Luke Combs Goes Number One with Iconic “Fast Car” Cover

Luke Combs continues to share music with his fans that speak to his upbringing and personal life. Combs’ decision to include a cover of Tracy Chapman’s famed song, “Fast Car” on his album went against the grain, but it clearly worked. As someone who grew up listening to that song, Combs clearly has a special place in his heart for the iconic track. Today country radio rewards the risk he took, and “Fast Car’ marks the entertainer’s 16th number one single.

“Fast Car” is one of those songs that captivates every listener. Combs’ rendition brings a country-flair to the honest and authentic track. Every time you listen to the song, you know how special it is to the singer, who shared his love for the song long before its release.

According to a press release, the singer shared, “[My dad] played me all kinds of music and one of the first songs that I remember hearing, he popped a cassette in, and I loved this whole album,” adding later, ““There was this one song that really stuck out to me. It was called “Fast Car.” That song meant a lot to me since then—for my whole life. I always think about my dad when it comes on and us spending time together.”

“You got a fast car // I got a plan to get us out of here // I been working at the convenience store // Managed to save just a little bit of money // Won’t have to drive too far // Just across the border and into the city // You and I can both get jobs // Finally see what it means to be living”

It is hard to believe that they have not found their way to the top of the country charts, since 2019 with their single, “One Man Band.” They finally landed another number one as they embark on a new era of their music with their song, “Memory Lane.”

Written by band members, Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, and Brad Tursi with Jessie Jo Dillon, “Memory Lane” is one of those songs that will go down as a crowd-favorite for Old Dominion. The song feels nostalgic and homey, just like many of their songs. The track is one of those songs that have all the elements fans have grown to expect and love from the incredible band.

Recently, the singer-songwriter secured his fourth and fifth number ones at country radio with “What My World Spins Around” and “Buy Dirt.” Today, Davis adds to that list with “Next Thing You Know,” marking his sixth number one at country radio.

Davis’ single is country music at its absolute best. “Next Thing You Know” is a song about the journey through love and life. While all of Moroney’s songs truly display her staying power, “Tennessee Orange” was the song that made everyone stop and listen. As a Georgia girl, Moroney would typically never root for the Tennessee Volunteers, but as the song says, [she’s] “wearing Tennessee orange for him.” A love song at heart, the single is all about the things you will do for love.
