out the way it was always meant to. Despite its name, Where We Started is less about where it began, and more about the journey to where it ended up. With a versatile collection of tracks, there truly is something for every listener here.

5 Things to Expect from Thomas Rhett’s Album ‘Where We Started’

Thomas Rhett’s brand new album, Where We Started is due out TONIGHT, April 1st at midnight! Based on a recent conversation we had with the 5x GRAMMY-nominated superstar, we are sharing 5 things to know about the new record and this stage of his life.

1. ‘Where We Started’ is a project that feels different for Rhett while still remaining true to his sound.

“This album seemed to be such a great middle-ground between [Country Side A & B], very versatile. I feel like this record has literally a song for everybody on there, all types of different emotions, not only from a lyrical standpoint but from a melody standpoint. It’s one of my favorite records I got to be a part of.”

2. The single, “Slow Down Summer” was actually inspired because of the seasonal transition to fall.

“We were in Montana on a writing trip and it was October. We really didn’t know what to write. We were kind of half fly fishing, half trying to write songs, and we were in the living room, and I noticed obviously that the leaves were changing and someone said, ‘I wish summer would slow down’. As a songwriter, you hear words like that, and you’re like, maybe we should try to write that.”

3. Rhett is very proud of the stories told on this record.

“I think lyrically, this record is extremely well written, and maybe I’m biased, but I really do feel like we dug in on the deeper tracks and we wrote from a place of clear honesty.”

4. Thomas Rhett is spending less time on social media now that he is a Dad.

“I’ve been blessed with an amazing family, blessed with an amazing decade of being able to play shows and make music, but I think that as my kids get older, it does become more challenging to do as much as I used to. I still try to keep up on social media, but at the same time, when I am on social media a lot, then I am neglecting something else. And I think my kids will always take precedence over that stuff.”

5. Being an artist is very important to TR, but nothing is more sacred to him than being a father and a husband.

“I want to make sure that as my kids get older and stuff they know that they were always chosen first over whatever. That’s the kind of Dad that I want to be known as by them for sure, and especially as a husband that’s present as well. My family has done a great job at allowing me to continue to work and continuing to play shows and allow myself to put smiles on people’s faces on a Friday night, and so that’s what I plan to keep doing.”

2022 ACM Awards: The Complete Recap – Winners, Performances & More

Check out the full recap of the 2022 ACM Awards, complete with all of the winners, performances, and more special moments from the show.

Dolly Parton and Kelsea Ballerini ACM Awards

Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images for ACM

The Academy of Country Music Awards had a fresh new look this year. The normally three-hour event that has exclusively aired on CBS for the past 23 years found a new home on Amazon Prime. The show was an hour shorter, had no commercials, and had a whole lot more entertainment. Country music icon, Dolly Parton hosted the event from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas with the reigning New Male and Female Artists of the Year, Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett. Miranda Lambert was the big winner, taking home the prestigious Entertainer of the Year award. Keep reading below for more winners and special performances from the exciting night.

Allen and Barrett, who were both up for Male and Female Artist of the Year kicked off the show; Allen covered Elvis Presley’s “Viva Las Vegas” and Barrett sang Faith Hill’s “Let’s Go to Vegas.” After Eric Church performed a medley of songs over his 16-year career, New Artist of the Year nominee, Walker Hayes sang his new single “AA” as well as his viral smash hit “Fancy Like” as he danced around the entire stadium high-fiving fans and other artists.

The first two awards of the night were presented to Brothers Osborne for Duo of the Year, and Old Dominion for Group of the Year. It was Brothers Osborne’s third and Old Dominion’s fifth straight win for the respective categories. Maren Morris followed this with a performance of her new song, “Circles Around This Town.”

Lainey Wilson came out on top in the stacked Song of the Year category with her number one hit “Things a Man Oughta Know.” Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood won for Single of the Year for their chart-topper, “If I Didn’t Love You.” Viewers got to see both of these songs live later in the show. Wilson also won the New Female Artist of the Year as well. Next up, two Female Artist of the Year nominees, Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce took the stage for “Never Wanted Be That Girl”, a standout performance. This collaboration took home the award for Music Event of Year.

Two of the most memorable performances of the show included Thomas Rhett who performed his current single “Slow Down Summer” as fireworks shot off behind him during the final chorus, resembling a scene from Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Magic Kingdom. Right after, Kelsea Ballerini joined Dolly Parton on stage for a collaboration of Parton’s new song, “Big Dreams and Faded Dreams” from her new “Run, Rose, Run” album.

One of the biggest surprise wins of the night was Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous winning the award for Album of the Year. Statistically, it makes a lot of sense, given it was the best-selling album across all genres in 2021 with 3.2 million units sold. Wallen humbly thanked his team, fans, and industry for showing him grace over the past year and dedicated the win to his son.

