NYCS First Impression: RaeLynn ‘Baytown’ EP

Move over country boys, let me re-introduce you to a country girl! Rising artist, RaeLynn shines as bright as can be on her brand new EP entitled Baytown, inspired by her Texas hometown. Her country twang is at the forefront of each of the six tracks, but it is her sass, her confidence, her wordplay, and her stunning voice that steals the show. “Keep Up” sets the tone right away for what we can expect from the rest of the record. The hard-hitting, countrified tune is all about RaeLynn playing just as hard as the boys. RaeLynn sings about being “redneck,” being able to build and fix stuff with her hands, and of course, doing all the things the boys can do, but better. This age-old adage is perfectly personified in this sassy and confident jam.

The record progresses into a more mellow vibe with “Still Smokin” and “Fake Girl Town.” The former is a tune about a summer romance that turned into forever. Cleverly weaving literal examples of fire and smoke with the figurative heat and spark of a budding romance, RaeLynn paints the picture of how a relationship turned into a forever kind of thing. The sincere love song is fresh and exciting. “Yeah lemme tell you about a summer fling that turned to a fling that’s gonna last forever.”

The latter of course, “Fake Girl Town” continues to slow things down. The touching ballad sheds a much needed light on the detrimental culture that exists between girls. Unfortunately, society has encouraged women to be vicious and compete with each other rather than support and cheer each other on. The songstress is singing her heart out about wishing more girls could be there for one another but is confident that she will find the real ones among a sea of fakers. “I know they’re out here, somewhere / A two lane girl like me / I know they’re out here, somewhere / Chasing down their dream.”

Keeping the vulnerability going, the previously released, “Me About Me” is a full-fledged confession about the details of a break-up and a one-sided relationship. The heartbreakingly stunning mid-tempo song conveys a type of honesty that we only get from country music. “You would know if you asked me about me / Me about me.”

For fans who prefer the more in your face, fiery side of Raelynn, both “Judgin To Jesus” and the single, “Bra Off” fit the bill. The first is a boot-stomping jam and party song that will fit perfectly into a live show performance. “Bra Off” is a humorous and fierce expression of shedding your skin after a break-up. RaeLynn compares losing a guy to taking her bra off, admitting that she finally feels less suffocated. The female- anthem is just as hilarious, as it is brilliant.

It is safe to say that RaeLynn made her hometown proud with this record. The ‘Baytown’ native has sure evolved into a powerhouse singer-songwriter, and we love her newest project.

Raelynn Confesses Details of a Breakup in “Me About Me”

Two-time ACM New Female Vocalist nominee Raelynn is making 2020 her year. Releasing sassy “Bra Off” and “Keep Up”, the country singer + songwriter has just released her latest single “Me About Me.”

“Me About Me” is the latest look off of the singer-songwriter’s EP Baytown coming out via Round Here Records on August 14th; the label created by Florida Georgia Line. Written by Bob DiPiero and Jeff Garrison and the singer herself, the mid-tempo track talks about a one-sided relationship. The chorus discusses all the little things that the singer’s ex could’ve known about her – but never asked. She sings, “Your first ride was a 1990 Wrangler // Your first kiss was a game of spin-the-bottle // When it comes to you I can answer any question // That’s what happens when you just sit back and listen.”

“We were talking about past relationships, and I told her about a situation with an ex where I knew everything about him, but he never asked me about me,” says RaeLynn said in a press release, “It made me realize that I wasn’t alone, a lot of people have probably had the experience of a relationship being one-sided like that.”

RaeLynn’s forthcoming EP Baytown takes the name of her hometown in Texas. It’s full of sass, grit, and her fiery personality that everyone loves. She co-penned every song on the EP while Corey Crowder produced its entirety. She shared the inspiration behind the aesthetics of the artwork of her upcoming work on her Twitter page, “Behind every queen, there’s a group of creative queens who MAKE IT HAPPEN. I came upon the pic of @AliciaSilv on the cover of @RollingStone when we were working on the mood board for the #BAYTOWN photoshoot. I was instantly obsessed & wanted to create the same vibe with baby blue!”

Maren Morris & RaeLynn Sell Out Two Venues in NYC Area

This past weekend, country songwriter turned superstar artist Maren Morris performed for thousands of fans in the New York City area when her GIRL: The World Tour made stops at Brooklyn Steel and Terminal 5. Morris brought her undeniable charm, wit and epic stage presence to deserving fans who have been following her career for years.

On this leg of the tour, and both evenings the opening slot was taken by RaeLynn.  The sassy singer-songwriter performed songs from her 2017 debut album WildHorse, such as “Love Triangle” as well as her brand new hits “Queens Don’t” and “Tailgate”. RaeLynn is the perfect opening act for Morris’ fan base, she is real, her songs are relatable and she brings a certain sass that country music fans love.

On Saturday night at Terminal 5, Morris welcomed RaeLynn back to the stage to perform “All My Favorite People” the duet on GIRL that usually features Brothers Osborne. RaeLynn was celebrating her birthday, so after they sang together, Morris led the entire crowd in one giant sing-a-long of “Happy Birthday”. The gesture brought RaeLynn to tears and it was definitely a sweet moment between both artists.

Both Friday and Saturday night, Morris put on a memorable show for fans who packed and sold out both venues. Opening with the title track to her latest album and anthemic smash “GIRL”, she weaved songs from her debut album HERO with her new hits and the audience could be heard singing back every word.

