Noah Hicks: ‘Tripping Over My Boots’ – EP Review

Noah Hicks’ EP, Tripping Over My Boots, is out now, September 30th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new project below and check out our full review.

For Georgia native Noah Hicks, his new EP, out today, is both an introduction and a way for fans to get to know him even better. “Tripping Over My Boots is a collection of songs that I thought were very me, and that fans would get excited for,” Hicks shares in a statement. “It’s for folks like me, people who grew up how I did, and individuals with the same mindset; making the best of life by living it up and not taking any day for granted.”

On the six-song collection, a follow-up to his I Can Tell You’re Small Town EP, the singer-songwriter co-wrote each track, sharing his roots, his personality, and his hopes and dreams. Recently named Billboard’s “Country Rookie of The Month,” the RED Creative Records artist has been gaining fans and accolades since initially bursting on the scene in 2018.

The EP’s title track is a clear standout, as Hicks approaches a girl he’s interested in. On the twangy mid-tempo, he’s stumbling over himself to impress her, admittedly tripping over his boots. “I wrote this song as the ideal way of how I would like to meet my next girl,” He muses. “I don’t write anything that isn’t true to me in some regard. When I am in writing sessions, and I hear something that I connect with… I get fired up.”

He continues to show his romantic side on “Making Up My Mind,” where he tells listeners about his dream girl. “I’m sure a lot of people can relate to the revolving door of dating with dating apps and all that,” He says. “Honestly, I just got kind of tired of it. This song is basically what I’d love to have in a perfect world.”

“You’re lookin’ like an angel in the mornin’ light // With your halo hair and your kiss me eyes // Ain’t no way that I could say no // When you’re whisperin’, baby, baby don’t go // ‘Tween layin’ right here and lovin’ on you // Slippin’ out the sheets, slippin’ on my boots // I don’t even have to think twice // You’re pretty good at makin’ up my mind”

“Creek Don’t Rise” is an ode to country romance, with a stomping second half that’s perfect for a live show, as Hicks invites a girl to escape a crowded bar in favor of the great outdoors. “That moon will be shining up in the sky,” He sings. “We’ll dance to a little Dixieland delight…Ooh beneath the cottonwood tree, ooh I bet you and me, will be falling in love by the end of the night, Good lord willing and the creek don’t rise.”

Hicks also channels his inner Walker Hayes on “Breaking Up & Getting Drunk,” which finds him moving on from a broken heart with a bottle of something strong. With a catchy whistle and country beats, he muses that “They go together like Coke and Rum, breaking up and getting drunk.”

Lastly, Hicks isn’t afraid to get back to his roots and celebrate his boots on songs like “Different Boots” and “Back Home Buds.” On the latter, he sings an ode to the hometown pals who know him best, and can ground him and bring him back down to Earth. When he’s with them, it’s the same small-town gossip and familiarity he’s always known, while “Different Boots” celebrates how people are all the same, no matter where they may be from. “We may have different boots, but at the end of the day, we’re all the same.”

For a small-town Georgia boy like Noah Hicks, a career in country music once seemed impossible, but it’s tracks like those on Tripping Over My Boots that have endeared him to country music fans. “I never thought being a singer was even possible, I intended to do what everyone else did,” Hicks reveals. “I’ve worked farms, built fences, tended cows, tinted windows, but becoming an artist was always just a dream. Now I’m blessed to call it my job.

Who Is Noah Hicks? The Story Behind His Journey to Country Music

Who is Noah Hicks? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about his journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

The Beginning:

Today we are highlighting a rising artist in country music that feels like an overnight sensation. During our conversation with singer-songwriter Noah Hicks, we learned how humble and genuine he is as a man and as an artist. We chatted about everything from his upbringing to his current songs. Learn more below.

Growing up on a chicken farm in Georgia, Hicks never even dreamed of a music career. “I’ve always played guitar and played in church and stuff like that,” he shared, adding that it was really all just for fun. The singer always thought he would make a living doing blue-collar work, but music was still something he loved from an early age.

Thinking back to middle school, Hicks recalls loving the fresh sound of duo, Florida Georgia Line. “I remember being at high school parties with my brother and seeing the reaction to their uptempo vibe,” he shared. “I became just like in love with the fact that music can make you feel a type of way.”

