Carrie Underwood Launches “Find Your Path” Book Tour in Brooklyn, NY

Carrie Underwood has one of the most impressive resumes. She’s a multi-award winning singer-songwriter, actor, activist, and designer, just to name a few. Today, she can add author to her list as her debut book, “Find Your Path” is out today. It’s part lifestyle, part advice, part recipe, and for the most part, about Underwood’s fitness journey.

Today, fans in Brooklyn had the opportunity to meet Carrie Underwood and hear her speak amongst a panel of inspiring women. She was joined by Women’s Health editor in chief Liz Plosser, her personal trainer Eve Overland, and her college friend and co-writer Cara Clark. The four women gave fitness advice and talked about what living fit52 means.

fit52 is Underwood and personal trainer Eve Overland’s new app that is an everyday extension of what’s featured in the book. It’s described in a press release as “a wide variety of workout routines that can be done in as little as 30 minutes”. It’s more affordable than going to the gym – $1 p/week and $52 p/year. fit52 focuses on sustainable living and health, much like Underwood practices and what her new book is about.

“I do feel like I’ve always kinda had that inner health and fitness nerd inside of me,” Underwood shared with the crowd. “Growing up, I was [always outside]… I was always trying to further my journey.”

Longtime friend and collaborator Eve Overland expressed her admiration for her friend, saying, “If you know anything about Carrie, you know she’s one of the most disciplined people out there. Even in college, when she was auditioning for Idol, she was still just the hardest worker I knew.” This couldn’t be more true, and it’s one of the many reasons Underwood is nominated for Entertainer of the Year at this year’s ACM Awards.

After the panel, all attendees got to meet Underwood, taking pictures and having their own discussions with the queen of country. The Find Your Path book tour is an intimate look into Underwood’s life, one that fans have not gotten to know yet.

Find Your Path is available wherever you buy books. To catch Carrie Underwood on her sold-out book tour, go to the official website to find out more.

Florida Georgia Line Shouts Out To Carrie Underwood About Collaboration

Earlier today Florida Georgia Line took to social media to reach out to Carrie Underwood about a brand new song that they just wrote with pop sensation, Julia Michaels. Tyler and BK are in their TreeVibez studio and announced a PSA (Public Song Announcement) in the video. “We’d really love for Carrie Underwood to hear the song, we think it’d be a massive collaboration…”

The duo shared a snippet of the pop-leaning country tune, something they have perfected over the years.  The chorus repeats, “Feels good, cause I love you” as the duo bops along. Watch the post below.

Just last week we caught Florida Georgia Line when they performed during Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. The duo sang their biggest hits as well as their current radio single “Blessings”. Full recap of the event here.

Let us know, would you love a collaboration between two of country music’s biggest acts?

2019, The Year of Women in Country Music

As country music has become more mainstream, we seemingly have forgotten about the powerful female forces that once ruled the genre. However, this year, 2019, female entertainers seemed to have taken back their power and their voices. 2019 was the year of women empowerment and women (and men) supporting other women. From all-female tours to opening gigs to being the CEO of a record label to exciting podcasts, women in country music are proving that they are going to fight for their right to be heard.

Here are six reasons that this is the year of women in country music!

Carrie Underwood Women

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

1. All Female Tours.

This year superstar Carrie Underwood pulled off the unthinkable and headlined an all-female tour, playing at the most coveted venues across the country. Taking supporting acts, trio Runaway June and duo Maddie & Tae on the road with her, she sold-out shows across the nation, including the iconic Madison Square Garden in NYC. Other female artists are following in her footsteps. Maren Morris’ highly successful ‘GIRL: The World Tour’ boasts an all-female lineup. For the first leg, Cassadee Pope and RaeLynn joined the songstress, while the second leg featured Hailey Whitters and Kassi Ashton. Finally, Miranda Lambert welcomed newcomers, Caylee Hammack, Tenille Townes, and Ashley McBryde, along with Elle King and Maren Morris to perform as part of her ‘2019 Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour’. We love seeing the female tours that are popping up, and we cannot wait until it becomes the norm in country music.

