“I’ve been to hell and back but if // It means a life with you well then // I’d do it all again // Cause you’re worth the wait // All of my dark, dim, and lonely days // Every goodbye and heartbreak was pointing me home // I was just holding on // Praying you’d be out there // Holding strong // Took me forever to find you // But finally forever’s just two words away // Baby, you’re worth the wait”

Crandall will celebrate the release of the new song with a performance at the iconic Grand Ole Opry today, February 9th. Make sure to add the song to your music library!

Spencer Crandall ‘Western’ – Album Review

Spencer Crandall’s new album, Western is out now, October 21st on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

For independent artist, Spencer Crandall, his fourth studio album, Western, is his most ambitious project yet. On the twenty track collection, he explores his vulnerable side, dividing the album into six chapters: Scorpion, Mustang, Revolver, Pickaxe, Desert and Gold.

“I strive to create songs and tell stories that impact people’s lives in a meaningful way, and to say I’ve put my entire heart into this album would be an understatement,” He reveals in a recent press release. “My fans can expect the most vulnerable, energetic and authentic version of myself that I have ever put out, and I’m so honored that I get to tell these stories and share them with the world.”

Released today, October 21, the autobiographical journey follows Crandall through pain and triumph, themes including love lost, therapy, addiction, and feeling a sense of accomplishment. Throughout the collection, listeners are taken on a unique journey, as Crandall explores topics often taboo in country music.

There’s the deeply-personal “Enough,” which finds the singer-songwriter endlessly vulnerable as he admits to seeking self-acceptance in social media likes, video views, and money, finally settling into his skin as he realizes his own self-worth. “The smiles in all the photos that I’m taking, reflect the picture-perfect life that I’ve been faking, He admits. If the streams and shows and follows all dried up, I’m still enough.”

The album opens with the smoky intro track, “There is a Fire,” which immediately leads into “K(no)w Better” and “Get Away,” part of the album’s Scorpion chapter. Here he tackles his vices, admitting that he “knows better, but he’s no better.” Meanwhile, “Get Away From Me” has him dealing with all of the insecurities and vices that he desperately wants to push away, but instead chooses to stay busy to get them to go away.

Likewise, the reflective “7 and 70” has him grappling with being a people pleaser who fails to put himself first, as he realizes that the only person he has to impress is himself at different points in life. “If I could talk to a younger me, I’d want to be the man that he wants to be // I’d want to tell him he got more// Than everything he prayed for // And if I walked with the man that I’ll become // I want him to be proud of all we done // There are only two opinions that matter to me // And that’s me at 7 and 70.”

Much of the album has Crandall dealing with a broken heart, love lost, and an on-again, off-again fling. This happens on songs like “What Do We Do Now?”, “Friends,” “Future in the Past,” No New Memories,” and “Red Flags.”

On “What Do We Do Now?,” he finds himself wondering about the logistics of a breakup and what to do next. It’s utterly relatable yet often not touched on in songs. “If we stay friends, I can’t pretend that I’m over you,” He admits. “But I can’t stand the thought of moving on without you in my life.” Meanwhile “Friends” finds him musing that he and an ex should’ve never crossed the line to being more than just friends since things didn’t quite work out.

On the heartbreaking “Future in the Past,” he deals with the loss of things that never happened, like wedding gifts and baby names, while “No New Memories” has him moving on from a failed relationship, despite missing out on the possibility of new moments. “What’s the point of starting over if there’s no new memories to make?” Likewise, “Girls Like You” is about a girl he met at a bar, who has moved on when he hasn’t. “What was I thinking when I said we needed a break? Did I really expect any guy in the city to wait?

On “To Be Continued,” he finds himself and the ex in an on-and-off situation that they both know will result in a late-night drunk dial. Meanwhile, “Red Flags” boasts a clever lyric about a girl who has shown her true side. “I took off my rose-colored glasses,” He sings. “I see your red flags.”

It’s not all sadness on Western, however, as Crandall dreams of a soulmate on “Made,” revealing that true love is worth fighting for. He also continues his introspection on “Side of the Stage,” which finds him longing for a hugely successful career, but also finds him searching for someone to share it with as he wonders “What’s it worth at the end of the day if there ain’t nobody at the side of the stage?” He’s vulnerable here as he admits that he gets so lost in chasing the dream that he fails to be a good son, sibling, and friend.

One of the album’s clear highlights is the driving and catchy “Didn’t Do,” an ode to seizing the day and not playing things too safe.

