Ashley Cooke’s “Jealous Of The Sky” is available everywhere now

TikTok megastar and country singer-songwriter, Ashley Cooke debuted her new song earlier today, “Jealous Of The Sky”. Already making waves, the song is quickly climbing the charts on the iTunes, and fans are going absolutely crazy for the new tune.

“Jealous Of The Sky” is in remembrance of Cooke’s best friend, Adam who passed away from cancer. She shared a video of her friend on Instagram captioning the images with “This is for anyone who’s ever lost anyone. For me – this is for you, Adam.” A touching tearjerker, the song showcases the songstress’ voice in the best light.

“You get to be blue and grey / You don’t mind the season change / You can shine all the time / Like it’s just another day / Let the rain out when you feel like you wanna cry / Now you get to say hello, while I gotta say goodbye / I’m jealous of the sky”

Cooke sings her heart out about dealing with loss and grief, yet trying to hold it all together. Anyone who has ever lost someone they loved will relate to this song. It is clear why the singer has had so much success on social media, as she finds a way to connect with her fans in an authentic, refreshing, and genuine way.

Tim McGraw’s “I Called Mama” Claims Top Spot and Earns Him 44th Career #1

Tim McGraw’s “I Called Mama” earns him his 44th career number one as the song hits the top spot on the country charts this week.

For decades, McGraw has graced our radio airwaves, giving us the tunes that have become the soundtrack to our lives. In fact, along with this marks the fourth straight decade for McGraw on scoring No. 1 singles, to match his four-decade streak on No. 1 albums he accomplished earlier this year with his 16th studio album, HERE ON EARTH. The album serves as his first solo release in five years marking his return to Big Machine Records.

“I Called Mama” is the lead single from the record and is a message to everyone to remember the people that make our world a little brighter even during the darker times. The beautiful track is truly impactful during these unprecedented times we have been living in over the last several months through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Grabbed my guitar from the back seat / Wrote a song just for me / And I sung it for the blue sky / And a couple live oak trees / I thought of home, grabbed my phone from my pocket / And I called mama”

Written by Lance Miller, Mary Green, and Jimmy Yeary, the single is literally a reminder to call your mom, but the deeper message is to seek comfort in those who comfort you and welcome you with open arms, despite your flaws.

As the song tops the charts, McGraw continues to impress and proves that his music still resonates well with modern-day country music fans. “I Called Mama” is McGraw’s first number-one single since the iconic “Humble and Kind” debuted in 2016, but of course the singer has had many charted songs in between. We cannot wait to see which song is a hit with country music lovers next.

Fans can join our Weekly Round-Up e-newsletter here, for the latest in country music and more news about upcoming Tim McGraw announcements and releases.

Luke Combs Releases Acoustic “My Kinda Folk” In Weekly Series

Luke Combs released an acoustic preview of “My Kinda Folk” from his upcoming What You See Ain’t Always What You Get Deluxe album. Every Monday over the past four weeks, Combs has taken to social media to perform an acoustic snippet of a new track from the album in a new Weekly Series until its official release on October 23rd. Watch “My Kinda Folk” below:

“My Kinda Folk” is an ode to the hard-working men and southern lifestyle that this singer loves to endure. Lyrically, this song resembles “Blue Collar Boys,” but based on the 27 seconds he teased on his social media pages, it sounds a little more 90’s country-influenced.

There oughta be a law against working this hard and still having this much fun / We get it done, drink a beer, catch a fish, hunt a deer and then we’ll  fire up a little smoke / Me and my kinda folk

Next Monday, Combs will perform the final song and fan-favorite, “Forever After All” which he has previously played live, before officially releasing the five new songs on Friday, October 23rd.

Justin Moore Releases New Song “We Didn’t Have Much”

Justin Moore’s brand new song, “We Didn’t Have Much” is available now, October 9th on all streaming platforms following his September album release Live at the Ryman. Read more about the new track here.

After recently landing his ninth #1 single with “Why We Drink”, Justin Moore has released a brand new single almost directly following his Live at the Ryman album released September 25. “We Didn’t Have Much” focuses on all of those small yet meaningful treasures that prompt joy such as swimming holes, Sunday chicken, and the smell of coffee in the kitchen.

“I’m really excited to get ‘We Didn’t Have Much’ out to Country radio. It sounds different than any other song we’ve released to radio in my career,” Moore shares in a press release. “I think it’s a poignant lyric for this time in our lives also. 2020 has led my family and I to lead a more simple life than what we are accustomed to. This song speaks to the beauty in that simplicity.”

