Jimmie Allen Releases Gold Edition of Collaboration Album: ‘Bettie James’

Jimmie Allen adds nine collaborations to his already successful project, Bettie James on the new Gold Edition. Available now, June 25th, on all streaming platforms, take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

The original seven-track project was an incredible collaborative piece on its own including duets with Nelly, Mickey Guyton, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker and Charley Pride, Tauren Wells, Rita Wilson and The Oakridge Boys, and Noah Cyrus. Now, Allen adds 9 more tracks to the collection including collaborations with LOCASH, LANCO, Pitbull, Breland and Lathan Warlick, Monica and Little Big Town, Neon Union, Lindsay Ell, and Babyface.

Not only has Allen established several relationships with artists across the genre and the industry, but this collective work alone has demonstrated his musical range across genres and his infectious personality based on his credibility and relationships with some of the best in the industry. Allen adds his own unique style in each song that meshes differently based on the other artist’s sound, making this project a unique mix of one-of-a-kind sounds.

Allen’s songs with LOCASH and LANCO, “Get Country” and “Home Sweet Hometown”, respectively are lyrically classic country songs but form into each group’s own distinctive sound in country music. They’re about getting back to your roots and what you know and going back to and never forgetting your hometown.

“Home Sweet Hometown // where you keep your first sins // your amens // your kinfolks // your old friends // Home Sweet Hometown // everybody’s got one // or forgot one // aor maybe they’re still calling one // yeah we all try to leave this place and chase some big dreams down // but the world could leave a bitter taste without // Home Sweet Hometown”

Allen’s song with Keith Urban, “Boy Gets A Truck”, is a cover of a deep cut from Urban’s Ripcord album. The two artists duet on the song bringing new life to an already incredible song. It’s a love story told through a hand-me-down truck.

“A boy gets a truck, truck gets a girl, girl gets a midnight feeling he’s the one // one night turns to love, love turns into one knee down, down payment on a three-bedroom house // filled with the sound of little feet, then you blink and he’s asking for the keys to pick her up”

“Somebody” with Breland, already a trailblazer in country music, and Lathan Warlick is a cross-genre song with notes of trap and pop. Allen then slows things down in “Pray” with Monica and Little Big Town and broadcasts his vocals in ways that have been less common for him thus far in past works.

No two songs of this project sound the same or follow the same path yet Allen is able to combine them all into this incomparable project and form them to his own sound. As if the original album didn’t get us excited enough for future Allen music, his Gold Edition speaks for itself in his ability to make a name for himself and carve his own space in country music.

Noah Schnacky Collaborates with Jimmie Allen on New Song

Noah Schnacky collaborates with Jimmie Allen on new song, “Don’t You Wanna Know,” available now on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig into the song.

Two of our favorite singers right now in country music, Noah Schnacky and Jimmie Allen, created an absolute jam together! An unexpected pairing, Schnacky and Allen collaborating is everything we didn’t know we needed. Today the singers dropped a brand new song “Don’t You Wanna Know.”

The infectious track came to Schnacky in a dream, he recalls in a recent press release. When he was ready to bring the song to fruition, he knew that Allen was the perfect collaborator. “Don’t You Wanna Know” is an absolute anthem. Both singers are not afraid to bend the genre boundaries in their music. It is clearly working for them on this song.

“He took me in, gave me his number, so the first person I could think to call was him,” shared Schnacky, talking about Allen. Allen added “I appreciate you reaching out to me. This song is fire.”

“She’s a west coast, gone east coast // A city girl out of LA // Trading a party in hills for the backroads // But she don’t know a thing about the southern thing, yeah // How much you wanna know // How much // A city boy never going to show you this stuff // Once you get a taste, you can never get enough // It’s a better kinda life, so baby trust”

Schnacky has been steadily releasing songs that his fans have fallen in love with lately. On the other hand, Allen has been killing it with collaborations of his own, on his latest project Bettie James. Despite all the amazing tunes that have come from the two, “Don’t You Wanna Know” might be one of our all-time favorites!

Jimmie Allen & Brad Paisley Come Together For “Freedom Was A Highway”

Jimmie Allen’s unique sound combined with Paisley’s signature guitar playing make for a remarkable new single, “Freedom Was A Highway”, set to hit country radio on February 1st.

