Who Is David J? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is David J? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Quick Facts:

Full Name – David J

Birthday – October 2nd, 2003

Hometown – Rotterdam, New York

Musical influences – Justin Bieber, HARDY, Chris Brown

The Beginning:

Today we get to introduce you to a fresh new country artist, who is a New York native! David J is a Nashville-transplant, who is already making waves in the music industry at just eighteen years old. We chatted with the singer all about his journey thus far.

The Rotterdam native became attracted to music at the tender age of thirteen. “I started doing music when I was like 13, after watching the Justin Bieber movie one day,” shared David J, adding later, that he still loves that movie and Bieber. “I thought it would be cool to do what he was doing, so that whole summer when I was thirteen, I taught myself to sing and play guitar.”

What started at first as a hobby, music soon became a passion for the young entertainer. “I fell in love with music, while trying to do what he was doing. It was a big inspiration for me,” stated David J.

With access to so many different musical genres, the singer-songwriter found inspiration that runs the gamut. “I was listening to country for sure that was definitely thrown in there, but like, from my mom, I would get like rock music and pop and kind of like rap from my friends and stuff. It was kind of just like one big ball of music I guess, like not just one genre,” shared David J. Currently, the singer shares a liking to artists like HARDY, Lewis Capaldi, Morgan Wallen, and old Chris Brown.

Soon thereafter, the artist started to post videos on social media, blossoming into the artist he is now.

The Turning Point:

“As I started going with it and just started posting videos and stuff on YouTube, and Instagram, and TikTok, they started blowing up a little bit. Then I got my one video that got 10 million views, and that started to snowball a bit.”

While David J was hard at work growing his social media presence, he yearned for a record deal to continue to pursue his dream. “It was New Year’s Eve, two years ago, I think, and I was like it would be really nice to just get signed this year,” began the singer. “And then New Year’s Day, one of my fans sent a video to my now managers, and I was on a plane to Nashville two days later, and I got signed by them.”

David J continued to grow his talent, while in Nashville. “Once I started learning guitar, I just started writing and stuff. […] I worked really hard at it, and stayed up late nights to get good at it.” The singer later shared, “I just like making stuff that I think is good content and people seem to enjoy it. I always want to make people laugh at my stuff or make them feel a certain way.”

Today:

As his career continues to blossom, David J recently released his debut EP, Lost My Heartbreak. The six-song project showcases the best of the singer-songwriter’s talent, featuring songs that fans have been begging for on social media too. “It’s got three new songs on it. I wrote one of them, a song called “First Kiss,” it was the first song I ever wrote after getting signed,” shared the artist.

“Because Of You” is another standout track on the record. It is the perfect love song for anyone who is looking to swoon from a country song. Similarly, David J’s song “U or Nothing” is another heartfelt bop. “That song I wrote with one of my best friends, Dylan Brady, and we were just messing around, listening to one direction on the way to the session. And we were inspired to write a One Direction country song,” shared the singer, about the track.

Fans can anticipate even more music coming out soon. The sky is the limit for the rising artist!

Whether in relationships or jobs, our families, our dreams or our let downs, I just wrote the whole thing praying someone just might relate to a story or two.” We think that pretty much personifies the debut record!

Madison Kozak Releases Brand New Song “If We Were A Country Song”

Madison Kozak’s new song, “If We Were A Country Song”  is out now, May 20th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new song below.

Madison Kozak entered the music scene as a brand-new college graduate with a unique voice and a story to tell. Her previously released songs are absolutely fantastic, and her first new release in over two years, “If We Were A Country Song” was well worth the wait.

The song opens with a stunning solitaire piano in ¾, immediately drawing you into the moody, heartbroken state that Kozak is in. The first line hits you with the hurt almost immediately:

“If we were a country song // We would be the kind people break up to // Then make love all night.”

The story continues into a chorus with incredibly interesting harmonic choices. It’s classic, and yet her use of major and minor chords does not go unnoticed.

“What a mess we made, but what a work of art // Would’ve gone all the way // To number one on the chart // If we were a country song.”

In the second verse, she talks about the song being in ¾ time, alluding to the fact that this is the very country song she is singing about.

“I hope this next chapter of music brings connection,” Kozak shares in a press release. “That’s something I’ve been craving so much, and music is a connector for me. So, I go to some pretty honest places with these songs. And I hope that the listeners feel that honesty and that they’ll meet me there.”

Madison Kozak is one of the most promising young artists and writers in country music today and this new chapter of music proves that she is poised for greatness.

Lainey Wilson Drops New Song “Heart Like A Truck” Out Now

Lainey Wilson’s new song, “Heart Like A Truck”  is out now, May 20th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new song below.

A true-blue country songstress, Lainey Wilson is the real deal! If you loved Wilson’s hit single, “Things a Man Oughta Know” and her recent number one song with Cole Swindell, “Never Say Never,” then you will love her new song. Today, the singer-songwriter releases “Heart Like A Truck.”

