NYCS First Impression: Jason Aldean ‘9

Jason Aldean 9

Jason Aldean, the legendary ACM Artist of the Decade has released his ninth studio album fittingly entitled 9; a sixteen-track work of art that blends his traditional country roots with modern rock. The multi-platinum entertainer teamed up with long-time producer Michael Knox and Nashville’s top songwriters Josh Thompson, Rhett Akins, Jordan Schmidt, Brad Warren, Brett Warren, and Ben Hayslip to create an album showcasing exceptional storytelling from nostalgic memories and heartbreak, to good time drinking anthems.

Aldean kicks off the album reflecting on a past relationship with “Tattoos and Tequila.” With a heavy guitar background, the story tells the tale of drowning in tequila to forget about the tattoo of an ex with the chorus, “When I’m missing her I take another shot, I know it ain’t the cure but right now it’s all I’ve got. She took most of me, and now all that I have left, are tattoos to remember, tequila to forget.”

“Blame It On You” is another heartache song realizing the other person is not to blame, rather it is about admitting one’s own fault. Aldean continues on with the breakup theme mixing loneliness with booze and a traditional sound in “Champagne Town,” and is more reflective of a shattered relationship in “Some Things You Don’t Forget” admitting “she’s a buzz that stills runs through my head.” Aldean changes tune and shows off his ability to blend his country-rock persona with a pop cross over sound in the romantic love ballad “Got What I Got.”

The ACM Entertainer Of The Year gives an ode to his red dirt upbringing with nostalgic anthemic tracks including the hit single “We Back,” “Dirt We Were Raised On,” and “Keeping It Small Town.” In addition, the mid-tempo song “Talk About Georgia” is a tribute to his home state and the love he left behind. He sings about taking pride in his country roots with “Camouflage Hat,” a small-town love story. The chorus reminisces about the girls falling in love with the good old boys in a camouflage hat singing, “Here they come, rolling down Main Street/ country song spinning on a CD /Small-town looking for a good time/ Raise a little hell and a drink at the county line.”

Of course, the Georgia native gave fans a few booze-filled tracks throughout the record including “Came Here To Drink” and “I Don’t Drink Anymore.” “I Don’t Drink Anymore” is a traditional country song with a clever play on words that we may never have realized, as Aldean sings, “So I don’t drink anymore/ Ever since she left/ I don’t drink anymore/ And I don’t drink any less.”

In the last fifteen years, Aldean has scored 23 number one hits – and fans can enjoy nearly two full albums worth of songs that are nothing short of exceptional country-rock entertainment. Aldean’s latest project 9 is another notch on his belt with successfully blending his unique sound and crossover appeal. This week Aldean will be on national TV making stops to promote 9 at Good Morning America and a special Thanksgiving night performance of his Top 15 hit single “We Back” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon before returning to Las Vegas on December 6th-8th for his show Jason Aldean: Ride All Night Vegas at the Park MGM Park Theatre. Next year, the multi-platinum entertainer will be hitting the road with his 2020: WE BACK TOUR featuring supporting acts Morgan Wallen, Riley Green, and Dee Jay Silver. Jason Aldean Reveals Next Track From ‘9’ Titled “Dirt We Were Raised On”

Jason Aldean Dirt We Were Raised On

ACM Artist of the Decade Jason Aldean released a new single titled “Dirt We Were Raised On” from his highly anticipated ninth studio album today, (Sept 27). While not a complete departure from Aldean’s previous singles, it’s definitely fresh-sounding.

“People buy albums with eight songs for 10 bucks now, but with ‘9′ it’s like you’re getting two whole albums at once,” Aldean shared in a press release. “I want fans to feel like they’re getting more than they bargained for and I want it to be something they listen to from top to bottom, and never hit skip…or thumbs down or whatever.”

