Morgan Wallen Gives Surprise Performance at Grand Ole Opry

Morgan Wallen surprised fans tonight (January 8th) at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry when he joined ERNEST on stage for an incredible rendition of their brand new song, “Flower Shops”. Watch the performance in the video below.

ERNEST and Morgan Wallen, longtime friends and label-mates, officially released the full version of “Flower Shops” on December 31st, 2021. The song immediately debuted at #1 on Apple Music Country, Spotify Country and iTunes overall. The two first teased the track back in August for fans on social media followed by several surprise performances during Wallen’s 2021 Fall tour. The song impacts country radio on January 24th and we predict that Wallen and ERNEST have a massive hit on their hands.

January 8th marks a special date not only for ERNEST who earns his Opry debut today, but also for Wallen who celebrates the one year anniversary of his 10 week-number one project Dangerous: The Double Album. Of the full collection of music for the project, ERNEST had a hand in co-writing eleven tracks.

ERNEST hits the road next week with Chris Lane on his 2022 ‘Fill Them Boots Tour’. Check out the full list of dates here. Morgan Wallen will hit the road beginning February 3rd on ‘The Dangerous Tour’. Get all the dates and details here.

ERNEST and Morgan Wallen’s New Song “Flower Shops” – OUT NOW

Morgan Wallen and ERNEST’s new song, “Flower Shops” is out now, December 31st, and available on all streaming platforms. Learn more about the new track below.

If you are a fan of ERNEST or Morgan Wallen, it is likely you have already heard the stripped-down, acoustic version of “Flower Shops”. The two first teased the highly anticipated track back in August. Since then, fans have been begging for the sad, heartbreak ballad to be officially released. To build even more anticipation, ERNEST joined Wallen on stage to perform it live together on tour. Written alongside Ben Burgress and Mark Holman, ERNEST shares the inspiration behind the song and plays a sample of it on his podcast, Just Being ERNEST.

This is a traditional country-sounding song that centers around a relationship on the ropes. The subject constantly finds himself at the florist buying everything. From violets to roses to daisies, it is a desperate attempt to win back his woman’s love. Steel guitar is beautifully sprinkled all over the track. ERNEST takes the first verse and chorus, while Wallen sings the darker, second verse. Wallen laments about heavy drinking and drugs after she took the dogs and moved back in with her mom. The song ends with the two harmonizing the final chorus.

“So mister I’ll take your roses, if you cut off the thorns; she can’t take no more // I’ll buy violets and daisies to get back my baby, it’s gonna take all you got // it’s a bad day for love, but a good day for flower shops”

Wallen and ERNEST have been good friends for a while now; ERNEST even co-wrote eleven tracks on Wallen’s 10 week-number one project Dangerous: The Double Album.  ERNEST has already had a successful career as a songwriter but is looking for some of his own material to go on tour with as well. He has several singles out including “Cheers” and “American Rust,” and a nine-track project titled Locals Only released in 2019, but “Flower Shops” might be the song to put his name on the map as an entertainer.

The two performed the song together on the first night of Wallen’s The Dangerous Tour 2022 kick-off during a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden. Check out the performance below.

ERNEST Releases Brand New Song, “American Rust”

ERNEST’s new song “American Rust” is available now, June 4th, on all streaming platforms, take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new song.

Ernest Keith Smith, known professionally as ERNEST, is one of Big Loud’s predominant songwriters, penning hits for country music’s biggest stars including Morgan Wallen, Chris Lane, Florida Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, Mitchell Tenpenny, and more. ERNEST co-wrote 11 tracks on Wallen’s 10 week-number one project Dangerous: The Double Album. Simultaneously, the successful songwriter is building his own solo career as an artist with his new song “American Rust,” out today on all platforms. The new track serves as the follow-up to his latest single, “Cheers,” which came out just before the New Year.

In “American Rust,” written by himself with Rodney Clawson and Jordan Reynolds, he gets nostalgic and pays homage to small-town life. Behind classic fiddle and steel guitar, he admits that some things get better with age, including beer, country songs, trucks, and love. Produced by ACM Producer of the Year nominee Joey Moi, ERNEST expresses the joy of life’s little pleasures.

ERNEST scored a 3x platinum smash with Diplo and Wallen’s hit “Heartless,” plus the Young Thug and Mason Ramsey remix of Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ 14x platinum “Old Town Road.” He recently celebrated another number-one hit with Sam Hunt’s “Breaking Up Was Easy in the 90’s.” Along with songwriting, ERNEST stays busy with his podcast, Just Being ERNEST, where he talks music, life, current events, and more with old and new friends. He has had several fellow country artists on, including HARDY, Jason Aldean, Lauren Alaina, Mason Ramsey, Lainey Wilson, and more.