Wilson never shies away from her speaking her truth through her music.  The semi-autobiographical song, “Heart Like A Truck,” continues to prove that notion. The new song is poignant, heartfelt, and raw. It is easy to feel all the experiences a person goes through in the name of love.

“I got a heart like a truck // It’s been drug through the mud // Runs on dreams and gasoline // And that old highway holds a key // It’s got a led foot down when it’s leaving // Lord knows it’s taken a hell of a beaten // Little bit of a love is all that it’s needed // But as good, as it is tough, I got a heart like a truck.”

According to Wilson, these past few months have taught her so much, which inspired this song.  “’Heart Like A Truck’ is all about self-discovery, growth, and embracing scars as badges of honor. After all, a truck that has hit a few bumps and earned some scratches has proved itself and its tenacity—the shiny one on the lot can’t say that,” shared the singer-songwriter in a recent press release.

The new single is definitely a must-listen!

Who Is Seth Ennis? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Seth Ennis? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Seth Ennis

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Seth Ennis

Birthday – November 30th, 1992

Hometown – Valdosta, Georgia

Musical influences – Eric Church, Vince Gill, Taylor Swift

The Beginning:

Ever since he burst onto the country music scene with “Woke Up In Nashville,” we have been huge fans of today’s spotlight artist. Seth Ennis is an absolute force in the pop-country world and will continue to rise to greater heights. We chatted with the singer-songwriter all about his story thus far.

Growing up, Ennis’ father was in the military, which allowed him to live all over the world. “I kind of call Valdosta my hometown because that’s where I lived the longest,” began the singer. Despite living in different parts of the world, the south always felt like home. “My parents are both from the south, so I kind of grew up on country music.” Adding, “My mom’s dad, my Papa, was super huge into bluegrass,” explained Ennis.

Music was such a staple in the singer’s life. At the age of five, Ennis’ dad encouraged him to get into piano lessons. Later on, he learned to play guitar too. When he was old enough to choose his own music, the singer gravitated towards the likes of Eric Church, Vince Gill, and even Taylor Swift.

“As far as country music influences, Eric Church is kind of like my number one. He’s one of my heroes. Vince Gill has also always been a hero of mine.” Ennis even admits to respecting Swift for her songwriting talent. “As far as other stuff, I feel like it’s always changing to me, but a big one growing up for me is Taylor Swift. I was super into her songwriting. I just love songwriting so much.”

After college, Ennis decided to pursue music more seriously. The artist moved to North Carolina with some of his friends to further his talent. “[We] just kind of locked ourselves in the house and learned how to co-write songs.”

The Turning Point:

Shortly after, Ennis and his friends made the move to Music City, which jumpstarted his career. “After a year, we felt like we all had a better grip on [co-writing], so we moved to Nashville. We all lived in bunk beds in a one-bedroom apartment behind Exit-In and we just figured it out,” shared the singer.

While living in Nashville, Ennis and his friends tried to meet as many people as they could. “We would go out to Whiskey Jam every Monday night and Tin Roof Revival on Tuesday nights, and a writer’s round on Wednesday, and then I was on the road from Thursday to Sunday,” shared the singer, reflecting on his experience.

He added later, “I would try to meet people and get in the circles that we felt like they liked what we did and we liked what they did.” Armed with a bunch of new friends and connections, Ennis made a goal to play at CMA Fest.

“I didn’t have an agent or manager or anything, so I saw that Budlight was putting on this like battle of the bands thing, and I entered.” Interestingly enough, Ennis did not originally get accepted to the competition, but later was asked to play, when someone dropped out.

Some of the judges ended up being – his first producer in town, Corey Crowder and his now, publisher, Scott. “It was one of those right place, right time things, and they ended up signing me,” shared the singer, adding, “The record deal with SONY came soon after that, and we were off and running.”

Today:

Nowadays, Ennis is feeling like a permanent fixture in the music industry. He plans to release as much new music as possible this year to keep fans on their toes. “I’m not trying to be so precious about a plan with everything as I used to be,” shared the singer. “I’m just trying to like put out music as soon as I get it now, which I am super stoked about.”

Most recently, Ennis released his new song, “Hair Ties (I Dont’ Wanna).” The pop-country song is all about trying to move on without constant reminders of your ex. The singer wrote the track with Geoff Warburton, and Matt Mcvaney a few years ago in a co-write. “It was just kinda a title I had and an idea, and we got in a room, and honesty we weren’t even trying to write for me that day- we were just trying to write a song for pitch,” shared Ennis.

The song ended up not getting cut, but it fit perfectly with the singer’s catalog of music. It was a true blessing in disguise. Fans can anticipate Ennis singing the song on the road on tour dates real soon!

Luke Combs’ “Doin’ This” Marks His 13th Number One Song

Luke Combs continues his streak of number ones with his 13th song to top the country charts, “Doin’ This.”

