Parmalee Earns Number One at Country Radio with “Take My Name”

Parmalee secures another number one song at country radio with their romantic single, “Take My Name.” Learn more about the success below.

Country band, Parmalee is finding momentum once again with their music. In 2021, the platinum-selling act topped the charts with their collaborative track, “Just The Way” with Blanco Brown. Today, Parmalee scores yet another number one song at country radio with their latest single, “Take My Name.”

It is no wonder that the romantic love song reached the top of the charts! “Take My Name” is the perfect song for couples in love and for people who yearn for a true love, like the one described in the song. The simple message behind the song is both nostalgic and relatable. Country music needs more good-hearted songs like this on the radio.

“So take my hand, let me make you mine // I’m through waiting, taking my time // Never felt like this before // Take my name and make it yours // I know I’m the last guy anybody think might // Ever be talking like this, yeah // But I can see my future in your eyes tonight // And taste forever on your lips”

This makes Parmalee’s third number one song of their career. We wonder what song will be next! Congrats to Parmalee and their team!

Who Is Morgan Johnston? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Morgan Johnston? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-morgan-johnston
The Beginning:

Today we are shining our spotlight on Morgan Johnston, a talented singer-songwriter from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The songstress grew up singing and performing on stage with her eccentric, yet supportive family in tow.

“I grew up playing at these local bars. Both of my parents are in the animal entertainment industry. They are both dog trainers,” began Johnston. “They would travel and do these fair circuits and my dad would try to get me to just try to sing in front of people by singing the national anthem at these events.”

Her family always encouraged her to sing and use her beautiful voice. At the age of thirteen, Johnston began adding writing to her repertoire.“I started writing at 13 years old. Just the classic, heartbreak, boy songs,” shared the singer, adding, “It was a way to get my emotions out on paper.”

Johnston found early inspiration in artists like George Strait, The Chicks, Britney Spears, and Shania Twain. Nowadays, she still finds inspiration in talented female artists in the industry. I am so fascinated by the up and coming journey of it to, who may not be huge, but are grinding and doing so well like Lainey Wilson or Ingrid Andress. My icons, however, are Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, and Maren Morris.”

Despite a clear love for music, Johnston never truly saw it as a career path, so she attended college in Ohio on a scholarship for riding horses. When she turned 21 and went to Nashville, all of that changed.

The Turning Point:

“On my 21st birthday, I came to Nashville, and I had a friend who was dating Brett Young at the time,” began Johnston. “When we got there, he asked me if I wanted to play Whiskey Jam.” During that trip, the songstress learned that there was a path for her to play music for a living.

“I always tell that story because I moved [to Nashville] three months later after that weekend trip to Nashville […] I usually say that Brett pretty much gave me that power and knowledge that there was a path to do it.”

In 2016, when she made the move to Music City, Johnston found herself wanting to soak in as much as she could with people who were also beginning in the industry. “When you get here, you don’t want to hang out with [more established artists]. There’s so much learning and growing that you have to do. Learning about the industry, learning about yourself, learning about what you want to do yourself in the industry,” shared the singer.

During her time cultivating her sound in Nashville, Johnston found her people. “I came here and just started to hang out with people who also just got here and were trying to write with whoever they could and were looking for friends, real friends.”

She added later, “That’s kind of how I found the group of people that I just love and are inspired by, and they might not be hit writers yet, but I believe that we are all going to have success together. That’s my favorite part of being in Nashville.”

Today:

Flash forward to today, Johnston is a working singer-songwriter in the industry. For the last six years, she has been paving a spot for herself in the talented landscape that Nashville has to offer. Most recently, the singer released an incredible new song called “The End.”

“This is kind of funny because it is probably one of the most lighthearted songs I have put out. I really struggle with love songs,” shared the singer, when asked about the inspiration for the clever track. “For some reason there is a lack of substance to love songs to me sometimes, if they are a little too bubbly.”

Johnston went on to share that the concept of “The End” inspired her to want to create a love song. “When people talk about love and are like ‘I fell in love and never looked back,’ and for me, yes, I have fallen in love and not looked back in a sense, but there’s a nervousness and a scariness that you feel when you meet the person and you’re like I think this is going to be it, and no one ever talks about that.” This creative new outlook on love is both relatable and inspiring.

