Tuesday, June 30, NYCountry Swag launched our ‘I Love New York’ Series which features artists in the country music community taking over our Instagram Story each week to give us the Top 5 Things they love most about New York City.
Kicking off the series was singer-songwriter, Russell Dickerson, who just released the latest song, “Home Sweet” off his upcoming sophomore album. Check out Dickerson’s Top 5 Picks in the personalized videos here on Instagram Highlights plus a rundown below.
#5 – Family
Dickerson says, “My favorite part about New York is my family. I’ve got family in Long Island and since I was a kid growing up we would always come to New York for the summers and hang out with them…”
“If we’re in NYC, you know we’re going to be at Parker & Quinn…” Dickerson says of his #3 pick, “The place is absolutely incredible and one of our favorite restaurants in N-Y-C.”
#2 – Madison Square Garden
The World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, takes Dickerson’s #2 spot. “We sold it out with Thomas Rhett on the Very Hot Summer Tour… absolute best night of my career,” Dickerson says of the fond memories inside the famed venue.
#1 – The NYC Subway
Dickerson’s #1 Pick for his Top 5 Things he loves about NYC in our ‘I Love New York’ Series is: Coming up the stairs from the subway right in front of MSG, “That’s just like, AH… You’ve made it to N-Y-C.”

Our of our all-time favorite artists and one of our day ones, Russell Dickerson continues to have one of the most exciting careers in country music. Last year, he accomplished a rare feat as his first three singles to country radio achieved the number one spot on the charts. This year, he released his first song off his upcoming sophomore record entitled “Love You Like I Used To,” and now he has gifted fans with another new song, “Home Sweet.”
Upon listening, fans can tell almost instantly that this song is clearly a Dickerson anthem. Somehow, the artist has mastered the art of creating music that always feels like him. All of Dickerson’s songs feel authentic, bouncy, and passionate, and “Home Sweet” fits the bill perfectly.
“That doormat says welcome home / But I think it’s wherever I’m with you / It’s more than some bricks and stones / No there ain’t nothing like home sweet / You and me / Ain’t got much, but we got all we need”
This particular jam is another ode to the beautiful love that he and his wife, Kailey share together. “Home Sweet” is both fun and romantic. Dickerson pays homage to the notion that when we are with our better half, anywhere can be home. As a recording artist, the singer is often living on a tour bus or a hotel room, but when Kailey accompanies him, it feels like he has home with him.
In other words, home is a person, not a destination. Dickerson manages to remind us of that sentiment, yet, we feel like it’s the first time we ever heard it. He never disappoints! Cheers to another hit and his growing family, the pair is expecting their first child later this year!
“Home Sweet” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our ‘New Country Music’ playlist. Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.

Truly the news we all need right now. Russell and Kailey Dickerson are expecting their first child this fall. The couple exclusively told People the details which they announced across social media this morning. After trying for 9 months, Dickerson told the publication “It just got to the point where we’re like, ‘Well, if it happens, it happens. It’ll happen when it does.’ It’s all God’s timing on that part. So yeah, I was completely surprised.”
The “Love You Like I Used To” singer is gearing up to release his sophomore record later this year and has been active on virtual interaction with his fans through social media throughout the majority of this quarantine.
We are so happy for Kailey and Russell and can’t wait to see them as parents!

Saturday night (Feb 29.) country music fans came out in droves to catch the first night of Kane Brown’s ‘The Worldwide Beautiful’ Tour. Joining the multi-platinum selling artist for the sold-out show were Russell Dickerson and Chris Lane (who will rotate on the direct support slot throughout the tour) and country music’s hottest new trio, Restless Road.
Zach Beeken, Colton Pack and Garrett Nichols, the three band members who make up Restless Road, took the stage first, tasked with warming up the eager crowd. Earlier this week, news broke that Kane Brown had signed the trio as the flagship artist to his yet to be named record label. The announcement comes as a full-circle moment for Brown and the band as Brown initially met Beeken and Pack back in 2013 while competing on The X Factor, Brown’s first claim to fame.
