Parker McCollum Goes Number One with “Burn It Down”

Parker McCollum’s song, “Burn It Down” goes number one at country radio this week, marking his fourth number one single. Learn all the details here.

Parker McCollum is emerging as an absolute superstar in the country music industry. Last year, he transformed into a mainstay in country music, and today, he is on the path to superstardom. The singer-songwriter adds to his streak of number one hits at country radio, earning his fourth number one with his single, “Burn It Down.”

While much of McCollum’s songs focus on the lyrics, “Burn It Down” is both lyrically-inviting and has a killer groove to it. The song is about a person who is going through a break-up and trying to remove everything that reminds you of the other person out of your life. McCollum finds a way to convey that all too relatable emotion of heartbreak in a way that feels comforting and raw. It is no wonder why “Burn It Down” hit the number one spot on the country charts.

“I’ll leave my memories inside // In that bed we loved in all night // Every word, every fight, every feeling // Stone cold, not a sound // Burn it down ’til it’s ashes and smoke // Burn it down to the smolderin’ coals // Burn it down ’til I don’t want you no more // Baby, burn it down”

Congratulations to Parker McCollum and his team on this accomplishment!

Parker McCollum: ‘Never Enough’ Album Review

Parker McCollum shares his new album, Never Enough, officially out now, May 12th on all streaming platforms. Learn more and listen to the new album below.

Texas native Parker McCollum is ready to brush off any mentions of the sophomore slump with his second album, Never Enough, out now. On the follow up to 2021’s Gold Chain Cowboy, McCollum enlisted Jon Randall (Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley) to produce the project, which features fifteen new songs, all but one co-written by the rising superstar.

Co-writers on the project include the likes of Randy Rogers, Brett James, Ryan Beavers, Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna, Liz Rose, Ashley Gorley, and many other heavy hitters. By pairing Texan honesty with brilliant lyrics and traditional country instrumentation, the MCA Nashville artist further flexes his musical muscles on Never Enough.

Throughout the LP, McCollum explores the classic themes of love and heartache through the lens of a country purist that is often lacking in today’s modern scene. “What I do best is write songs from a very real place and sing country music, but also be very ‘me’ and not try to sound like someone else,” He says in a statement. “We definitely did that on this record and every one of the 15 songs sounds different.”

The album opens with “Hurricane,” a song that blows in to set the stage for the album, roaring in with electric guitars and catchy lyrics. Here, McCollum likens a woman to a storm, blowing into a man’s life and leaving it in shambles, proclaiming, “Someday she’s gonna get her name on a hurricane.”

Similarly, “Burn It Down” sounds like a surefire hit, with its dark lyrics and musicality, as he stands in the ashes of a relationship that has gone up in flames. Co-penned with the Love Junkies, the track came from McCollum simply repeating the words “burn it down.” “Some days are like that, where the melody and the idea for the song is so good and everybody is on the same page,” he says. “If you’re talking about moving the needle in my career, ‘Burn It Down’ is probably going to be the song.”

“Handle On You” has already moved the needle as one of the singer-songwriter’s biggest hits to date and his third number one. While he admits to being shocked the song was radio worthy, he was thrilled for its success. “That song is a nod to some of the great records I grew up with,” McCollum reveals. “A lot of radio songs nowadays are kind of bubble-gummy. I don’t have any problem with pop-country, but I’d like to hear a little more classic country too.”

Interestingly, one of the album’s most poignant moments comes in the form of “Things I Never Told You,” the sole song not co-written by McCollum. On the stirring, piano-driven ballad, he shows his vulnerable side with an introspective ode to his mother. While he may not have written the song, he immediately felt connected to its stunning lyrics and message. “When I moved away from home // I didn’t realize how much I’d miss ya,” he sings. “A phone call don’t take the place // Of your smilin’ face cooking in that kitchen.”

Another poignant moment comes during “Lessons from an Old Man,” which is a powerful country ballad about the things a young boy can learn from an older man in his life. While it’s unclear exactly who McCollum is referencing on the sweet track, it’s likely about a grandfather or grandfatherly figure who helped to shape him into the man he is today, as he sings about the “lessons from an old man” that “made a young man wise.”