The track starts with a complimenting acoustic and electric guitar and leads to a natural full-band kick in. The electric guitar almost serves as a baseline for the verses, which makes the song even more memorable. Aldean has always had a very signature sound, classic rock and modern country infused into one, and fans always know what to expect.

Lyrically, the song is all about nostalgia. “Yeah, we drank on it, cranked some Hank on it”. The verses are all about what any small-town boy and his friends did on that dirt road. It’s detailed enough that it feels personal to Aldean, but universal enough that so many can place themselves in the song.

In each chorus of the song, he sings, “We’ll never be too far gone from the dirt we were raised on”. It’s almost like he’s reminding himself that he’ll never be too proud to reminisce about his past and want to go back to where he came from. What strikes us most about this song is its production and instrumentation. Aldean could have easily fallen into a formulaic radio-ready song, but he didn’t. He had the listener focus on section changes in a song that’s 3 minutes and 36 seconds long.

Aldean’s ninth studio album 9 is out November 22nd. Catch him on his upcoming “We Back” tour with special guests Morgan Wallen and Riley Green.

Jason Aldean, Kane Brown & Carly Pearce Impress Fans at Jones Beach

Country music fans piled into Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh on a cold, windy night to catch Jason Aldean’s Ride All Night Tour on Friday featuring special guests, Kane Brown and Carly Pearce.  Carly Pearce opened her set with “Careless” and “Catch Fire”, songs from her debut album Every Little Thing. She then switched gears and covered Garth Brooks’ “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up)”. Pearce released her most recent single, “Closer to You” over ten months ago, which she included in her set, but not before performing an unreleased song titled “Heart Going Out of Style”. We can expect the CMA New Artist of the Year nominee to release the track sometime in the upcoming weeks. “Thanks to the fans and country radio, you guys changed my life with this next song,” Pearce praised before singing her number one hit, “Every Little Thing”. Pearce closed her set with her other smash hit, “Hide the Wine”.

Kane Brown was next up, opening with the first track on his newest album Experiment, “Baby Come Back to Me”. Brown mentioned that the wind was knocking off his hat and blowing him all over stage but that wasn’t going to stop him and his band from putting on “a hell of a show”. The cheers grew louder when the crowd heard the opening guitar riff to Brown’s first number one song, “What Ifs”.

After “Weekend”, Brown went back to another number one in “Good As You”. He noticed the crowd was really into it so he held the mic out and let the fans sing the second to last chorus. Just like he did at the PNC Bank Arts Center, Brown performed “Short Skirt Weather” karaoke-style, as the words were displayed on the side screens.

Brown substituted two new songs to the setlist from the PNC show, “Rodeo”, which was added to Experiment on July 12th and his collaboration track with EDM artist Marshmello, “One Thing Right”. Brown joked that most of the crowd probably never heard of Marshmello, being that this was a country crowd. In between those songs was his current single, “Homesick”, a song in which he dedicated to the military. “The first verse I wanted to dedicate to the military…Thank y’all for everything you do; I know y’all get homesick more than anybody.”

Brown closed his set with back to back number one songs in “Heaven” and “Lose It”. Lars Thorson displayed his skills on fiddle with an immaculate solo in between songs. Pearce, Brown and their bands provided enough energy to prepare the audience for the party Jason Aldean was about to bring.

Jason Aldean Jones Beach

Aldean came out to “Take A Little Ride”, fitting for the Ride All Night Tour, followed by “Tattoos on This Town”, “Fly Over States” and “A Little More Summertime”. Aldean took a break from the music to give the crowd a rundown of how the night was going to go: “So tonight we’re going to play you some songs from the Rearview album, we’re going to go all the way back to 2005 and play some songs off the very first album. There were about six albums in between and we’re going to play you guys some songs from all those albums tonight so it’s going to be a lot of fun, we’re going to be here for a while. We might have a new album coming out and we might play you some songs off of that tonight.”