This was followed by 35-straight minutes of performances by artists such as Gabby Barrett, Parker McCollum, Lainey Wilson, Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan and Jordan Davis. Our favorite performances in this batch included Brother Osborne who gave an exciting performance of their song “Skeletons,” where their glasses, hats, guitars, and matching black and white jumpsuits lit the room neon as the lights went down. Breland had Thomas Rhett and a Baptist choir join him on stage for his fun, new song “Praise the Lord.”

After Lady A performed “What a Song Can Do,” the Male and Female Artist of the Year were awarded to Chris Stapleton and Carly Pearce. Pearce and Stapleton also won this award at last year’s CMAs as well. Top-nominated artist, Chris Young performed two songs after these awards, “Raised On Country” and his collaboration with Mitchell Tenpenny, “At The End of A Bar.”

The show concluded with the announcement of the most prestigious owner of the night, Entertainer of the Year. Miranda Lambert took home the award and although she leads the pack with 29 total ACM awards throughout her career, she has never won the Entertainer of the Year. She is currently in London on tour, but she graciously accepted her award remotely.

Other awards not aired included New Male Artist of the Year to Parker McCollum, Video of the Year to Lambert and Elle King for “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home),” and Songwriter of the Year to Michael Hardy. Other performers include Chris Stapleton, Jimmie Allen, Parmalee with Blanco Brown and Brooke Eden, Brittney Spencer, and Kelly Clarkson. The pre-show included performances by Tenille Townes and Kat & Alex.

Thomas Rhett Adds Tyler Hubbard & Russell Dickerson on New Song

Thomas Rhett’s new song “Death Row” featuring Tyler Hubbard and Russell Dickerson is out now, March 4th. Listen to the brand new track below.

For the last couple of months, superstar, Thomas Rhett has been sharing songs off his upcoming record, Where We Started (due out April 1st). As usual, Rhett runs the emotional gamut, giving fans songs to drink to, songs to cry to, and songs that make you think. His brand new song, “Death Row”, out today, hits the emotional trigger.

The brand new track features longtime friends, Tyler Hubbard and Russell Dickerson. Written by Rhett with prolific songwriters, Zach Crowell and Ashley Gorley, “Death Row” is a pensive, thought-provoking track. Each singer, Rhett, Hubbard, and Dickerson each take a verse to share stories and experiences that they seemingly learned from inmates doing time in prison. Rhett shared in a recent interview that the new song was inspired by a real-life experience for the trio.

“Just last week, I went to prison // To see some boys down on death row // I brought some guitars and my buddies // To play some songs we thought they’d know // I could feel myself trembling // When I shook one of their hands // I thought that he would be a monster // Turns out he’s a whole lot like I am”

The emotional encounter clearly took a toll on Rhett and his fellow collaborators. The singer-songwriter has a knack for sharing stories, and “Death Row” exemplifies that. Hubbard and Dickerson add additional elements to the already incredible collab. So far, Where We Started is shaping up to be a phenomenal project from Rhett.

Thomas Rhett Drops New Love Song “Us Someday”

Thomas Rhett drops new love song, “Us Someday” out now, February 11th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

Thomas Rhett released the fourth single off of his forthcoming album Where We Started, which is set to release on April 1st. This 15-track project will be Rhett’s sixth studio album and will include already released tracks like “Slow Down Summer”, “Angels” and “Church Boots”, as well as his latest track, out now, “Us Someday”.

Where We Started will also be the first of two new albums that fans will get from Rhett in 2022, the second being Country Again: Side B, due out later this year. These two albums along with Country Again: Side A are all of course the massive by-product of the volume of music that Rhett was writing and creating throughout the pandemic.

As you likely know, Rhett was not only making a ton of music throughout the pandemic, but he was also sharing a large amount of it with fans along the way. There were several songs off of both Country Again: Side A as well as Where We Started that fans heard months or even as much as a year ahead of their release, thanks to Rhett’s social media.

With the release of “Us Someday”, Rhett shared: “You guys have probably noticed by now that I love to share music with you in the moment, and as it is being created. I posted this song I wrote for Lauren back in September of 2020, and now #UsSomeday is available everywhere. Hope y’all love it.”

“Us Someday” is yet another song by Rhett that was inspired by he and his wife, Lauren’s beautiful love story and their long history together that dates back to their childhood.

Written by Rhett along with Amy Wadge, Jesse Frasure, and Rhett Akins, “Us Someday” tells the story of Rhett always being able to see a future with Lauren, whether it was looking as far ahead as to their wedding, having a family together, or growing old together. No matter how crazy she thought he was for dreaming it, he knew it. It’s a very simple ‘when you know, you know’ story. Obviously, he was right.

“Couple kids runnin’ wild in the backyard // Handprints in a new driveway // Road trips in a packed-out old car // Little League on a Saturday // You call me a crazy dreamer // but I’m gonna dream away // close my eyes and I swear I see it // My Love, that’ll be us someday”

We can’t wait to hear the tracks that fill the rest of this album and can’t wait for the full project to be out on April 1st. Until then, we’ll have these first four tracks on repeat.

Fans can join our Weekly Round-Up e-newsletter here, for the latest in country music and more news about future Tim Dugger releases.