“I wanna give my heart away like it ain’t gonna break // Let someone in even if it ends // Rather end up penniless, chasing my bucket list // ‘Cause overtime’s never time well spent // I’ll take the pounding headache, hangover // Over missing out on late nights // ‘Cause the nights I remember, end with a sunrise // Took me wondering what if to know it’s true // Rather regret what I did than what I didn’t do”

While Crandall co-wrote 18 of the album’s 20 tracks, the two he didn’t write are surprising cover choices: Justin Bieber and Shania Twain. His cover of Bieber’s “Anyone” is sure to be a highlight of any live show, while his take on Twain’s “You’re Still the One” is a celebration of his parents’ long marriage.

On Western, Spencer Crandall takes listeners on a unique musical journey that’s sure to endear him to his ever-growing fanbase while also winning over tons of new listeners.

Spencer Crandall Releases Brand New Song “What Do We Do Now”

Spencer Crandall’s new song “What Do We Do Now” is officially out now, May 13th, on all streaming platforms.  Take a look below as we dig into the track.

Country singer-songwriter, Spencer Crandall is ready to take the country world by storm. Today, the singer releases a song that we can all relate to, called “What Do We Do Now”.

Written by Crandall with Joe Tongue, and Scott Porter, the song personifies how it feels to live life again after a break-up. It begs the question, how do we separate our lives from our ex? When we are in a relationship, our lives are so tightly woven and entangled, so part of a break-up is learning how to pick it back apart. Crandall’s new song “What Do We Do Now” shares the feelings perfectly.

“What do we do now? // Now that we know we can’t work this out // Can we go from needing love back to friends or is this I guess I’ll see you around / what are we // what are we // what do we do now? // If I see you out sometime // can I come say hi // or do I walk by // Can I send a birthday text?”

Crandall is a rising artist you are going to want to keep on your radar. He is going to continue to have bigger and bigger songs, as his career progresses. “What Do We Do Now” is just the beginning.

Spencer Crandall is an artist to look out for. Get to know the singer-songwriter in our spotlight interview here. On the heels of the release of his EP Lost In The Wild, Crandall premieres his brand new song “Made,” out now.

The romantic track flips a traditional love song on its head. Instead of focusing on the fantasy that fairytales tell us, Crandall brings some realism to love and partnership. The singer-songwriter hones the message that your soulmate is something you create, rather than something you find. “Made” marks the first release off of Crandall’s upcoming 2022 project.

“Made // Yeah, we choose each other every day // Even when we bend we know we won’t break // We  just bounce back better // Cause soulmates aren’t found // they’re forged in the same fire // Work at it even when we get tired // Making ups out of downs, doing all that it takes // Cause soulmates aren’t found, they’re made”

Spencer Crandall: Lost In The Wild – EP Review | Country Swag

Spencer Crandall’s newest project, Lost In The Wild EP is available now, May 28th, on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

We recently got to chat with rising singer-songwriter Spencer Crandall all about his journey in our Swag Spotlight feature. Crandall is a uniquely passionate artist in the industry. Today, he dropped his newest project, Lost In The Wild EP.

The collection was inspired by Crandall’s last album Wilderness. He decided to remix three of the songs from his last project in a new and fresh way. Additionally, the singer included two brand new songs suggesting that these songs are what was “lost in the wild.”

The record kicks off with arguably the most profound song on the project, “My Person” (Wedding Version). The original of this song catapulted Crandall’s notoriety, allowing him to create even more as an independent artist.

Firstly, “My Person has always been the song that people gravitate towards. It is something I don’t think really has been said, and people love to say it to other people that they love,” shares Crandall in our exclusive interview. The new version of the song is a piano-driven, slowed-down rendition of the hit. He gave the people what they wanted on this track.

Crandall also stripped down his song ‘Things I Can’t Say.” The track is a cheeky love song that we all will get butterflies listening to. With lyrics like “I love you is on the tip of my tongue” and “I want you to want me to be the one,” it’s hard not to smile along to the song. Julia Cole lends her voice to the second verse and chorus, adding an extra element to the already fun-loving song.

Next up, the project transitions into the two brand new songs off the record. The first, “Apartments in LA”, is one of our personal favorites. Inspired by real-life events, the song conveys all the feelings one feels after a break-up in a new and innovative way. Crandall sings about it being too hard to live in Nashville after a break-up. During our interview, the singer even shared that he really did look on Zillow for apartments in LA, during this time in his life.