The singer has another new song coming down the pipeline too! “After Me,” a fan-favorite on socials, is slated for release on July 1st. If that news is not enough, the singer also shared with us that an album is coming later this year. Johnston is continuing to up her staying power with each and every exciting announcement!

Kasey Tyndall Shares Honest New Song “Babies”

Kasey Tyndall’s honest new song, “Babies” is out now, June 17th, on all streaming platforms. Learn more about the song and listen to the brand new track below.

Kasey Tyndall is a rising artist in the industry that we have been captivated by, since she dropped her single, “Jesus and Joan Jett.” Tyndall is an artist all her own. She creates music that speaks to her soul, but also is relatable to the listener. Most recently, the songstress releases her brand new song, “Babies.”

The new single, “Babies” is songwriting gold. Written by Tyndall, Smith Ahnquist, and Garry Garris, the single is a song about growing up. On the verses, the singer-songwriter tries to make sense of the timing of her life. It can be hard to see all your friends and family settling down, when you do not quite feel ready for that. It is an honest portrayal of the fact that everyone has different paths in life.

“I’ve been living like I’m never gonna be // Anything other than young // The thing about time it sure flies by // when you don’t wanna grow up // I don’t really think about // Trying to settle down // But its hard not not to lately // Cuz All my exes call me crazy // All my friends are having babies”

Tyndall’s vulnerability and honesty in this song is what makes her so attractive to her growing fanbase. She continues to release music that is true to her spirit and her musical compass. “Babies” is a great add to your music library.

Brett Eldredge: ‘Songs About You’ – Album Review + Interview

Brett Eldredge’s new album, Songs About You is officially out now, June 17th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the record below and check out our full review.

Brett Eldredge first came on to the country music scene with his soulful voice and unique perspective when storytelling, and all these years later, that is still what makes him stand out. His first three records were more modern country-pop records, including his self-titled junior album, Brett Eldredge. That project is when he began to lean even more into his soulful side, and his phenomenal 2020 release Sunday Drive felt like a total cumulation of his love for americana, jazz, and, country music.

Lyrically, Songs About You is also incredibly strong. If Sunday Drive dipped a toe into a new sonic pool, Songs About You dove in wholeheartedly. It’s country meets blue-eyed soul. The album opens with the ecstaticly fun, big-band esque, “Can’t Keep Up”.

“Pour me a glass of somethin’ special // I’m in the mood to celebrate // Dance like the devil went down to Georgia // ’Cause he can’t keep up with hell we raise”

Written with longtime collaborator Heather Morgan and producer Nathan Chapman, the song is filled with horns, rhythmic, layered percussion, rowdy gang vocals, and more. It is a fantastic opening song, leaving listeners excited for the remaining 11 tracks.

“Songs About You”, the title track, is the second song on the record, and while a good portion of the record is romantic and intoxicating, there are hints of heartbreak scattered throughout. This is one of those moments. Eldredge describes that some of these songs weren’t just written about his life, but written for his fans’ lives. “That’s why I [write], for that connection, and hopefully, helping people through their lives, dance when they need to dance, cry when they need to cry,” he explained to us in recent conversation. “That’s where the title came [from], and that’s the you in these songs. Hopefully, [fans] are looking back on these songs 20 years from now and remembering that part of their life.”

“Hideaway”, the fifth track on the record is a gorgeous, simple, true songwriter’s song about leaving your anxieties and hardships behind to go somewhere to “hide away”. The album in general dances between moments of finding love, dodging heartbreak and learning to live with your anxious ghosts. This song leans towards the latter, and it’s sweet guitar is sonically, a high point on the record.

“I’ve been falling apart // Sure could use a new start // Yeah I’ll follow the needle from your steady heart”

“If I’m not writing music as therapy, then I’m listening,” he shared with us recently. “Writing, I go through stages to where I am deep in a certain place in my life where I am really reflective, like on ‘Sunday Drive’… kind of breaking down what makes me who I am and the things that hold me back… this record was sort of stepping into the confidence zone of my life and of being there for myself, and knowing my heart. It all becomes parts of therapy and self-empowering…. Music’s a magical thing.” This mindset is heard throughout the entirety of Songs About You, but really stands out on a song like “Hideaway”.

Songs like “Where Do I Sign” or “Home Sweet Love” have those old-time, Sinatra-inspired feelings that Eldredge has always been so drawn to. It’s exciting to hear those influences in his original songs this time around, and this new jazzy, bluesy sound that is heard on Songs About You seems very natural for him. The combination of this sound and his love for Americana and modern country is such an interesting sonic cocktail.