2. Number One Hits and Chart Accomplishments.

Unfortunately when it comes to country radio, female artists are working hard to get the recognition and airtime they deserve. However, we took some giant leaps forward in 2019 when both Kelsea Ballerini’s “Miss Me More” and Maren Morris’ “GIRL” reached the top spot on the charts and just this week, Carrie Underwood’s “Southbound” claimed the coveted number one spot.  Although only three songs by a female artist have gone number one on country radio this year, it is still a magnificent feat. Ballerini and Morris, who were both co-writers on their smash hits found success with songs that are both empowering and emulate confidence, two concepts that are gaining in popularity in the country genre. Underwood also co-wrote the summertime smash, “Southbound”. Furthermore, Runaway June’s radio single “Buy My Own Drinks” is the first single by a female country music trio in more than a decade to break into the Top 5 on the Country charts. This is progress!

Nicolle Galyon Women

3. CEO of a Record Label.

We proudly highlighted the extraordinary Nicolle Galyon in one of our Women of the Month features. She is a leader in empowering women in the industry and advocating for an equal playing field. Galyon was recently announced as the head of a brand new record label in Nashville named ‘Songs & Daughters.’ Big Loud Records out of Nashville is partnering with Galyon on this new imprint to sign rising female artists. This “music house for female creatives,” as she calls it, will definitely change the game. We can’t wait to catch the flagship artist, Madison Kozak this December when she opens up for Morgan Evans.

4. The Highwomen.

Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby recently joined forces to compose an all-female phenomenon entitled The Highwomen. The four magnificent singer-songwriters created an unprecedented musical group, where there is not a definitive lead. Additionally, each of the members have successful careers of their own. In celebration of women-hood in general and of course in country music, these talented ladies challenge societal standards, break and create molds, and of course exceed expectations. They are blazing the path for more female artists in the industry, inviting all artists to come as they are. Take a listen to their self-titled debut album, The Highwomen here.

Maren Morris

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

5. Inspiring Music.

Although we appreciate a good break-up anthem and some clever songs about boys or cheating, we are loving the shift in what is acceptable for women to sing about. Both Morris with “GIRL” and Ballerini with “homecoming queen?” sing about their vulnerabilities and question their self-confidence, but somehow beautifully remind girls that it’s okay to be themselves, encourage us to love ourselves, and remind us all that we are just trying to do our best. Other artists, such as our 6 favorite rising female artists and our 6 undiscovered female artists that we are loving are doing the same, writing and recording songs with substance, heart, and with a greater purpose.

Women in Country

New York’s Country 94.7’s Katie Neal, Warner Music Nashville’s Diane Monk, NYCountry Swag Founder, Stephanie Wagner, New York’s Country 94.7’s Kelly Ford, NYCountry Swag’s Managing Editor, Christina Bosch

6. Women Supporting Women.

We believe that this is the key reason for why women are finding more success this year. Podcasts, such as radio personality, Elaina Smith’s ‘Breaking Thru,’ formally called ‘Women Want to Hear Women,” and radio programming such as Radio Disney’s ‘LET THE GIRLS PLAY,’ are shattering stereotypes and evoking necessary conversations about equality. Here at NYCountry Swag, we highlight a different woman in the industry each month in our ‘Woman of the Month’ segment with the hopes of bringing you stories from inspiring women who are chasing their dreams and who have worked hard to be successful. Additionally, we host our annual ‘Babes, Booze and Brunch’ event, and this Friday, we will be hosting our final sail, featuring two incredible female artists, Kalie Shorr and Lauren Davidson, all in the name of supporting other women.

With a little over two months left in the year, we hope to continue to see and champion women in the industry as they achieve the success and accolades they deserve. The CMA Awards, taking place on November 13th will also honor women with three female hosts, Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, and Reba. And just yesterday, Miranda Lambert penned a note on social media in support of Carrie Underwood taking home the big award of the night, Entertainer of the Year.

