Brian Kelley: ‘Ed & Mary Margaret’s Son’ – Album Review

Brian Kelley shares brand new album Ed & Mary Margaret’s Son, officially out now, October 25th on all streaming platforms. Learn more and listen to the new album below.

Since stepping out as a solo artist, Brian Kelley has garnered a ton of loyal fans, both during his Florida Georgia Line Days and new fans that have flocked to his unique sound. His real and raw music has appealed to lovers of honest country music. His latest album, Ed & Mary Margaret’s Son is officially out now, featuring twelve songs all penned by Kelley.

“I’m probably more excited than ever to be making music and writing songs. I’m in a place in my life where I’m going to record and write whatever I want and put it out whenever I want, and that excites me . I just have so much freedom to go wherever my creativity and my authenticity takes me. So that just fires me up,” shares Kelley in a recent press release. “To be honest with you, this record caught me off guard. But once I had an inkling of what it could be, and what was happening, it was a moment I didn’t want to pass up.”

Kelley solo-wrote every single song off the project, which is a monumental feat for any artist. Songs like “Rockin’ Randall” and “Shit Kickers” show off his traditional roots, something that fans of Kelley have come to appreciate from the heavy-hitter.

Ed & Mary Margaret’s Son also features more confessional songs that speak to Kelley’s upbringing and personal views. The title track, one of the most prolific songs on the record conveys the singer’s upbringing, and his praises to his parents for the life they gave him, as well as, their influence on his life and career. Similarly on “Heaven In A Holler,” Kelley leans into his vulnerable side yet again, as he describes country life that is grounded in family and faith.

Fan-favorite song, “If I Go First” marks another standout on the project. The beautiful ballad pays tribute to Kelley’s wife, Brittney, who he has loved for over a decade. The quiet, yet filter-free song is quite possibly one of the best on the project.

Another standout on the project is a song called “Hold On, Cowboy.” The track effortlessly blends Kelley’s more traditional sound with honest storytelling. The song feels like a reminder to anyone to not give up, even when things feel hard. It is a true battle cry for anyone who feels alone in life, posing as a simple reminder that “tomorrow needs you.

Ed & Mary Margaret’s Son is one of the most honest projects to come out of 2024. Brian Kelley brings his full self to his fans, refusing to hold anything back. These twelve songs personify the singer-songwriter’s growth as an artist, and also his true humanity. Go listen to the record ASAP!

Brian Kelley: ‘Tennessee Truth’ – Debut Album Review

Brian Kelley shares his debut album, Tennessee Truth, out now, May 10th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new project below.

When Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard announced the Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum country duo, Florida Georgia Line, would be taking a break so the two could pursue solo careers, Kelley quickly revamped his persona as a “Beach Cowboy” with his release of the tropical Sunshine State of Mind album. The seventeen-track project is an homage to his home-state of Florida, filled with songs about the ocean and the sand. With Tennessee Truth, the diamond-selling superstar returns to his roots with twelve hard-hitting tracks about southern-life.

“It might’ve been easier to stay in the coastal Country lane,” Kelley admitted in a recent press release, “because that’s what was expected. But I wanted to make music that was all of my life, all the things I love. Because, let’s be honest, the rest of what I’m singing about, lots of people love them too.”

Of the twelve tracks, six of them were previously released, including the country-boy anthems, “How We’re Livin’” and “Trucks, Ducks, Bucks, and Beer,” and the romantic tunes, “Dirt Cheap” and “Dirt Road Date Night.” The record also contains the lead single, “See You Next Summer,” which is Kelley’s highest charting solo release, breaking into the top thirty.

“Girl, I’ve never gone to Jacksonville, Georgia // But after holdin’ you all night, I wanna // ‘Cause this ain’t a margarita, can I get your number // “Meet me by the water” text, hookin’ up // See you next summer”

The album starts off with “Acres,” a catchy tune about how his girl loves having a lot of land to dance, drink, swim, start a fire, and ride around in. The third track, “King Ranch,” covers a similar theme, cleverly calling his wife the “queen of my king ranch.” “Doin’ Nothin’ is a fun, relaxing song about how much the singer enjoys doing nothing with his day.

While most of the album references country life, Kelley also references the beach in tracks like “Barefeet Or Boots” and “10 o’Clock On The Dock.” The former mixes fiddle into a hip-hop beat, as the singer praises how good his girl looks in the sand or in the dirt. The latter is a slow, love song about how serene it is just watching the stars and ocean waves from a dock with his girl. “Goin’ Places” is sexy tune, similar to FGL’s “Talk You Out Of It.” The singer cannot wait until closing time so he and his girl can get some alone time in the bedroom.

