LANCO: ‘We’re Gonna Make It’ – Album Review

LANCO shares brand new sophomore album We’re Gonna Make It, officially out now, January 17th on all streaming platforms. Learn more and listen to the new album below.

Ten years into their tenure as a band, LANCO returns with their new album, We’re Gonna Make It, the follow up to 2018’s debut Hallelujah Nights. The sophomore release marks their first with Riser House Records, and a musical rebirth of sorts over the course of 14 new tracks.

Of the new album, founder and frontman Brandon Lancaster reveals, “Country music has always had a lot of pain in it. When I’m writing a song, I acknowledge that pain, but I also believe in restoration and redemption, and I wanted to explore that on this record.”

In many ways, the album tells the tale of a relationship, traveling through the highs and lows of real life, but proclaiming victory through it all. “There are two characters you are following throughout this entire record,” Lancaster shares in a statement. “You’ve heard a little bit about her, you’ve heard a little bit about him, and you’ve heard about their friends and kids. But ultimately this album is about these two people, who are there for each other through fire and brimstone, come hell or high water.”

Opening with the title track, a twangy and jubilant ode to overcoming obstacles, is the perfect way for LANCO to introduce their newest chapter. Having overcome much since their debut release, the almost Appalachian-inspired ode opens the album on a poignant and optimistic note towards the future, building to a momentous chorus of gang vocals proclaiming “we’re gonna make it!”

The band, composed of Lancaster, multi-instrumentalist Jared Hampton, bassist Chandler Baldwin, guitarist Tim Aven and drummer Tripp Howell, continue with thirteen additional tracks that combine pop, country, rock, and Americana, all centered around honesty and relatable lyrics. There are hints of nostalgia and broken hearts mixed with triumph and hope, all weaved together in a uniquely cohesive package.

Nostalgia for simpler times finds its place on songs like “Memories (We Didn’t Know),” “Million Dollar Memory,” and the especially poignant, “Beer With Younger Me.” While “Memories” is a look at those special moments that don’t seem important until they’re gone, “Beer” is a standout, much in the vein of Brad Paisley’s classic “Letter to Me.”

“If I could sit down and have a beer with younger me, I would first just listen. And then I’d tell them to not be afraid of making a wrong decision, ” Lancaster says of the track. “Because you learn from all the things you’ve done, both your mistakes and your wins.”

“Low Class Lovers” and “Sounds of a Saturday Night” are two of the album’s most anthemic and upbeat tracks. While the former is a celebration of the fact that money doesn’t lead to happiness, “Saturday Night” is a roaring, pop-influenced celebration of the weekend with its anthemic chorus and instrumentation.

“Yeah, Seger on the speakers teachin’ us night moves // Yeah, got a wild in your eyes, no tellin’ what you might do // Got my heartbeat beatin’ like a kickdrum // When you’re dancin’ in thе pale moonlight // Woo-hoo, don’t it sound so right? // Yeah, that’s the sound of a Saturday night”

Love songs are also prevalent on the LP, in all forms. “Where I Belong” is a catchy and melodic ode to finding home in someone else’s arms, while “Come Over” soars over Eagles-esque slide guitars on the invitation to a romantic rendezvous. “You’ll Always Be” is an ode to the type of love that endures and changes, while remaining true to where it began.

“You’ll always be that dancin’ in the bar // At two in the morning while they’re kickin’ us out // You’ll always be that tattooed arm // Makin’ waves out the window with the headlight out // Yeah, I know time will paint some lines on the face of you and me // But in the end you’ve always been the better half I need // You’ll always be // Days move fast and years fly by // You can’t go back and you can’t rewind // But every night lookin’ in your eyes // You take me there again”

Another clear standout is “We Grew Up Together,” featuring vocals and harmonies from Christian artist Cory Asbury. The song is a simple look at how parenthood transforms parents, forcing them to grow up along with their children. “We often think our parents have it all together, but they’re just people that met each other, fell in love, and then had a kid. I realized in raising my own children that we’re all learning as we go,” he says. “There’s so many times that I’m trying to instill a lesson in my kids, and I’m thinking at the same time of how it applies to me.”

“You learned to walk I learned to walk in my faith // You learned to talk I learned the things I shouldn’t say // You ain’t the only one who’s gonna make mistakes // God made you, you made me better // We both won’t stay young forever // You don’t know it now but one day you’ll find out // That we grew up together”

The album ends with the sparse and intimate “Nothing That You Could Do,” a promise of love that’s unshakeable and unbreakable. Of the track, Lancaster reveals, “The song is a set of musical vows, connecting the dots of a love story that began with the album’s opening track.”

Throughout the new album, LANCO takes listeners on a relationship journey with a couple who have been bumped and bruised, but are sure to make it in the end. With the release of We’re Gonna Make It, the same can be said for the talented quintet.