“It ain’t all about money // But money is nice // There’s nothing wrong with whiskey // Just keep Sundays dry,” He sings introspectively. “There’s making a living and there’s making a life”

McCollum continues to show his softer side on songs like “Best I Never Had,” “Stoned,” “Tails I Do” and “Tough People Do.” While “Best” finds him wondering about what could’ve been, “Tough” has him reassuring his love that they’ll get through the tough times together. Meanwhile, both “Stoned” and the barstool ballad, “Tails I Lose” find him drowning his sorrows in different ways.

“I cry when it’s raining // I cry when it’s dark // I feel like the whole world won’t ever understand my heart,” He drawls of a broken relationship that has broken him on “Stoned.” “That’s the hardest part of being alone, that’s why I stay stoned.”

“Too Tight This Time” is truly a marvel, written in one shot with no edits. The song is simple and sparse, featuring hints of female background vocals. McCollum shares that it’s his favorite track on the LP.  “I said, ‘Let’s pour this thing out and whatever it is in 15 minutes, that’s what it’s going to be forever.’ I love to write songs like that and live with the end result. This one was easy to do because the melody was so good,” he says. “The line ‘There must be something broken inside this lonely man’ just hits so hard.”

Likewise, “Have Your Heart Again” is a simple piano-led track that allows him to flex his vocal cords. Here, he longs for someone to take him back, while “Don’t Blame Me” is a catchy tune where he’ll accept blame for a lot, but not everything. “You can swear it’s all my fault // And I won’t blame you if you do // But don’t blame me,” He sings. “Don’t blame me // Don’t blame me for loving you.” Lastly, the album concludes with “Wheel,” a celebratory romp that finds McCollum challenging someone to make him stop rolling. “Good luck slowing me down.”

On Never Enough, Parker McCollum makes a statement that he’s a solid songwriter and artist who’s here to stay. “Sometimes I wish I didn’t care so much because everything would be easier. Hopefully one day people will look back at what I’ve done in country music and think it was honest and good for the genre,” He says. “This album may be called Never Enough, but if they see that what I did was real, that’ll be enough for me.”

Never Enough Track List:

  1. Hurricane (Parker McCollum, David Lee Murphy, Jon Randall, Randy Rogers)
  2. Best I Never Had (Parker McCollum, Will Bundy, Brett James)

Parker McCollum Earns Third Number One Single with “Handle On You”

Parker McCollum’s song, “Handle On You” goes number one at country radio this week, marking his third number one single. Learn all the details here.

In the last year, Parker McCollum has transformed himself into a mainstay in country music. Last year, McCollum earned his second number one single at country radio with “To Be Loved By You.” Today, the singer-songwriter continues the streak, landing his third number one with his latest radio single, “Handle On You.”

McCollum has a knack for creating songs that tug at fans’ heartstrings. Written by the singer with Monty Criswell, the song is a clear fan-favorite. Each of his releases feels distinctly perfect for his artistry. “Handle On You,” his newest number one, is an emotive, heartbreak song that is both relatable and painful all at the same time.  While the chorus is catchy, the verses are where the true magic happens on this song.

“Sittin’ at the table, baby, breaking the seal // Gonna see how much of this pain I can kill // I went and bought the biggest bottle they got ’cause you’re gone // Tennessee and Kentucky ’cause you ain’t here to love me // I drink now that there’s nothing to lose // I’ve been fightin’ with your memory, I hate the way it hits me // I wake up every day, black and blue // After all this back and forth, a fifth won’t do // Yeah, I finally got a handle, finally got a handle on you”

Parker McCollum Releases New Song + Announces Upcoming Album

Parker McCollum shares new song “I Ain’t Going Nowhere” in conjunction with announcing his upcoming album Never Enough. Listen and get all the details here!

Although he seems like a new name to the average country listener, Parker McCollum has been in the industry for almost ten years. After having major success in the Texas-country scene, he broke out into the mainstream with his number-one hit, “Pretty Heart” in 2020. Now, with a major-label album under his belt, McCollum gears up for the next chapter of his musical career.