We don’t need to wear anyone else’s crown, as Maren says, “there’s enough to go around.”

Carrie Underwood, Runaway June & Maddie and Tae Sell Out Madison Square Garden

Carrie Underwood MSG

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

Last night (October 2nd) Carrie Underwood brought her Cry Pretty Tour 360 to The Most Famous Arena in the World, Madison Square Garden. Her pure talent, stamina and ability to entertain the sold-out room in its entirety was impeccable. The sheer magnitude of the stage which spanned the arena, to the giant screens, fireworks, smoke and sparkles only helped to enhance the beauty and natural singing abilities that each of the women standing on that infamous stage obtains.

In a time when fans don’t bat an eye when all-male country tours make their way across the country, it was a big deal back in 2018 when Underwood announced she would be bringing not one but two female country acts along for this epic ride. Up first to warm up the crowd was one of our favorite rising female groups, Runaway June. Hannah, Jennifer, and Naomi looked fierce taking the stage to perform songs from their debut album, Blue Roses including “Trouble With This Town”, “Head Over Heels” and their rendition of Dwight Yoakam’s “Fast As You”. “Playing Madison Square Garden is a dream come true!” Jennifer told the crowd in between songs. “Thank you Carrie Underwood for sharing your stage with us”.

The ladies closed out their opening set with one of the most poignant songs on the album, co-written by our Woman of the Month, Nicolle Galyon, “We Were Rich” and their latest top 5 smash, “Buy My Own Drinks”. The crowd immediately stood up to sing along to the female empowerment anthem that has garnered the ladies so much success in the past year.

Next up, Maddie and Tae took the stage, who are gearing up to release their next EP, Everywhere I’m Goin‘ which will be available on October 18th. Both ladies walked around the stage, singing some of their latest tracks including “Bathroom Floor”, “Friends Don’t”, and “Tourist In This Town”. Their flawless harmonies soared throughout the venue and the way they were standing on opposite sides of the arena yet still displayed perfect cohesion proved their star power.

Maddie and Tae were sure to feature two of their older hits, “Fly” and closed out their set with “Girl In A Country Song”, the one that got things started for them nearly 5 years ago. They also included what they called a “country throwback” for their NYC fans by singing a cover of Diamond Rio’s “Meet Me In The Middle”.  It’s a true testament to Carrie Underwood and her team, allowing these rising female artists to take the spotlight on this huge tour, allowing them to garner even more fans as they make their way across the U.S.

Carrie Underwood MSG

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

As the lights dimmed and giant screens dropped to the stage, deafening screams could be heard swirling around the venue. The anticipation in the room was palpable and from the moment the superstar rose up from the center of the massive stage, she was greeted with screams, cheering and was poised for two hours of entertaining some of her biggest fans. She kicked the night off with her current single, the summer bop “Southbound” and as the songstress strutted around the 360 set up, her sparkly dress glittered throughout the grand arena.

She seamlessly transitioned from hit to hit, barely taking time to slow down, take a breath or stop moving. The concept of having fans completely surround you must be daunting, but the energy level was high, fans could be found holding hands, swaying along and screaming the lyrics back to Underwood as she made her way from one side of the venue to the other. After 15 years in this business and six, well-received, critically acclaimed albums, it must be so hard to pick and choose which songs will make each tour setlist but Underwood carefully chose tracks from each of the records that she holds so near and dear to her heart.

Carrie MSG

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

Between oldies like “Wasted” and “Last Name” to brand new tracks from her 2018 album Cry Pretty, “Backsliding”, “End Up With You” and “Drinking Alone”, the songstress did not miss a single note, her voice somehow sounding better live than it does on the studio recordings. She told the crowd how she is especially proud of her latest album, she did a ton of writing for this record and even tried her hand at producing, watching the song take life from the writer’s room to the studio and ultimately what is heard on country radio.