Before singing “I Could Use A Love Song”, Morris slowed things down a bit to chat with her sold-out audience. She explained the story of a radio programmer who told her not to pick that as her next single saying “Oh god no – people do not want to hear sad women on the radio,” and I was like ‘F*ck you, sure they do’,” she laughed.  “I was so in shock ’cause I have grown up listening to country music and a good bit of it is sad, and as someone that deals with your everyday anxiety and if I have a low day, if I’m sad I don’t turn the radio on and look for a sad song and think that it’s going to make me more depressed, I listen to a sad song on the radio because it makes me feel like someone else out there is going through the same thing,” the audience cheered. “Which is sort of the point of it all, isn’t it, so I did not heed his professional advice, it was a slow climb and it took 42 weeks up the chart to finally hit but it was such poetic justice because that guy got fired and this was my first number one song.”

Whether she was strutting around with confidence during “Make Out With Me” or “RSVP” or leading the entire crowd in swaying their hands back and forth during “Second Wind”, Morris captivated her audience from the moment she stepped on the stage. She couldn’t end the night without singing the song that truly changed everything for her. “I remember when I wrote this particular song one day, I felt this panic and I felt like, I don’t know if I can give this song away to another artist because it meant so much to me, we don’t get very many of those songs,” she said of “My Church”. I knew that I was on to something, I knew that in my heart, this song would change a lot of things for me and everything starts with one song, a little 3 minute and 30-second song can really turn everything in your life around.” During the entire song, you could barely hear Morris as the crowd sang along, becoming her own personal ‘gospel choir’. Raelynn Blows Hometown Show Away on SIRIUSXM The Highway Tour

RaeLynn recently has teamed with SiriusXM The Highway for a three-show headlining run this fall, alongside newcomer Ross Ellis. Raelynn made her second stop and played at the Cannery Ballroom last night in Nashville, TN in front of family, friends, and a whole room packed of fans.

Ross Ellis started out the night singing his newest hit “Ghost” along with “Love By The Moon” which was cut by Tyler Farr. Growing up in Louisiana, going to the same school and the same fraternity as Tim McGraw, when Ellis came to Nashville his dream cut was McGraw. This past month his dream came true as McGraw cut “Neon Church” which Ellis sang loud and proud last night.

Raelynn took the stage energetic and ready for a show. She played the fan favorites like “Love Triangle”, “Lonely Call”, and “Queens Don’t.” The singer-songwriter also previewed a new song called “Camo.” For her growing up it meant hunting on the weekends but now it has a whole new meaning. Her husband serves in the U.S. Army so now camo means not seeing his face in the morning or even at all.

After taking a little serious note to sing the song dedicated to her husband, Raelynn paused the show to let the fans know what a good “stank” face looked like right before she covered Camila Cabello’s pop hit “Havana.” Whoever had the best dance moves in the crowd got to come up on stage and dance with Rae and the band.  As if the crowd was not already thrilled and dancing, this did the trick. Three lucky girls got up on stage and danced their hearts out. Raelynn brought along a special guest on stage for one song, Hardy. Before Hardy released his debut EP and single “Rednecker”, he was an amazing songwriter. Together they performed his first number one song “Up Down” recorded by Morgan Wallen featuring Florida Georgia Line.

She previewed another new song called “Hometown” about her small hometown in Baytown, Texas. Everyone knows everyone, the love of the mom and pop wing place on the corner, and more. For anyone with a huge love of their hometown, this will be a song for you!

Raelynn ended with her newest hit single “Tailgate,” which has garnered over 4.2 million streams before even being released to country radio. She wrote the song with Canaan Smith, Corey Crowder, and Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard.  Raelynn continues to put out songs redefining the genre and lyrics that will pull at your heart. Her voice live is truly authentic and the energy, sass, and dedication she brings to every show in unparalleled. Next Women of Country Kicks off in NYC with Sara Evans, RaeLynn & Kalie Shorr

Sara Evans joined by RaeLynn and Kalie Shorr took the stage at B.B Kings in Times Square for the kick off night of CMT’s Next Women of Country Tour. The venue was packed, with standing room only crowd members at the bar.

First to take the stage was Kalie Shorr, this being her first tour and her first time performing in New York City, the young punk-country artist opened her set with “Fight Like A Girl”, an anthem which she powerfully performed.  She also sang her latest single “Two Hands” and “Damn Sky” which are both featured on her EP Awake. Covering a kick-butt version of Shania Twain’s “Man I Feel Like A Woman” the girl power night started off with a bang.

Next to take the stage was RaeLynn, the “Wildhorse” singer sang songs off of her debut album including “God Made Girls” and “Young”.  “It’s a dream to be playing in New York tonight at B.B King’s opening for Queen Bee, Sara Evans, I’m just so excited to be on tour with her,” she told the audience. Referencing her time on the reality talent show The Voice and her coach Blake Shelton, the young singer explained that after writing for a few years she loved being able to put honest music out into the world.  She closed her set with a song that she explained “changed her life,” “Love Triangle”.

Finally, Sara Evans took the stage as the headlining act of the night.  Evans was joined by her band which included her brother, Matt, sister, Leslie and oldest son Avery.  The powerhouse vocalist sang songs from her 20-year career including, “Suds in the Bucket”, “Born to Fly” and of course “A Little Bit Stronger”.

She also performed songs from her latest album Words, including “Night Light”, “Long Way Down” and “Marquee Sign”.  The songstress had the entire audience singing along to her hits, entertaining them with her wit and humor in between songs and empowering all of the women in the room.  “We need a lot more women in country music, that’s for sure,” she exclaimed.  “I can’t tell you how honored I am that you are all here on a Monday night.”

Evans didn’t just sing originals but included some incredible cover songs, stylistically changing them to suit her signature sound including Gavin DeGraw’s “Not Over You”, Chicago’s “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” and closed out the night bringing her two opening acts back on stage for “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”.
