Ray Fulcher: ‘Larkin Hill Mixes’ – EP Review

Ray Fulcher’s brand new EP Larkin Hill Mixes is out now, September 17th on all streaming platforms. Check out our full review and listen to the brand new music below.

Ray Fulcher is a name you should take note of! Fulcher is the man behind many hit songs, including many tunes for Luke Combs. Throughout the last couple of years, Fulcher has been establishing himself as an artist in his own right. Back in June, he released a three-song bundle project. Today, he is re-releasing those three songs, as well as, two new tunes in a brand new EP he titled Larkin Hill Mixes.

Keeping with his traditional take on country music, each of the five songs are ones that scream nostalgia. Beginning with the new song, “Compliment,” Fulcher unapologetically stays firm in who he is and the way he was raised. The fun and cheeky song is essentially all about laughing at your haters and just being you. Plus, it is fun and perfect for a live show!

Similarly, “Girl in It” is primed for success on the stage! The song has become a fan-favorite, and for good reason. Fulcher sings about a guy always having a girl on his mind on the new single. Specifically, it seems that a girl is the reason for almost everything in a man’s life.

“They’re why they make porch swings and half-carat rings // Carolina sunsets and California Kings // If your heart’s on fire // If everything’s spinning // If you’re going out of your mind // I bet there’s a girl in it”

Next up, “Way Out” takes us back to growing up. With clear imagery of the streets we grew up on and the people that made us. The song fits in perfectly with Fulcher’s catalog of music. The singer-songwriter has us all yearning for the good old days on this perfectly executed song.

“Bucket List Beers” is the final previously released song on the EP. It is all about celebrating life’s little moments. Fulcher reminds us that there has truly been a beer for everything, cleverly marking our lives through the years. This is a true-blue country song if there ever was one!

“That’s one of those // That you’ll never forget // That’s one of those // You’ll be glad that you did // One of them once-in-a-lifetime // Drink-em-while-you-can-kind // Six-pack souvenirs // Yeah, so raise ‘em up high // That’s some of my // Bucket list beers”

Finally, the record ends with the second brand new song, “Damn If It Didn’t Hurt.” Continuing to keep us on nostalgia lane, Fulcher shares all the experiences that stung a bit and a hurt a little. Ultimately, the singer wisely shares that things are not worth it if it didn’t hurt a little bit. Anything that is worth having is worth taking the risk.

In just five songs, Fulcher will make you a believer in his talent. Larkin Hill Mixes is a perfect reintroduction to the singer-songwriter’s one-of-a-kind talent and heart.

Ray Fulcher Releases New Three-Song Bundle Project

Ray Fulcher released three brand new songs, “Girl In It,” “Way Out” and “Bucket List Beers”, on all streaming platforms today, June 25th. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Ray Fulcher is an artist that is the songwriter behind some of your favorite tunes. He has written numerous hits for superstar Luke Combs including “When It Rains It Pours” and “Does To Me”. Throughout the last year, Fulcher has dedicated his time to showcasing his own artistry. Today he releases three brand new songs including his single, “Girl In It” along with “Way Out” and “Bucket List Beers.”

We are loving the effortlessness behind the singer’s voice. With every release, Fulcher seems more and more at home as an artist. Keeping with his traditional take on country music, each of the three songs are ones that scream nostalgia.

Finally wrapping up the bundle of new music, “Bucket List Beers” is all about celebrating life’s little moments.

If the new songs are not enough excitement for Fulcher fans, the singer will also be making his Opry debut tonight, June 25th. “I grew up on old country and watching YouTube videos of the Opry, dreaming of one day standing there in the circle,” shared the singer in a recent press release. “To have it actually happening is both surreal and the highest honor.”

Singer- Songwriter Ray Fulcher” Releases “I Got It All”

Ray Fulcher’s new song, “I Got It All” is available now, October 30th on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Ray Fulcher

Ray Fulcher is a name you’re going to want to remember if you don’t already know it. The singer-songwriter has co-written numerous hits for superstar, Luke Combs, including “This One’s For You” and “Does To Me.” Despite the undeniable success, Fulcher’s goal has always been to be an artist in his own right. He continues to release great music, including his newest song “I Got It All.”

Keeping with his traditional take on country music, the singer delivers a clever song that is a complete jam. “I Got It All” is one of those songs that you think is about one thing, but when the chorus hits, you quickly realize it was about the exact opposite. In the first verse, Fulcher sings about all of the things in his life that are great, including a “membership card to the bar,” but he soon reveals that he didn’t get what he always wanted, love.

“The only thing I wanted all along / I got it all / Wrong / I got it all / Wrong,” he sings in the crucial moment. Despite the lyrical nature of the song, fans will quickly fall line love with the catchy and exciting feel of the new jam.

Luke Combs Breaks His Own Record with 9th Consecutive Number 1

Luke Combs Lovin' On You

If there is one thing that country music fans across the genre can agree on, it is Luke Combs. The bonafide superstar can truly do no wrong. With just two albums under his belt, Combs has solidified himself as one of the best in the genre.

Combs continues to break his own records, landing his 9th consecutive number 1 single with “Lovin’ On You” on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. In just 12 weeks, the track made it’s way to the top spot, adding another record to Combs list, becoming the fastest climbing single. This marks the singer-songwriter’s fourth number one track from his newest record What You See Is What You Get. Former hit singles “Beer Never Broke My Heart”, “Even Though I’m Leaving” and “Does To Me” found their way to the top.

