5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Miss Riley Green On Tour With Brad Paisley

One of our favorite rising artists and 2019 Artists to Watch, Riley Green is currently on tour with Chris Lane and Brad Paisley. The summer tour will be wrapping up at the end of the month with two tri-state area shows, August 30th at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre and August 31st at PNC Bank Arts Center.

From scoring his very first number one hit earlier this year with “There Was This Girl” to making waves with his newest release “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” Green is paving his own path towards superstardom. With his debut album Different ‘Round Here slated for release next month, September 20th and a headlining tour of his own beginning this fall, here are five reasons why you should be sure to head into the venue early to catch his opening set.

1. He Has A Song For Every Emotion

Whether you’re in the mood to jam out or in the mood to cry, Green has you covered with everything in between. Songs like “There Was This Girl” and “In Love By Now” will have you up and dancing, while “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” might get you emotional. “Bettin’ Man” and “Same Old Song” will definitely have you swaying back and forth, focusing on Green’s guitar skills and incredible vocals.

2. For The Ladies… He’s Handsome

Not only is Green extremely talented, but he was also blessed with good looks too. For us ladies who love a man with a beard, he is the guy for you.

3. He Flawlessly Blends Traditional and Modern Country Music

Green was raised in Jacksonville, Alabama on old traditional country, bluegrass and southern gospel music. Growing up, he spent his childhood songwriting and performing for his grandfather, who ran Golden Saw Music Hall. Green shared the stage with his grandfather, Bufford Green and other influential men of his time. As he grew older, he put his own mixture of modern rebellion into his original music.

4. You Will See Him Live Before He Releases His Debut Album

The Jacksonville, Alabama native will be releasing his debut album Different ‘Round Here on September 20th. Green co-wrote each of the fourteen tracks with some of Nashville’s greatest songwriters including Jessi Alexander, Erik Dylan, Justin Weaver and more. He also recorded the project alongside CMA and ACM award-winning producer Dann Huff and executive producer Jimmy Harnen. You will get to hear and know most of the songs on the LP before it’s release.

5. You Can Say You Knew Him When

For followers of NYCountry Swag, you knew about the singer-songwriter back when we hosted a Swag Session with him last Fall. We sat down with Green at The Boogie Room in October 2018 while he performed two songs for us and spoke about his experience as a country music artist up until that point. Watch the Swag Session above.

New York City Music Venues

There’s nothing like going to a concert in New York City! We’ve got you covered on all the spots in the Big Apple to catch your favorite artists and live music from all different genres.

Live Music in New York City

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

1. Madison Square Garden
This coveted venue is the holy grail of places to catch a live show. With over 20,000 seats, MSG is the place to go to catch all the A-list artists on their headlining tours. On September 20th, Thomas Rhett is bringing his ‘Very Hot Summer Tour,’ to the Garden, accompanied by Russell Dickerson, Dustin Lynch, and Rhett Atkins. Grab your tickets to the show here.

2. Webster Hall
After a two year hiatus, Webster Hall finally reopened its doors. Renovated and better than ever, Webster Hall hasn’t skipped a beat and is regaining its title as one of the fan’s favorite music venues in NYC. The three-floor venue boasts a grand ballroom that houses 1,500 people, a middle-range room for 600, and an intimate studio floor for 400 concert goers. We can’t wait to Mitchell Tenpenny’s headlining tour with Seaforth at Webster Hall this December!

3. Gramercy Theatre
Owned by Live Nation, the Gramercy Theatre is an approximately 500 capacity concert hall in Manhattan. The venue promotes shows across many genres, including country music. In the next few months, Mason Ramsey, Jimmie Allen with Michael Ray, and HARDY will all play shows there.

4. Mercury Lounge
Mercury Lounge has housed some great country artists, such as Tucker Beathard and Walker Hayes. The 250 capacity room is a place where up and coming artists play show after show. It’s the perfect intimate venue to catch your favorite new artist, while still feeling the same energy you get in the pit at bigger shows.

5. Rockwood Music Hall
We love going to the Rockwood to check out the rising talent in country music! We’ve caught sets from Houston Bernard Band, Jill and Kate, and Kelleigh Bannen. If you want an intimate experience with one of your favorite artists or a chance to fall in love with new talent, head downtown to the charming spot.

6. Bowery Ballroom
Located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Bowery is in a prime location with tons of bars and restaurants to enjoy both before and after a country music show! This venue has a knack for premiering artists just as they are on the cusp of accomplishing something great. We caught Devin Dawson and Ryan Hurd there earlier this year.