Aldean kept the good time going with songs such as “Crazy Town”, “Amarillo Sky”, “Burning It Down”, “Big Green Tractor” and more before giving the fans what they were anxiously waiting for: the new Jason Aldean song. “Over the last album or two we put out a lot of slower songs…which is cool; I love those songs but I also love a little bit of rock n’ roll, you know what I’m saying?” Aldean then performed “We Back” for the rowdy Jones Beach crowd.

The next section of songs included number one hits such as “Night Train”, “When She Says Baby”, “Drowns the Whiskey”, “Lights Come On” and more. Aldean stopped again to tell the crowd his opinion on encores at concerts: “I for one, think it’s a complete waste of time and complete bull****. Here’s the way I like to do things and let me know if you guys are cool with it. I say we just play everything we got and when the show’s over, it’s just over. How does that sound?” The audience seemed to be okay with it as they cheered Aldean on as the three-time ACM Entertainer of the Year took a shot of tequila and continued his set. He continued that set with “My Kinda Party”, “Hicktown”, “Dirt Road Anthem” and “She’s Country”.

Aldean slowed it down one last time to perform “You Make It Easy” before going right back to a party song in “The Only Way I Know”. Aldean was on stage for an hour and a half, performing a total of 23 songs.

You can catch Aldean and company at various US cities up until October 11th, where he will play the final country show at Globe Life Park in Arlington before the baseball stadium shuts down permanently and the Texas Rangers get a new ballpark.  For the remaining tour dates head to https://www.jasonaldean.com/

Jason Aldean Brings The Ride All Night Tour to PNC

Jason Aldean brought the party and his Ride All Night Tour to Holmdel, New Jersey at the PNC Bank Arts Center on Saturday night. With him were special guests Kane Brown and Carly Pearce.

Carly Pearce Jason Aldean

Pearce opened up the show, energizing the crowd with hits such as “Catch Fire”, “Every Little Thing” and her newest single “Closer To You”. She ended her twenty minute set with her hit song “Hide The Wine”. Before the song, Pearce shouted out “Do I have any wine drinkers in New Jersey?!” which caused an uproar of the fans.

Kane Brown was next, opening his set with the first track on his newest album Experiment, “Baby Come Back To Me” and his first number one song “What Ifs”.  After performing “Weekend”, Brown asked the audience “Who out there loves their mama?” which generated a lot of feedback. He explained his next song, “Good As You”, was written in dedication to his mother and grandmother. If you are familiar with the singer-songwriter and his story, you know how important these women are to him.  Brown performed “Short Skirt Weather” karaoke style as the words were displayed on the big screen. He then covered Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” and Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls”.

Kane Brown Jason Aldean

After his covers, the stage went dark and various military veterans were displayed on the screen. Brown explained how his next song, “Homesick” was dedicated to the US military. He performed a slowed down version and revealed it will be his next single to country radio.  The stage went dark again and old videos of Brown singing on Facebook and YouTube appeared on screen. “This is a little embarrassing to show but this is how I got my start in country music. It was you guys who made my dreams possible. Here’s my first radio single ‘Used To Love You Sober’”.

Brown ended his set with his two most recent number one songs in “Heaven” and “Lose It”. He brought his dance moves out for “Lose It” as the country star showed off his moonwalking skills to give the fans one last thing to cheer about before Jason Aldean took the stage.

Groundbreaking DJ/remixer/producer/radio host Dee Jay Silver was keeping the fans entertained in between sets. Silver recently released a single with country duo Waterloo Revival called “Getaway Driver” which he played for us after Pearce’s set. Silver is set to release his first full-length album titled Corners this summer. The album plans to blend music from all different genres. “The reason for naming the record ‘Corners’ is because this album literally takes you into all corners of my mind,” Silver explains in a recent press release.

Jason Aldean

The headliner for the night, Jason Aldean opened his set with “Take a Little Ride”, “Tattoos On This Town” and “Fly Over States”. Aldean then took a few minutes to chat with the crowd.  “I’m not one of those guys up here that does a lot of singing and dancing; that ain’t really my thing. So if that’s what you came to see, you’re at the wrong show. Our show’s a little bit more rock and roll if you guys are into that.”