Performing a mash-up of 90’s country hits including Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” and George Strait’s “Check Yes Or No”, Restless Road instantly captivated the already packed venue. In addition to the flawless medley, the group used their time on stage to introduce tracks from their brand new self-titled debut EP including “All the Girls” and “It Ain’t Easy”. Showcasing their impeccable harmonies and charm, the group quickly earned their spot on the tour.
ACM New Male Artist of the Year nominee and NYCountry Swag OG, Russell Dickerson took the stage next. The singer-songwriter opened his set with a brand new, unreleased song “Never Get Old” before diving right into his third number-one single, “Every Little Thing”. Fans erupted with screams and applause immediately as they recognized those first few familiar notes of the hit song. As Dickerson ran from one side of the stage to the other, the entire venue screamed back every single word.
After releasing his latest single, “Love You Like I Used To”, just about three weeks ago, Dickerson impressed as fans sang along to the brand new song, proving that the track is sure to have success as it makes it’s way to radio.
Dickerson kept the energy high performing crowd-favorites like “Billions” and “Blue Tacoma.” Just when you thought the set could not get any better, the future Entertainer of the Year revealed his mash-up of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”, Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and his own track from his debut album, “MGNO.” The epic performance has become a staple in Dickerson’s set. As he belted out the iconic vocals, while dancing on stage, the audience fed right off of his contagious energy jumping up and down and waving their arms, making the special moment perhaps the most energetic medley in country music shows today.
“…This is my first song that I ever put out. Thank you country radio, but first & foremost, thank you country music fans, the best fans in the entire world….” Dickerson emotionally thanked the crowd just before closing his set with a spectacular performance of his breakthrough smash hit, “Yours”.
Next to the stage was platinum artist, Chris Lane. Kicking off his set with his debut number one song, “Fix”, Lane immediately connected with the audience while showing off his undeniable swagger. Whether it was his version of Mario’s “Let Me Love You” or a special moment in the set when he hand-picked a young fan in the audience to join him on-stage as he performed “For Her”, Lane won the hearts of every fan in the room.
What’s most interesting about Lane is his versatility as an artist, not only in the tracks he chooses to cover but in his own songs as well. Lane can transition to performing songs from his catalog of music including fan favorites like “I Don’t Know About You” and “Big, Big Plans” to his mash-up of wide-ranging covers including everything from Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee” to Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me”. The way that the fans immersed in each of the tracks throughout the very dynamic set is what was most impressive. Unphased by the rollercoaster of the genres being blended, fans didn’t miss a beat of the exciting performance. For those newcomers in the audience expecting to catch a typical traditional country show, Lane pretty much set the tone for what was to be expected for the remainder of the night.
Kicking off night one of his headlining tour, Kane Brown surprised the crowd by dropping in from high above the stage, instantly creating screams and applause from his beloved fans. Keeping up with the momentum that his opening acts had set, Brown kept the crowd going opening with his upbeat third number-one single, “Lose It”.
Brown continued to impress song after song through his 75-minute set, playing crowd favorites like “What Ifs” and “Used to Love You Sober”. A highlight of the night came when a rare downtempo moment happened as Brown took a stool centerstage accompanied by two bandmates for an acoustic set. Brown displayed his emotional side and stunned the crowd as he sang “For My Daughter.” The budding country superstar wrote the tear-jerking song for his 4-month-baby girl as a promise to be the best dad he can be, unlike his own father.
Throughout the night Brown debuted not one, but two unreleased songs: “Vodka Cranberry” and “Be Like That“. The latter of which, he teased a possible collaboration and noted that the song would not only be released sometime in March, but it would also be his next single to radio. Judging from his performance and the crowd’s reaction, the song sounds like it will be an instant smash. Check out a sneak peek of both tracks in our exclusive videos.
When it came time for some covers, like Chris Lane, Brown showed off his ability to sing to a multitude of fans. Stunning the crowd with his flawless vocals as he sang “Drift Away” originally recorded by Dobie Gray, the 26-year-old then explained to the crowd how excited he was to take everyone back to middle school before singing, Soulja Boy’s “Crank That (Soulja Boy).” Ending his medley with Blackbear’s Top 40 hit, “Hot Girl Bummer”, Brown had every fan in the room out of their seats and jamming along to the unexpected mix of tunes.
Later in the show, Brown brought Restless Road back out to perform their collaborative soon-to-be smash hit, “Take Me Home”. Check it out in the video below.