The controversial “Kiss My Boots” closes the record. The song is about someone cutting ties with an old friend. Upon its release, many fans speculated that it was directed at his former bandmate. While the lyrics don’t indicate this, Kelley is seen cutting a peach at the end of the music video—the official fruit of Georgia.

Singers like Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffet, and Jake Owen have made careers singing about the beach, and it seemed like Kelley was headed down that road as well. However, the 38-year-old from Florida wanted to show everyone he was still country, and the album undoubtedly proved that.

Tennessee Truth has shown me what kind of fighter I am. Music continues to guide my life,” he explained. “These songs are the product of a season of learning, exploring, patience, striving, and hustle…These songs are going to live longer than me. This is my life and my world. I wanted people to feel what I feel.”

Tennessee Truth Track List:

  1. Acres
  2. How We’re Livin’
  3. King Ranch
  4. Trucks, Ducks, Bucks & Beer
  5. Goin’ Places
  6. Barefoot or Botos

Brian Kelley Shares Brand New Song “How We’re Livin'” Out Now

Brian Kelley releases new song, “How We’re Livin'” out now, November 17th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

One half of the groundbreaking country duo, Florida Georgia Line, Brian Kelley continues to build his
solo discography with his latest release, “How We’re Livin’.” Although most of his music to this point has
taken place at the beach, the Florida-native returns to the country side of his roots in this southern-rock
anthem.

Produced by Dann Huff and co-penned with Micah Carpenter, Jimmy Robbins, and Mark Trussell, this is
a classic FGL track both musically and lyrically. Backed with heavy electric guitar, pounding rhythms, and
sampled hip-hop beats, Kelley proudly embraces the small-town lifestyle and promises to keep the old school family traditions alive and well.

“‘Round here its family tradition // It’s a long, long line of lovin’ how we’re livin’ // Can’t help it it’s a
country boy condition where we spend our Johnny Cash on huntin’ and fishin'”

“How We’re Livin’” is an authentic anthem celebrating family tradition and country living,” Kelley shared
in a recent press release. “Most people know my love for the beach, but I’ve been in a cowboy hat since
birth… I’m constantly inspired by everything around me, and these lyrics really do reflect a genuine
connection to my roots and what’s influencing my forthcoming debut album.”

This song follows the sentimental “Dirt Cheap” and his top 30 radio single,” “See You Next Summer.”
Kelley has a handful of shows left in 2023, including an acoustic show on Long Island at Mulcahys Pub in
Wantagh. For tickets, head to his website!

Brian Kelley Shares Brand New Song “Dirt Cheap” Out Now

Brian Kelley releases new song, “Dirt Cheap,” out now, September 1st, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

As he continues to lean into his own musical style as a solo artist, Brian Kelley is finding himself aligning with true stories and relatable experiences. A true embodiment of the small-town lifestyle, Kelley’s new song, “Dirt Cheap” is the perfect song for him.

Although not written by the entertainer, “Dirt Cheap” feels like a song the singer could have penned himself. Written by Seth Ennis, Wyatt McCubbin, and Andy Sheridan, the easy-going song talks about slowing down and leaving the city for a bit in favor of dirt roads, small-town living, and everything it has to offer. Kelley is the perfect artist to share the sentiments expressed throughout the track.

“The moment I heard ‘Dirt Cheap’ I knew I had to record it. It reminded me of some of my favorite Country songs growing up that really pull at your heartstrings,” shared the singer in a recent press release.  “As much as I love the beach, I love the country too. This song matches and meets me where I’m at in life currently. I’m working hard, so in love with my wife Brittney, and always keeping my eyes peeled for the perfect ‘Dirt Cheap’ property of our own. I am so thankful this song landed in my world, and I hope it resonates with those who hear it just like it did with me.”

Kelley continues to find his rhythm in his solo career, and if his next songs are anything like “Dirt Cheap,” country fans are in for a real treat.

Brian Kelley Releases Patriotic New Song “American Spirit”

Brian Kelley’s new track, “American Spirit”  is out now, July 1st, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new song below.

Brian Kelley is one half of the GRAMMY-nominated group, Florida Georgia Line, but has released solo projects over the past two years during the duo’s hiatus. His beach-inspired record, Sunshine State of Mind, paid homage to his home state of Florida and debuted at number eleven on iTunes.

Today, Kelley shows his respect for our great country in his new song, “American Spirt.” Co-written with Canaan Smith, Jake Rose, and Blake Redferrin, he honors all the military veterans (including his grandfather who earned two Purple Hearts serving in World War II), first responders, and citizens who proudly fly the flag in front of their homes and businesses. He releases this track right before July 4th, so don’t forget to add this tune to your weekend playlist!