With magical guitar accompaniment that speaks to the nostalgia commonly considered in relation to the past, and childhood specifically, the production of this new track from Moore brings the listener back to those special moments in which we cherish and reflect on with a smile. Moments that weren’t significant at the time, though, with time, end up being greatly valued and acknowledged as such.

Justin Moore's "We Didn't Have Much" is out now

Justin Moore’s “We Didn’t Have Much” is available everywhere now

“There was dirt on daddy’s clothes / From putting that bacon on mama’s stove / Dog barking in the yard at a truck we don’t know / All we had was us / And that little bitty house and a lotta love / We had it all when we didn’t have much”

“We Didn’t Have Much”, written by Jeremy Stover, Randy Montana, and Paul DiGiovanni is the first single release of an entirely new project. A sixth-studio record from Moore is set to hit streaming platforms in 2021. Until then, anticipate this new chapter of music with the singer-songwriters tendency to paint a picture with words of “country traditionalism, vivid storytelling and signature Arkansas-bred twang”.

Kassi Ashton Releases New Song “Black Motorcycle”

Kassi Ashton’s brand new song, “Black Motorcycle” is available now, October 7th on all streaming platforms. Accompanied by the announcement of Ashton’s partnership with Harley Davidson® as a brand ambassador, take a look below as we dive into the track.

Muted lyrics to start, with a grounded beat that follows, “Black Motorcycle” has a rock country soul with punk rock style. The electric guitar and tone of Ashton’s voice encompass a struggle for rebellion and a complete rumbling of the body mimicking that of the motorcycle.

In a recent press release, Ashton explains “I’ve always in my head kind of considered my music motorcycle country. I like music with weight at the bottom. That’s freeing and moving, but still sits down here,” motioning to the pit in her stomach.

The singer-songwriter hit the nail on the head, as this track most definitely does just that. It inspires escape with the wind blowing through your hair in the chorus, and a never-ending drive that starts deep in the gut.

Ashton shares a bond with her father over their love of motorcycles, further evolved with the announcement of her partnership with Harley Davidson® as one of its brand ambassadors. She has the gritty authenticity of one who doesn’t care what anyone thinks, but still has pop tendencies to remain connected to her audience.

Brothers Osborne: Skeletons – Album Review

Brothers Osborne’s new album, Skeletons is available now, October 9th. Take a listen and check out our album review below as we dig a little deeper into the collection of songs.

Brothers Osborne New Album Skeletons

Brothers Osborne’s ‘Skeletons’ is out now, October 9th.

We have come to love Brothers Osborne as a country duo who remain true to themselves and their music, highlighting crisp country-rock and heartfelt slower tunes. As talented singers and songwriters, the men deliver an elevated, yet enticing sound with their new record Skeletons, leaning more towards the country-rock side of the gamut of their talent.

Continuing to celebrate the southern-rock groove that Brothers Osborne has created, the record takes their message to another level. “If Pawn Shop was our introduction, and Port Saint Joe was like the first conversation we had with someone over a beer, then Skeletons is the moment where you start getting down to the real stuff and showing who you really are,” John shared in a recent press release, adding, “If you really want to get to know us, this is the record to do it.”

Skeletons is begging for live-music to return, as each song has killer instrumentals and arrangements that just need a stage and an audience! Beginning with “Lighten Up,” the brothers give fans the twangy sound that we have been accustomed to. The song quickly takes a more rambunctious tone, similar to their other killer rock jam, “All Night,” the top 30 single that comes immediately after. The title track, “Skeletons” is one of the best off the record. It features spectacular guitar rifts and an extraordinary amount of energy.

“High time to come to Jesus / You got skeletons in your closet / It’s written all over your face / Every little lie, stacked so high / Can’t keep your story straight.”

The platinum-selling duo continues to play for their fans. Songs like “All The Good Ones” and “ Back On The Bottle” are backed by a steady drum and quick and witty lyrics. On the other hand, “I’m Not For Everyone” and “High Note” take a softer approach. The former starts off slower and escalates into a more mid-tempo jam that has great radio appeal. “High Note” stays on the slower side of things but conveys the more romantic side of the duo’s talent.

Another standout track is “Old Man’s Boots.’ One of the more traditional-country tunes, the song is a lyrical masterpiece. Brothers Osborne expresses the importance of boots, country roots, and all that connects the two.

“Might not look like much to you / But there really wasn’t much they couldn’t walk through.”

TJ spoke for himself, John, and his band, sharing, “We want this record to show people that we’re here to stay. We are part of the cloth of this genre,” and we think that really says it all. Skeletons is just another impressive album by Brothers Osborne, and we anticipate many more in the future!

