Six-time ACM winner and 2020 ACM Entertainer of the Year nominee, Eric Church debuted a brand new song for us last night during ACM Presents: Our Country called “Never Break Heart”. The song is appropriate for the state of the world right now as it’s about staying strong during tough times and not letting fear overcome us.
“The hardest part about this for me…has been the unknown; I believe we fear the unknown,” Church admitted before performing his new song. “I have hope, and you should have hope because, since the beginning of time, people have gathered…and we will gather again. The important thing to remember is to not fear, to be brave and to endure.”

We are anticipating the digital release of this song as well as a new album announcement from Church. Like Dierks Bentley did with writing his latest album, The Mountain, Church isolated himself with just a small team of writers in the mountains of his home state of North Carolina where he achieved his goal of writing a new song each day for 28 days straight.

‘This Is Us’ and ‘Breakthrough’ actress Chrissy Metz is a woman of many talents. From being a Hollywood star to penning her memoir “This Is Me,” and dabbling in singing on last year’s ‘Breakthrough’ movie soundtrack (which also led to a performance at the ACM Awards last year), Metz has done it all. And right now, singing is no longer just a mere dabble. Metz has just dropped her first country release “Talking To God” via EMI Nashville/UMG.
The song, co-penned by Ashley McBryde, narrates the questions an individual asks God in prayer after a break-up and how some potential truths are revealed.
“I was talkin’ to God last night / About why things happen the way they do yeah, and He shed a little light on why I’m goin’ through, what I’m goin’ through / Everything under the sun / Why some get it all / And some people fall out of love / I was talkin’ to God last night / Your name came up, your name came up,”
“‘Talking To God’ is a song about those moments when we ask the questions we desperately want the answers to,” Metz shared in a press statement. “Whether it’s a lost love or why our own lives look much different than the way we had hoped they would. It’s about those personal prayers and conversations we have while listening and learning to surrender and trust in the bigger picture.”

Tara Thompson’s “My Dogs Are Home” is a new single off her up and coming album called Circus. Thompson describes herself as hillbilly from East Tennessee. She was raised in small-town in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. She grew up on Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Dolly Parton tunes and you can hear it in her songs. Her music is rooted in traditional country, with a modern take and is inspired by real-life firsthand stories. Read more about her backstory in our Swag Spotlight here.
She also shared her thoughts about the single on her Facebook page “With all the craziness going on in the world, I hope this song can put a smile on your face. Never did I think I would be promoting new music during a world pandemic, but we have to keep living and moving on. It’s a scary time, but also a time that I’m going to choose to use what God gave me and share it with the world”
Mysterious title, great story, and amazing performance that’s how Thompson’s latest single can be described. Written with Al Anderson and Kelly Archer, “My Dogs Are Home” is a humorous song for those who are afraid of drinking alone. She has a piece of exceptional advice if you have a dog, you’ve got company so you’re not drinking by your lonesome. The track is specifically poignant for anyone who is currently facing the COVID outbreak alone and needing some encouragement to open that bottle of wine.
With this song, she proves that her star is on the rise and we look forward to her upcoming album which is a reflection on her years navigating the music industry.

Our next story of kindness hails from an organization that we have highlighted before for their acts of courage and unwavering strength. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is the leading research hospital geared towards combatting childhood cancer and other life-threatening illness. Their work is unprecedented, and they truly are an organization everyone should support.
In addition to their numerous programs like “This Shirt Saves Lives”, to support their mission even further, St Jude has a blog called St. Jude Inspire, where they tell the stories about the hospital in hopes of inspiring trust, hope, and faith in others. As their mission statement says, their goal is always “Finding cures: Saving children.”
Due to the loneliness and isolation that can be direct impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, much like us, St. Jude has added a new blog series to their site called “Inspired by Your Kindness.” As they say, in this time of social distancing, the St. Jude team is looking for ways to add some light to people’s days through feel-good stories that spread kindness.
St. Jude is showing people that we can still find human connections and light in a time of uncertainty. Their stories range from lessons you can learn from coloring to acts of compassion by teachers. Check out their series here to learn more.