The Beginning:

There are many artists who have been working hard in Nashville and at their craft for several years, becoming almost synonymous with the country genre. Today, our spotlight shines on a group that has been creating music for almost a decade, while still finding a way to remain true to themselves and reinvent their sound at the same time. We chatted with the lead singer, Brandon Lancaster of LANCO to get the inside scoop about what’s to come on their sophomore album and everything leading up to this moment.

“I grew up outside of Nashville in Smyrna, Tennessee. It’s about 45 minutes outside of the city, and if you’re 45 minutes outside of Nashville, you’re like on a different planet,” shared the singer.  “I grew up on a two-lane road, out in the country and experienced that life, that small-town life. Then I was close enough to Nashville that I was exposed to songwriting and music and The Bluebird Cafe, and these kind of things at an early age, so I knew that world existed, and I loved it and admired it.”

Lancaster has been immersed in music for most of his life, starting with learning guitar at a young age and even attempting to write his own songs in high school. Similarly, the other band members, Chandler Baldwin, Jared Hampton, Tripp Howell, and Eric Steedly also had an early passion for music.

“I knew I wanted to do that for a long time, even if it was just for fun or a dream, but then I met the guys in college just through songwriter buddies. I was going to school in East Tennessee, and met Tripp at a music festival, and then met the other guys, they went to MTSU, when I moved back to Nashville. We had similar friends in the music community, got together, and started jamming, and writing songs, and that’s kind of where it all started, as far as the inception of the band.”

The Turning Point:

LANCO officially formed in 2013, but it wasn’t until five years later that the group released their debut album, Hallelujah Nights featuring fan-favorite tracks, “Greatest Love Story” and “Born to Love You.” “Sometimes it feels like we’re just getting started and trying to figure it out, and then other times, I can’t even remember a life before LANCO. At this point, we’re family, and it feels like we’re literally brothers,” shared Lancaster.

For LANCO staying true to their country roots was inevitable, but creating a blend and sound that was all their own and remaining authentic was equally as important. “The inception of LANCO was country music, because we’re originally from Tennessee and Georgia,” began Lancaster. “When you grow up in Tennessee and Georgia small towns, you’re around a lot of country music, and we lived those lives. A lot of the stories that country music is telling, we experienced firsthand. So when we were starting, we wanted to be in that genre, and that’s our home base. Even instrumentally, the banjos, the mandolin, the guitars, its more country instruments we wanted to be influenced by and use. At the same time, it’s also the 21st century, we’re influenced by a lot of different music and a lot of different things.”

LANCO is a compilation of many different influences spanning genres, including artists like Brad Paisley, more folky-stuff, Bob Dylan, and rock bands like The Killers. However, the song-writing part of things is just as important if not more important to the LANCO band members.

“From the songwriting angle, it’s a big thing for us, we tour and play shows and we try to meet as many fans as we can, but we know there’s a lot of fans that listen, and the best way they can get to know us is through our lyrics and our songwriting. We try to communicate to our fans where we are in life through our songwriting, and then musically, we’re always trying to challenge each other.”

Today:

Flash forward to day, LANCO is finally about to release their sophomore album, We’re Gonna Make It featuring fourteen songs including, “Low Class Lovers” and “We Grew Up Together.” The record officially drops this Friday, January 17th.

“The music is the way we communicate with fans, and if you’re a LANCO fan and you’ve been on the journey with us, or if you just joined the party, whatever it is, you’ll definitely get to hear where we’ve been, what we’ve been up to, who we are now. We’ve grown up a bit. We’re not old men yet, but we’ve grown up a little bit. You can hear that in the music. You can hear it in the story-telling. We’ve gone through some hardships and that’s in the record, and we’ve also celebrated, and had a lot of fun, and are very excited and happy to be living life to the fullest, and that’s in the record as well.”

The album is packed with moments that are relatable, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and truly memorable. LANCO has truly outdone themselves, offering fans an intimate glimpse into their unique journeys and life milestones. While each track on the album holds its own, a standout is “We Grew Up Together,” which Lancaster considers one of his personal favorites.

“‘We Grew Up Together’ is the last song we wrote for the album, but it’s really a milestone for us. Since the first album, we’ve all started families, so it’s the first song that’s truly dedicated to that,” shared the singer. He also mentioned another favorite, saying, “The other one I’ll always be a sucker for is ‘Low Class Lovers.’ That was the first song we released from this album, and it’s one I’ve always held onto. It’s really the staple of the album.”

“‘Low Class Lovers’ pays tribute to the main characters from our song ‘Greatest Love Story,'” the singer explained. “It’s like the starting point, if this were a movie, ‘Low Class Lovers’ would be the opening scene five years later, with the rest of the album exploring what happens after that. The whole project really grew out of that concept for me.”

