BREAKING! ACM Awards Ends in TIE – Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood
For the first time in the show’s history, the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards took place tonight (Sept 16.) live from Nashville. The annual show honors the greats of country music and although this year’s special event looked a little different, it certainly did not disappoint.
Originally slated to take place last April in Las Vegas, it was postponed until September, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of having the award show in one location, it aired with epic performances from three different historic iconic Nashville locations: the Grand Ole Opry House, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Bluebird Cafe.
This year a new location also meant a new host. Keith Urban hosted for the first time and did an incredible job in his new role following in Reba McEntire’s footsteps. Urban brought home the biggest award of the show last year, the ACM Entertainer of the Year, and is a 15-time ACM Award winner.
The show included epic performances from the biggest names in country music, including Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett & Jon Pardi, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton featuring Gwen Stefani, Trisha Yearwood, and so many more.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night came with the reveal of the coveted Entertainer of the Year award. Up for the honor were Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Luke Combs, and Thomas Rhett. Resulting in a tie, for the first time ever, Carrie Underwood & Thomas Rhett ultimately took home the award!