“Hang in there girl, you’re gonna be alright” – Ashley McBryde’s sophomore album Never Will kicks off with an anthem for those who are feeling overwhelmed and stressed during this awful pandemic. The reigning ACM New Female Artist of the Year and CMA New Artist of the Year has been a poster child for determination, beating adversity and overcoming challenges thrown her way. Her breakout hit and title track from her first album, “Girl Goin’ Nowhere” put her on the map as a traditional country artist with a rocking soul and she continues the narrative with Never Will, released everywhere today.
Dabbling in ominous humor, putting her vices on display, one night stands and even covering up a murder, McBryde co-writing the majority of the tracks has stamped her signature on Never Will. The debut single from the project, “One Night Standards” set the tone, a no holds barred collection of songs that will engage both the traditionalists and the modern country fans.
Sonically, smattering electric guitars carry most of the major songs, (“Martha Divine”, “Never Will”) adding to McBryde’s thrilling live performance while more tender, acoustic moments like “Velvet Red” and “Stone” are a sincere look into the delicate stories of smalltown living on the former and the loss of her brother to suicide on the latter.
“Stone” one of the most somber yet poignant songs on the record flips grief on its head, similarly to Miranda Lambert’s “Over You”. Instead of coloring the song with sadness, she stays in the lines of anger and resentment that one may feel after losing someone they loved. “You taught me all about which ones sink and which ones skip / There’s throwing ones / And rolling ones / Getting us to open up was like getting blood from one / the stepping kind / The steady kind / The hey I’ve got your back ones you can stand behind.” Referencing the different stones one encounters throughout life, as well as the heartbreaking headstone.
McBryde addressed deciding to keep the April 3rd release date amidst all the uncertainty of these times, sharing with Tennessean “Music is the one thing that cannot be diminished, not by being quarantined, not by being indoors or outdoors. Music cannot be destroyed.”
The title track not only acts as an appropriate sequel to “Girl Goin’ Nowhere”, proving naysayers wrong about her career and her determination to remain authentic to herself but it showcases how her vocals command the listener. “They never did understand all the reasons we did it,” she sings, “I can point out the names and the faces of the people who said it / Oh but honestly I just don’t want ’em to get any credit.”
Wrapping the album with a silly yet heartfelt ode to all things “Styrofoam” McBryde shows a lighter side and her love for the container that keeps her beer cold. There is always the dreaded fear that most artists have of the ‘sophomore slump’, however, McBryde faces the challenge head-on, staking her claim that if you thought this girl was goin’ nowhere, you were wrong.

After blasting on to the scene with his Grammy-nominated debut record Montevallo, Sam Hunt quickly became one of country music’s most promising singer-songwriters. After a prolonged hiatus from social media, releasing music, and performing, Hunt readily regained his place in the genre, announcing a headlining tour and a new record. Today, the entertainer finally released his sophomore album entitled Southside.
In Southside, Hunt reminds fans exactly who he is and what style of music he makes. He continues that “write what you know” mentality throughout all twelve of the deeply personal and emotive tracks. Fans may recognize singles “Body Like A Back Road” and “Downtown’s Dead.” Both of which were released years before the final project. The first was an instant hit, a smooth love song where you cannot get enough of your partner, breaking records and spending 25 weeks in a row on the top of the charts. The latter depicts the story of when going out to party loses its luster when you no longer have your person by your side.
Although a new release, “Young Once” has a familiar quality to it. Similar to “Downtown’s Dead,” Hunt sings while a rhythmic hip-hop-infused beat does its part in the background. The song starts off slow, and then picks up momentum, as Hunt reminds us all to live for the moment and soak it all in while it’s happening. Of course, “Kinfolks” channels his signature hip-hop and R&B inspired country as well.
The last track will also be memorable to long-time fans too. Hunt released the somber and simply-produced song, “Drinkin’ Too Much,” back in 2017, during a time where he wanted to be with his, now wife Hannah Lee. The song is a story of repentance, where the singer admits his wrongdoings, apologizes, and by name, reminds his partner that they are meant to be together. Hunt relies on his emotive songwriting and his signature speaking and singing voice to nail the delivery and more importantly, win his lady back.
Listeners will hear Hunt’s talking voice again in the verses of “That Ain’t Beautiful.” In the same vein as “Drinkin’ Too Much,” Hunt tells a story, singing about how a girl can do better and that her actions do not reflect who she really is. Although a case of tough love, you truly feel the story Hunt is telling, and cannot help but to reflect on your own decisions while listening to the retrospective tune.
“Breaking Up Was Easy In The 90’s” begins with a talking verse as well. Similar to “Break Up In A Small Town,” Hunt sings about how difficult break-ups are in modern-day society. He comes to the conclusion that breaking up was easier in the 90s. The cleverly strung together lyrics, make it hard not to fall in love with this all too relatable song.
“Funny how you haven’t changed a bit / You’re twice as pretty / Glad you finally got to see New York City / I know it’s not a race but looks like you’re getting over me faster than I’m getting over you / But hey / What you gonna do.”
Hunt revisits his past again in one of our favorite songs off the new record called “2016.” The cut transports us back in time, as the singer shines a light on the past, retrospectively reflecting on what he could have done different. He sings “I’d put the whiskey back in the bottle. Put the smoke back in the joint.” He first revealed the new song at Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in February. The song is one of his most vulnerable and passionate to date, and the poetic nature of the song is the perfect backdrop to Hunt’s vocals.
Interestingly enough, similar to how Hunt’s hit single “Make You Miss Me” appeared to be an outlier on the debut record, the singer includes two ballads on Southside, which often feels like a departure from his typical sound. Regardless, both “Nothing Last Forever,” and the previously released single “Sinning With You” are two poignant and necessary tracks off the record.
Hunt pours his heart in the R&B-inspired “Nothing Last Forever,” which is much more than the break-up song it appears to be. On the contrary, “Sinning With You” focuses on the disconnect and connection between religion and being in a serious relationship that Hunt struggled with growing up, proving that he is willing to take risks in both life and music.
Although Hunt didn’t exactly revamp his sound or maybe didn’t surprise fans with a different style, he delivered exactly what we wanted from a Sam Hunt project. Southside has a consistent, yet elevated vibe, and in a time of change and chaos, we appreciate that we can always rely on him to deliver a solid, strong, and heartfelt record.