7. Hammerstein Ballroom
The Hammerstein Ballroom is one of the few on this list that boasts both general admission and balcony seating. The capacity of the room depends on the configuration of the show, but it can house up to 3,500 concertgoers! Most recently, both Luke Combs and Dan + Shay sold out the ballroom! This fall, Jon Pardi and Tyler Rich will perform there.

8. Radio City Music Hall
Radio City Music Hall is another iconic venue in NYC. This fall, we’ve got some talented female artists headed to perform at the regal theatre. Both Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves are slated to play shows there, with Morris coming to Radio City in September and Musgraves playing two nights in October.

9. Irving Plaza
In the last year, Irving Plaza has housed some great shows by some talented artists in the industry, such as Morgan Wallen, The Cadillac Three, and Cody Johnson. The venue is currently undergoing renovations, and we can’t wait to see how the place gets even better in 2020!

10. Beacon Theatre
If you prefer an intimate, but seated venue than Beacon Theatre is the place to choose! Located uptown, the Beacon Theatre provides all the glitz and glam of a NYC Broadway show, while being a staple place for musical performers, such as Jessie James Decker.

11. SubCulture
SubCulture is a chic new venue in Manhattan, where many different country events are hosted. We attended Thomas Rhett’s Pandora Album Release party there, as well as, saw prolific singer-songwriter Lori McKenna on tour with one of our favorites, Hailey Whitters. The ambiance of the space rivals any intimate settings in the city.

12. PlayStation Theatre
Rounding out our list is the PlayStation Theatre. The venue houses over 2,000 fans and has hosted some fantastic country artists in its many years of business. Chase Rice plays the theatre in October, which is sure to be a great show. Make sure to check out one of your favorite artists there soon, as the venue is closing its doors on December 31st of this year! Thanks for the memories PlayStation!

Houston Bernard Band Impresses Fans at Rockwood Music Hall

Houston Bernard Band

Houston Bernard Band brought a mix of traditional and modern-day country music influences to New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall on Saturday, August 24th. The Oklahoma-born frontman, Houston Bernard, and his band of New England powerhouse musicians have seen rising success over the past few years. First with their 2015 breakout album, Knockin’ Boots, and again with their critically acclaimed 2018 EP, Lucky Man. That’s where the journey at their intimate Rockwood show begins, with the soothing, two-steppin’ sounds of “Lucky Man.” It was the perfect track to kick-off an incredible night of country music, New York-style.

Before launching into the next song, they introduced themselves, and when the frontman inquired as to how the audience was feeling, he responded with, “Honestly, all I can think about right now is this drink.” It was the perfect intro to the next song, the romantic hangover anthem, “You’re All I Need (I Don’t Need Much).” This energetic track was further proof of how transcendent their sound is within the genre. Their wild country roots and hooky pop verses have graced stages alongside icons like Clint Black and Luke Bryan. And when you see Bernard in action, it’s no surprise he can measure up to the greats.

That vibrant energy carries over onto slower tracks like the uplifting ballad “What A Man Should Do.” On this quieter moment, Bernard showcased his slow-as-honey baritone via aching storytelling that reflects on the idea of making sacrifices for the one you love.

Then came the first cover of the night, a rock-fueled version of Bruce Springsteen’s ’80s classic, “Dancing In The Dark.” Those that hadn’t already hit the dance floor by this point made their way to it, entranced by the rocking beat and country flavor.

Before introducing his new single, “Never Grow Old,” Bernard treated the crowd to a story about his time living in New York. He spoke about how the city had always allowed him to follow his heart and encouraged the crowd to “keep following your dreams no matter how old you might be. That’s basically what this song is about.” The inspiring single encourages you to grab hold of your dreams, and shake your booty, all at the same time.

Houston Bernard Band

Next up the band launched into the sugary sweet, “Home Is In Your Arms,” showcasing their softer side effortlessly. Then came the cheeky fan-favorite, “We Made Out,” with its earworm chorus and danceable melody. Another fantastic cover arrived in the form of Chase Bryant’s “Take It On Back.” Not surprisingly, it kept the dance floor full right on through to the end.

Bernard paused between songs to share the chaos of their morning. The band had experienced not one, but two car accidents, on the way to the show that day. Of the second, Bernard said, “The second one I watched happen as I was having a cocktail across the street. When does that ever happen?” The New Yorkers could sympathize, having experienced the insanity of cab drivers daily. But needless to say, they understood his need for a little whiskey and relaxation.