“Freedom Was A Highway” was first released on Allen’s record Bettie James, named after his late grandmother and late father, where he collaborates with superstars of various genres and generations including Darius Rucker, Charlie Pride, Tim McGraw, Mickey Guyton, Nelly, Noah Cyrus, Tauren Wells, Rita Wilson, and The Oakridge Boys. Since its release in July 2020, Bettie James has received more than 118 million streams.

“Freedom Was A Highway” is a nostalgic, windows-down tune where Allen and Paisley reminisce about younger, carefree days. It was written by Allen, Ash Bowers, and Matt Rogers and Paisley adds vocals and a signature guitar solo.

When the town was the whole world / And love was the girl next door / soundtrack was a song in the dark / I miss those days when our dreams were there for chasing / But time was better wasted / We were summer young and livin’ for a Friday/ And freedom was a highway

While writing this song with his co-writers, Allen says he imagined himself driving down his favorite roads back in Delaware. He says, in a press release, “This song takes me back to simpler moments such as an innocent, childhood crush on the next-door neighbor or feeling freedom in the wind as you drive with the windows down.”

On dueting with Paisley, he shares, “I’m a huge admirer of Brad Paisley. I love what he brings to music and I had to have him bring that same magic to this song. I’m humbled to have him join me on this song – he brought the Freedom to the Highway.”

Regarding joining Allen on the song, Paisley shared, “I’m a fan of Jimmie, not only as a musician but also as a person, and I was honored when he asked me to join him on the song. It’s a magical combination – it doesn’t sound like a typical record for me at all and when I come in, I try my best not to ruin Jimmie’s song.” In regards to his role in the song, Paisley says that “I use my guitar to make a record sort of sound like I’m on it even before you hear me sing, and I love this guitar solo. I’m really proud to be a part of ‘Freedom Was A Highway’ and I’m excited for people to hear it.’”

When you’re seventeen and driving / you don’t think about the road running out / no, no, no, no / you just keep your eyes on that horizon / because you’re wrapped in now

Allen has already made history as the first Black artist to launch a career with two consecutive No. 1 hits on Country radio – the first being his debut single “Best Shot” – which claimed the No. 1 spot for three weeks – and second being his latest solo single “Make Me Want To”. While Bettie James was a special album for Allen because it paid tribute to his late family members and so many influential artists, “Why Things Happen”  with Darius Rucker and Charley Pride was an especially impactful moment of his career as Allen was able to bring together three generations of Black country artists and share a song with the two artists who helped pave the way for him in country music. Allen is beyond grateful that he was able to have a friendship and this song with Pride before he passed and that he was able to properly thank him for breaking the barriers that allowed for his presence and success in country music.

On July 13, 2021, Allen will publish his debut picture book, My Voice Is a Trumpet, a powerful story about speaking up for what you believe in, at any age. For more information, visit www.jimmieallenmusic.com.

Jimmie Allen Releases Noteworthy Collaboration Project ‘Bettie James’

Jimmie Allen, Bettie James

With the exception of a few remixes and covers, fans of Jimmie Allen have not been given new music since his 2018 debut album Mercury Lane. Still, the “Best Shot” singer has maintained his spot in country music and has developed a devoted community through social media. With his growing fanbase, Bettie James is here to reintroduce Allen in a way that could not have been more anticipated, in the very best way: with a collaborative project.

With six, out of seven, unreleased tracks with entertainers such as Nelly, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, and more, Bettie James works as a mesh of creatively diverse tracks. There are feel-good, powerhouse songs, estranged love ballads, inspirational messages laid over music, and reflective lyrics that contemplate tragedy and, in another production, potential growth.

Bettie James was undoubtedly worth the wait, not only for Allen’s listeners but for country music as a whole. It showcases a grown, matured, and versatile artist who is capable of honesty and vulnerability as well as performing those country music classics that get people moving and grooving. Not only does it provide Allen with a chance to redefine himself in a multifaceted, cross-genre way, but the well-known contributors are able to play with their preferred style of music, too. For instance, “Made for These” practically demands Tim McGraw’s involvement since it walks the same line as McGraw’s 2004 hit, “Live Like You Were Dying”. Additionally, “Freedom Was A Highway” aligns with Brad Paisley’s high-esteemed inclinations to incorporate a dense, electric riff.

