Lauren Alaina Shares Inspiring Story About Her Late Stepfather, Sings “The Other Side”

Lauren Alaina The Other Side

During her set in New York City last month, Lauren Alaina took a break from her hits to tell the sold-out venue about an intimate conversation that her stepfather, Sam, had with their family on the day that he lost his battle with cancer.

Sam told them how he could see heaven, Jesus, and his mom. Alaina sharing this moment with her beloved fans allowed the New York City fans to feel even more connected to the singer-songwriter.

“If you’ve lost someone, this is for you…” she shared before tearfully singing her tribute to Sam, “The Other Side”.

Lauren Alaina Takes NYC on a Journey with her Sold-Out Headlining Tour

It’s been almost a decade since Lauren Alaina auditioned and made it to the finale of the tenth season of American Idol. Her bubbly personality, powerhouse voice, and true southern charm won over the nation and since then she has released two albums, written countless songs and connected with her growing fan base in an authentic way.

For the first time, Alaina has set out on a headlining tour and has sold out the first seven shows, including a show last night at Bowery Ballroom in New York City with direct support, Filmore.

Filmore

Filmore, who hails from Missouri, brought his unique brand of country music to an already packed room playing some of the most recent songs he has released including “London”, “State I’m In”, and “Heart’s Having A Hard Time”. He exuded energy, and an undeniable swagger as he danced around the stage. Several times throughout the night, the singer-songwriter paused to explain how grateful he was to be back in New York, having opened for Dan + Shay and Carrie Underwood back in 2018.

One of the most energetic parts of the night was when he covered The Killers’ smash, “Mr. Brightside” asking the entire audience to jump along with him. We always see an incredible response when artists come up to the Big Apple and choose a cover song outside of the country genre and tonight was no different. He thoughtfully explained the songwriting and stories behind each song throughout his set, definitely garnering a ton of new fans that may not have seen his live show before. He closed the set with “Slower”, his breakout hit from 2018.

Lauren Alaina Tour

The ‘That Girl Was Me Tour’ truly took the fans on a journey of Lauren Alaina’s entire career and with the help of a giant screen that played behind her, the packed house at Bowery Ballroom were treated to home movies, music videos and beautiful visuals to accompany her throughout the night. Alaina took it back to her debut album, and her time on American Idol to start off the set with “Barefoot and Buckwild”, “Georgia Peaches”, and “Like My Mother Does”. Video clips with voiceovers helped flow each segment of the night, Alaina being encouraging about hard times and helping to show her growth as a human and a performer in Nashville.

She performed her current single, “Getting Good” which is another honest song about trying to slow time down and stay in the present without looking ahead to the next achievement as well as a brand new song that will be released on her next EP on March 6th, “Somebody Else’s Problem”. The most touching, and inspiring moment of the night came when Alaina paused her show to pay tribute to her late stepdad, Sam, telling the story of how he saw heaven moments before he passed away. Struggling to get through the song “The Other Side” without the emotion completely taking over, the songwriter performed with an indisputable grace.

She welcomed Filmore back to the stage to help her perform Hardy’s current single, one of NYCountry Swag’s favorite songs, “One Beer” which she is featured on along with Devin Dawson. Before performing “My Kinda People”, she took time to explain that although her dreams from when she was a young girl revolved around singing and traveling the world, that as she has garnered success over the past decade, she wanted to make sure to find a way to give back, and so she has started the ‘My Kinda People charity’. To find out more, head to laurenalainaofficial.com.

Lauren Alaina Filmore

After a brief pause, she returned to the stage to sing an encore of “Three” and her very first number one single “Road Less Traveled”. The entire sold-out crowd lifted their flashlights in the air as they waved their hands and sang along, it became utterly apparent that every misstep, every tragedy, and every high point in her life has brought her to the beauty of hearing your powerful words sung back to you.

If the ‘That Girl Was Me Tour’ is coming to a city near you, run, don’t walk. You will feel every emotion, you will feel community alongside strangers and the power of music will surround you throughout the night.

Lauren Alaina Releases and Performs Emotional Tribute “The Other Side”

The Other Side Lauren Alaina

Country artists regularly share their hearts with the world through their music, but on Monday night, Lauren Alaina went a step further. The American Idol alum is currently competing on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, and chose to dance a contemporary piece to her brand new song, “The Other Side”. The ballad is a beautiful tribute to her stepfather Sam Ramker, who passed away after a short battle with cancer.

Alaina has opened up about her family’s loss before, but dancing to a song she wrote about his last moments on earth showed a vulnerable side we rarely see. As if the stars couldn’t have aligned more for this important piece, the broadcast happened to air on the one year anniversary of his passing.

A visibly emotional Alaina danced beautifully through the entire song but collapsed in tears into her mother’s arms as soon as it was over, and again when her partner, Gleb Savchenko, comforted her before they received scores from the judges.

“He was always my champion. He was always my number one fan,” Alaina said in an Instagram post before Monday’s performance. “I wrote ‘The Other Side’ in Sam’s memory. I wrote this song so that he can live on, and never be forgotten.”