After a bit of real-life storytelling, a rambling guitar kicked off the summer-love inspired song, “Wait For It.” Whether with a kiss from the one you love or a glass of whiskey, this will remind you of the anticipation you get right before you decide to leave your worries behind for a moment.

The night came to an undeniably fun end with their 2015 single, “Knockin’ Boots.” The feel-good country song was the perfect nightcap to an evening full of whiskey, romance, and warnings about terrible drivers.

NYCS Swag Spotlight: MAMADEAR

MAMADEAR

This week our Swag Spotlight is the dynamic trio MAMADEAR featuring Kelly Bradway, Dan Wilson, and Parker Bradway. Three good friends who all happened to move to Nashville as aspiring musicians doing their own thing, got together on Kelly’s front porch to write songs. When the songwriting wasn’t clicking, the threesome decided to sing a country classic and one of their favorites, “Fishin’ In the Dark.” It was then they all realized the undeniable chemistry of their voices. Kelly said, “A magical crush feeling in a music sense” came over them as their voices came together, so they decided to keep doing it.

The talented group stems from all over the map. Dan Wilson, a songwriter from South Carolina moved to Nashville to pursue his dream of making music. Parker Bradway is from Atlanta, Georiga, and Kelly Bradway is from the Washington D.C. area. Wilson said, “We weren’t put together, a lot of times bands are put together by people and it was not on our radar to start this band at all, it just kind of happened.” Although the three of them had one essential connection, they all met through well-known songwriter Tom Douglas, who has written hits such as Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me.” Seven years later, MAMADEAR has perfected harmonies and created music fans want more and more of.

MAMADEAR’s major influences in music stem from the albums of various harmony bands. They love listening and learning from artists such as The Eagles, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Alabama, and the Dixie Chicks. Not to mention, current country groups Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum inspire their music and harmonies as well.  “We spend a lot of time with the three of us practicing our harmonies and trying to get them super tight, even down to where we breathe making sure we are in sync with each other,” she explains.  “We love the harmonies, and that seems to be what really connects with people, so we try to build on that as much as we can.”

Interestingly enough, MAMADEAR just returned from playing a summer residency in the French Riveria opening up for artists such as John Legend and Sting. A country band from Nashville had the privilege to play at a summer-long festival that took place in a beautiful open-air venue on the Mediterranean. They definitely learned a lot opening up for seasoned artists, and Parker referenced John Legend’s performance saying, “It was pretty surreal sitting side stage watching someone with that much talent – it was so cool because it was just him and a piano and it inspired us to just really focus on our craft and being really good at it, and someone will notice.” Kelly added, “The thing that I loved about him as he came off stage he was still just humming to himself, that is a true musician right there.”

MAMADEAR’s newest single “Lost Cause” was released earlier this month. Kelly described the track as “a really fun, in love” type of song.” Parker who is married to Kelly explained how “Lost Cause” came about, as it was inspired by a drive from Nashville to Atlanta. “Kelly and I are married, and when we were dating, we would take tons of road trips back home to Atlanta.” “We were young and in love and being silly, and that road trip would always take us six or seven hours, and my parents would know what time we’d left, and when we would get to Atlanta and they’re like why are you three and a half hours late?” he laughed. “Kelly and I were just in la-la land, we would just pull over to every country store and every overlook, we were lost and wild.” He continued, “This song is about that – having your parents or the world just roll your eyes at you when you are young and in love, but you don’t really care because that’s all that matters to you in that moment.” Check out the newest single below.

MAMADEAR is now back in the United States and ready to keep things rolling. In addition to the release of “Lost Cause,” fans should be on the lookout for their first music video to their song “Steal Away.” Kelly said they had a ton of fun making the video and it turned out exactly how they had hoped, and the trio is extremely excited to put it out very soon. The rest of the year is going to be busy for MAMADEAR, as their schedule is filled with live shows and new music. They will be opening up for Josh Turner, as well as their own headlining shows in the Southeast. MAMADEAR’s plan is to keep releasing new content, and in the words of the band, they are “excited about what the fall holds.”

To keep up with MAMADEAR follow them on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Miranda Lambert & Maren Morris Are Just “Way Too Pretty For Prison”

Maren Morris Miranda Lambert Way Too Pretty For Prison

For fans of prison shows like Orange Is The New Black or Wentworth, you are well aware that life behind bars for women is anything but glamorous. Miranda Lambert teamed up with Maren Morris on her latest release, “Way Too Pretty For Prison” highlighting all of the things they would have to do without, should their revenge plot against a cheater came to fruition. The latest track from her forthcoming album, Wildcard due out November 1st was written with The Love Junkies (Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey, and our Swag Spotlight last week, Lori McKenna).