Nobody will ever sing a love song like Kenny Rogers did. The country music legend died last month but his music will live on forever. Rogers wasn’t defined by any genre, although country and pop songs were the main sources of his 120 hit singles. He was a man who brought country music to pop listeners.
Rogers recorded 39 studio albums, 21 number one country hits and sold over 100 million records during his career which lasted over seven decades. He was a marvelous performer, is husky voice carried away the crowds and he always sang with sincerity and warmth.
Over the years Rogers delivered hits like “Lady’, “The Gambler”, “Lucille”, “She Believes In Me”, “Crazy”, “Coward of The County”, “Through The Years” and many more. If you want to listen to them, there’s a great video available on YouTube Kenny Rogers – Live By Request. Anyway, this list isn’t about his greatest hits but it’s about his little less known but still great songs.
Runaway Girl – An uplifting and happy melody will make any sad day a little brighter. “Runaway girl, there’s someone here who loves you/ And understands you, you’re not alone/ Runaway girl, I won’t stop until I found you/ And put my arms around you and take you home”
I’ll Just Write My Music and Sing My Songs – It seems to be a song about writing music but it’s a bit deeper than that. It’s about heartaches and struggles in finding love. “I’ll write a song about heartache, cause heartache is my namesake/ We’ve come to know each other so very well/ And misery is my lover, it’s closer than a brother/ Cause it runs in my bloodstream so deep and so mean”
So In Love With You – Love seems to be the main theme of his songs. They all are similar yet completely different. Every song has its own peculiar twists and play on words. “Come on girl, I need you here beside me/ I’ll show you love like you’ve never known/ And I will tell the world how much I love you/ ‘Cos all I wanna do is take you home/ ‘Cos I’m so in love”
People In Love – There’s nothing more beautiful than people in love. Being loved by someone makes your life better and brighter. True love is the key to a beautiful life. “People in love/ Live every day/ Knowing each other by heart/ A power of two/ Leading them through/ Like a torch in the dark”
Buy Me a Rose – It’s a known Kenny Rogers song but it’s still forgotten. Little things are the key to a happy relationship and a good life. “Buy me a rose, call me from work/ Open a door for me, what would it hurt/ Show me you love me by the look in your eyes/ These are the little things I need the most in my life”
Bed of Roses – Love isn’t a fairytale, it has its ups and downs. There are no knights in shining armor but there are ordinary men who can make a woman feel special and appreciated. “There’s no diamond on your finger/ Just a simple wedding bend/ Since your knight in shining armor/ Is just an ordinary man/ though I promised you a kingdom/ And we don’t have all we planned/ One of these nights when we’re making belief/ I’m gonna take you by the hand”
Santiago Midnight Moonlight – Sometimes heartbreak is just the beginning of something great. You never know when you’ll meet a sweet senorita and you’ll live happily ever after. “Tropical stars above/ Santiago midnight moonlight / The perfect place to fall in love / I can’t seem to get her off of my mind / She was the one of a kind / I was so lucky to find”
Midsummer Nights – There’s something special about summer nights. The smell, warmth, and desire to live in those summer nights stay in your mind forever. It’s a beam of hope during snowy winter days. Is it summer yet? “She makes me tremble like I never before/ Bringing me up to keep me begging for more/ In every hour to be, let me satisfy your heart/ I can take the lonely days/ In return for the midsummer nights”
In Our Old Age, – There’s a saying that “Life gets better after 50”. It has to true because even science proves it Science Proves That Happiness Begins at 50. “Life does not grow dimmer with the settin’ of the sun/ The best years of our lives still are yet to come/ In our old age love will just get better/ The longer we’re together, we’ll grow stronger every day/ Our bodies may get weaker and our hair will turn gray/ But love will never fade in our old age (love will never fade)”
727 East Magnolia – There are places that bring back memories, special places like first home, old school, closed theater. The places make you reminisce about good ole days. “And I could see you in my football jersey raking leaves/ I could see me hanging lights on our first Christmas tree/ I could see us nail those numbers on the door that afternoon/ At 727 East Magnolia Avenue”
Kenny Rogers left a permanent mark on those who enjoyed his music. He left a wonderful legacy and his footprint on country music is undeniable. He was more than just Sweet Music Man. Rest in Peace Kenny.