Written with Lori McKenna, Lee Miller, Jon Randall, and Liz Rose, the new song, “I Ain’t Going Nowhere,” tells the story of a dream-chaser who is beginning to struggle to make the difficult decision between his profession and his wife. As much as he wants to play his music out on the road, he hates leaving his loved one behind. He assures her that she is the only thing he needs in life.

“I don’t wanna have to makе you miss me // So I ain’t goin’ if you ain’t with me // All I need is what I see right here I ain’t goin’ nowhere”

“‘I Ain’t Going Nowhere’ really is kind of a testament to where I’m at in my life right now,” McCollum said in a recent press release. “I’ve spent so much time on the road and touring and living on a tour bus and in a van since I was basically a kid and never thought I would settle down or slow down at all. And not to say I’m really slowing down, but, certainly have settled down and found that person that makes it worth it when you have a place to come home to that is not a tour bus or a highway.”

The new project will feature sixteen tracks including “I Ain’t Going Nowhere” as well as the previous releases, “Stoned” and the current top-ten radio single, “Handle On You.” Never Enough is out on May 12.

McCollum will join Morgan Wallen on his massive ‘One Night At A Time’ World Tour, stopping at some of the largest NFL and MLB stadiums across North America, including two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. For tickets, head to his website.

Parker McCollum Hits Number One With “To Be Loved By You”

Parker McCollum’s song “To Be Loved By You” is the number one song at country radio. Read about McCollum’s second number-one single and check out an exclusive video of him performing the number one hit below…

On the heels of winning his first ACM Award, New Male Artist of the Year and 2020 Country Swag Artist to Watch, Parker McCollum is celebrating again! The rising artist earned his second number one single at country radio with his song “To Be Loved By You.” The track follows his hit “Pretty Heart.”

A little over a year since its release, “To Be Loved By You” steadily made its way to the top of the charts. The song speaks to the vulnerable side of McCollum’s artistry. The singer is already a bonafide superstar in Texas, it is just a matter of time before the rest of the country catches up. We predict that soon enough, McCollum will be a mainstay in mainstream country music.

“So why are you always angry? // Why are you always quiet? // Why do you sleep alone // When I know you don’t like it? // Maybe you might be different // Will it kill you to tell me the truth? // What in the hell does a man // Have to do, to be loved by you?”

If “Pretty Heart” and “To Be Loved By You” are any inclination, fans and radio alike love McCollum’s heartfelt and brooding songs. We look forward to what’s next from the rising artist! Congrats to McCollum and his team on their number one!

new-faces-crs

The CRS New Faces of Country Music is one of the most coveted showcases during the Country Radio Seminar that spotlights five emerging artists that have achieved significant success in the country genre. This year, Gabby Barrett, Walker Hayes, Parker McCollum, Jason Rodgers, and Lainey Wilson were honored with the title.

Over the past year, all five artists have had significant success. Barrett earned her second number one single, while Hayes’ “Fancy Like” catapulted him back into stardom. Both McCollum and Rodgers continue to make waves on the country charts, each earning top singles at country radio. Additionally, newcomer, Wilson, received notoriety and praise for her hit single “Things a Man Oughta Know.”

The New Faces of Country Music is a long-standing tradition in the country music genre. Prominent artists like Reba, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Vince Gill, Eric Church, and more are just some of the few who have been honored with the title and praise early on in their respective careers.

It is clear that this year’s class have all proven their talent and their tenacity over the course of their careers, but especially this year. Parker McCollum: ‘Gold Chain Cowboy’ – Album Review

Parker McCollum’s new album Gold Chain Cowboy, out now July 30th, serves as his major-label full album debut. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the 10-track project.

McCollum opens the album with the upbeat number “Wait Outside” written by McCollum, Jon Randall (who produced it), and Randy Rodgers. While identifiably country, there are hints of alternative rock in the production and McCollum’s vocal delivery.

The second track is “Dallas” – a heartfelt country-rock moment featuring fellow Texan Danielle Bradberry. Her harmony is sweet and subtle, and the use of organs in the song is very compelling.