“American Spirit, that red, white, and blue // It’s flying for freedom, for me and for you // It’s what I believe in, this country I love // That American Spirit runs in our blood”

After signing with Warner Music last year, Kelley returned to his original label, Big Machine Records, for the release of this track and future ones. He has several tour dates lined up for himself and Florida Georgia Line this summer. For tickets, head to his website.

BREAKING: Florida Georgia Line Cancel 2021 Tour

Florida Georgia Line have announced the cancellation of their ‘I Love My Country Tour 2021’ due to COVID-19. Get all of the details below.

“There is nothing better than seeing all of your faces from the stage, feeling your good energy, and making memories together,” shares FGL’s Tyler Hubbard. “We were hopeful we could get back on the road this fall, and are so bummed to have to cancel this tour, but we know in our hearts that we still have to make sure we’re keeping our fans and crew safe. It’s unfortunate that we have to cancel but we hope y’all understand. We love our fans and can’t wait to be back out when the time is right.”

“Although we’ve been able to see some of y’all at shows recently, everyone’s continued safety has been weighing heavy on us,” adds FGL’s Brian Kelley. “To our fans, band, crew, and all of the venues around the country, thank you for your love and support! We couldn’t do what we do without you, and we hope we can all do our part to bring live music back soon.”

Brian Kelley: Sunshine State of Mind – Album Review

Brian Kelley’s debut solo album, Sunshine State of Mind is out now, June 25th, on all streaming platforms. This beach-inspired project features seventeen tracks, including the four off the EP, BK’s Wave Pack. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the collection of music.

Back in April, we got a taste of what style of music Brian Kelley, who serves as one half of the GRAMMY-nominated duo, Florida Georgia Line, was gearing up to release with his forthcoming solo project. This time without long-time bandmate, Tyler Hubbard. Although the same feel-good vibes are present throughout the record, Kelley’s lyrics are delivered in a much calmer and tropical essence. He truly embraces his Florida roots in this collection of island-themed tracks.

The album starts off with the relaxing “Boat Names,” in which the singer takes his girl to the dock to check out all the boats. He promises her that one day he’ll have his own boat he can name after her. This is followed by the previously released “Made By The Water,” as he portrays a perfect day at the beach with the love of his life.

Aside from island life, love is another major theme on the album. Kelley shows gratitude for his wife on numerous tracks including “Fish All Day,” “Say The Word,” and “Songs For You.” Kelley puts his country roots on display in the traditional sounding “Fish All Day.” According to Kelley, fishing all day and loving all night is the perfect recipe for a wonderful day.

“Say The Word” is a low-tempo, sexy song in which the couple just got home from their beach vacation, referring to it as “heaven on earth.” However, they immediately miss the sun, waves, and sand beneath their feet. He reassures her by agreeing to go back anytime she wants. In “Songs For You,” the singer serenades his girl by playing the songs he wrote for her. With the sun going down behind them on the beach, he describes this as “a picture-perfect end to a day.”

Country singers often sing about driving their truck down backroads and on highways with their lover riding shotgun, but in Kelley’s songs, they’re on the water and he and the girl are captain and co-captain of the ship. In “Highway On The Water,” he explains why this is his preference — there’s never any traffic and they can float at their own pace. Kelley understands that boats can bring out different moods in different people; some like to party and some just like to relax. The tempo changes song by song. While this song is upbeat and contains a heavy amount of fiddle, “Boat Ride” is much calmer and includes a backing ukulele. “By Boat” is a mid-tempo track in which Kelley is in awe of his view from his boat of the sunset kissing the ocean, and if he’s ever going to get to heaven, it won’t be by stairway, it’ll be by boat.

Although the general sound on this album is much different than the typical Florida Georgia Line one, several songs, such as “Real Good Day” and “Party On The Beach” are reminiscent of it. The former leans hip-hop and simply describes what makes a good day; drinking by a bonfire and listening to George Strait on the speaker with good friends and attractive women. “Party On The Beach,” which was previously released, includes sounds from a traditional Hawaiian luau and a screeching seagull. Both are perfect songs to throw on your beach playlist.

“Good times, good vibes, good people // Sittin’ ’round a fire, gettin’ higher than a seagull // Every flip floppin’ day of the week // Yeah, it’s a party on the beach”

Kelley brings the good vibes across this entire album, but there are a few songs that are very personal to him, including “Sunburnt,” “Don’t Take Much,” and the album’s closer “Florida Boy Forever.” “Sunburnt” sounds like a true story about their relationship. They met by the water, fell in love by the water, and celebrated their marriage by the water. In “Don’t Take Much,” he reflects on his seven years of marriage, realizing that all he needs is her, some sand, and a blanket full of stars above them. In the final track, driven by banjo, he discusses what growing up in Ormond Beach was like; catching crayfish and playing baseball. Although he had to leave to pursue his career and see the world, he knows that he’ll never stray too far from his roots.