“Lovin’ On You” was written by Combs with Ray Fulcher, Thomas Archer and James McNair, and was a fan-favorite almost instantly. Fulcher has had a hand in writing hits for Combs before, including “When It Rains It Pours” and “Even Though I’m Leaving.” Check out some of his own songs and his rendition of Combs 8th number one, “Does To Me”, which he also co-wrote, in our Swag Session below.

We knew Combs was special ever since 2017 when we named him one of our 2017 Artists to Watch, shortly after seeing him perform at his first New York City show ever. Take a look back at the show here.

There’s truly no stopping the hitmaker, who was also recently nominated for CMA Entertainer of the Year just two years after taking home the award for Best New Artist. Additionally, Combs announced he will be releasing a deluxe album, retitled What You See Ain’t Always What You Get this October. As Combs continues to break the mold, we anticipate that there are even bigger things on the horizon for him!

Luke Combs Does To Me

Matt Stell, Chris Bandi & Ray Fulcher Perform in NYC

Ray Fulcher

Having seen Ray Fulcher in this same venue opening for Josh Abbott a few months ago, we were excited to see what he brought this time around. We were instantly reminded again of his Eric Church vibe, both in look and sound. He told a story of going to see Church in 2006 in Athens, Georgia, and knowing it was a moment that changed his life. He knew then and there that he had to write songs that made people feel the way Eric Church made him feel. Fulcher co-wrote “Doe to Me” performed by Eric Church, and played his version of it, hoping to do his legend justice. He told the story of writing his “Somebody Like Me” hit, which resulted from kind of but not really dating someone, then her moving away to Austin, Texas on short notice, realizing he was never really dating her anyway. Fulcher finished with the classic, catchy “When It Rains It Pours” which he wrote for Luke Combs.

Chris Bandi was up next, and he was so excited to play his first show in NYC. His almost raspy voice was incredibly addicting, and with the beard and sound, he was giving us Sam Hunt vibes. A definitely more pop-country vibe than the classic country of Fulcher, he’s got a fun edge to draw some non-traditional country fans. He sang a new song “Free” as well as covers of “Gives You Hell” by The All-American Rejects, and a few more rockin’ country songs he hasn’t released yet.

His brand new EP comes out this summer, but until then he is promoting his current country radio single “Man Enough Now”. Bandi moved to Nashville 7 years ago, with the idea of writing a song that can take you back to a memory in 3 minutes, saying, “Nothing else can do that.”

Matt Stell was ready to rock the night, with his full band jamming as he opened with “Sex, Drugs, and Country Music”. You can hear the country influence, but the crowd definitely felt like they were at a rock concert with his show. He kept thanking everyone in the audience and expressing how happy he was to be playing a show in New York City, and that none of this is possible without his fans. He played a cover of Rhett Akins’ “That Ain’t My Truck” which definitely has an old school country vibe, but contrasted it with his version of Ariana Grande’s “God is A Woman”. Stell played a few new songs, “Chase it Down” and “Love You Too”, that definitely got everyone excited for his new music. A cover of Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire” was in the mix, with another contrasting of John Michael Montgomery’s “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)”, an awesome display of his ability to slide between pop/rock and country so seamlessly. His last song was what he explained changed his life last year, “Prayed For You”, his single that went number one, and expresses his true emotions.

What an awesome night for male country artists in New York City, and the fans were there for it all.

Josh Abbott Band Fans Come Out to Support in NYC

The Gramercy Theatre on a Wednesday night in New York City doesn’t always seem to be the hot spot in town, but on this particular night, it was the place to be. Avid Josh Abbott fans rolled into the intimate venue to sing along to their favorite songs and get their fix.

Josh Abbott Band

Ray Fulcher opened, with some of the songs he wrote with and for Luke Combs. With a cross between an Eric Church and Luke Combs sound, they came out raving right away with the rock-heavy “Looks”, followed by “Song of the Summer”, and Luke Comb’s “Honkytonk Highway”. He co-wrote “When It Rains It Pours” and “Even Though I’m Leaving”, which he struggled to get through due to the emotional nature of the song. The crowd continued to build, gaining energy for the rest of the night.

After realizing someone was sporting a NYCountry Swag Military line hat, feeling at home in a city as big as New York and finding our tribe, we were ready for the main event. All of a sudden the die-hard fans came alive when the band played “My Texas” and “All of A Sudden.” From old to new, the band played all their greatest hits, and the crowd managed to keep up. Dawning his cowboy hat, Josh talked about when they played on Jimmy Kimmel and thanked Scott from Triple 8, who made it all happen. New York is quite a long way from Texas, but he expressed how happy they were to be back, and as long as the fans keep coming, they’ll keep coming back. “Surprise Surprise” off Catching Fire was a hit that has the laid back but upbeat country vibe you want sometimes, with the classic fiddle and banjo sound. “Wasn’t That Drunk” had everyone singing, clearly one of the band’s biggest hits. “She’s Like Texas” slowed it down a bit, another popular one, with the violin creating a smooth relaxing vibe.

Josh Abbott Band

There were dance parties, beers raised, and an overall satisfaction from getting to see such a niche band in the heart of New York City. Their following is only going to grow from here, as the crowd from tonight raves about the great night they had with their fellow country music lovers. For exclusive videos from the show, head to NYCountry Swag on Instagram.