He explained to the fans that he will be playing songs from his most recent album Rearview Town, songs from his first album and ones from the middle six. “So what I’m basically saying, we’re going to be here for a while tonight so you guys settle in.”

Unlike Brown, Aldean is not much of a talker; he wants to fit as many songs in his set as possible. Aldean performed 24 songs for the New Jersey crowd, taking very few breaks in between. His next set of songs highlighted his earlier music, including “Big Green Tractor”, “Crazy Town” and “Amarillo Sky”. He then jumped all the way to his most recent single “Rearview Town”.

Aldean then rolled off seven more hits from a variety of albums, barely stopping to take a breath. “Burning It Down”, “Any Ol’ Barstool”, “Getting Warmed Up”, “Johnny Cash” and “Night Train” were among those songs.

Jason Aldean PNC

Before performing “Drowns The Whiskey”, Aldean praised Miranda Lambert who is featured on the track and described how important she was to making this song go number one. “Unfortunately, Miranda isn’t with us tonight so I’m going to need y’all help with this one”, he encouraged. Aldean has a ton of party anthems, which he played for the fans on Saturday night. “Lights Come On”, “Girl Like You”, “They Don’t Know” and “My Kinda Party” were next in the set.

He got the crowd was roaring before “My Kinda Party” by taking a shot of tequila on stage. “I feel like at every party there’s that one thing that happens that takes it from like a really good party to a really kick-ass party….and even though I think this party’s pretty good right now, I’m about to drink this shot of tequila and I think it’s time we kick this bitch into overdrive.”

“Hicktown” and “Dirt Road Anthem” followed. Aldean then expressed his opinion on encores at concerts, calling them bull**** and how they just waste time.  “We’re going to give you guys everything we got and when the show’s over it’s just over. How does that sound?”

He closed the show with “She’s Country”, “You Make It Easy” and “The Only Way I Know”. Aldean chugged a beer and then walked off the stage in style, putting an end to the fun, exciting and boisterous night at the PNC Bank Arts Center.

The Ride All Night Tour will return to the Metropolitan Area September 6th at Jones Beach Theater in Long Island.

Jason Aldean Looks Back In New “Rearview Town” Music Video

Jason Aldean Rearview Town

On the heels of receiving the prestigious ACM award for “Dick Clark Artist of the Decade” at the Academy of Country Music Awards earlier this month, Jason Aldean released a music video for his song “Rearview Town,’ the title track off his most recent record-breaking album. This award marks the recording artist’s eleventh ACM win.

In celebration of this momentous feat, the entertainer turned his music video for “Rearview Town” into a nostalgic and epic flashback of his life and career thus far. The video begins with images of Aldean as a child, eventually, the old photos fade into a current shot of Aldean, singing the lyrics to the song. Images from his past continue to float alongside him, including photos of the singer at early gigs at no-name bars. The look back includes flashbacks from sold-out shows, ACM wins, and award show performances. Although the visuals mostly include happy memories, Aldean makes sure to pay tribute to the horrific shooting in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Festival, where he headlined the night of the tragedy. Flowers, photos and American flags from the tribute site are all featured as well.

In a recent press release, Aldean explained the message he wants to convey to fans with his new video sharing, “The music video for ‘Rearview Town’ was a way to sort of sum up my career and personal life over the years. It’s a nod to looking back at what got you where you are today – good and bad – while looking forward down the road ahead.”

After headlining Tortuga Music Festival this past weekend and Stagecoach next week, Aldean kicks off his ‘2019 Ride All Night Tour’ at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. The tour hits the New York/New Jersey area twice, first at PNC Bank Arts Center on May 18th and again, September 6th at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre. Tickets are available now. Aldean is bringing along talented singer-songwriters, Kane Brown and Carly Pearce as openers.