Other stand out moments included when Underwood slowed things down to do a medley of tracks she doesn’t usually perform in concert like sitting at the piano to play “See You Again” while the entire room was lit up by cell phone lights, “Temporary Home” and “Just A Dream” which she mashed with Aerosmith’s “Dream On” and in classic Carrie Underwood fashion, her endnotes would give Steven Tyler a run for his money.

Carrie Underwood MSG

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni) for NYCountry Swag

She welcomed back to the stage Maddie and Tae and Runaway June to honor the women of country music’s past. “There are so many reasons that this is possible and those reasons are the women that came before us, the women of country music that blazed the trails, that paved the way, that taught us how to be up here, and to sing and taught us how to write a good cheating song,” she explained. “In honor of those women, we’ve put together a little something special to honor all of the women of country music, but we’ve used a few of our ‘sheroes’. The 6 women strutted around the stage singing a medley of songs from Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Trisha Yearwood to Shania Twain, Faith Hill, and Martina McBride. It was an epic moment and a highlight of an already empowering evening.

After a brief moment, Underwood rose from under the stage once again wearing a striking pink dress under the most stunning glittering chandelier to close out the show with “Cry Pretty” and “Love Wins”. As rainbow-colored confetti rained down, the sold-out venue walked out all smiles, impressed by the incredible country music show they had just witnessed. CMA Awards Set to Honor Women In Country Music

Just last month the Country Music Association announced that women will be the focus of it’s upcoming 53rd Annual CMA Awards broadcast. Carrie Underwood is returning as host for the November event for the 12th year in a row, and this time she will be joined by female legends Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire.

While prime time country award shows have previously had multiple male hosts (Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley, for example, hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards for two years) and females have done similar gigs solo, this marks the first time a group of women will be teaming up for such an event.

Combined, the three have won a staggering 124 CMA accolades, a number which is sure to increase as these powerhouses continue on in their careers. We’re stoked to watch this special night unfold, and Underwood, Parton, and McEntire are just as pumped as the rest of us, sharing their excitement via social media.

“Let’s go girls! I’m so excited to be joining Carrie Underwood and Reba to celebrate the legendary women of country music” Parton wrote. McEntire echoed the sentiments in a similar post, re-sharing a video clip the CMA released to announce the big news. Underwood, who until now has only hosted the show with Brad Paisley, expressed the pinch-me moment she was having getting to team up with two of her idols, posting “I couldn’t be more excited to get to stand up there with 2 of my personal heroes. Reba and Dolly are trailblazers, icons and legends. We’re gonna make Country Music proud!” accompanied by the hashtag “#DreamComeTrue”.

While we can certainly expect some witty and fun moments to come from the emcees, live performances from other women are bound to be highlights of the night as well. Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris and more have had an incredible year, and will most likely grace the stage at some point during the broadcast.

The full list of nominees was announced last week. And it’s safe to say that no matter what happens, we’re in for a special night.

The CMA Awards air live from Nashville, TN on ABC on November 13, 2019.

Carrie Underwood Lyrics to Use As Instagram Captions

Carrie Underwood

Justin Aharoni (@jaharoni ) for NYCountry Swag

We love Carrie Underwood and were particularly excited to catch her sold-out show at Madison Square Garden this past year. Here are some of Carrie’s best lyrics for captions on Instagram.

1. “Life is short, love is sweet, ain’t no time like this time baby.” – This Time

2. “When the day gets long, When the work’s all done, When the sun sets, When you need to forget, Grab that cup, Fill it up, Sip it slow, And let it all go.” – Smoke Break

3. “Let’s get a little southbound unwound, Tennessee Honey kind of buzz, them south sounds up loud summer drippin’ off of us.” – Southbound

4. “While you’re sitting ’round thinking ’bout what you can’t change, And worrying about all the wrong things, Time’s flying by moving so fast, You better make it count ’cause you can’t get it back.” – So Small

5. “I am invincible, unbreakable, Unstoppable, unshakeable, They knock me down, I get up again, I am the champion.” – The Champion