Further exploring a mix of genre-bending music from top to bottom, the album kicks off with the infectious and fan-favorite “Good Times Roll” featuring Nelly and ends with the final and seventh track, “This Is Us” featuring Noah Cyrus. Fans got a bit of an early taste for each of these two tracks. While the latter was released on its own in February, Allen also began including a sneak peek of “Good Times Roll” in his live show as early as December 2019. Check out the video below for a clip of the live performance.

Although, Bettie James in its entirety is a true gift, there are two notable pieces, and it would be a great disservice if “Drunk & I Miss You” and “Why Things Happen” were not specifically given the words, and the space, to officially discuss and acclaim. The former is with Mickey Guyton and the melody practically sends the listener into a dizzying mental state, as if a camera is rotating 360° around an object to cause chaos and confusion. It only adds to the anguish and desperation of the song, though the mixed feelings of honesty battled with alcohol-induced longing creates a conflicted, muddled mental state that allows the track to be what it is. And, it’s great.

“Why Things Happen”, with Charley Pride and Darius Rucker, takes on a more serious route with the lyrics searching for answers as to, well, why things happen as they do. It’s political, without having to get political. And, it’s an emotional, thought-provoking production that tugs at the heart-strings. With Rucker’s natural tremble in his voice and Pride’s established, rough yet muted tone intertwining with each other and echoing Allen, a full-blast exploratory creation is born that leaves us wanting more.

Bettie James is an epiphanic, significant and well-built project from Allen that takes you on a whirlwind of emotions in seven tracks, leaving you dazed and confused, in the very best way.

Jimmie Allen & Noah Cyrus Collaborate on Love Song “This Is Us”

Noah Cyrus Jimmie Allen

This new one from Jimmie Allen and Noah Cyrus considers the transition that relationships demand from us. It compares the person that was to the individual that is created because of a newfound commitment to another. The past and the present versions are referred to in this track but what’s most important is who is responsible for that change. “This is Us” categorizes love for what it is. In order for romance to last, there must be an effort made as well as an open mind to grow at the same rate as the promise made to be together.

“All I really know is love ain’t simple” and “But it was just you and that was just me / Before we found love / Now this is us” are the two lyrics that stand out and act as the main points of this song.

Allen and Cyrus actually sound similar to Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina in “What Ifs”. The same approach is utilized whereas both artists join in on the chorus while the rest of the song is primarily designated for one. Though, Noah Cyrus has her own verse while Alaina gives her voice to background vocals. It’s powerful when the female is given a piece to perform alone and the melody softens. Brantley Gilbert and Lindsey Ell execute this technique in “What Happens in a Small Town” as well. In each song, the melody picks up again directly after and both voices blend for another chorus.

“This is Us” is everything you need in a song and, perhaps, everything you need to hear about your love life.

Jimmie Allen Releases Nostalgic Video for “Boy Gets A Truck”

Jimmie Allen Boy Gets A truck

Jimmie Allen released the nostalgic music video for the latest song “Boy Gets A Truck,” off of his debut album Mercury Lane. Viewers are taken down memory lane with a special guest appearance by his four-year-old son, Aadyn. The true to himself, newly engaged family man shows off his smooth, strong vocals that pair perfectly with a song that reflects on one’s own upbringing and the role that a truck played in his life. Allen tells a story with a truck being the focal point connecting memories of his life, family, and love. He begins by pulling his own Ford F-150 into the driveway and taking his son out of the car. Before you know it, he is in a Walmart parking lot loading a motorized mini truck onto the back of his Ford to bring home to surprise his son with his very own to drive.

That is where it all begins, as Allen sings in the chorus, “A boy gets a truck, truck gets a girl/Girl gets a midnight feelin’ he’s the one/One night turns to love/Love turns into one knee down/Down payment on a three-bedroom house/Filled with the sound of little feet/Then you blink and he’s askin’ for the keys to pick her up/Boy gets a truck.” Allen’s son meets a little girl his age from the neighborhood and drives her around in the sentimental music video. It all comes full circle for Allen, as he knows years from now that toy truck will turn into his son’s very own drivable one where he will continue to make memories of his own.

Allen is currently playing alongside Michael Ray and Walker County on “The CMT on Tour,” tour and will be making a stop in New York City on Thursday, December 5th at The Gramercy Theatre.