Be sure to check back on Friday for the full album release, where you’ll hear how these stories evolve and come to life!

LANCO Releases New Song “Low Class Lovers”

LANCO’s new song “Low Class Lovers” is out now, April 29th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new song below.

The next chapter of LANCO is officially here. The platinum-selling group is releasing new music from their forthcoming new project. Today, the men release their new song “Low Class Lovers.”

Keeping with their signature gritty, country-rock vibe, “Low Class Lovers” is an elevated sound for LANCO. Lead singer, Brandon Lancaster always shares music that is personal and poetic, just like this song. According to Lancaster, “People wanted the next chapter, I’ll be honest, I couldn’t write it, because I hadn’t lived it. And over the last two years during the pandemic, I had time to figure that story out.” He went on to share, “I have had nothing but time… time to build relationships, reignite friendships and learn lessons – some of them the hard way. We faced loss and fear but in it we found hope, we found love, we found strength, and we found songs.”

“Low Class Lovers” is a celebratory ode to that and more. We anticipate fans waving their hands back and forth to this high-energy, mid-tempo jam. We look forward to seeing what LANCO unveils over the course of the next few months. If their songs are anything like “Low Class Lovers,” fans are in for a real treat.

LANCO: ‘HONKY-TONK HIPPIES’ – EP Review

LANCO’s new EP, HONKY-TONK HIPPIES, is out today, July 2nd on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

If there is anything fans should know about the men of LANCO, it is that they love nothing more than performing and recording music. Their new project HONKY-TONK HIPPIES EP is the love child of those two priorities. As soon as it was safe, the singers headed to the FAME Studios to record these five songs that they feel fully embody the feeling of performing on stage.

The record kicks off with the title track, a stage-ready hit. “Honky-Tonk Hippies” is groovy, fun, and an exciting sound for LANCO. The new song is gritty, swampy, and has that down-home energy that is hard not to fall in love with. It was clear the band was thinking of how fans would react to it when they wrote and recorded it.

The next song “Wild Again” is a different type of mood, but the energy is still evident. Although slower-paced, the track screams nostalgia. LANCO simultaneously reminisces on past memories, while also looking forward to the new moments. Clearly a quarantine-inspired track, the singers remind us all of our crazy-beautiful memories, while still, making us all look ahead to the wild memories we have yet to make.

“I’ve lived some life, but I think the best is yet to come // Make a quick stop at the Quickstop, grab a cold one // Cause tonight, yeah tonight // I’m going to call my baby and all my friends, tell them let’s get it started”

The vibe is continued with the next two songs “Moonlight Mingle” and “I Need A Beer.” Like the other songs on the record, both of these killer jams were tracked live to showcase the real energy of the band. The former is a dance-ready track, while the latter will put every listener into a party-ready mood.

The record culminates with “Price to Pay,” an acoustic song. With simple vocal and guitar strumming, the song is mesmerizing. Of course, a minute in, the band layers all of their vocals in to add to the unique appeal. We bet that fans will be singing this song along with the group during their live shows!

“So you like all the songs on your country radio // If you want to sing along there’s some things you should know // May not be for all but if you want to call it the dream // There’s a different side of this life in the songs that we sing”

LANCO outdid themselves with HONKY-TONK HIPPIES EP! The record is pure heart, fun, and joy. It is clear that the guys poured themselves into these five songs, and we can only imagine how much better it will all be in person during a live show! Congrats to the entertainers on an incredible project.

LANCO Delivers Nostalgic New Track, “First Beer”

LANCO’s new song “First Beer” is available now, April 9th, on all streaming platforms. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the track.

Platinum-selling country group LANCO are back with their second single of 2021. The group dropped “Near Mrs” at the beginning of the year, and are now following that release with another creative track, “First Beer”.

If the brand new song could personify anything it would be nostalgia. LANCO created a song that makes us all go back to the time we drank our first beer, but moreover, the time where we were so smitten with another person for the first time. It’s so interesting how certain memories are etched into our brains and hearts for a lifetime; despite, how minuscule that might have been in the grand scheme of things.

“We lost touch after high school, but I don’t really remember why // As the years go by // And the memories fade // There’s a night in July // That always stays // ’cause I remember my first beer // It was a bittersweet taste, but I had a straight face // Raised it up and I said cheers // Like a scene in the movies // Doing something to me // the memory is crystal clear // it went down pretty smooth, but if you want to know the truth // I remember my first beer // ’cause I drank it, I drank it // with you”

LANCO Sings About Finally Finding True Love in “Near Mrs.”

LANCO’s brand new song, “Near Mrs” is available now February 5th. Listen to the brand new track here.

