Toby Keith Fires Up The Today Show With “That’s Country Bro”
This morning, Toby Keith hit the stage at The Today Show’s Citi Concert Series for a live performance of his new single, “That’s Country Bro.” Live from Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, the broadcast came on the heels of an incredible Independence Day celebration.
Keith’s music is frequently the soundtrack at backyard barbeques and 4th of July pool parties where country music reigns supreme. So, it’s no surprise that The Today Show would pick him to kick off the long weekend.
With a 25 year career that spans 19 records and over 40 million albums sold, Keith remains one of the most successful male artists in country music.
The superstar pulled out all the stops for this televised appearance. He showcased his proud patriotism and celebrated the troops by surprising a military mom with a tear-jerking video from her son overseas, then he went into the audience to thank the family for their service.
The touching moment was just another way for the singer-songwriter to give back. Since 2003, he has been working with the USO touring military bases abroad in support of the troops and their families. During the broadcast, they chat about his eleven USO Tours which have spanned over eighteen countries where he has played for over 50 thousand troops. In fact, his loyal patriotism and support of our troops are often featured prominently in his music.
He kicked off the morning with a performance of his newest single, “That’s Country Bro,” a nostalgic lesson in old school country music. It’s an ode to the artists that came before him, including mentions of Patsy Cline, Roy Acuff, and Johnny Cash. In quintessential Toby Keith style, the single features his signature raging guitars, down-home southern drawl, and plenty of fired up attitude.
The lively performance was the perfect start to a weekend where the country artist is taking his show on the road. His “That’s Country Bro” tour hits Hard Rock Live in Atlantic City tonight, July 5th and tomorrow night, July 6th at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island.