“So I’m looking at apartments in LA // Anything to get out of this place // Cause there are too many years, memories here that I just can’t erase”

Additionally, the other song that was ‘lost in the wild’ is a love song called “Nothing To Do With You.” This song proves that Crandall knows romance. The clever wordplay is enough to make every music lover swoon. The artist sings about wanting to spend a whole day doing nothing with his love. It reminds us all of the importance of slowing down and just existing, rather than participating in the everyday rat race.

“All I need is here and now // I want nothing to do with you // I want to waste Saturday in the living room”

Finally, the project ends with “Delete All” (The Nate Dodge Remix). Clearly influenced by his brother’s love of EDM music, the last song is unexpected but enticing. The new version has a vibe that is fresh, and hard not to love. The song transformed into a killer party song, proving that Crandall is a jack of all trades.

It is hard not to love the singer after listening to this project. Spencer Crandall’s Lost In The Wild EP is the real deal. The singer-songwriter is clearly in the right industry. We cannot wait to see his career blossom, as he garners more and more fans!

NYCS Picks:

  1. “My Person” (Wedding Version)

Who Is Spencer Crandall? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Spencer Crandall? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

Spencer-crandall-music

Spencer Crandall

The Beginning:

Throughout our interview with singer-songwriter, Spencer Crandall, we got a chance to learn all about his path to music. Growing up in Denver, Colorado,  Crandall identified more as a music fan than a musician himself. “I loved music growing up. I grew up in a huge music family, where my parents were fanatical country music fans,” he shared with us. As a child, he remembers being a sports kid and a class clown. However, the singer always loved and appreciated a wide variety of music.

“To and from every camping trip, sports practice, vacation, it was music all the time,” he begins. Later, adding, “We talked about music all the time.” Crandall credits his parents for his love of country music, specifically 90s country, but it was his brother who introduced him to EDM artists and rappers like Eminem. “I was getting all these kind of mixed messages [about music]. So I ‘Frakensteined’ them together to have this sense of what I thought was cool.” The artist also shared loving pop-punk bands, old-school Taylor Swift, and John Mayer growing up.

Crandall has kept that eclectic taste in music, even until now. “I’m more inspired by people making music than others.” The singer named incredible artists like JP Saxe, Sam Hunt, The Band Camino, Keith Urban, and Drake, as some of his current favorites.

“I really love great songwriting. For me, it’s always been about the song. So, you can find an amazing song in any genre, because it’s whoever is being authentic and who is ever really telling their truth that’s what I’ve always been really inspired by.”

The Turning Point:

Still, despite loving a wide variety of music, Crandall had yet to shed his identity as a football player. He graduated high school with a football scholarship but ended up sidelined with multiple shoulder injuries. “I don’t know what to do. I don’t know who I am,” he remembered feeling. That is when the singer picked up the guitar he had learned how to play a year earlier,

“I never would have thought that this would turn into what I do for a living and what I love doing,” the singer shared while reminiscing about this shift in his life.

The moment he picked the guitar back up and started singing again, it was clear that he had a talent. Slowly, but surely the singer started putting clips up on YouTube and developing an organic fan base. Finally, in 2016, Crandall made the move to Nashville. He has been working as an independent singer-songwriter ever since.

Today:

Now, Crandall is fully engulfed in the country music industry. Last year, he released his record Wilderness, which was the culmination of four creative projects. The record featured a song called “My Person” that has quickly become one of the most romantic and real songs of our generation.

“My Person has always been the song that people gravitate towards. It is something I don’t think really has been said, and people love to say it to other people that they love,” shares Crandall. Fans have loved the song, so much that they inspired Crandall to release a wedding version of the song, which was recently released.

The new rendition of “My Person” will appear as one of the few other re-imagined songs on Crandall’s upcoming EP, Lost In the Wild, due out this Friday, May 28th. The record also includes two brand new songs. “So there was a couple of songs that didn’t quite fit the formula [of the last album] that I really loved,” shared the singer. “When we started to talk about the next project, I was like what if what is lost in the wild was these songs.” An obvious spark of genius, Crandall included both a break-up song, “Apartments in LA” and a love song, “Nothing To Do With You” on the upcoming EP.

Besides the EP, Crandall has so many new projects coming down the pipeline. A YouTube series about the singer’s life called ‘Road to the Stadium’ just launched. The singer also promises that he will be back out on the road playing shows as soon as possible, and we are sure that even more Spencer Crandall music will be coming sooner rather than later!