We are running out of words to explain Luke Combs’ stardom. There is simply no one else like him in the country music genre. Continuing his record success, the singer-songwriter has added to his consecutive streak of hit songs. This week, Combs’ song “Doin’ This” marks his 13th number one single at country radio.

It is hard to believe how new the song really is! Combs’ debuted “Doin’ This” back in November at the CMA’s, captivating fans and industry-alike, who were in attendance. The song is one of the entertainers most personal to date, and it is only fitting that country radio fell in with it too.

“I’d have a Friday night crowd in the palm of my hand // Cup of brown liquor, couple buddies in a band // Singin’ them same damn songs like I am now // I’d be feelin’ on fire on a hardwood stage // Bright lights like lightning runnin’ through my veins // at the Grand Ole Opry or a show in some no-name town // I’d still be doin’ this if I wasn’t doin’ this”

Fans can catch the number one single and many more on one of Combs’ many upcoming tour dates. Check out his full schedule here.

RaeLynn drops two new songs, “I Love My Hometown” and “If God Took Days Off”, out now, May 13th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new songs below.

RaeLynn has never shied away from her sassy, country signature sound. From day one, the songstress burst on to the country music scene with a true authenticity that is hard not to fall in love with. Today, the singer-songwriter is giving fans, not one, but two brand new songs to pump through the speakers. “I Love My Hometown” and “If God Took Days Off” are officially here!

On “I Love My Hometown”, RaeLynn proves that she will never be over professing her love for her country roots. The song features all the typical country staples, like trucks, small-town love, and pretty country views, but for some reason, the song still screams innovation. RaeLynn and her vocal twang make this song a surefire bop for the summer!

“I love my hometown ’cause it’s so g // when I walk around everyone knows me // It’s like ‘hey, how you living’ // bout as easy as the cricks and cricket // you don’t get this in the city like you do out in the sticks // you can’t get this kinda pretty, bout as real as real gets”

When it comes to the second new song, “If God Took Days Off,” you will be blasting this through your speakers for a different reason. The song evokes pure emotion. RaeLynn taps into her vulnerable side, as she ponders what the world would look like if God took a break from creating and protecting. The song is poignant and relatable.

“Forever wouldn’t be waiting on us // Our paths might never have crossed // If God took days off // I thank God that he don’t // I thank God that didn’t // I thank God every time I was praying, he was listening”

Both new songs showcase different sides of RaeLynn’s talent and charm. Country music needs her and her one-of-a-kind talent. She is a firm staple in the genre!

Listen to Ingrid Andress’ New Song “Seeing Someone Else” Here

Ingrid Andress releases her brand new song, “Seeing Someone Else,” out now, May 13th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new song below.

Ingrid Andress just dropped her latest track “Seeing Someone Else”, which follows her recent release “New Person” last month. The “Lady Like” and “More Hearts Than Mine” singer is gearing up for the release of her next album.

The GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter describes the making of the upcoming album as real adventure – a mixture of fun and exciting new things, but also with some struggle. It’s the contrast that she enjoys. She shares, “making this album was one of the most painful processes I’ve ever been through, but it was also the brightest and the best. It’s crazy how you can experience both those things at the same time.” She describes the project as being even more reflective, confessive, and deeper than her debut album Lady Like. “I didn’t think I could be more open, but I guess I am. Just when you think you’ve exposed it all, you see that you only just cracked it.”

Unable to tour in support of Lady Like, as the album debuted in March of 2020, Andress dove back into songwriting. It was her way of processing everything, and a way to force herself to look into her personal life – again. Focusing on her reality and checking in on how she was feeling brought her to the realization, and ultimately what this album is, which was that “I wasn’t happy and I needed to fix it”.

Andress co-produced the project, pushing boundaries fearlessly in everything from sound, arrangement, and vocals, not allowing her or her music to be labeled or put in a box. She shared that “the first album was me trying to discover who I was as an artist and this one is just me being purely raw with what I was going through. I didn’t know what it’s going to sound like, I just stuck to the experiences I was having and it all came together naturally from being honest and processing my life.”

Written by Ingrid Andress, Jesse Frasure, and Derrick Southerland, “Seeing Someone Else” is a realization that your partner is not in love with you, but rather with the past version of yourself. Ironically, they are not on the phone with someone new, or staying out with someone else, but they are holding on to a version of you that no longer exists. Having to confront this painful realization, she must acknowledge that the relationship is not going to work if he would rather have what she feels is the lesser version of herself, over the woman she has become.

“I think you’re seeing someone else // I think you’re seeing who I used to be // I bet you wish I was the girl that you met // Out at a bar making a mess, so twenty-three // And if you’re honest with yourself // You know you’re hanging onto history // Yeah yeah // You say you’re still in love but it’s so obvious when you look at me // I think you’re seeing someone else”

Andress will be Keith Urban’s The Speed of Now World Tour 2022 this summer. The tour makes a stop on Long Island at the UBS Arena on October 22nd. You can get your tickets here.