“Being vulnerable in the public eye, it’s scary sometimes, but I’ve learned to chase it,” Eldredge shares. “It’s empowering for sure, and makes me want to talk about it more, and you realize everybody is just trying to make it through this life together…. it’s the most human thing possible. I want to be here to be a voice for that.”

Without a doubt the standout of the record is the closer, “Where The Light Meets the Sea”, co-written with longtime collaborator Jordan Reynolds. Gorgeous piano by Ian Fichituk fills listeners ears and Sarah Buxton’s beautiful rich voice joins him on background harmonies.  It’s like an older brother of 2017 song “Castaway”. The song could be interpreted in several different ways. It could be about a breakup, or even something as dark as death, but it also could be about one’s battle with anxiety and depression and the decisions that come with living with both.

“All your friends say that you should be movin’ on // I hate to say it, but darlin’, I agree // I was broken but I finally found my peace // In the place where the light meets the sea”

“Being defined less by the work that I do and more so the person that I am…. that defines my music. I wanted to create a record that encourages others to find their self-acceptance, and not be so hard on yourself. There are songs on this record that are about standing up for yourself against the worries in your mind, and being there for you. That’s been a powerful thing for me.”

Eldredge once again continues to be brave in his storytelling and lays it all on the line for fans. He showcases both his highs and his lows unapologetically. It’s important to note that Songs About You is not as risky as previous album Sunday Drive. When listening to that record, it felt like holding your breath underwater. This record is the aftermath of that – when you emerge from the water and take that first deep breath. Eldredge is continuing to find himself in his writing, as an artist, and as a person, and Songs About You successfully continues Eldredge’s ongoing journey.

Jordan Fletcher makes his radio debut with his new single, “Death and Taxes,” out now on all streaming platforms. Listen to the new track below.

We became fans of Jordan Fletcher after the release of his killer debut EP, True Stories. The singer-songwriter has a unique gift for storytelling and a knack for creating lyrics that speak to the soul. His newest release, “Death and Taxes”, is no exception and serves as his debut single to country radio.

Written by Fletcher, the song embodies true determination and true life experiences. “Death And Taxes is a song about advice my dad gave me that I’m now wanting to pass on to my son. It’s about life, death, love, and family and feels like the perfect way to sum up this personal journal that ended up becoming an album,” shared Fletcher in a recent press release. The nostalgic song focuses on real-life honesty, which is both enticing and innovative.

“Death and taxes, the world moves fast and // Money and time, it don’t grow on trees // Make your bed and say your prayers // Cause life ain’t fair and it’s never gonna be // Chicks dig guitars, tattoos and scars // Trucks and cars don’t run on drinks // You can count on one hand the things you can count on // Death and taxes and your momma and me”

“Death and Taxes” is a true-blue country anthem with rocking sound. We continue to appreciate Fletcher’s efforts towards creating music that is undoubtedly him. This is a must listen to!

5 Things To Know About Brett Eldredge’s New Album ‘Songs About You’

Brett Eldredge’s brand new album, Songs About You is due out TONIGHT, June 17th at midnight! Based on a recent conversation we had with the singer-songwriter, we are sharing 5 things to know about the new record and this stage of his life.

Country Swag's Stephanie Wagner with Brett Eldredge

Country Swag’s Stephanie Wagner with Brett Eldredge

  1. Sonically, this record is different than his previous four.

“I like to try and take every record to a different place any chance I can because I don’t want to do the same thing over and over. This record gave me that opportunity, and since Sunday Drive, it gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into what I do and go after the things I haven’t gotten to do yet. I really got to take some chances.”

  1. This project isn’t just for Eldredge, it’s songs anybody can relate to, and he wants it to be universal.

“This record was [such a] wide variety of emotions, and really, I thought to myself, ‘I write the songs, and I love to sing… but at the end of the day, these songs are about you. These are songs for the people that are listening to it. That’s why I do it, for that connection, and hopefully, helping people through their lives.”

  1. Being a vulnerable and authentic writer and artist is incredibly important to Eldredge.

“I was kind of trying to find that self-love and that kid that I kind of ignored for a long time because you’re just chasing your love for music, which is amazing, but you’re also chasing the pressures…. you want to make everybody happy. But I felt empty. So I had to do that work, and Sunday Drive was the start of that work for me. Songs About You is the [true] stepping into myself in a way I never even could have imagined that I could. Going through making this record, I’ve never felt more confident in myself, what I’m doing, the music I’m making, but more importantly, the kind of person that I am away from all the music. Being defined less by the work that I do and more so the person that I am.”