“Carolina, Mississippi, always keep that sunshine with me // Sure as waves crash on the shore, I’ll be a Florida boy forever, I know”

If you like conflict in music, you won’t get it on this album. However, listeners can learn a lot about Kelley on these seventeen tracks. Since Florida Georgia Line burst into country music in the early 2010s, Hubbard has been the predominant voice on most of their songs, especially on their last two albums. It was nice to hear Kelley be the center of attention for a change.

Maybe one day, we’ll see Kelley on the road as a solo artist. His tropical presence would match up perfectly with artists such as Kenny Chesney or Jake Owen.  For now, Kelley and Hubbard will tour as Florida Georgia Line this fall on their I Love My Country Tour with Russell Dickerson, Lauren Alaina, and Redferrin. For tickets, head to their website.

Brian Kelley: BK’s Wave Pack – EP Review

Brian Kelley, who serves as one half of the GRAMMY-nominated duo, Florida Georgia Line, makes his solo debut with brand new EP, BK’s Wave Pack available everywhere today, April 13th. Listen to the 4-track collection and take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the new music.

Kelley and bandmate Tyler Hubbard shocked the country world when they announced the two of them will be focusing more on their solo careers going forward after the release of their latest album, Life Rolls On. Although we are unsure when or if there will be new Florida Georgia Line music in the future, we know that Kelley’s solo career with Warner Music Nashville is just beginning to take off.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who has helped me on my journey to get here. I’m humbled to team up with Warner Music Nashville to take the music I’ve been dreamin’ and schemin’ up to the next level,” Kelley shared in a recent press release. “This is just the beginning of a whole new adventure.”

Fans can sense the entire vibe of this album just by reading the names of the songs. During the pandemic, Kelley spent a lot of time writing and being inspired at the beach. The lead track is a mid-tempo, pop-country crossover that immediately sets the mood. Kelley puts the listener in a tropical paradise, declaring himself the “Beach Cowboy” that “goes John Wayne on these waves.” The following song, “Made By The Water,” is reminiscent of classic Kenny Chesney/Jake Owen, as he portrays a perfect day at the beach.

“Soul of a sailor, born for a boat // My tie-dye girl got their heart floating // The way that it’s going I know when the sun sinks down like a bobber // there’s going to be some love made by the water”

Kelley turns the relaxation up with the next track, “Party on the Beach.” With the sounds from a traditional Hawaiian luau and a screeching seagull, he puts listeners’ minds into vacation mode. In the final track, “Sunday Service In The Sand,” the singer-songwriter shows gratitude for island life by thanking God for his beach-chair blessings. He admits that heaven could not get much closer than this.

“I can feel the salt-water working // High-tide’s taking me to church and // I can’t help but raise my hands to another Sunday service in the sand”

Although the two shared writing and producing credits, Hubbard was the predominant voice on most FGL songs, especially on their last two albums. It was nice to see Kelley venture out and sing along with his voice for a change. We are hopeful to see a full project album from Kelley in the future.

Florida Georgia Line Lands 18th Career #1 Song with “Long Live”

Florida Georgia Line lands the number one song in country radio this week with, “Long Live”. Marking the duo’s 18th career chart-topper, just after earning their 17th hit back in September with “I Love My Country”.

Platinum-selling country duo Florida Georgia Line have been a staple in the country music world for several years now. With hits like “Cruise,” “Meant to Be,” and “Dirt” under their belt, the hitmakers cannot seem to slow down. Despite the fact that the two men are embarking on their own solo projects, their most recent radio single, “Long Live” just went number one on the charts, marking their 18th chart-topper.

Written by FGL boys Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley with Corey Crowder, David Garcia, and Josh Miller, “Long Live” is a quintessential FGL song. Their smooth vibratos, catchy lyrics, and enticing voices are exactly what we have come to love from the duo. It is clear that fans agree that their music is what we need right now.

“Having our fans and Country radio support us all of these years has been nothing short of a blessing,” shares FGL’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley in a recent press release. “We couldn’t imagine a better song to mark our 18th! Here’s to all of the good times and to many more ‘Long Live’ nights!”

If you cannot get enough of Florida Georgia Line, make sure to stream their newest album Life Rolls On, and be on the lookout for Hubbard and Kelley’s solo projects. The latter will be out on Friday, April 14th.