Singing about avoiding lockup and revenge killing is not a new notion for female country artists, Brandy Clark sang “Is I hate stripes and orange ain’t my color / And if I squeeze that trigger tonight / I’ll be wearin’ one or the other / There’s no crime of passion worth a crime of fashion / The only thing savin’ your life / Is that I don’t look good in orange and I hate stripes” and in the Dixie Chicks classic “Goodbye Earl” they rid the world of a man by feeding him poisoned black-eyed peas. Lambert and Morris chime in here with an updated version for 2019, by exhibiting the lack of eyelash extensions, Chardonnay, and essential body waxing while incarcerated.

“The bars there ain’t got boys to buy us drinks / We stick out like two bottle blonde / I must admit it doesn’t sound fun for 15 girls to have to share one sink /  He cheated, he’s a villain and you know I’d help ya kill him but / We’re way too pretty for prison / Hard time ain’t our kind of living and I don’t wanna talk about the way those jumpsuits wash us out /We’re way too pretty for prison.”

“Karen Fairchild and I were having a wine night to talk about The Bandwagon Tour, and I always tell my friends, ‘Don’t leave if you’ve been drinking, because you’re way too pretty for prison,’ ” said Lambert in a recent press release. “She got a ride home at the end of the night, and the next day I had a write with The Love Junkies (Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna, Liz Rose). I was telling them about our night, and that conversation and they said, ‘Well that’s what we’re writing today.’ I’m so glad Maren joined me on singing this song. She sang her ass off and it was so fun to have her in the studio.”

Last month, Lambert released not one but two tracks in anticipation of her new project, her latest radio single “All Comes Out In The Wash” and “Locomotive” which fans have heard, and loved, in her recent live sets.

To keep up with Miranda Lambert, follow her on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook.

NYCS First Impression: Dylan Schneider ‘Whole Town Talk’ EP

Whole Town Talk Dylan Schneider

19-year-old Interscope Records singer-songwriter Dylan Schneider has partnered with Round Here Records to release his fourth EP titled Whole Town Talk last Friday. The EP contains four songs all co-written by Schneider, including “How to Country”, “Hometown Heartless”, “Bad Thing About a Backroad” and the title track “Whole Town Talk”.

The first two songs, “Whole Town Talk” and “How to Country” are great party/tailgate songs. The title track written by Schneider with Corey Crowder and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line is about an epic party thrown in his home town that got everyone talking about it.  In “How to Country”, Schneider sings about the things he does and the way he lives his life, reminding everyone that “Nobody gotta teach me how to country”.

The next two songs, “Hometown Heartless” and “Bad Thing About a Backroad”, are more vulnerable, talking about lost love. In the former, he sings “I know they said home is where the heart is, but you left this hometown heartless”, proving that his smalltown is not the same without the girl he loved who moved away, while the latter twists a played out narrative about backroads and country living turning depressing after a breakup.

The Terre Haute, Indiana native’s favorite genres growing were pop and hip-hop but discovered his love for country music around the age of 13. His biggest country music influence was Brett Eldredge which began when he saw him live at a show in Paris, Illinois, Eldredge’s hometown. The following year at Eldredge’s show in Terre Haute, he invited Schneider on stage to sing with him. Since then, Schneider has released four EPs before his 20th birthday.

“We are so excited to get to join team Dylan to help encourage, support, and create opportunities for this amazingly talented artist and writer,” shares Hubbard and Kelley in a recent press release. “We’ve loved Dylan since the day we met three or four years ago and are so thankful to have him in our family and on our roster. Timing is everything— and for Dylan, the time is now.”

“I’ve looked up to BK and Tyler for a long time now, and Interscope has been an amazing label home,” added Schneider. “To have two monsters in the music industry like FGL and Interscope joining forces on my behalf is a dream come true. Truly humbling. This new EP has been a long time coming, but I promise it’s worth the wait. This is hands down the best music I have ever written and recorded – can’t wait to share it with the world.”  Schneider will join FGL on the remaining dates of the Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour. For tour dates and more information head to https://www.dylanschneidermusic.com/

Keep up with Schneider on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Hambrick is leading the pack with his fresh and enticing sound. The infectious and catchy track is the perfect love song for contemporary country music fans to jam out to. His unique artistry shines through the clever lyrical licks and rhythmic delivery. It’s clear that Hambrick was after a fun and quirky song with his most recent release.