6. “Saying everything without making a sound, A cricket choir in the background, Underneath a harvest moon, Standing on your shoes in my bare feet, Dancing to the rhythm of your heartbeat.” – Heartbeat

7. “Play on when you’re losing the game, Play on ’cause you’re gonna make mistakes, It’s always worth the sacrifice even when you think you’re wrong, So play on.” – Play On

8. “And we’ll never fall if we walk hand in hand, Put a world that seems broken together again, Yeah I, I believe in the end love wins.” – Love Wins

9. “The records are spinnin’ and the speakers are smokin’, There ain’t no last call, I’m havin’ a ball with Hank, Haggard, and Jones, No, I ain’t alone, I feel right at home with my ghosts on the stereo.” – Ghosts on the Stereo

10. “Gonna look ahead, no turning back, Live every day, give it all that I have, Trust in someone bigger than me, Ever since the day that I believed.” – Something in the Water

11. “What if I fall, What if I cry, And if I get scared, When they’re tryna get to you baby I’ll be the fighter” – The Fighter

12. “Tonight all I need is a stranger, Lips with a whiskey chaser, And a corner booth kiss to make me forget that he’s gone, Oh, we should be drinkin’ alone” – Drinking Alone

13. “Let’s get out of this town tonight, Nothing but dust in the shadows, Gone by morning light, Somewhere we won’t ever get caught, never be found, Baby lets just get out of this town” – Get Out of This Town

14. “Jesus, take the wheel, Take it from my hands, ‘Cause I can’t do this on my own, I’m letting go, So give me one more chance, And save me from this road I’m on” – Jesus Take the Wheel

15. “Stand on the bar, stomp your feet, start clapping, Got a real good feeling something bad about to happen, Drinks keep coming, throw my head back laughing, Wake up in the morning’ don’t know what happened” – Something Bad

Carrie Underwood Shares Her Struggles With After-Baby-Bod

In a rare, emotional, and honest Instagram post earlier this week Carrie Underwood reminded us all of a valuable lesson: appreciating our bodies for what they can do, regardless of how they fall short, is the best gift we can give ourselves.

The country queen, who is just as famous for her killer legs as she is for her incredible pipes, is finding it hard to bounce back after baby number two. Since giving birth to son Jacob earlier this year, the singer shared that her body is not recovering the way it did after having first-born, Isaiah, now 4. “I just want to feel like myself again…for my body to feel the way that I know it can”.

Carrie’s problem is not unique. In fact, there’s not a woman among us, mother or not, who hasn’t held their bodies to impeccable standards. But being in the public spotlight is another thing entirely, and instead of hiding from her fans, Underwood has chosen to redirect her energy to being there for her sons and to celebrate her body that was, “a perfect home for Jacob” for the past 11 months.

This isn’t the first time Carrie has been forced to open up in the last year. The singer gained media attention in November of 2017 when a fall outside her home landed her with a broken wrist and more than 50 stitches to the face, and again last September, when following the release of her sixth studio album, Cry Pretty, she shared that she had suffered not one, but three miscarriages with husband, Mike Fisher.

Underwood’s health-focused lifestyle has been front and center throughout her career. From sharing her personal choice not to eat meat (she’s actually a vegan), to launching and promoting successful health and fitness brand, Calia, the songstress is a perfect example of practice what you preach. With the pressure that comes with being an icon and the recent trauma she’s experienced, it’s no wonder she’s having a hard time getting back in stride.

Her post ends with a personal mantra we can all learn from. “I promise to stop analyzing every angle and every curve and every pound and every meal…I’m going to take it day by day, smile at the girl in the mirror, and work out because I love this body”.

Underwood will no doubt get back in shape later this year when she is rocking stages on the Cry Pretty Tour 360. New Yorkers can catch the tour featuring Maddie and Tae as well as Swag Session alums Runaway June when it hits Madison Square Garden on October 2nd. Until then, she and the rest of us will keep working towards our goals, appreciating our bodies, and trying to cut ourselves some slack.

Thanks for the reminder, Carrie, and just for the record, you still look amazing!