As ERNEST continues to release new music, he looks to have a promising career as an artist as his songs resonate with country fans everywhere.

Diplo Releases Deluxe Album Featuring “Bottle’s Bout Dead” with ERNEST

With the release of Diplo’s deluxe version of his album Snake Oil on Friday, December 18th, came his new song with ERNEST, “Bottle’s Bout Dead”.

While the original album, released in May, was Diplo’s debut country album, it was largely a crossover project. Diplo worked with artists from various musical genres and backgrounds including Thomas Rhett, Young Thug, Morgan Wallen, Cam, Blanco Brown, Zac Brown, Danielle Bradberry, Noah Cyrus, Julia Michaels, and Jonas Brothers. In addition to the already star-studded tracklist, the deluxe version now includes songs with ERNEST (“Bottle’s Bout Dead”) and Leon Bridges (“Horizon”).

“Bottle’s Bout Dead” is a metaphor for a relationship that is knowingly nearing its end. Comparing the relationship to a drink at the end of the night, it is as if you know the night is basically over, you just want to finish the last few sips before you call it quits.

“‘Cause this bottles ‘bout dead, just a couple more drops / that open sign’s on, but it’s ‘bout to turn off / this watered-down dream in the bottom of a glass / is all the proof we need, some things don’t last ”

Among a collection of songs that bounce back and forth from traditional country, this song is one of the more direct country songs on the album. Its unique and eclectic arrangement is perfect for a country fan that wants a more modern sound or for music fans in general that want a taste of country music’s incredible songwriting and vocals.

The album’s deluxe release with two additional songs should be able to hold fans over for a little longer as they await the release of Diplo’s ‘Chapter 2’ Album.

ERNEST Releases A Song of Thanks For Our Blessings, Titled “Cheers”

Already a multi-platinum, multi-number one songwriter, ERNEST is releasing music of his own as an artist, and his latest song “Cheers” celebrates the best things in life.

Cheers Ernest

Grab a bottle, crack a can, raise your hand, here’s to beer – cheers!”

Momma, Jesus, Party People – just a few who are named by ERNEST and who he is proud to raise a glass to in his new single, “Cheers”. The perfect way to highlight the good things in your life – this feel-good tune caps off a rather frustrating and unprecedented year. ERNEST co-wrote the track with Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line, plus Henry Agincourt Allen, Emi Dragoi, and Jordan Schmidt. Choosing to focus on our blessings and the things we should never take for granted, including freedom, football, tailgates, and home cooked meals.

“For the music and for the love, I thank the good Lord above”

Definitely one to add to your playlist during this season, “Cheers” can be the backdrop to your family Zoom parties on Christmas Day or while you wait to countdown to the new year.

Mason Ramsey & Friends Entertains Fans in New York City

This past Thursday night, Mason Ramsey brought his rodeo to lower a Manhattan venue, Gramercy Theatre, with special guests Jenna Paulette and ERNEST. While only 12 years old, Ramsey held the room in the palm of his hand, singing a variety of originals and covers while showcasing his yodeling and dancing skills for the crowd. Penned Lil Hank Williams, he certainly lived up to his nickname.

Jenna Paulette Mason Ramsey

First up was rising Texan singer/songwriter Jenna Paulette, a long-time member of writers circle Song Suffragettes in Nashville. When the lights were dimmed, the crowd went wild as Paulette walked out, clad in a fringe skirt and cowboy hat. She opened her set with “Wild Like the West,” an upbeat song about her wild personality. When Paulette played current single “Blue Jeans”, the crowd was hooked. “This is my first time playing a show in New York City,” she said, to which the crowd cheered. She closed with hit “F-150”, and asked the crowd to send a “yeehaw” back to Mason Ramsey before leaving the stage. To learn more about the Texas native check out our Swag Spotlight from earlier this year.

Next was songwriter-turned-artist ERNEST. Performing with just his guitar, ERNEST stole the show, performing a slew of hits recorded by artists such as Morgan Wallen and Chris Lane, as well as new songs on his debut EP, Locals Only, released this past Friday, October 11th. “This is what helped me sign my first publishing deal,” he said before playing his catchy hook “Blacked Out”. He sang it another time after free-styling to the word “mullet” at a suggestion by a fan. After singing “Sugar”, a fan shouted, “Play ‘Blacked Out’ again!” He laughed and responded, “Y’all don’t wanna ruin the present now, do you? It’s coming,” And with that, he closed his set to a deafening sing-along of “Blacked Out”. His music is perfect for fans of Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen.