To Be Loved By You” is McCollum’s current single to country radio, and to put it quite simply, something about the song truly makes it absolutely addicting. “Hell, maybe I’m right, maybe I’m wrong // Finding out why shouldn’t take this long // Easier said than done, I guess // I’m a little bit harder to love than the rest”. The lyrics fall off the tongue so effortlessly, even if a little bit angry and pleading – it makes you want to listen to the song again and again.

What Parker McCollum does best on Gold Chain Cowboy is refrain from sounding like everyone else on country radio. On the record, there are moments intense enough to remind one of Death Cab for Cutie; lyrics as evocative as Jason Isbell; and phrasing as existential as John Mayer.

“I want to have Luke Bryan success, singing Chris Knight-caliber songs,” he shares in a press release. “To have longevity, you can’t sacrifice integrity to get on the radio. People know the difference, look at Willie, look at Strait. I knew I could do Texas and never leave, or come to Nashville and do the pop-country thing. My goal is to ride the middle.”

You hear all of that on a song like “Falling Apart”, which lives in the middle of the album. A Miranda Lambert co-write, you can hear they are songwriters from Texas who also love their 80s music. For fans of Mayer’s recent album Sob Rock, this is a must-listen.

“Heart Like Mine” is a standout, with a rhythm that is classically Americana and lyrics that leave you aching. The drums are soft, and the harmonies add just the right amount of depth that is needed.

“With ‘Heart Like Mine,’ I’d had that first verse for four years”, McCollum says. “I’d been saving it, because I always knew it was special. I’d almost pulled it out a couple of times in co-writes that weren’t working. But I knew not to. When I sat down with Tony, I knew he was the one. I told him those lines, and he went, ‘That’s fucking badass.’ We finished it in an hour… It was unbelievable.”

“Rest Of My Life” is a solo McCollum write, and it’s incredibly introspective. “I’m shakin’ like winter but I just can’t eat // It’s just one of those late nights that I’m never gonna beat //And I lay down for a moment and my eyes start closin’ // I can’t help but wonder why, yeah it’s just the rest of my life”. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to find clarity, and that is definitely apparent in this song.

Gold Chain Cowboy is sonically more polished than his first two albums, but the heart of it stays the same. He is young but well-traveled. The album is equal parts Texas and Tennessee, and that combination makes it all the more successful. For an album that walks the line of an identity crisis to finding yourself all over again, there is a precision and cohesiveness to the record that makes it clear why McCollum is country music’s next big thing.

Gold Chain Cowboy Tracklist:

  1. Wait Outside (Parker McCollum, Jon Randall, Randy Rogers
  2. Dallas ft. Danielle Bradbery (Parker McCollum, Wade Bowen, Randy Rogers)
  3. To Be Loved By You (Parker McCollum, Rhett Akins)

Parker McCollum Lands First Number 1 Song with “Pretty Heart”

Parker McCollum’s “Pretty Heart” is officially a number one song, marking his first chart-topper of his career.

Rising country star and Texas superstar, Parker McCollum officially has a hit song to his name! The singer-songwriter’s major label debut “Pretty Heart” is the top song on the charts, representing a major feat for the talented artist.

The lead single “Pretty Heart” off McCollum’s EP, Hollywood Gold has been steadily climbing the charts for months. It is clear that the song has truly touched the hearts of fans across the nation. The achingly beautiful declaration of remorse for a break-up is the songwriting country music deserves.

“And what does that say about me / I could do you like I did / That I could break an angel’s wings / What does that say about me / Then I stood there like a fencepost / As you drove off in your car / What does it say about me / Now that I’ve broke your pretty heart / Your pretty heart”

Although McCollum may be new to the mainstream country music scene, he is an experienced singer and songwriter, who has released critically-acclaimed independent projects in the past. “Pretty Heart” going number one is just further affirmation that the singer-songwriter is one to look out for.

Fans can anticipate more new music out by the singer in the future, and we are definitely excited about it. Congrats to Parker and his team for all the success!