Anyone who has experienced loss will find comfort in lyrics that depict a pain-free world where our loved ones will wait for us. Written by Alaina, Jon Nite, and Zach Kale, this song reminds us that the ones close to our hearts never truly leave us.

“Don’t you cry for me ’cause I’m in God’s glory / And I can see his face, it’s amazing / I know you have doubts but I see it right now / I promise it’s real, keep praying / I’ll be waiting, take your time / And go write a story / That you can’t wait to tell me / On the other side / Oh, oh, on the other side”

Faith, love, and loss have always been central themes in country music, but Alaina’s willingness to share them on a national stage shows how brave the Georgia native truly is.

“The Other Side” comes on the tails of Alaina’s last release, “Getting Good”. After Dancing with the Stars, she will headline for the first time on That Girl Was Me Tour before rejoining Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins, John Anderson and the Bellamy Brothers on the 2020 Friends & Heroes Tour.

Lauren Alaina Releases Honest New Track “Getting Good”

Lauren Alaina Getting Good

As we anticipate an upcoming third studio album from the songstress, Lauren Alaina debuted a new song for fans. “Getting Good” follows the sassy and fun single, “Ladies in the ‘90s” and Alaina’s sophomore record Road Less Traveled.

The newest release is a thought-provoking track that begins with a soft instrumental and the singer’s piercing vocals. As the song advances, both Alaina’s vocals and the message get even more powerful. The song encourages listeners to worry less about the future and to live more in the moment. Even more so, the track shows Alaina’s growth as an artist.

“Once I fall in love then I’ll be happy / But then you fall in love and there’s still a hole / Once I get some money it’ll all be easy / But then you get that money and you still feel broke”

Drawing inspiration from the popular quote “grow where you are planted,” the song explodes into an uplifting reminder that happiness comes when you “realize that [your] life’s already good.”

We hope the singer-songwriter drops more music soon, but for now, she will continue to focus on her stint on the new season of Dancing With The Stars. However, she will grace the stage yet again as a singer this January when she kicks off her That Girl Was Me tour with supporting act Filmore. New Yorkers can snag tickets to the January 27th show here.

Lauren Alaina Makes Her ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Debut

Lauren Alaina may think she belongs on a farm instead of in the ballroom but she brought her Georgia roots to Los Angeles last night for the Dancing with the Stars season 28 premiere. A video introduction showed her meeting her partner, Gleb Savchenko for the first time. “I feel like I’m going to prom and I’m waiting for my date to get here,” Alaina told the camera.

Dancing the Cha-Cha to “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” by none other than country superstar, Shania Twain, Alaina dazzled on the dance floor in a green costume with a large brown belt and plenty of sparkles. She had tears in her eyes as she came off the floor and explained just how nervous she was before making her Dancing with the Stars debut. “I was praying and feeling like I might throw up,” she laughed.

The judges were impressed, giving Lauren a score of 19, the third-highest total and described her performance as “very polished” and calling her a “sultry southern belle.” Scores will carry over to next Monday when live voting begins. The songstress had plenty of people cheering her on as the camera panned to her close family and friends clapping as she got her scores. Also in the audience was country music radio host and last year’s champion, Bobby Bones who posted a sweet message to his friend shortly after her performance.

Click here to watch her full performance. Only time will tell how the singer-songwriter will do this season, continue to follow along on ABC on Monday nights at 8 PM EST.

Chris Young and Lauren Alaina Release Stunning Duet “Town Ain’t Big Enough”

Chris Young Laura Alaina Town Ain't Big Enough

Just last month singer-songwriter, Chris Young and songstress Lauren Alaina unexpectedly joined forces on the Spotify House stage, during CMA Fest. The entertainers premiered their new duet, “Town Ain’t Big Enough,” live for an intimate group of fans at Blake Shelton’s Nashville bar, ‘Ole Red.’ The song is slated to be one of the tracks off Young’s forthcoming studio album, Raised on Country. The recorded version of the song was released today, making it Young’s third know album cut, alongside “Drowning” and the title track.

“Town Ain’t Big Enough” is a mid-tempo, slow-burn track that is perfect for a duet. The singers trade verses, showcasing their powerhouse voices, as they navigate the awkward and painful feelings associated with breaking up in a small town. Young sings “It messes me up like it always does / this town ain’t big enough,” as he talks about running into his ex’s friends and missing her. On the other hand, Alaina sings “I wish we could draw a line through the city.” Both singers deliver a catchy tune that is completely relatable for anyone who has ever experienced heartbreak.

Young will continue his headlining gig on his ‘Raised on Country Tour’ through the end of summer. We caught the tour back in May, which was the perfect show to kick off summer. For more information and a full list of dates, head to chrisyoungcountry.com. As for Alaina, she embarks on her first-ever headlining tour, ‘That Girl Was Me Tour’ this fall, making a stop in New York City on September 20th at Bowery Ballroom.