Penned by the singer with songwriters, Joe Ginsberg and Kelly Archer, Hambrick shares the experience behind the song in a recent press release, “What’s really great about “Forever Ain’t Long Enough” is that at its core, it’s just a feel-good, fun, love song. When Kelly, Joe, and I got in the room to write we came up with something to make people dance and smile- and it has a little attitude which I love. Cole Swindell Gives Us More Music With “Down To Earth”

Cole Swindell Down To Earth

Country music entertainer Cole Swindell is a true artist and songwriter. He loves giving fans as much music as he possibly can, which is exactly what he has been doing! As we gear up for the fifth installment of his Down Home Sessions EP to be released, Swindell is giving us sneak peeks at some of the songs on the upcoming record. So far, the singer-songwriter has released both “Drinkin’ Hours” and “All Nighter.” Today, Swindell premiered his newest song entitled “Down To Earth.”

Swindell experiments with a new sound and vibe in the swoon-worthy love song, comparing his love interest to the stars, and expressing feelings of being high on love. He describes the type of love as unparalleled and otherworldly singing, “You must be from another planet” and exclaiming, “I ain’t ever coming back down to earth.” The singer-songwriter’s vocals shine on this song, as he sings the lyrics that everyone feels when they meet that special someone and have that special kind of love.

We’re excited to see what else the singer has up his sleeves on the upcoming EP since each song so far has showcased a different side to his charming personality.

We last caught Swindell’s live set when he opened up for Luke Bryan on his ‘Sunset Repeat’ Tour for a double feature (Saturday and Sunday) at Long Island’s Northwell Health Jones Beach Theater. Check out the full lyrics for “Down To Earth” below.

You tell me get my head out the clouds
But baby I ain’t doing it
I thought I had it all figured out
But now you got me losing it

I can’t concentrate on my work with you right there
In my shirt, it’s crazy where you’ve taken me

I ain’t never seen the stars this close
I ain’t never been up this high
Everything I used to know
I’m about to have to tell it all goodbye
You must be from another planet
Yeah I’ve been wondering where you were
Baby you took me up to heaven
And I ain’t ever coming back down to earth
Down to earth, yeah

Taking off like a rocket
Kinda wish I had a ring in my pocket right now
I take it out, get down
On one knee in the clouds

I ain’t ever seen the stars this close
I ain’t ever been up this high
Everything I used to know
I’m about to have to tell it all goodbye
You must be from another planet
Yeah I’ve been wondering where you were
Baby you took me up to heaven
And I ain’t ever coming back down to earth
Down to earth

It’s a small world
After all girl
I used to be down there praying
And now I’m up here and I’m staying, ’cause

I ain’t ever seen the stars this close
I ain’t ever been up this high
Everything I used to know
I’m about to have to tell it all goodbye
You must be from another planet
Yeah I’ve been wondering where you were
Baby you took me up to heaven
And I ain’t ever coming back down to earth
Down to earth
No I ain’t ever coming back
Down to earth

Canaan Smith Releases An Ode to “Country Boy Things”

Canaan Smith Country Boy Things

For singer-songwriter Canaan Smith, it’s the perfect time to celebrate being a country boy. On his new song “Country Boy Things,” released today, August 23, he’s doing just that, with an up-tempo ode to all of the things that makes country boys special.

Just last week, Smith released the rollicking summer anthem, “Beer Drinking Weather,” and announced that he had signed to Florida Georgia Line’s Round Here Records as their flagship artist. “Country Boy Things” follows in a similar vein to “Beer Drinking Weather” with its anthemic party vibe. And we’d argue that it’s only a matter of time until Smith is selling merch that praises beer drinking weather and proclaims that “Country boys do country boy things.”

Here, the “Love You Like That” singer revels in everything that makes country boys different than other boys. “We get too drunk / Blame it on Hank / Hit the mud every time it rains / ‘Cause country boys do country boy things,” He sings. “Big trucks, dog in the back / Workboots, camo hat / If that’s you / You know what I mean / Country boys do country boy things.”

Smith co-wrote the track with Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley, Jaren Johnston of The Cadillac Three and Corey Crowder, and he couldn’t be happier with the final result. “This song reminds me of moving to Nashville – when those four-on-the-floor songs were making a comeback,” He said in a recent press release. “I’m proud of the way the band came together and made this one burn. Banjo, baby!”

In case you were wondering, here are a few other things that the song highlights: take the long way home from work because some raindrops hit the dirt, start fires with gasoline, mean what they say and say what they mean, and ask her daddy before they buy that ring.