NYCS Picks:

  1. “All Night”
  2. “Skeletons”
  3. “I’m Not For Everyone”

Travis Denning Drops Fan-Favorite New Track “Goodyears”

Travis Denning’s brand new song, “Goodyears” is available now, October 9th on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Breakout country artist, Travis Denning, proves he is here to stay with feel-good new country jam, “Goodyears”. This song arrives following the success of several recent releases, including his first No. 1, “After a Few” and current country radio single “Where That Beer’s Been”. Denning consistently delivers genuine country songs that feature a laid-back cool twist, leading his music to stand out amongst others.

The new single, “Goodyears” is a lyrically dense tune filled with clever wordplays and small-town references. The Georgia natives sings of life’s ups and downs, emphasizing that it’s the simple joys that make it all worth living. In the song’s chorus, Denning shares this message with his fans, using the double meaning of “Goodyears” and the highway as a metaphor to life.

“Rollin’ on them Goodyears / Flyin’ on them high times /  Circle K cold beer / Growin’ up on a Friday night … Just keep on doin’ how we do it to get through it ‘round here / Rollin’ on them Goodyears”

The mellow guitar strings throughout the song make for a relaxing and authentically country listening experience. Denning paints a mental picture of life growing up in a small town with lyrical nods to “Friday nights”, “Jackpot scratch-offs”, and “Two-lane” roads, bringing forward memories and connecting with his fans through relatable experiences.

Travis Denning first played this song during live sets in early 2020, where fans felt an instant connection to the smooth and invigorating sound and feel-good message. After generating an initial buzz amongst the live-show listeners, the singer-songwriter officially released the track.

Listeners can all relate that life is full of struggles, hard work, and not-so-good times, but there are also many reasons to celebrate and enjoy the simple highs, which Denning details throughout the song.

“Through the downs and the ups / all the smooth and the rough / Yeah, there’s days where you pray and days where you cuss”

We’re so glad that the Denning officially released the song and can picture this playing on country radio, while cruising on our own “Goodyears.” It’s the perfect uplifting and relatable country jam, and we can’t wait to hear more from the rising artist!

The Best Covers by Luke Combs You Didn’t Know You Needed

Luke Combs covers some of the greatest country music songs in the genre often sharing his reimagined versions with fans via his social media. He is one of the best in the country music world right now and as we anticipate the release of his upcoming deluxe album, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, we’re sharing some of our favorite songs covered by the superstar singer-songwriter.

“Austin”- Blake Shelton

Back in the beginning of his career, Combs would often cover the song that helped put fellow country superstar Blake Shelton on the mark, “Austin.” Fans can find clips of the singer belting out “Austin” even in 2017; however, earlier this year, Combs reminded fans that he can truly sing anything. His soulful rendition of “Austin” is arguably as good as Shelton’s original.

“Fast Car”- Tracey Chapman

After fans begged him to sing a full version of this song, Combs obliged, and his performance went viral. Combs’ cover is vocally-pleasing, yet effortless. He performed it most recently on one of his quarantine Facebook Lives, and truthfully, we could listen to it all day long.

“The Way I Talk”- Morgan Wallen

Fellow country singer, Morgan Wallen burst onto the scene with his true-blue country tune “The Way I Talk.” As if the stars were aligning, Wallen and Combs shared the stage back on Combs’ headlining tour, and supported one another, singing covers of each other’s songs. Wallen covered “She Got the Best of Me,” while Combs gave a soulful and stripped-down version of “The Way I Talk.”

“What Are You Listening To”- Chris Stapleton

Back in March, Instagram was swirling with the #DeepCutsChallenge. Morgan Wallen challenged Combs and in turn, he covered a song he believed deserved more credit, Chris Stapleton’s “What Are You Listening To.” It is safe to say, Combs’ cover was nothing short of extraordinary.

“Dive”- Ed Sheeran

Interestingly enough, Combs even covered pop-star and songwriter, Ed Sheeran’s song, “Dive” back in 2017. His rendition still pops up on the internet from time to time, even years later. Combs turns Sheeran’s song into a bluesy, goosebump-worthy country song. Combs even recorded the covers at Sound Stage Nashville, as part of a Spotify campaign.

“I Don’t Want This Night To End”- Luke Bryan

It’s hard to remember a time where Luke Combs wasn’t all over the charts and performing at every major venue, but back in 2011, Combs was just another young man, who loved country music. Here’s an old-school cover from the singer of Luke Bryan’s “I Don’t Want This Night To End”. This throwback is just a reminder to all of us that we all have to start somewhere, and of course, that further proves that Combs was born to be a superstar.

As Combs continues to break his own records, we look forward to more new music from him as well as what classic hits he’ll surprise fans with by covering. Luke Combs’ deluxe album, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get is set to release on Friday, October 23rd, and includes five brand new tracks.
