[Watch] Chase Rice’s Cover of the Chris LeDoux Classic “This Cowboy’s Hat”

Tar Heel native and decorated country singer, Chase Rice continues to surprise fans after the recent release of Lambs & Lions (Worldwide Deluxe). The album featured reimagined fan favorites as well as two brand-new songs, including his newest release “This Cowboy’s Hat.” Rice had been teasing little clips on social media stories in the week leading up to the release of the Chris LeDoux classic with the rodeo champion’s son Ned.

In a recent interview with Cowboys & Indians, Rice shared, “That was my childhood… Garth Brooks and Chris LeDoux. And for me to be able to record that song with his son and with one of the guys from Western Underground playing on the song… that’s insane. If I was going to do it, I wasn’t going to screw it up. We had to do it right and I think we nailed it.” Not only did they nail the vocals, but the video as well.

The music video hits close to home as it highlights rodeo grounds and old video footage, something the LeDoux family is very familiar with. Directed by Cody Cannon, the video includes clips of Rice and Ned LeDoux in the recording studio singing their version of the song as well as scenes from Colorado’s Greeley Stampede where they performed it live. Rice explained, “We kind of wanted to give a little tip of the hat to his dad and how he did it originally, with a live music video… We actually added in some of the original video as well.” The video closes with footage of Chris LeDoux, as well as a tribute to Rice‘s father who cultivated his love for both rodeo and country music.

While continuing to amaze fans, Rice is also in the midst of a huge career moment. “Eyes On You” has become the most-streamed song of Rice‘s career with more than 120 million streams and is now Top 10-and-climbing at country radio.