Hicks also credits artists like Rhett Akins and Jason Aldean as early inspirations. Nowadays, he loves artists and songwriters like HARDY, Ernest, and Luke Combs, among many others. “I’m definitely a fan first,” stated the singer. “Now I’m a fan of songwriters ‘cause the songwriters are just as cool as the artists, if not cooler,” he added.

At seventeen years old with a push from one of his hometown buddies, Hicks started singing and taking his natural talent more seriously. “Ever since then I’ve been chasing this crazy dream and I somehow worked it out.”

The Turning Point:

Although clearly gaining popularity in his home state of Georgia, Hicks really started to gain traction earlier this year when he recently signed with RED Creative Group. Prior to his signing, the singer would travel back and forth from Georgia to Tennessee, eventually making the move to Nashville to pursue his dreams.

“I never thought I’d be in the position I am,” shares Hicks, “It happened a lot faster than I can keep up with.” The singer also credits his quick success to the friends he has made in Nashville. “I fell into a great group of guys who live up here. And it took all of the hard work out of moving to town and meeting people,” adding, “They would just knock out the hard part and say ‘this is my friend Noah Hicks.’”

The singer also recalls the moment he knew that music was his passion. “When I first released my first ever single ‘Raised On The Radio’, we had a big old concert down on the square and all these people showed up. I was like ‘okay, this could be possible.’”

Today:

Now, Hicks has two more songs out under his new partnership, “No More of ‘Em” and “Miss You Back.” The former is a collaboration with one of his heroes, Rhett Akins. “I had these people I wanted to write with and Rhett was one of them […] I saw his name on my calendar and I planned ideas for two weeks and he shot down every one of them,” he laughs reminiscing about what it was like to write with Akins for the first time.

After the song was created, the singer made a comment to his manager about asking Akins to be on the song, and to everyone’s surprise, he agreed. The Georgia native wanted to release a song that was close to his heart and a story that could help fans get to know him and his artistry. “No More of ‘Em” was that song.

On the other hand “Miss You Back” showcases a different side of the singer’s talent. “It was me, Paul [DiGiovanni], Cole Taylor, and Jeremy Stover, during a write, and we wrote six songs in four days.” “We just kept trying to write about me and get really specific about me cause every song that I release, I want there to be some truth behind it.”

As it turns out, the singer was able to tap into a more somber emotion to create the song with his fellow songwriters. “It’s a double lining. Obviously, it’s about a girl, but also when we were writing, we all talked about it being universal, you can miss anyone back.”

The two songs are just the beginning for Hicks. “Writing songs, playing shows, realizing music, that’s what I hope to do in 2021,” he declares. Fans are in for a real treat with this budding star!

Newcomer Noah Hicks Joins Forces with Rhett Akins on “No More of ‘Em”

Noah Hicks joins forces with Rhett Akins on brand new song “No More of ‘Em”. Available now, May 14th, on all streaming platforms, take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new song.

Earlier this week, singer-songwriter Noah Hicks signed an exclusive publishing deal with RED Creative Group, home of artist-songwriters like Travis Denning, Baker Grissom, and Adam Hambrick. To excite fans even more, the country music newcomer joined forces with mainstay, Rhett Akins on his debut single “No More of ‘Em,” out now.

Written by Hicks and Akins with Will Bundy and Jeremy Stover, the brand new song is country music nostalgia at its finest. The Georgia native wanted to release a song that was close to his heart and a story that could help fans get to know him and his artistry.

“Til there ain’t no more of ‘em // No more one light two-lane towns // Til there ain’t no straight pipe Friday night good ol’ boys chasing them girls around // I’m gonna spend my days just thanking the Lord // For every sunset sinking down on a wraparound porch // Til there ain’t no more of ‘em”

For Hicks, these moments serve as some of the best in his life so far. “I woke up this morning still pinching myself,” he shares in his latest instagram post, “5 years I’ve spent chasing this dream and it’s been one hell of a journey.. but this is only the beginning. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in making this song come alive.”

“No More of ‘Em” is the first song in a series of singles that Hicks has coming down the pipeline this year. Only time will tell if the singer will collaborate with more well-known artists or if his next release will be a solo feat. Whatever the case, we’re sure fans are going to flock to him for his passion and talent!