Spanning over three countries and four different time zones, the six members of the rising country group, King Calaway decided to put the downtime to good use and hold a band practice via video chat. Over the weekend, they shared a sample of their session on Instagram, performing “Obvious”, a tune off their most recent record, Rivers. Watch it below!
King Calaway was slotted to open up for Rascal Flatts on the back half of their Life is a Highway Farewell Tour starting August 6th in Cincinnati. Hopefully, the world is in a better place by then as this is such a huge opportunity for this young group with enormous potential in the industry.

If you are anything like me you often feel like you are behind in life or maybe that your life is not exactly where you thought it would be when you were younger. I am here to tell you that, that is okay! Our 20s are a time of growth and exploration, so next time you are feeling stuck, uninspired, behind or just need a pick me up, remember these five simple realizations.
1. Your 20s are for taking risks.
It is time to throw caution to the wind! Before anyone says that taking risks is irresponsible, let me remind you that you can be both responsible and a risk-taker all at once. Say yes to the job that you want to try. Go on that trip that your friend invited you on last minute. Try out that new idea you had. Just do it! It’s okay if you mess up (see number 4). Don’t talk yourself out of things you want to do and just pull the trigger. Go for it!
2. Your 20s are for traveling.
Please travel. Travel teaches you so much about yourself, about life, about others, about other cultures, and everything else. Anyone can travel. You can take a day trip to a new city. You can backpack for dirt cheap across South East Asia or you can save all you pennies from your full-time job and plan the ultimate getaway. Whatever is your jam, just go for it! I can promise that you’ll never regret the money spent on travel!
3. Your 20s are for finding love, losing love, and everything in between.
Relationships are a big part of life, but in your 20s relationships often feel tricky and messy. Some of us have been married with a family, since 22, and some of us are 29 and are nowhere close to settling down. Both are okay! Your 20s are the perfect time to grow or tighten your social circle. It is the perfect time to go on dates, and it’s okay if your heart gets broken along the way because it gets you one step closer to your next relationship. It will all teach you more about what you want and deserve.
4. Your 20s are for making mistakes.
It is always okay to make mistakes, but I actually encourage you to make them in your 20s. This is the perfect time to pivot careers because the first one was not right for you (PIVOT). It is okay to mess up in relationships (and apologize later). It is okay to get too drunk one night or to drunk text your ex. It all happens. Learn from it. Leave each year of your 20s with a better understanding of what brings you joy and what lights your soul on fire. Making mistakes is the perfect way to find out!
5. Your 20s are for whatever life has in store for you.
Life is truly one big adventure full of discovery. We have the chance to find out who we want to be and what we want out of life. How exciting is that?! For most people, our 20s are the first chance that we get at really trying to figure that out on our own terms. Embrace it.