The energy throughout Brown’s set was absolutely electric and with each song it only got higher. As Brown proceeded to sing “Pull It Off”, a track from his 2016 self-titled major-label debut album, he invited back Russell Dickerson and Chris Lane to the stage causing the entire arena to erupt.
Ending with “Heaven” and “One Thing Right” the Sony Nashville recording artist returned on a B stage at the back of the arena in an encore to sing “Good As You” before returning centerstage to close out the epic show.
The journey Brown takes fans on throughout his show proves his authenticity to his artistry. Taking moments to thank his fans, share stories of his upbringing and influences, and even sharing an emotional and vulnerable moment by admitting to being really nervous about this tour. The fans’ devotion to Brown remained clear throughout the entire night as fans stayed out of their seats and matched Brown’s energy, dancing and singing along to every song, and listening to every word.
In a December 2016 review of one of Brown’s very first NYC shows at Irving Plaza, we wrote of Brown “This promising talent possesses perhaps one of the most unique new voices in country music today and shows true potential for a skyrocketing career.” It seems we may have hit that nail on the head as Brown’s career continues to explode.

Russell Dickerson is back with brand new music. This past fall, Dickerson celebrated his third No. 1 single with “Every Little Thing” and after nearly two and a half years since the release of his debut album Yours,Dickerson has dropped his newest starry-eyed single, “Love You Like I Used To.”
The “Blue Tacoma” singer first hinted about the forthcoming new music on Twitter, back in January, stating only the title of the track and after teasing snippets of the song over the past week, “Love You Like I Used To” is finally available across all streaming platforms. In the smooth-tempo love ballad, Dickerson confesses that he didn’t know he could love his girl more than he already did, but that love continues to change and grow with each passing day.
“I don’t love you like I used to // This gets better every time you // Kiss me like this // It’s stronger the longer I’m with you // It’s more than every single day before // Didn’t know I could ever love you // More than I did, but baby I do // I don’t love you like I used to”
As the song plays, the singer-songwriter expresses the parallels between his love story and classic, sweetened cliches.
“What we got ain’t got no ending, like a band of solid gold // It’s sweeter with time like strawberry wine, it gets as good as it gets old // And oh, we thought we knew what it meant back then // But I keep fallin’ all in higher than I’ve ever been”
If you have been following his career, you’ll know that his wife, Kailey has been the picture-perfect muse for songs that connect with his fans and depict a model love story. Our 2017 Artist to Watch has made a career out of loving his beautiful partner and we are so excited to finally hear new music from one of our all-time favorite artists. Dropping just in time for your Valentine’s Day plans, “Love You Like I Used To” is the perfect addition to your evening’s playlist.
Dickerson is joining Chris Lane in support of Kane Brown’s The Worldwide Beautiful Tour. Check out the dates here.
“Love You Like I Used To” is now available everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a listen below and check out more new recently released music here on our “New Country Playlist.” Be sure to give the playlist a follow for your weekly new country music fix.
“Love You Like I Used To” Lyrics
Girl, I’ve always loved you, but something’s changed
Blame it on time, the road or the ride, but it ain’t the same
It’s a different kind of feeling, not the one I knew
From the sweet on your lips to how your hand in mine fits
Girl, I’ve always loved you, but
I don’t love you like I used to
This gets better every time you
Kiss me like this
It’s stronger the longer I’m with you
It’s more than every single day before
Didn’t know I could ever love you
More than I did, but baby I do
I don’t love you like I used to
What we got ain’t got no ending, like a band of solid gold
It’s sweeter with time like strawberry wine, it gets as good as it gets old
And oh, we thought we knew what it meant back then
But I keep fallin’ all in higher than I’ve ever been
I don’t love you like I used to
This gets better every time you
Kiss me like this
It’s stronger the longer I’m with you
It’s more than every single day before
Didn’t know I could ever love you
More than I did, but baby I do
I don’t love you like I used to
I don’t love you like I used to
This gets better every time you
Kiss me like this
It’s stronger the longer I’m with you
It’s more than every single day before
Didn’t know I could ever love you
More than I did, but baby I do
I don’t love you like I used to
I don’t love you like I used to
Love you like I used to, yeah
I don’t love you like I used to

Here at New York Country Swag, we pride ourselves on being tastemakers, finding and championing new and up-and-coming artists and introducing our followers to the best of the best of the rising acts. Back in 2017, we named the 10 artists below in our “Artists to Watch in 2017” and we are proud to say, we know rising talent before they make it big. Check out what each of these artists has done over the past two years and what is coming up for them in 2019.