Mason Ramsey

When the lights flickered on and off, signaling that Mason Ramsey was about to enter the room, people started excitedly running to the front of the stage, chanting, “Mason, Mason, Mason”. He followed his band out, singing and shredding the guitar like it was nobody’s business. He opened with his original song, “The Way I See It”, and the audience knew every word. “So… I’m happy to be in New York. Tour’s fun… except for that one incident I had on my bike, I crashed,” Ramsey told the crowd, laughing and cheering. “Now we’re gonna go a little classic,” Ramsey said. “Let’s take it back with ‘Ring of Fire’ by Johnny Cash.” The crowd was thrilled to hear it, screaming the words back to him as he made his way to the front of the stage, hi-fiving fans. Following his Cash cover, he played four Hank Williams covers, which included, “Jambalaya”, “Hey Good Lookin” and “Your Cheatin Heart”.

“It’s a true story,” Ramsey laughed, telling the crowd. “My grandma needed towels at Walmart, and I decided, in this weird little aisle, like Aisle #12 or something like that, to sing a couple of songs, and then a circle started forming around me. And after that, there was this lady who said, ‘Can you sing me a special song?’ And she recorded it. And that song goes like this,” he said, nodding to the band who started up the song that started it all, Hank Williams’ “Lonesome Blues”.

Mason Ramsey

After singing an unreleased song, “Gone”, Ramsey surprised the crowd with his verse of Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”. For his two encores, Ramsey brought out ERNEST to sing “Twang” and Jenna Paulette to sing “Famous”, closing the show to the entire venue singing both songs at the top of their lungs. Ramsey, ERNEST, and Paulette all seemed to be so thrilled to be on stage together, soaking in every moment.

It’s not every day a 12-year-old embarks on a headlining tour with a stop in New York City. After success on social media, it was incredibly impressive to see how dedicated his fanbase is and how truly talented he is. This show had something for everyone – if you can, make sure to catch the HOW’S UR GIRL & HOW’S UR FAMILY PT. 2 Tour. Additional dates at www.masonramseyofficial.com

NYCS First Impression: Ernest ‘Locals Only’

Ernest

While you may not be familiar with Ernest just yet, chances are you’ve heard a song or two that he’s had a hand in writing. With cuts by Florida Georgia Line (“Dig Your Roots”), Chris Lane (“Big, Big Plans”), Jake Owen, LoCash, Mason Ramsey, and more, he’s been making a name for himself in Nashville as a songwriter. Today (October 11), he released his debut project as a Big Loud Records’ artist, a nine-track collection entitled Locals Only.

With a sound described as “tropical cowboy,” Ernest co-penned every song on the project with some of Nashville’s biggest names, including Corey Crowder, Rodney Clawson, Jordan Reynolds, and FGL’s Brian Kelly. Producers on the album include Joey Moi, Jacob Durrett, and Jordan Schmidt.

The album is an uptempo mix of groovy, feel-good tracks that are sure to have you bobbing your head from the first seconds through the closing notes. Opening with “I Think I Love You,” the first track sets the tone for the record with its hints of island mixed with clever lyrics. The vibe continues on the album’s second track, “Insane,” where Ernest sings of how a woman makes him crazy, in the best possible way.

“Sugar” is one of the album’s highlights, and would easily fit in on both country and pop radio. “Coolin’ (The Island Interlude)” takes the island vibe to a whole new level, sounding like a song that would’ve been recorded by Kenny Chesney. “Brain On Love” is a clever spin on the old adage of one having a “brain on drugs,” but here, Ernest celebrates his “brain on love,” but don’t worry, he sings. “I like it, I like it.” Other highlights include “Hard Way” and the album’s title track, “Locals Only.”

Locals Only is a solid debut release from Ernest that’s sure to carve out his niche as one of Nashville’s tropical cowboys. With catchy lyrics, laid-back melodies, and an effortless vibe, it’s only a matter of time before Ernest becomes one of music’s newest stars.

Locals Only Track Listing
1. “I Think I Love You” (Jacob Durrett, Ernest K Smith)
2. “Insane” (Jacob Durrett, Ernest K Smith)