Platinum-selling country group LANCO is back with their first brand new track, since July. The men officially premiered the jamming tune “Near Mrs” with an accompanied lyric-video today, marking their first release in the new year.

The brand new song displays powerful word-play, enticing lyrics, and a catchy melody, all things we have come to love from LANCO. Cleverly titled, “Near Mrs” is about all the lovers you have to go through until you find the one whom your soul will end up with. The story-telling and laid back nature of this song make the listener dream about simpler times and finding their forever love.

“Here’s to all the near Mrs. / Give her mama best wishes / And close call kisses / that never came through”

Each verse portrays a lost love, who just wasn’t Mrs. Right. The endearing quality and the story-telling nature of the song is the most impressive part of the incredible tune. Similar to their other anthems like  “Greatest Love Story” and” Born to Love You.” “Near Mrs” has the potential to be a fan-favorite and an absolute hit, during live performances.

LANCO’s new song “Near Mrs.” is available everywhere now, February 5th

The band shared on social media the sweet sentiment surrounding their latest release stating: “First new song of 2021. At first glance it’s the journey of love lost leading to love found. But this song became more special over the past year as we’ve had so much time to reflect on how thankful we are for those in our lives. No matter how certain you can be of your path it may not work out how you planned, but hopefully, at the end of that journey you end up right where you need to be and, right next to the person you need to be with.”

We only hope that this year brings us a new record from LANCO with more songs full of heart, charisma, story-telling, and nostalgia. LANCO truly prove with “Near Mrs” that they deserve all the success that is sure to head their way.

[Listen] LANCO Drops Brand New Track Titled “Save Me”

Lanco Save Me

LANCO continues to showcase their folk-country sound and honest lyrics with their new track titled, “Save Me.” This is the double-platinum, country group’s first release since October when they dropped “What I See” and “Old Camaro.”

“Save Me” is a song about a lost, troubled man who meets a girl that helps him not only find love but find himself. Backed by a string-heavy production, the feelings become physical as lead singer, Brandon Lancaster describes his attraction for this woman in the second verse with the suggestive lyrics, “My addiction to this friction is like the skin against your jeans.” The slow tempo of the song amplifies when the chorus comes around.

“I’ve been lost and I found you / You can be the someone to / hold me close and make me believe / You could save me”

Although they have not been releasing new music like other artists, LANCO has stayed busy during the pandemic performing virtually on multiple live streams and for personal parties, appearing on an episode of P.K. Subban’s NHL Trivia show, and partnering with the non-profit organization, Purposity to raise money for families in need and much more.

LANCO was supposed to open for Miranda Lambert on her Wildcard Tour, which has been pushed back to start in October, but given the current state of the country, those shows are likely to be postponed again or canceled completely.

“Save Me” may be the first of many new songs coming from LANCO. The band already has “What I See,” “Old Camaro” and “Rival” to feature as the first few songs on their upcoming sophomore album.

Don’t miss an announcement by following them on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook.

[Listen] LANCO Drop “What I See” and “Old Camaro”

LANCO What I See Old Camaro

The double-platinum feel-good country band LANCO debuted two new songs this weekend and added the nostalgic “What I See” and the classic love story “Old Camaro” to their repertoire. The dynamic five-person band has proved once again how their authentic voices and pure organic sounds create relatable lyrics with infectious anthemic choruses.

Their new single “What I See” is a song that originated when LANCO was on tour and happened to be picked up in a random parking lot next to a run-down restaurant and bar. To the band, that place meant nothing. However, they realized that the same spot they saw could have been part of someone’s childhood memories or an important part of their hometown life. This was all lead singer Brandon Lancaster, drummer Tripp Howell, and bassist Chandler Baldwin and Jeremy Spillman needed to put the pen to paper and write “What I See,” with lyrics recognizing that even the simplest things that may be insignificant to them, could be important to others. The second song “Old Camaro,” tells a story of two young kid’s in love escaping the reality of life. In the chorus, LANCO sings the reminiscent verse, “You and me in an old Camaro, a whole lot of love and a little dinero, the world in the taillights and a little bit scared, oh, just you and me, three on the tree, in an old Camaro.”

“What I See” and “Old Camaro” showcase once again the talented storytelling ability of LANCO. The two tracks are follow up’s to the band’s incredible success and notoriety from their critically acclaimed No. 1 selling album HALLELUJAH NIGHTS which featured “Born To Love You” and “Greatest Love Story.” LANCO has been on the road selling out venues across the U.S. with their own headlining HALLELUJAH NIGHTS tour. Next year, they will be joining Miranda Lambert on her highly anticipated Wildcard Tour. For more information go to www.lancomusic.com. Be sure to watch our full interview with the band from earlier this summer at Taste of Country Festival, below.