10. Seth Ennis- Last year, Ennis followed his debut single, “Woke Up In Nashville” and “Look at You” with the captivating “Call Your Mama,” featuring A-list superstars, Little Big Town. The singer-songwriter went on to make his TODAY Show debut with that song, taking his career to new heights. This year, Ennis also opened up for Dylan Scott on his headlining tour.
9. Trent Harmon- Continuing to ride the high from dropping his debut album You Got ‘Em All, Harmon released the title track to country radio last year. The song peaked in the Top 40 on Country Airplay.
8. High Valley- The Canadian country duo continues to take the country music world by storm. Back in April, they released their new single, “Single Man” from the forthcoming studio album. The song already reached the number two spot on the Canadian country charts. Earlier this month they released “Your Mama” and the video features real-life shots of their families. We hope 2020 brings more music from the rising duo.
7. Runaway June- The ladies of Runaway June have had arguably the most successful year! The trio released their debut record Blue Roses, and their radio single “Buy My Own Drinks” cracked the Top 5 on the Country charts, making history as the first song by a female trio to break into the Top 5 in a decade. Additionally, the ladies joined superstar, Carrie Underwood on her sold-out headlining tour. Check out how they expressed their excitement for their success with us here, during our interview with the girls at Taste of Country Music Festival and our most recent Swag Session below.
6. Brett Young- 2019 was a big year for Young, both personally and professionally. The singer-songwriter’s beautiful wife Taylor gave birth to their first child together in October, after they celebrated one year of marriage. As a recording artist, Young released his new project, The Acoustic Sessions EP, which followed the release of his Number 1 sophomore record Ticket to L.A. Fans of Young have his newly announced headlining tour to look forward to in the new year. The tour stops at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on February 2nd.
5. Ryan Hurd- In 2019, Hurd focused on advancing his career as a solo artist. The talented singer-songwriter sold-out Bowery Ballroom in New York City this past January. We got to catch up with him at Taste of Country, where he shared what it’s like playing for New York fans. Hurd upped the ante by releasing both his EP Panorama and Platonic this year, including lead single “To a T.” Just recently announced, he will be headlining the Platonic Tour with Niko Moon, the tour hits NYC for a two night run on March 4th and 5th.
4. Russell Dickerson- We are proud to continue to champion the very first artist that New York Country Swag ever featured at our very first event back in January of 2016. Dickerson continues to be one of the most promising rising artists and infectious entertainers on the scene right now. This year, the singer-songwriter achieved a rare feat, as his first three singles to ever go to country radio hit the number one spot on the charts! Even better, the entertainer finally made it to the big stage at Madison Square Garden, where he opened up for Thomas Rhett on his sold-out tour and even shouted out our company, during his set!
3. Walker Hayes- Hayes continues to release music that he can be proud of and that his fans can always relate to. This year, he released a beautiful tribute to his wife, Laney, titled “Don’t Let Her,” headlined his own tour, and is about to release Volume 3 of 8Tracks. Check out our interview with the Swag Session alum below, as he talks about “Don’t Let Her,” and his journey.
2. Luke Combs- Combs has officially solidified himself as a bonafide country superstar in just a few short years. The singer recently accepted his membership into the Grand Ole Opry and released his record-breaking sophomore record What You See Is What You Get. Combs’ has had seven consecutive singles reach the top spot on County Airplay and continues to sell-out shows in arenas across the country. 2020 is shaping up to be another mega-successful year for the entertainer.
1. Drake White- It’s been a relatively quiet year for the White; however, that has not stopped him from bringing his unique talent to stages across the United States. The singer-songwriter captivated fans in New York City back in February when he played at Irving Plaza. He continues to be a mainstay at country music festivals as well.
Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for an update on all the artist we named to watch in 2018 and 2019, and then coming soon, our carefully-cultivated 2020 Artist to Watch list.