  1. The album’s closer “Where The Light Meets the Sea” was originally written for Sunday Drive.

“It’s the only older song for the record. It’s a song that I wrote five years ago with Jordan Reynolds… it was one of my favorite moments writing a song. We recorded that, and it was so good that we were gonna put it on Sunday Drive, but “Sunday Drive” [the song] was the heartbeat of that record and I wanted [this song] to have a big moment on a future record, so I saved it.”

  1. Eldredge’s music taste is incredibly eclectic and listening to music can be like therapy for him.

“If I’m not writing music as therapy, then I’m listening. I usually go to nostalgic music that makes me feel like there’s magic in the world. I love Louis Armstrong’s ‘What A Wonderful World’; it gets me to a great place. It’s like a gratitude song…. I’ll listen to some Sinatra, Ray Charles, that helps me get out of a funk sometimes. Music’s a magical thing.”

Who Is Alexander Ludwig? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Alexander Ludwig? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-alexander-ludwig

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Alexander Ludwig

Birthday – May 7, 1992

Hometown – Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Musical influences – Alan Jackson, Lainey Wilson, AC/DC

The Beginning:

Today our spotlight shines on an entertainer that you may already be familiar with. Alexander Ludwig, an accomplished actor, is finally living out his dream of being a country music singer-songwriter. Despite what you may think you know about Ludwig already, we can promise you that you will agree that he belongs in country music.

“I grew up in Vancouver, Canada, but I spent most of my time in a place called Whistler Mountain,” began the singer. “When I first started to play guitar at 9 years old, I learned to play, and write songs, at a cabin in Whistler.” Ludwig credits the time he spent at an early age in the mountains, listening to country music with his family during the car ride, for his love for music today.

“So much about what I love about country music was just my love for the outdoors, the backwoods, and the simple things in life,” shared the singer. According to Ludwig, some of his favorites growing up were artists like Alan Jackson, James Taylor, and Garth Brooks. Nowadays, he appreciates artists that bring a modern take to the traditional sound of country music, such as Lainey Wilson, Morgan Wallen, and HARDY.

“My favorite artists in country music right now are the ones who manage to ride the line of, you can hear the influences from the past, but it’s a fresh take on that.” Of course, this is exactly the type of music that Ludwig set out to make.

The Turning Point:

Although Ludwig’s record deal might be fairly new, he has been creating and writing music his whole life.I’m a storyteller and country music is some of the best, if not the greatest, storytelling on the planet,” shared the artist, when asked about the connection between acting and music for him.

“Whether I’m playing an arena or a dive bar, makes no difference to me, I’d be doing this regardless,” Ludwig later added. It was evident from our conversation that whether fans knew about his music or not, the singer would always be creating music, just as he had his whole life.

When he first started taking trips to Nashville to write, he wanted the other artists and writers in the room to know how serious and passionate he was about his craft. “I want people from the country community to just see me as Alexander, the country artist. It has always been so true to who I am,” adding later, This was something I was doing whether or not I had a deal.”

Today:

For those who may not have already been introduced to Alexander, the country singer, fans are in for a real treat. Ludwig’s upcoming album Highway 99 is slated for release this August. “I named my album ‘Highway 99’ because that drive is really where I got my musical education,” shared the singer, reminiscing yet again about the road trips to Whistler Mountain.

“So much of my musical education growing up was driving through the mountains in Canada. […] When I think of this album, it wasn’t so much a story from start to finish, like a concise story, it’s this winding road of feelings that I wanted to communicate.”

Fans can already get a taste of the album with the newly released single, “Faded On Me.” Ludwig shared, “I loved coming out with that one because I thought so many people would have expected me to come out with a country love song.” The song is the perfect combination of fun and stellar songwriting to keep us anticipating the upcoming record.

“I wrote a bunch of songs on the album. David Lee Murphy has been such a champion of mine and he’s written on a few of them,” Ludwig said. “We kind of just utilized this rollercoaster of emotions all the way through. It really was the ride of my life.”

Until the record drops, fans can expect the singer to be playing as many shows as possible! “I hope that people love this and I get to keep doing this.”
